Shadow "This is yours."
Zorya Polunochnaya "Thank you. It bought you your liberty twice. And now it will light your way into dark places."

The graphic novel adaptation of American Gods. The Moment Of The Storm 3/9: Still hating Scott Hampton's art, I know I'm not alone in this. Shadow is hanging on the tree, and it's described in excruciating detail. All for a good purpose - through suffering comes revelation. On the first night, he suffers through a wild rainstorm.
A strange joy rose within him, then as the rain lashed his naked skin, and he exulted, he was alive. He had never felt like this. Ever.

As time goes on he suffers more, meets Zorya and chooses Truth as he has come too far for fine lies. When the first is revealed, he is somehow not surprised as deep inside, I think some part of him already knows. There is a blatant message here that some truths are hard and only earned through great suffering and personal choice.
