Edira Putri
Wild Flower and Other Metaphors
Gramedia Pustaka Utama
Edira Putri
7.5

Just like what Edira Putri promised on the title, Wild Flower and Other Metaphors is adorned with beautiful and mesmerizing metaphors. Albeit concise, Putri manages to convey her pain and sadness with such efficacy.

Review on Edira Putri : Wild flowers and other metaphors

This book for me is one of the best poem book by Indonesian writer ( that’s written in English)

The metaphors the writer used are witty and there are several layers of interpretation we can take from her poem. The vocabulary in the poem is rich and the references she used are smart, that we'll immediately know she is really fluent in English.

Her poems for me must be enjoyed while sitting in a quiet space, so we are able to truly enjoy the words and meaning she meant to convey. I think she did a great job and I enjoy some of her poems here. I am confused about the ratings this book get, but then, like people said, art is about personal taste for each person.

Personally my favorite would be:

The Tree
Deductive Reasoning
Gum

Here I quote Deductive Reasoning:

First devotion

Then promises

burnt and broken

First conclusion

Then premises

bent and twisted

That’s how we fell in love

Head first

Clinging on to an old love is like wearing a dead watch on your wrist.
You love the comfort and confidence of carrying a familiar weight, even though it does less than nothing.

No promises
just life's demises
rubbles of what was
of what could have been

even when it has its hole
