Being around kids and teens has helped to keep my spirit young and brought me to the point that I had to get some stories out ... and 'kilrB3 Media' was born. The inspiration for 'kilrB3 Media & Design' springs from my experience in raising the three killer "B's" ... Brandon, Blake, and Brianna." Along with raising a family, for many years both my wife Donna and I have been very active with church youth groups and students from all walks of life.

I am currently involved with a College & Career class and have been with young people, both teens and young adults, for over 20 years having held positions ranging from Junior Church programs to Youth Pastor, from school teacher to Athletic Director, and from summer camp to directing youth activities.

The Barton Family Adventure series is aimed at kids and young teens, but great for home school moms, parents, or those who like wholesome adventures. My desire is to tell the story that being a Christian doesn't have to mean "boring". In fact, putting faith into action can be the biggest adventure of your life!

The first chapter takes us back in time to the 1500s aboard a slave ship that was delivering slaves. Don't shake your head, the author ties all this in very cleverly eventually. Back to the present, the Barton family are all aboard their new boat in this, the second book in the series. They are heading to Haiti to work with Doctor Dan and Mrs. Sue. LOVE the facts provided to readers regarding the island, the people and some of their customs.

Voodoo has a dark and very real hold on the island people. The witch doctors have created ways to make the people fear them and therefore stay under their control. One of these is Ghomba whose son is now very sick. Is there any way that Doctor Dan can treat him but more than that, find out what is causing his sickness? Whilst Ghomba is not a threat to take lightly, Doctor Dan knows that he serves a God who is way more powerful. Not only do the family learn of life in Haiti, they also experience their first earthquake! How will everything turn out?

Given the title I was a little wary on reading this to our children. Whilst it is suspenseful and there is evil evident it is presented well, not scary and there is never any doubt as to who is more powerful. We serve an almighty God! Just like the first book in the series, this one is written through Nat's eyes and experience. Easy read but alas, like the first book, it could use an editor or a good proof reader. Several errors that I will not go into again as I covered them in my review of the first book. I downloaded this book onto my Kindle. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

The Barton family is off again to help missionaries in the Caribbean! In the second book of the Barton Family Adventure Series, Voodoo Encounter, the Barton’s sail into Haiti to help a missionary family prepare for revival services. The first day there, Nat runs into trouble when he gets lost in the village...ending up at the door of the local witch doctor! The short novella goes on to explore what happens when an earthquake shakes up the mission’s plans for revival and how the witch doctor stirs up his own amount of trouble.

This chapter book is geared towards a younger audience, but even as an adult, I enjoyed it. Missionary stories are near the top of my list of favorite reads and though this book had a simple plot, it was a fun read. I liked the author’s descriptions of Haiti and what the people face there. Voodoo Encounter is a good read for younger teens who are interested in missionary work. Of course, it was a perfect fit for my reading challenge, “Around The World In 80 Books!”
