Mr Darcy's Legacy: A Pride and prejudice Variation

Rate this book
Mr Darcy is eagerly awaiting his wedding to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, the young woman he considered to be the mistress of his heart. Unfortunately, his family and mostly Lady Catherine and Lord Matlock are against this union, giving rise to countless rumours and speculations. London society enjoys scandal enough to embrace such an unexpected one, trapping Darcy and Elizabeth in a net of gossip that affects their tranquillity.
While their love grows stronger and their future seems it will be filled with connubial bliss, a letter from Darcy’s past shatters their present, making him question everything he has known his entire life. Is he prepared to open his heart and his mind to such a tormenting revelation? Is London’s Ton ready to accept such a disclosure, or will it turn it into a new subject for more disturbing rumours?
Will a gentleman such as Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy, who takes pride in his family’s past, accept that his legacy is not what he believed it to be?

I truly believe you would have to be a lawyer or even a judge to resolve all the unanswered legal questions in this story. It was very interesting but in the end the main parties really ignored all the new information about marriages and heirs and even birth status. Maybe in a Mormon/Church of the Latter Day Saints a man or even a woman having more than one marriage might be acceptable but in Regency times it would have been considered bigamy - even though that physical evidence of the church registry was supposedly destroyed.

The story begins with both couples, Jane & Bingley, Elizabeth & Darcy, engaged and on their way to London along with Mr. Bennet. Darcy, in this variation, finds that Aunt Catherine has spread gossip about the unsuitability of Elizabeth throughout all her connections and relatives in the ton. He is much more stressed about how Elizabeth will be accepted than in canon after they had become engaged.

On top of that he now is presented with letters from his deceased mother and a codicil to her will. Much of the story focuses on what the letters in particular reveal. Imagine finding out your mother had a whole separate "life" before she married your father. And the most important part of that "life" is still alive and now in touch with Darcy. Darcy sees the man first as being a prized support to his and Elizabeth's engagement and the man even plans to throw a ball in their honor. However as the letters are read we learn he has much more to offer than an engagement ball. But now the question is whether what he is offering it good or if it will have detrimental and permanent effects on not only Darcy but all those in his family...and Elizabeth.

It was not difficult to realize where this was going but there were some strings left dangling even though we had several happy endings. I can't imagine how this would have played out if someone in a legal position called the parties into account. The story seems to imply that although there would be rampant gossip about the relationship between Fitzroy and Darcy no one outside their immediate circle was going to be told the truth.

This was interesting although certainly a stretch of the imagination.

Who gets what?

Can the first son of a duke inherit the title if he has 2 other sons and didn’t know the first one was his?

Can Darcy inherit Pemberley if his mother was secretly married to a duke?

Can Georgiana inherit if her mother was married to a duke?

Can anyone believe or understand this story?

Compelling intrigue!

An elevation of rank trope with our dear couple against the world rather than them at odds.

Our dear couple was betrothed but their sojourn to London met with unexpected troubles from the ton, spurned by opposing relations.
Aid came from a surprising source and secrets from their past were unveiled.

There was plenty of page time with ODC and a lot of romantic interludes in this thrilling albeit not dramatic story.

Recommend.

Mr Darcy's pride is based on his understanding of who he is. If his understanding of his own heritage was to have a fundamental change, can he learn to accept himself? Can he explain the situation to the love of this life and his sister?

I see why this got bad reviews

It wasn’t as horrid as I thought it was going to be. I did skip some pages. But this book had so much potential. She spent wayyyyyy to much time going down memory lane especially since we new the conclusion. But so many characters she could’ve fleshed out. In the end it was just disappointing.

A love to last beyond a lifetime

As much as this variation is about love, it is not solely on Elizabeth Bennet’s and Fitzwilliam Darcy’s. It’s a surprising, though a bit predictable, love story about Lady Anne Darcy and a Duke that reveals the true heritage of Fitzwilliam Darcy.

As Darcy and Elizabeth nears their wedding, they are faced with the truth of Darcy’s mother’s past which is instrumental in strengthening their love for each other. Elizabeth does not fail to comfort and support Darcy in these troubling times. This further strengthens Darcy’s belief that he truly chose the right partner in life for himself regardless of what his family, society and the ton say.

What caused the star deduction is the grammatical errors in some parts, although not too serious to dissuade this reader into recommending this highly to fan-readers of JAFF. Also, more of Darcy-Elizabeth romance was lessened by another equally extraordinary story of love, which however seems to overshadow that if our beloved couple.

A Lady Anne Darcy Story

- The beginning of the story is about Elizabeth and Darcy facing the ton and all the rumors surrounding their engagement. However, the story soon became Lady Anne's. Suddenly, Caroline, Lady Catherine, Lord Matlock and the rest of London society that opposed Darcy and Elizabeth's engagement wasn't heard from again.

- The majority of the book deals with Lady Anne's past life and how Darcy, Georgiana, and Elizabeth process that information. A disappointment since I was expecting Darcy and Elizabeth to be the main focus. They were more like the characters needed to reveal Lady Anne's secrets.

- For some reason, Lady Anne's letters (more like notes) couldn't be read by one person in one sitting, but it had to be broken up a note or section at a time by four different readers, with discussions, breaks, and reflections in between. At some point I started to skim.

- I liked the duke and wish I was able to read more about what took place after the discovery.

- I was hoping the epilogue would give me more insight into Darcy and Elizabeth's future, but it wasn't meant to be. The epilogue was very short and was more about Georgiana and the Duke's happiness.

Be prepared to be thoroughly delighted ❤️

Are you looking to read just a same old same retelling of Darcy and Elizabeth? I hope not because this variation is brilliantly done. It’s a new richly peppered story with fantastic new characters that make our beloved couple a story of intrigue, sparkle and delight. It’s a very entertaining and enjoyable P&P variation. If you are looking for it to be the same as the original, go read the original! But if you adore P&P fan fiction, this is a must read. Sit back, get a cup of tea and a biscuit and be prepared to be thoroughly delighted.

Pretty good story!

I really enjoyed the storyline. I don’t think this plot has been done before, however once all was revealed the story ended rather abruptly. So many loose ends could have and should have been tied up, but weren’t.

Great Story

I loved this Lizzy and Darcy. Mr Bennett was pretty good too. The Duke was amazing and Lady Anne Darcy a surprise. I am glad that lady C and the other gossipers were shutdown by the Duke! Good live story!

The idea was interesting but needed a bit more development. Raises more questions than it answers about legalities, gossip etc. Needs a good edit to tighten it up and fix some naming mistakes.

Excellent variation! Very emotional, beautiful story. It's not your typical variation, but delves into the past, changing and expanding how decisions made can affect the future. Well done.

Darcy and Lizzy are engaged but Darcy's family is set to interfere. Lady Catherine spread mean thoughts around London after their engagement.
Focus is mostly on Lady Anne's past. Turns out Darcy is the first son to a duke. Lizzy and Darcy spend time together in his London home before they are married.

This Pride and Prejudice Variation begins after Elizabeth has accepted Darcy’s second proposal, and Lydia and Wickham's marriage. What could go wrong as Darcy and Elizabeth travel to town. What secrets will be revealed.
It was just about enjoyable enough.
