Losing her brother was the worst pain she ever felt, but Sydney decided to finish his mission. Sydney and her team set off to explore the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean. While they were in the depths two discoveries were made, one that saddened, and the other was unbelievable, impossible, but very much real. The discovery may be the discovery of a lifetime, whether that life would be short was a different story, however.

Depths by J. Dorden was truthfully expansive in it's world and in it's characters. The writing style was different from that of a third person, dialog heavy, novel, but rich in narrative pros and descriptions. Reading this felt as though I was reading the journal log of someone who experienced all of it. For a first novel by this author, I would say this was definitely a solid start with plenty of substance to stand on and whole worlds to build on top of. Can't wait to see what awaits Sydney in book two!
