Everybody wants something from her. She’s just looking for a little peace and quiet…
Tired mother Tasha Gerome wishes she weren’t such a mess. With a deadbeat ex-husband hounding her for cash, a house so bad the cleaning service quit, and a rich doctor falsely accusing her of writing him poor reviews, she’s desperate for anything to go right. And when she’s completely ignored at a speed-dating event, she fears she’ll never get herself together.
As her drunken former spouse continues to dog her and embarrasses the kids in public, Tasha struggles to find any solution to the crushing stress-fest. But with help from her estranged sister and a boost from her ex-brother-in-law, she tries to summon the inner strength to finally put her fuzzy-pink-pig-slippered foot down.
Can Tasha work up the courage to live on her own terms?
My Best Mistake is the first book in the My Best series of humorous women’s fiction novels. If you like quirky characters, domestic chaos, and indomitable spirits, then you’ll love Carole Wolfe’s sidesplitting suburban romp.
Carole Wolfe writes women’s fiction that makes you smile. She enjoys running at a leisurely pace, crocheting baby blankets for others and drinking wine when she can find the time. After moving nine times in twenty years, Carole and her family have settled in Texas.
Oh my!! The cover depicts it all.. 😂 😂 TASHA did wear the pink fuzzy pig slippers which went oink oink. Her life appeared to be a mess with an ex-husband hustling her for money, mother wanting her to date, sister not getting along, infertility specialist threatening to sue her. But love for her children and family shone right through the pages of the book. And that was what kept me going.
My first book by author Carole Wolfe was a fast read. At 195 pages, the author gave me a complete story. It was extremely entertaining to see the events that unfolded in Tasha's life, some of them were slippery falls and weird speed dating. I felt like a voyeur wanting to gossip about her. She did win 100 million pounds in lottery
It took the whole book for Tasha to grow a backbone, but how could I fault a woman whose heart was larger than she? The only thing that irked me was that she was quite messy, how could she expect her children to pick up after her when she didn't? Ah well..
Overall, this was jammed with humor along with love, relationships, friendships which showed me how important family bonds were, and it was family who could prop you up when you need moments of rest. Read it between intense books, it freshens the mind.
My Best Mistake: Tasha’s Story by Carole Wolfe My Best Series #1
Money doesn’t buy you love or happiness or much else...not really...and Tasha Gerome is probably someone that would echo that sentiment. Raising her children with a deadbeat conman ex-husband is eased a bit by the help her ex-brother-in-law, her sister Sara and her mother Helene provide. She smiles and looks on the bright side but there are times that probably seem more difficult than others and one of those is when Doug the deadbeat returns to town. She knows she can handle him but what a pain in the patoot to have to do so!
This book has twins that could not be more opposite, a mother more keen to marry her daughters off than just about anything else, an ex-brother-in-law with a secret of his own and a whole lot more going on. There was humor, heart, family and community that were there for Tasha.
What I liked: * Tasha’s can-do attitude, her ability to face down difficulties whether at her children’s school or with her husband and her willingness to put herself out there again on the dating scene (with a push from her mother) * The look into a life that I have never experienced and how someone might go about moving on and dealing with the issues faced * Brad & Carleton * Sara – do hope she finds a guy to date and a life for herself beyond work * Tasha’s parents – though her mom can be a bit pushy * The potential for the future
What I did not like: * Doug the deadbeat ex-husband – he deserved worse than he got but sometimes that happens
Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I read more in the series? I think so What would I like to see next? Sara’s story
Thank you to BOTBS and the author for the copy to read and review – this is my honest review.
A great little story about a woman and her family who are experiencing troubles. Tasha’s ex-husband is a control freak and wants Tasha’s money, but will she go back to him?
If there’s one thing that this Ginger Book Geek likes, it’s discovering new authors. Carole Wolfe is certainly a new author for me and enjoying ‘My Best Mistake’ as much as I did, I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future. ‘My Best Mistake’ is actually a novella and it focuses on a character called Tasha Gerome. I couldn’t wait to get started and so I dived straight in. I thoroughly enjoyed ‘My Best Mistake’ but more about that in a bit. What can I say about Tasha Gerome? Well apart from the fact that she deserves a medal. She is the mother of twins – one boy and one girl. Tasha and the father of her children split some time ago. Her house is a bit chaotic but then what can you expect from having two lively children in the house. Her ex-husband is a pain in the bottom to put it politely. He seems to have a bit of a vendetta going on against the IVF clinic that helped them to conceive the twins. At one point he was even convinced that he wasn’t the biological father but it was soon proven that he is. Her ex-husband seems to want to stir up trouble for Tasha and the children. Personally I think he needs a good slap with one of Tasha’s piggy slippers. Tasha has a quirky sense of humour which gets her out of some sticky situations and her humour helps her to get through the day. She’s going to need a lot of humour since she has the threat of legal action hanging over her from the doctor at the IVF clinic, her ex husband is being an arse (that’s an insult to arses everywhere) and her mother is convinced that Tasha needs to get back into the dating game. Talk about having a lot on your plate. I took to Tasha from the start and I really felt for her. At times I just wish that I could have jumped inside the pages of the book to give her a hug and to sort out those who were on her back. It took me next to no time to get into this story. In fact by the time I got to the bottom of the first page I knew that I wouldn’t be able to put the book down. That’s exactly what happened too. The book wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. As this is a novella and not a full length book, I seemed to race through the story at a rate of knots. I was enjoying the story, the characters and the shenanigans of the various characters so much that I just couldn’t stop turning those pages. This was one of those stories that made me smile and giggle as I imagined what I had just read. One such example is the fact that Tasha accidentally goes out without changing her footwear and she ends up attending an appointment in her piggy slippers which oink with every step she takes. ‘My Best Mistake’ is brilliantly written. I had a bit of a hard time believing that this was a debut novella as the writing is so polished and supremely confident. Carole certainly drew me into the story from the first word and once she had my attention, she wasn’t going to let it go. Carole has a cracking sense of humour and this shines through in the writing. She certainly had me giggling away a few times. Carole writes so realistically that I really did feel as though I had been parachuted into Tasha’s world and it was a world I loved. I felt as though I was part of the story myself. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘My Best Mistake’ and I will be first in the queue to read Carole’s new work in the future. I would definitely recommend this novella to other readers. This was a highly enjoyable and amusing read. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
This is a lazy Sunday afternoon read to lose yourself in. Tasha has a life that most would envy, a huge 100 million lotto win and 7-year-old twins so her life had changed dramatically but one thing you can’t change is your family and who you are. Tasha’s mind was as disorganised as her house, where things tended to stay where they fell, she drove me crazy! So in her oink! oink! bright pink slippers it was no surprise that everything considered disaster was only a couple of steps away. When her ex-husband appears, a character who is sleazier than anyone I would care to know I just cringed on every line he was on. What a diabolical father he was! I just read with open mouth and anger, a reaction I am sure which is spot on for the reaction the author was after. Although Tasha’s mum is, to put it mildly, overbearing, she does have a good heart. I think I would have been inclined to buy her a lovely place in the sun and visit her in the school holidays. Tasha’s mum is determined to fix her up with a new bloke, which is quite funny, especially with two visits to speed dating. The story unfolds nicely as ends tie-up and a new Tasha is beginning to blossom. Very entertaining.
This was my first foray in women’s fiction and what a great way to start. It made me feel a little bit naughty like I was snooping in someone’s diary.
The main protagonist Tasha was an absolute delight, messy, funny and the type of woman I would definitely want as a friend. Her life is complete chaos even after a huge lottery win. She has fraternal twins and her now ex husband makes it blatantly obvious he wanted two boys so completely ignores the girl. (Yes he’s that horrible). Oh and even after getting half the lottery money in the divorce he still keeps crawling back for money. (How was fifty million not enough??).
I went through every emotion reading this book from chuckling with laughter at the oinking pig slipper incident, anger at Tasha and how she allows herself to be treated and a warm fuzzy feeling from the lovely Brad her brother in law.
This book really captures the ups and downs of family dynamics and relationships. How when everything is falling apart it’s family and friends that support you and hold you up. With a very real cast of characters it’s like being invited into her home and family and I can’t wait to visit again but next time with her sister in Book two.
Tasha Gerome is just trying to make the best of her life. After winning the lottery and splitting up from her husband, she is trying to raise her 2 children the best way she can, but she has zero organisational skills which leads to a very haphazard existence. Her mother is always trying to organise her life, her sister doesn’t agree with her life choices and her ex is still causing as much trouble as he can. I have to say I liked Tasha, she seemed normal. Despite having lots of money from her lottery win, her life was as much as mess as anyone else’s. She didn’t have all the answers and she got easily distracted. I loved the idea of her pig slippers that oinked when she walked, and I so want some. All the characters were believable, and I took to most of them even meddling mom), with the exception of the ex…. well there has to be at least one character you dislike in a book otherwise it gets a bit boring. At the beginning it looks like Tasha is very much the doormat, allowing others to dictate what she does and when, but with the support of her extended family she eventually finds the courage to stand up for herself and do what makes her happy. There was plenty of humour throughout the book that had me smiling and kept me reading. Tasha’s attempts at speed dating were quite funny especially when she changed her style from mum next door and she went from being invisible to getting loads of attention. They say you cant judge a book by its cover but in the world of speed dating clearly the cover has to be really appealing otherwise you wont even take a look. Thankfully even Tasha saw the funny side to the whole situation. My Best Mistake is a quick read but one well worth picking up as you won’t get bored, and if nothing else it will show you that maybe your own family isn’t as bad as you think.
Tasha won the lottery big time. When she and her husband split of course so also were the winnings. They have seven year old twins via IVF although her husband denies that they are his as her “asked for “ two boys. The doctor involved is threatening her with legal action over some bad reviews, which had nothing to do with Tasha as it happens but of course she is big news with the lottery win. I liked Tasha. She has grit determination and although has her weaknesses is no push over. She is going through a messy time with her ex husband who just wants more and more and also making discoveries about the rest of her family. This is the story of a single mother and the ups and downs despite having wealth. In other words, having money doesn’t necessarily make you happy. Of secrets and discoveries of life, love and those special moments. A fairly short (195 pages) easy read that kept me within the pages.
Entertaining and funny .. this is a series I could really get into!
Tasha always dreamt of family life; providing a safe, secure and loving home for her children. Unfortunately, her ex-husband was a bit of an idiot and she finds herself the single mother to seven year old twins who are the light of her life, but the idiot continues to put in an appearance every so often . . .
I fully admit it took me a few pages to find my level in this one, but once I began to appreciate the humour it all fell into place and I alternated between gasping and giggling! Tasha is a realistic character - most of us can place ourselves in her shoes at some point or another in our lives. There is a grand array of characters; the family dynamics are absolutely believable but, for me, the children were the icing on the cake! So very true to life and such fun - as children should be! I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for the rest of this series, and very happy to give it four stars.
Sometimes the most inconsequential things can make all the difference. In Wolfe’s My Best Mistake, the main character is Tasha, a single mom, whose life we would think is made, after all, she won the lottery. She’s filthy rich, she’s smart, she’s loving, she’s funny and sarcastic, but everything is falling apart. Wolfe takes us on a whirlwind tour through Tasha’s messy divorce, a defamation of character suit, her trying relationships with her all-business sister, enigmatic brother-in-law, and gossiping medaling mother. Not all is bad, she has two adoring seven-year-old twins that keep her focus clear and get her through to the end. This is a quick read that will entertain you, make you laugh out loud and give every reader who thinks their family is the most difunctional, hope that things can change, but not always how you planned them.
Tasha is a lottery winner, recent divorcee, now single mom, poor housekeeper, and easily manipulated by her ex-husband and mother with her own ideas of who Tasha should be. At the end of this short novel, Tasha's house is neat, she is able to tell both her ex- and mother, "No", and she is enjoying a budding romance with finances intact. How she makes that journey (and what role the pink piggy slippers play) is the subject of this tightly-told story alive with subtle and self-deprecating humor.
I confess the genre is far outside my reading comfort zone, but as the author is a new friend, I took that step. It was a fun read and certainly reflects the personality of its brilliant author.
This was a nice story about a woman named Tasha who gets divorced from a controlling husband and finds friendship with his best friend and his brother also. She also ends up repairing her friendship with her sister. Finally lets go of all her control issues with her ex husband and learns to speak up for herself and not be scared he might get mad at her. After all you guess it took off with a girl named China who doesn't like children and he has a set of twins that he claims the boy but says the girl is not his.
This is not my typical read. I like spy books with lots of action, but I found this story compelling. It drew me in from the very beginning because the main character, Tasha, was so relatable. From the first page, I felt like this hot mess momma should be my friend. The author’s writing is easy to read and has just the right amount of description to allow the reader to picture the scene and jump into the story as you walk by Tasha’s side through her mess of a life. This story had something for everyone, and I look forward to Carole’s next book.
She is a great mom, but not a good housekeeper. She divorced her husband after winning the lottery. He had cheated on her. But she had a set of fraternal twins who she adored. She was a great mom, but couldn’t standup to here’s husband. She always gave in to his selfish needs. But later, she gets get voice back and things change
Tasha’s troubled life was not made easier with lottery winnings but she gained her twins who are the light of her life while her ex is storm cloud threatening everyone. Timid & afraid in her marriage, Tasha learns how to claim life & love for herself, gaining strength and building positive relationships along the way. - an easy summer read
My Best Mistake by Carole Wolfe is a humorous and heartwarming story of the chaotic life of Tasha, a single mother of twins. Her inner monologues are really entertaining and relatable. Struggles with her ex-husband, legal troubles, and annoying daily life incidents make it an engaging and light-hearted read.
I enjoyed this book. It had some great funny parts and you really got a look into her family. I think it was the kind of read I needed today. Not really any romance just a Mom and her kids. Everyday life at it's best.
A clumsy, ex-wife who has been ignored, cheated on and generally mistreated by her ex husband gains better control of her life, enjoys support from her family, and stands up to herself and her kids.
It is refreshing to read about characters who have some of the same problems as my family and read how they solve their problems and differences and become better friends and family.
A really good book and so informative & possibly help deal with an ex! Family relationships also and just dealing nicely with nosy people & family! Absolutely worth the read!!!
