A powerful witch. Four unlikely guardians. A curse that will create an unstoppable monster.
Enslaved for years by a powerful crime lord, Bryn has been forced to harness her elemental magic to create vile potions that have harmed countless supernaturals.
When the compound she’s called home is attacked, Bryn escapes and tastes freedom for the first time in more than a decade.
But when the sins of her past race to catch up with her, she realizes a taste might be all the freedom she’s destined for. Bryn’s unusually strong earth magic puts a target on her back, and when she’s hit with a deadly curse, her only hope comes in the form of four dangerously sexy supernaturals.
Taj, the fire-affinity witch who worked as her jailer. Poe, a panther-shifter assigned to bring in Bryn for a bounty. Silas, a daemon with a dark past. And Calder, a telekinetic and Bryn’s first love.
If the five of them can’t work together, the curse will claim Bryn’s life and her magic. If that happens, it will spell disaster for supernaturals everywhere.

I finished this and thought I’d go onto reading book 2 but after thinking about it for a day there’s a lot about the book I won’t really love so I don’t think I’ll be continuing. The biggest thing for me is this girl was enslaved at 9 years old where she was kept in general population but still- no privacy, no freedom, no room to really grow. Then at 17 she’s put in isolation where her ONLY interaction is with guards who lead her down a hallway to a work room where she works alone. Guards who meet at her and I’m sure make disgusting comments but who are not aloud to touch her. How in the hell did this girl now become able to navigate a relationship with 2 men and break up fights or contention with all 4 of the guys. I mean she didn’t even read books until Taj started slipping them to her secretly only a few months ago. Yet she’s irresistible to these 4 men. I think the biggest thing for me was her relationship with Calder and Taj. Like it should be no big deal she wants more and she plays the “please don’t make me choose” card over and over. But the kicker was the guilt she tries to make Calder feel. He catchers her screwing Taj (it’s her first time mind you bc she’s a virgin) and the first thing she tells him is basically we had to. I was so week bc you used my magic but me touching him made me strong. So we had to. Oh but I wanted to and don’t make me choose. It’s felt very manipulative to me. So I’m going to put this series to the side and move on from this author.
This really strikes home the concept of responsibility - and who really is the one who should shoulder the blame. Set in the same world (and eventually the same town) as Twin Rivers Possession series, this has a few of the same faces but a totally different direction. Nice.
Pros: - Can’t help but feel for Bryan. - Fast paced. - The characters are very interesting.
Hard to rate this one. It's definitely interesting and I like all the main characters. But, it does end with a fairly open plot. Not much is really resolved in this one at all...will read the next book as I do want to know what happens with this group.
I managed to get about 30 percent of the way through before abandoning the book. It just wasn't that interesting to me, the main character didn't read like someone would having been held captive for so long, and for having been disconnected with her magic for equally as long there was no physiological or even magical atrophy as I would expect. The characters didnt gel for me, they felt unrealistic. It was disappointing, especially because I enjoyed the authors other series.

This novel is going to have a hard time finding an audience. The writing style is strongly YA, and reads like a typical YA novel with a love triangle through the first half of the book. The heroine solves this love triangle by falling for both of the men and having sex scenes with them. The sex scenes do not occur until 50 and then 85% of the way through the novel. However, the book is called a "reverse harem", which implies several other men. They do exist, the shifter and a daemon, who are bound to the heroine by a botched curse, but in those relationships are going to play out in subsequent novels to this one. A reader interested in a reverse harem story will be left confused by the lack of the usual tropes from that genre, and a YA reader will be put off by the graphic sex scenes.
The author's style is easy to read and the story flows well from one scene to another. The plotting is less clear. The romance elements are a sub-plot at best, and there are several longer plots that will play out over the subsequent stories, leaving his novel struggling to find a central focus. The heroine's voice is clear, and I hope to see her adjustment to being in the outside world after a long captivity will be explored in greater depth in the next book. As the novel is written in first-person POV I did occasionally forget if a male voice was Taj or Calder because of the "I" pronoun instead of the name repetition a third person POV would have provided. Poe has a more individual voice, but his POV was not frequently presented. Silas' thoughts were also only rarely shown.
The external conflict, of needing to not be marked for death, provides momentum and tension in the story. However, there is very little inner conflict. The heroine already likes the two men she has sex with in the story, and they like her. This is actually not that unusual in a reverse harem story, however, with this novel trying to be more than the standard story with that trope, the main characters having conflicting inner motivations and goals would have created a stronger narrative. Especially when the reader is given only mild UST between the heroine and other two men.
In the end, I do not know how to classify this novel or who to recommend it to. Perhaps if you grew up on Harry Potter fanfiction with a NC-17 rating, then this might be the story for you.
This book was one that I found hard to read, I liked the concept of the book but honestly could not get into it in the least. After reading the whole thing I can see where the storyline is going with the next few books and though this one that a lot of people who enjoy fantasy romance would probably enjoy, I am not one of them. September Stone is a talented writer that I am sure I will try again, but this book was just not my cup of tea. It was a little on the darker side, with more than a little negativity throughout the story. Which is to be expected given the name of the book. I have to give this book 3 out of 5 stars because it truly is not one that I enjoyed.
On the pepper scale it is about a Serrano Pepper, there are a couple of nice and toasty scenes, that bring the heat. As well as some scenes that alude to what will happen in book two of the series. I can say that this book is a reverse harem book, and that the next more than likely will have more than two "mates" that the witch will be with in a relationship. In this book there are only currently two love intrests.
I would recommend this book to someone who likes dark romances with the supernatural flair, or a fantasy fan. If you are not into multiple partners for a love intrest than this book is not the one for you. I think that this dark romance, may have been something I would have enjoyed at another time, I probably should have put aside and read something else, but I can't undo what I have done. I hope to read another one of her books when I am more in the mood for the dark fantasy that she seems to be geared towards, but then again that could just be this book. We will have to see.
I hope that this has helped you find your next Tantalizing Tome!

This was a brilliant read for me. We have witches, curses and monsters; just what every girl needs! Love the plot and story line created. Really like the characters created. Great world building. Very interested to see where the next one leads. Recommend reading.

Bryn has been locked up since she was a kid. She has been forced to make potions for the woman holding her. Bryn has been forced into solitary confinement for having a friendship with another person that was being held. He was shipped off as a part of her punishment. This has left her alone for years. Until a new guard befriends her. Taj is her saving light, like her old friend Calder was. Taj breaks her out for the people he was working for. His partner is Calder. Bryn has deep feelings for both of them. They are met by a bounty hunter out to bring in Bryn for murder charges for the potion she was forced to make and A demon that is bound to put a curse on her. The curse went wrong, now they must all work together to see if an elder mage will remove. While they are all together, she is experiencing feeling for more than just Calder and Taj. We will see how the rest of them come together. What doe the elder mage want for lifting the curse? Why is Bryn so special that her captor will do anything to get her back. What is the end game for the others. This is great start to series, the two relationships are slow burn that build up, looking forward to more answers as to what is really going on with Bryn. Can't wait to see her relationship develop with the other two guys. I will read other books in this series.
I received a free copy of this book, this is my honest review
***I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.*** I love reading about witches, mages or any supernatural beings, and this book has it all. So you follow Bryn who is a captive witch. Not her backstiry is pretty grim. As you read about her, you will begin to feel how she feels. She manages to find light in her darkness and stay strong. She has doubts about what to do, but who wouldn't if they endures what she has. She is a slave of Mona Ward and is does things for her without knowing what she is doing. She is stronger oblivious as to what she does is used for until she is finally told. While captive she met Calder who she had intense feelings for until they got caught and he was sent away. She also meetsTaj, Silas and Poe. Taj is a guard that escorts her in the compaond. Poe is a bounty hunter and Silas is a daemon. They all have Bryn in common. There is some heat that arises because all these men are attracted to her. She is living it up because guess what, she has a curse thrust upon her and so know these five need to break it. It's not easy, Bryn is being hunted cause of what she is. There are so many twist with this story, that I could not out it down. When I came to the end of the story, I was like what just happened. Now I have to wait. such a great read.
I was a huge fan of the first series of Twin Rivers and was excited to see that Ms. Stone was going to continue on with another story in Twin Rivers. While this one doesn't need to be read after the first series, there are guest appearances from the first series that pop-up and some by-lines that may make more sense if you do. That being said, this story is a little confusing starting out as you don't know what situation Bryn is in. Almost the entire book is about freeing Bryn from captivity and her subsequent escape leading directly after. A series of events occur that brings her face-to-face with someone from her past, a Hunter, the person rescuing her, and a demon determined to spell her with a death curse that goes haywire when they all touch just as it's being cast. Now they are all tired together and marked for death. There is only one person who could possible free them off this curse - a mage who will demand something in return, Elowen. As they set off, they start to see that they were all captives in one way or another. I'm interested to see where this story takes these slaves that were forced to do things for their Evil and corrupt Masters against their will.

Sometimes it really pays to slog through those 19 million freebie!! book promotions that periodically show up. I found September Stone’s Captive Witch (Twin Rivers Captive, Book 1) as a freebie in the “Stuff Your Kindle – Romance Free Reads” promo (to be fair, this was a great promo as I found a huge haul of books in it worth reading). I know this author as I’ve read many (possibly most or even maybe all) of her previously published works so it was a “no brainer” to grab this one. I’m soooo happy I did so as this was quite simply a perfect “reverse harem” urban fantasy adventure. By that I mean that not only did it hold up perfectly in the (yummy) sexy parts but even totally ignoring that aspect (though why you’d do so is beyond me), the urban fantasy adventure part was also perfectly told. I loved Bryn, the heroine of this tale. She’s a beautifully complex characters. Equally Gotta say that her guys, Taj (fire-affinity witch), Poe (panther-shifter), Silas (daemon) and Calder (telekinetic) are the perfect ingredients for this kind of tale and I’m totally looking forwarding to how things develop between them and Bryn. All in all a great book and perfect series start. Highly recommended.
A curse that will create an unstoppable monster. After years of being a magic-wielding slave to a crime lord, Bryn has been forced to whip up potions that have harmed a bunch of supernaturals. When her home is attacked, Bryn makes a break for it and experiences freedom for the first time in ages. However, when her past comes back to haunt her, she realizes this freedom thing might be short-lived. Bryn's earth magic is super potent, making her a target, and when she's hit with a deadly curse, To survive, she joins a motley crew of supernatural misfits, Four unlikely guardians. There's Taj, the fire-affinity witch who used to keep her locked up. Poe, a panther-shifter trying to capture her for a bounty. Silas, a daemon with a dark past and reuniting with her first love Calder.
The author's writing style is clear and engaging, making the story flow smoothly. However, the plotting is less defined, with multiple plot threads that will continue in future books, making it hard to pinpoint a central focus. The heroine's voice is distinct, and her adjustment to the outside world is a compelling aspect to explore further.
Bryn has been imprisoned by Mona Ward for a long time Mona makes Bryn make potions for her and if Bryn refuses then she will be punished and Bryn has been punished before so she won’t refuse, there is one person there that makes Bryn feel special and that’s Taj he brings her treats like cookies and books. Bryn has refused to make this potion something inside her believes that what she is making will kill someone so Bryn is taken back to her cell by Taj but he locks the door behind him and Bryn is worried that Taj is bad but no he is helping her to escape. There is a raid going on by the police and the FBI and Bryn is worried about the other girls who are slaves as well but Taj said the police will get them so Bryn goes with Taj, Mona told Bryn that she is a one in a million witch who is very powerful but Bryn didn’t believe it until now. That’s all I’m going to give you guys but this is just the beginning of a fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Bryn has been a captive of Mona's for many years - and kept in solitary for the last seven. She has been forced by the siren to make potions with no choice. When they are attacked and she escapes, Taj is there to help her - and Calder, her first love who Mona had got rid of when she discovered their feelings for each other is there too. Poe is a bounty hunter trying to capture Bryn for the elders - but they are all marked with the death curse by Silas, a daemon under the control of Mona's rival. They need to find Elowen, the only person who can help them reverse the death mark on them - but will she agree? And at what price? I cant wait to read the next episode in this series!

So I went in this story thinking it was reverse harem. After all, that's what it says it is but it wasnt. The heroine only sleeps with two men. Mfm. I don't know what takes place in the sequel but you will be very disappointed with this story if you are expecting reverse harem because it's no where in it. Also, I felt that considering it's genre that it would be much more mature but the characters and story played out like a YA book. For the most part, the story was quite clean. It was well written and the plot was good but because I was expecting reverse harem, but then it turns out nothing of the sort, that is why I gave it three stars. Captive Witch by September Stone is the first book in the Twin Rivers Captive series. This book had my attention as soon as the main character Bryn was introduced. Bryn is an earth witch who has been held captive since she was nine years old. This book is such a compelling read from start to finish. All the characters have unique traits and there are many plots going on at the same time throughout this book. I could not put it down. It is a wonderful paranormal adventure. I can definitely attest that anyone who enjoys magical fantasy will love this book as much as I do. Captive Witch is an adventure full of magical paranormal surprises.
We have mystery, suspense and more. Bryn is a earth witch being held captive by Mona to create potions. Calder was her first friend in captivity and she had grown to love. Then Mona sent him away. Tan is her second friend, bit still her jailer. She has feelings for him. Silas is daemon who is to mark her with death. Lillian is a vampire that wants to possess Bryn too for her powers. Poe is a bounty hunter who is hired to find her for the elders. Can Bryn ever be free? Why does she have feelings for so many people, even the ones that want to hurt her?

The plot is pretty basic. It seems like the world is small and everyone knows and can find anyone. You're out in the middle of nowhere, definitely the place you'll run into someone. Drive many hours and stop to go the bathroom.... yup you'll definitely run into someone you don't want too.
The FMC has been held in captivity since she was 9 and forced to make potions for a big bad. The council wants to kill her because one of the potions she brewed killed someone the council knew. That's like the person who assembled the phone that was used in a roadside bomb is responsible for the phone triggering the bomb.
An interesting premise that ends a little too soon. I love the forced proximity trope of everyone being cursed together. I hate that the book ends with a deus ex machina and an all-powerful character giving them a quest that you have to wait until book 2 to see how it ends. The book is entirely spent tromping around in the woods and then sleeping in hotels. The FMC kinda managed to finagle an unhappy harem of two guys who were already into her at the start of the story, while the other two guys just, I guess, watched impassively as they all made moon eyes at each other. I guess I missed out a bit on the will-they-or-won’t-they? Not a lot of tension there.
Bryn is a witch that has lived her whole life locked away with hardly any contact & used for magic. Until one day shes rescued which should be a happy event but ends up being a journey of self discovery, avoiding dying & finding love.....maybe. In the shape of four unlikely men - Calder, Taj, Silas & Poe. This book is definitely a fab fantasy RH book. Loved the characters especially Bryn. How she started out quiet & reserved then emerged into a stronger character altogether. A right good romp of a book & i loved it
Bryn is an enslaved witch making potions for Mona, a Siren! She has guards, most of whom she cannot stand but Taj is a favourite! One day, the compound where she live is raided and Taj helps her escape and this leads to all sorts of adventures! Along the way she reconnects to Calder and meets Poe and Silas! They become her guardians and so start her adventures to freedom!
A good read but there is no definitive end to the tale - the adventure is set to continue and I look forward to that!

A Demon, Bounty Hunter, and 2 Prison Guards encompass Bryan, an Earth Affinity Witch, in order to help her after she escapes from prison. Mona, a siren, had imprisoned her to make potions for the black market after her mother sold her to Mona for a drug fix when she was a child. Now a young adult, she is attempting to adjust to the males around her. She seems to gain magic and energy from them. This is an interesting story with well developed characters ending in a cliffhanger. Great read!

Set in the Twin Rivers universe, "Captive Witch" is the first book in a new series, with an intriguing storyline. Although fast-paced, the plot and sub-plots are revealed gradually, keeping the reader engrossed till the last page. Although it is categorized as a RH, the romantic elements between all the main characters are not yet fully developed, which is something that I really hope will be resolved in the next books in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and the story and characters were well developed. I loved the character dynamics and their individual personalities. The story was action packed and had suspense, intrigue, emotion, hot chemistry and romance. I’d highly recommend this book! I can’t wait for the next book in the series!!

Bryn was a witch, a very powerful one. She gets freed from her slavery. She is being sought after for crimes she didn't know she committed. To top it off, while trying to administer a death mark they all get it and will die at the next full moon. They find a witch who could remove the spell but they have to retrieve something for her. So will they accomplish this? Onto the next book.
This was a slow paced story that has a lot of drama and suspense. Even though it was slower it still draws you in. It is extremely well written and the characters are stunningly developed. It’s descriptions are vivid and cause the scenes to easily be pictured. It does end in a cliffhanger but the ride getting there is so worth it. This is definitely a must read.
I got to exactly half way through before I gave up. It needs editing, i gave up just as 2 characters became interchangeable. If you're charging people money for a book it needs to be edited properly. Its really dull too. The story could have been interesting but it wasn't, the characters are very one dimensional and utterly bland. It also has a really childish feel to it like a YA book.
I got this on Kindle unltd. I'd have been furious if I'd paid for it.
