Elizabeth Keysian is a multi-award winning, USA Today bestselling author of heart-pounding Regency romances, set mostly in the West of England. She has completed a unique series for Dragonblade Publishing called Trysts and Treachery, which is set in the Tudor era. Though primarily a writer of romance, she loves to put a bit of mystery, adventure, and suspense into her stories, and refuses to let her characters take themselves too seriously.

Elizabeth likes to write from experience, not easy when her works range from the medieval to the Victorian eras. However, her passion for re-enactment has helped, as have the many years she spent working in museums and British archaeology. If you find some detail in her work you’ve never come across before, you can bet she either dug it up, quite literally, or found it on a museum shelf.

Short novel with really annoying characters. I spent the whole time rolling my eyes given how ridiculous that book was.

So Francesca, or Cesca was in love with her childhood friend Friz or Frit/Fitz I don't remember lol
Anyway, they both love each other and he is delaying asking for her hand because her dad is sick and he is going to war and all.
But Cesca's step sister is evil. Alicia is crazy about Friz, like mentally obssessed with the guy!
She writes herself letters pretending it is coming from Friz and fakes illness for attention.

One day they are all together and she traps him so she will look compromised. Like, it was so ridiculous that scene. Friz finally asks for Cesca but stupid dad who knows the guy is in love with his daugther, tells him no and offer him Alicia's hand. Friz dad also forces him to marry Alicia.

Some drama happens (of course), a lot of misunderstanding, but thanks God it is a really short novel so it doesn't last. Even if we are told it was 6 months.

Well they meet again, all of them and there is this guy, Captain Brandt, who had a beef with Friz because Friz stopped him from raping a girl while they were in the army.

Some more craziness from Alicia and Friz + Cesca are finally together again. At this point, I couldn't consider Alicia evil but plain stupid! I mean geez how can you shoot yourself in the foot like that wow wow!
She gets her karma at the end and it was petty and sweet lool!

But really, why were they so weak against Alicia? That was so annoying the way everyone let that brat manipulates them. A chance that book was short, I couldn't have stand it with Alicia in a longer story.

3 stars I guess, not great but not bad either, just a nice Sunday afternoon filler lool

By the way, Friz and Cesca had the most cheesy lines. Those two were really nauseating, I couldn't take "their love" seriously loool

A Midwinter Wager by Elizabeth Keysian is just one more example of Ms. Keysian's phenomenal story-telling abilities. This book is well-written, smooth reading and the characters are absolutely perfect for this book. Francesca loves Fritz and is delighted when she finds he loves her. Her step-sister is not so happy about it and the trouble begins. Fritz and Francesca's story is packed with drama, humor, action, sexy bits and suspense. I read this book straight through, couldn't put it down. I loved it and look forward to my next book by Elizabeth Keysian. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Enjoyed this historical fiction English Viscount romance about a vile and selfish stepsister who attempts to undermine her sister's future with her beloved. For those who enjoy this genre, this book, although somewhat predictable in outcome, provides an interesting read involving many twists and turns to maintain one's attention throughout.
