A gritty police procedural that kept growing on me

Trust has a Midsomer Murders feel to it, I thought. Like Midsomer it was about two thirds of the way through that I felt I knew who all the characters were. It isn’t a who dunnit, but rather a how are they going to catch him. I enjoyed it.

So, I read Trust over a few days. At first, I'll be honest and say I found the meticulous attention to detail a little overwhelming, but I quickly moved past it and was very engaged by the way the story unfolded. I'm unsure if I've read a book before where we know who the killer is, but we have to wait for the authorities to unravel the plot. I did enjoy watching the pieces fit together. It's clear (or I suspect it's clear) that Colin was once in the police (or something very close to the police), as the attention to detail about how the investigation could unfold was very intriguing. I found the story to be a quick read, with a number of tangled threads. This wasn't so much a who-dun-it as a how-they-solve-it:)
