4.5 stars Ghaawd this read made me feel so good. It was gentle, sweet, considerate and with a lot of wonderful feelings. Noah lives with his parents in the Amish community. He is at the age of eying girls.... and that’s exactly what he is NOT doing. When the new reverend and his son Jeremiah arrive in their village both boys are smitten with the other. It’s an instant thing and not allowed in the community. They meet each other as much as possible...secretly.... Noah’s parents and Jeremiah’s father know their sons well.
What made me really happy was the chances they had and the good feelings and positive vibe this story gave away... I was somewhat surprised by it.
It was a short delicate read with a lot of emotions. The love and determination the boys had was uplifting The way of writing was very appealing, it gave me the feeling as if I was right in the middle of the community, the sentences written in the same style as the environments, the developing was enough for the length of the story. Yes... I loved this little gem !!
While I did enjoy it I didn’t love it. I like the narration and the idea of the story but I found it all very whimsical. It was insta love as in 3 days later and very if I can’t have you how can I go on.
Jeremiah and Noah meet when Jeremiah is helping his dad build furniture for the new pastor Noah’s dad. Being good Amish boys they are strictly forbidden to love the same sex. But Noah is gay and has came out to his father. His father thinks God will love you regardless of who you love. Lucky for Noah Jeremiah has very understanding parents and they accept him for who he is.
This story had the potential to be amazing but some parts just had me rolling my eyes. All in all I enjoyed it for what it was a quick read.
Arc copy received in exchange for an honest review.
Forbidden Ecstasy by Daniel Elijah Sanderfer is a short and sweet story about forbidden love between two Amish young men.
Noah and Jeremiah are adorable together in their young insta-love... exploration of their feelings. The story made me smile when these two were together. Their families really supported them even though it was not what they were taught to believe.
This story definitely takes a low angst road for the topic of coming out to family in that religious community, it is not the book to read if looking for a drama filled, excommunicated type of tale... it instead shares a message of love and acceptance. Sure there are some moments where the characters are angsty butin all its mostly low on that drama and high on the sweetness factor.
The writing style is definitely more short story than novel which I can appreciate.
It's also told through various characters' points of view and sometimes within same chapter you will hear from multiple character's.
Overall, I enjoyed the book.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
I really enjoyed this coming of age tale of young forbidden love.
Noah and Jeremiah are both young Amish boys. Hard working and from good respectable families.
When Jeremiah and Noah meet for the first time it’s insta love. Nothing or no one will stand in their way despite the fact they could be outcasts in their community.
The story is very innocent and I like the writing style it’s told from multiple people and sometimes all within the one chapter. I also like the fact the epilogue is told many years later so you find out how everything played out.
When you find that one person who makes your heart full then you must do everything in your power to be with that person. This story is full of obstacles that could have stopped many people, but when there is love, real love, nothing can stop it.
The first thing I noticed about this book was the beautiful cover. I immediately wanted to read it based on that alone. However, the excerpt was also very intriguing. Its the story of two young men in an Amish community who are desperate to be together despite their religious upbringing and concern for the outcome of their relationship.
The characters in this story were beautifully constructed and I admit, they made me tear up over their pain. Unfortunately, I thought the story was a bit too easy. In a perfect world, they would only have the hurdle they faced in this book. I don't think things would have gone this way in a normal Amish community since they don't go this way for many gay couples without religious beliefs to contend with. This was a beautiful story and was well written. I love the message behind it and I wish it were this real and easy for everyone to love who they want to love.
