Bobby Basil loves writing books that entertain, educate, and enthrall readers from ages 2-12 (and their parents, of course). He has also written for Disney, Nickelodeon, Amazon Studios, and many other entertainment companies. He is the author of the children's travel book series "Travel Bug", biography book series "Texting with History", and ESL Spanish/English language teaching book series "Pedro & Pete."
Good biography for children I loved this biography because, in addressing the life of Aretha Franklin, the social and racial context of the United States during the 60s is also discussed with segregation, Civil Rights, through her song "Respect" . Only the illustrations are too simple, but it is a choice of the author for all this series. I feel that this choice makes a little monotonous the support for children. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Kids understand texting so when they can read about texting someone as cool as Aretha Franklin, that is going to make them interested. It is okay that she is texting from the great beyond. This is a great teacher about the history of certain important people, in this case Aretha Franklin. Another great learning tool for children.

This book breaks down Aretha Franklins biography in terms of how she grew up, her using her voice at an early age, and her many vocal accomplishment s. It also deals with the Civil Rights Movement in a manageable way for young ones. We should show respect for Aretha and this book!
