Mind to matter: no Mad Hatter! Lots of fun ideas in here:
- Healing the mice at distance by skeptics, no less!
- Epigenetic ways of thought power interpretation.
- Quantum paths of our mind power: nonlocality, quantum entanglement, observer effect, coherence, sinchronicity, emergent systems...
- Sara Josephine Baker and her quest to improve children's health, wellbeing and, well, prevent preventable deaths.
- Cymatics (and not just with opera singers' voice tricks).
- Growing neural pathways to win and achieve.
- A very friendly and mild intro to the realm of noetics.

What distinguishes this book from a lot of other great esoteric works is how the material is coolly presented. The reader has to make their own mind about things not buy into a ready-made metaphysical structure.

Mind to Matter is pseudoscience nonsense. Basically, it is about how a guy who lost his keys, spent hours looking for his keys, couldn't find his keys, ran into a kid who found his keys, and thinks his mind is creating things in the universe and then goes about to create a "scientific" theory on how this might be so. Now he thinks he is a mystic who has fused metaphysics with science. Mumbo jumbo, mumbo jumbo, mumbo jumbo.

There are so many better and more, let's say, realistic books about the neuroscience, mental plasticity, meditation, well being, and the mysteries of being human. While I admire Dawson Chruch's positivity and the underlying message that he is espousing, he seems lost in the kind of magical thinking that advocates well-being and often end all weird, delusional, and culty.

Dawson Church will surely sell a gazillion books. I wonder, however, if this book will actually get the attention it deserves.

It’s really two books, not back to back, but intertwined throughout.

The first is the New Age manifesto that will surely appeal to his large following. “From that place in consciousness, you live a life of wisdom, intelligence, and love. You no longer ask for love, need love, or crave love, because you are love.” For those who aren’t currently aware of Church (I was not) or haven’t signed onto the language of the genre, unfortunately, this might cause them to put the book down (I almost did). The genre suffers from a perceived lack of authenticity in some quarters simply because the language tends to the flowery.

That would be a shame.

Church is a scientist and offers an abundance of scientific evidence to support his contentions, the primary one being that “mind creates matter” and the second being that our consciousness is somehow universal, not individual. “The entire universe may be self-aware.” I readily accept both, even more so after reading this book.

Church claims that science is the new mysticism, suggesting that science has validated many beliefs that have been around for thousands of years. And that, too, is true. In doing that, however, Church has made an even more important contribution. He has clearly articulated the limitations of science. “What we find when we examine the way science is conducted is that for better or for worse, it is heavily influenced by belief. The ideal of the scientist as an objective assessor of facts is at odds with reality.”

We live in the age of science. Of that there is little doubt. We have raised the scientific worldview to religious status. In the process, however, we have lost sight of context, which, as Church points out, is always critical. We have lost, as the Chinese philosophers might say, our sense of balance. When we isolate science from context we aren’t revealing knowledge, we are dumbing it down to meet the constraints of science as we have come to understand it.

Church rightfully points out that once mainstream science spills over into the conceptual universe in which he participates, it will be the scientists themselves who resist the most ardently. They, having built their reputations and careers on a model of reality that is not quite accurate, will feel the most threatened.

Having said that, my only reservation about the book is that Church did not really help us to understand what those arguments are. There are undoubtedly skeptics about the science he offers. If there weren’t then this would be the biggest cover-up in the history of humanity. Many of the stories he shares are so overwhelming that it would be unthinkable that all of science hasn’t embraced them.

So I, for one, would like to understand what the skeptics have to say. Not because I think they can undermine what Church says here, but because I believe that would reinforce what I believe is the truth in Church’s assertions. Perhaps, however, that is for another book.

In the meantime, this is a marvelous book. And my advice, particularly if you are not inclined toward New Age thinking (those people will read it anyway), is to most definitely read it. It is well written and very well informed. I only wish he had chosen a different cover. This one, I believe, just doesn’t do justice to just how paradigm-shattering his observations are.

One part scientific studies, one part metaphysics, in Mind to Matter Dawson Church seeks to explore the idea that thoughts shape reality. The human mind and consciousness is an amazing thing, one that has not been researched nearly enough. Some of the concepts highlighted in the book are:

• Healing cancer with energy (yes, an actual scientific study)
• Quantum physics of the observer effect, entanglement and more
• Coherence
• Synchronicity
• How meditation changes brainwaves

I can see how if someone is not into "New Age woo" could be turned off by this book as Church uses a lot of that style of language, especially in the first chapter of the book. If you can push past all that, Mind to Matter makes for a thought provoking read. I need to check out further reading on this subject as I find it fascinating.

This book is totally nonsense. It's not even a science at all. Even if the author claims many scientific discoveries, experimental results and quotes many famous scientists, he most likely misinterprets them. If you found a 10$ bill on the ground, most people would not think that it contained a special message or something instead the author thinks this banknote was on the ground just for him and it's a symbol.

Life is too short to waste on reading bad books.

By the title and photo of the front page, one can easily fall for the book thinking of neuroscience and Matter- Mind descriptions. But , this book is just a crap piece. Beautifully written with very good examples and occasional scientific theories & pictures presents this book as a well researched and logically written, but when you go deep , starts reading slowly and see the healing methods for disease cure, you get the first shock.

Questionable examples and pseudoscience are in every part of this book. It lacks logic. It lacks science.

I didn't not dare to read the complete book and waste my valuable time which can be spend on a better book.

Life changing book

I have read many books along this subject line but this is one of the best! Provides scientific “proof” of the ideas presented within the book and gives simple activities for helping the reader to change reality by using the tools of consciousness. This fact is not simply a “feel-good” fantasy, it is truth. As we become more enlightened and allow science and spirituality to coexist in this reality we ourselves create, we learn that the Mind of the Universe is within each of us. We instinctively know that we are not random “mistakes” that somehow came together in a primordial stew to somehow stumble into the creation of complex biological bodies- we know that God is the Consciousness of the Universe. As we read that quantum physics shows that the act of observation and the presence of consciousness creates and alters reality, we can understand that God is the Great Observer, the Consciousness that spoke the world into existence and that He has also given us the power to participate as well.

nothing new here. it's basically a compilation of excerpts from joe dispenza and lynn mctaggart's books. i found his narration and way of speaking incredibly annoying as well. it is unnatural and each word is overly pronounced and enunciated.

Every creation begins as a thought, from a symphony to a marriage to an ice cream cone to a rocket launch. When we have an intention, a complex chain of events begins in our brains. Thoughts travel as electrical impulses along neural pathways. When neurons fire together they wire together, creating electromagnetic fields. These fields are invisible energy, yet they influence the molecules of matter around us the way a magnet organizes iron filings.

In Mind to Matter, award-winning researcher Dawson Church explains the science showing how our minds create matter. Different intentions produce different fields and different material creations. The thoughts and energy fields we cultivate in our minds condition the atoms and molecules around us. We can now trace the science behind each link in chain from thought to thing, showing the surprising ways in which our intentions create the material world.

The science in the book is illustrated by many authentic case histories of people who harnessed the extraordinary power of the mind to create. They include: Adeline, whose Stage 4 cancer disappeared after she imagined “healing stars” Raymond Aaron and two of his clients, each of whom manifested $1 million in the same week Elon Musk, who bounced back from devastating tragedy to found Tesla and SpaceX Graham Phillips, who grew the emotional regulation part of his brain by 22.8% in two months Jennifer Graf, whose grandfather’s long-dead radio came to life to play love songs the day of her wedding Harold, whose 80% hearing loss reversed in an hour Joe Marana, whose deceased sister comforted him from beyond the grave Rick Geggie, whose clogged arteries cleared up the night before cardiac surgery Matthias Rust, a teen whose "airplane flight for peace" changed the fate of superpowers Wanda Burch, whose dream about cancer told the surgeon exactly where to look for it An MIT freshman student who can precipitate sodium crystals with his mind John, who found himself floating out of his body and returned to find his AIDS healed Dean, whose cortisol levels dropped by 48% in a single hour

In Mind to Matter, Dawson Church shows that these outcomes aren’t a lucky accident only a few people experience. Neuroscientists have measured a specific brain wave formula that is linked to manifestation. This "flow state" can be learned and applied by anyone. New discoveries in epigenetics, neuroscience, electromagnetism, psychology, vibration, and quantum physics connect each step in the process by which mind creates matter.

They show that the whole universe is self-organizing, and when our minds are in a state of flow, they coordinate with nature's emergent intelligence to produce synchronous outcomes. The book contained over 150 photos and illustrations that explain the process, while an "Extended Play" section at the end of each chapter provides additional resources.

As Mind to Matter drops each piece of the scientific puzzle into place, it leaves us with a profound understanding of the enormous creative potential of our minds. It also gives us a road map to cultivating these remarkable brain states in our daily lives.

Science and metaphysics combined

I loved this book, which is filled with scientific studies the prove the creative power of the mind. It shed light on energy resonance and synchronicity among many other things. Must read for those I tweeted in deliberate creation and LOA.

A Wonderful Confirmation

Before reading this book, I had come to the liberating conclusion that each of us can participate in and affect the consciousness that holds creation together. So it was very reassuring to read about both historic mystical and recent scientific validation of how consciousness is transmitted and is fundamental to the transformation of the stuff of the universe, including ourselves.

I appreciate what Dawson conveys because I had periodically entered into those peaceful frequencies beyond typical mind jabber (as I sought to be still and know God) until in 2010, I found I could maintain a state of awareness where mind jabber entirely ceased. Instead I became persistently tuned into that vitalizing yet peaceful place from which wisdom is dispensed. Now rather than the other way around, there have been only rare and intermittent periods of mind jabber, so that my default is an entirely new and expansive “mind” informing me of exactly what I need when I need it.

I found all of the content of this book to be helpful and supportive to convey the very real potential we can attain. That is, we truly can live from the consciousness and nature of love that is the vital substance of creation. We have the choice of being glued to our local frenetic mental tube, or the alternative of tuning into the consciousness of peace and love. It is the stuff of lovely dreams come true. Yes, the murky world persists, but it is no longer a drudging anchor but the stuff of creativity.

If you are interested in the Human Potential Movement, this book is for you. Mind To Matter was a engaging read with detailed explanations of concepts like “What brain waves are and what they do” delivered in a easy-to-digest way keeping the narrative moving along. The vast amount of studies, experiments and scientific findings is impressive and inspiring. Already a believer in most of the findings, my goal was to get to the weekly actionable items. Unfortunately, the constant mention of his workshops and “additional” services that are called “extended play” diminished my reading experience. The author has an exceptional history and is a passionate advocate of healing, science and our thoughts. I didn’t need the additional encouragement to go to his website as I felt like it was too much ysalesmanship. I experimented with the weekly “activities” and enjoyed them, so I do recommend the book as a good read to add to your knowledge base of your spiritual and creative toolbox.

This is a good book on a wonderful an worthwhile subject but to me seemed to be going over old 'self-improvement' ground -- think 'How to Win Friends and Influence People', The Power of Positive Thinking', 'Think and Grow Rich' et al -- in a (slightly) new way with (some) scientific evidence. It's all good stuff but as I was reading it I had the feeling that I'd read it all before only this was presented with a little too much missionnary zeal. The extreme positive optimism feels artificial and the 'selling' is both unnecessary and off-putting. The subject deserves better.

The scientific part of the brain waves/frequencies (Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, Gamma) was the most interesting part, which finally gave me some more understanding of meditation nd its "physical" benefits.

The rest of it is mostly veiled advertising. The way author stressed his impact on discovering somekindof meditation method (and never explaining it in practice, but giving links to his website) was toOo annoying.

Two stars, because the scientific research with which he supported his adverts was kind of impressive.

This book is life-changing. In it, Church gives you the inspiration, information, rationale and practical applications to change your life by starting with your thoughts. If thoughts become things (and they DO), then we have the power to surround ourselves with a life we love, heal ourselves from all sorts of sickness and trauma and move into a life of our own design. I highlighted, sticky-noted, dog-eared and reread sections of this book. It is very dense and I admittedly skimmed some sections, but the profound truths inside cannot be unread. It’s a powerful book.

Nice overview of the power of the mind. The ability to create your life based on how you can envision it. A mix of spiritual, philosophical, and scientific endeavors. Some of it may seem a bit woo-woo, but there are a lot of studies backing up the ability of the mind. Fascinating and informative.

Very disappointing. No idea why so many people have rated this highly. It starts of badly and goes down hill rapidly before bottoming out at the end with this gem:

“The way to put this in to practice is simple; when you wake up every morning, simply align your consciousness with the highest frequency possible... as you do this you will feel a shift in your body. You will feel a physical sense of shifting to a new plane, of moving into an altered state” riigghht.

I was hoping for a discussion on how conscious observation appears to affect results in Quantum Physics, and building on that or similar scientific premise. What I got was plenty of studies that the author admits (and made bizarre unfounded excuses for why) they haven’t been able to be replicated. There is too much nonsense in this book to comment on it all, suffice to say there is extremely little actual science produced, and an awful lot of “if you align with the right vibrational frequency blah blah blah”.

80% of this book is a discussion on the benefits of meditation, yes, thank you, if I wanted a book on the benefits of meditation I would have bought one. The other 20% is about the author trying to convince himself he has magic powers.

One of the more significant books I have read in a while. I have always been fascinated with the link between science and spirituality and this book took me a step further. Dawson Church appears to be a PhD in natural sciences (it explains why he thought m in the equation e=mc2 was matter not mass!). But the rest shows his evidence based approach to all matters of natural healing, intention experiments, meditation and so on. I learnt heaps about the different sorts of brainwaves and even went back to meditating first thing in the morning before my alpha waves are replaced by more beta. Every chapter has a list of things to do at the end and I am currently hooked on watching Joe Dispenza on youtube. There is also amazing stuff on how thoughts change water.

Big advertisement for his ecomeditation

This book was just one big advertisement for ecomeditation. Although some of the data is presented is true. I looked up references most of it is just anecdotal. An interesting and true comment in the power of the mind. I wish it was little less snake oil and mirrors and more science.

The Energy of Words

Outstanding, prolific, mind shifting book to get the neurons fired and wired in a deeper sense. The information is empowering for you. Just reading this one book inspired me to meditate twice a day by understanding the energy mind converts to matter. I'm watching it happen. Synchronicity is energy in action and not a series of coincidence. Love this book!

This is a book for the self-empowerment reader, looking to improve their daily ideas about the mind and creating and manifesting destiny. It pairs well with Modern Art of War/Liguore, which has a similar practice of managing thoughts through a compelling look at the mind as if it was a battlefield.

From the outset, Church's writing style is both accessible and engaging, making complex scientific concepts easily digestible for readers of all backgrounds. Through a blend of scientific studies, real-life examples, and personal anecdotes, he paints a vivid picture of the incredible power of the human mind to shape the world we perceive.

One of the most satisfying aspects of "Mind to Matter" is Church's ability to bridge the gap between science and spirituality. Rather than presenting these two realms as mutually exclusive, he demonstrates how they can coexist harmoniously, offering a holistic understanding of consciousness and its impact on reality. This integration of different perspectives adds depth and richness to the narrative, inviting readers to explore new ways of thinking about the world and their place within it.

Church's exploration of topics such as quantum physics, epigenetics, and neuroplasticity is both comprehensive and compelling. By weaving together insights from these diverse fields, he constructs a compelling argument for the profound influence of consciousness on the physical world. Whether discussing the power of intention to heal the body or the role of meditation in reshaping neural pathways, Church presents a wealth of evidence to support his claims, leaving readers with a renewed sense of awe and wonder at the capabilities of the human mind.

In conclusion, "Mind to Matter" is a deeply satisfying and engaging read that offers valuable insights into the extraordinary potential of the human mind. Church's passion for his subject shines through on every page, making this book a must-read for anyone interested in unlocking the secrets of consciousness and harnessing its power to transform their lives.

My only critique is parts of this book, particularly in the beginning lean on what I suspect is pseudoscience, ie. the laying of hands. There are also constant examples of cancer and the mind or hands curing it with thoughts etc. I think cancer is used because its still very misunderstood and covers a wide range of cellular issues (it also goes into remission), where as we know that someone who is paralysed for example, can not just mentally focus and suddenly walk. In fact, my biggest disappointment in this book were the numerous examples of pseudo science and lets be clear a lot of these hand layers want money from you. The meditation is generally interesting, but I don't get the tapping, seems like a gimmick to make this mediation special? It does remind me of that great song by the Alex Harvey band, faith healer.
Why am I giving it 4 stars though? The book reads like a well researched overview of various studies across science. While a few examples, I doubt the validity as noted below, the book get stronger later on in citing more scientific work. I also think it stirs the conversation around what is science actually showing about life? It dances around the hard consciousness question and could have spent more time on that issue, but it does a good job showing all the things going on around us, and how complex the automated self and conscious self is.
I also generally think the author has a positive message, the book gives you some practical steps to try and I did not get the feeling there was any begging for money. Whether is all believable I am not sure, but I think positive thinking and meditation, I am open too, which to me seems to the be the gist of the whole book. I found the section on Synchronicity very interesting.
