I thought this was a bit better than book one, being a little more even paced and believable. There are a few editing issues (ex. trader instead of traitor) but the writing style is good. I get that Maddie would chafe at the feeling of being treated like a child and not part of the "team", but that theme seemed to be a bit too pervasive throughout the book. It did set up well for the next book.
I enjoyed this second book in the series more than the first! Difficult to put down. Frightening situations the three main characters get into. We meet a few interesting and likable new characters. So much happens during the long distance the characters have traveled in less than two weeks since the event. I highly recommend this series to those who enjoy the PA genre.
When a series grabs you and you feel a part of the story, that for me is the epitome of a great author. T.L. Payne does that for me. Excellent storyline, as good (or better) than the first book. Love all the characters, but wish they would shave their beards.
Young female narrator and setting make the book an entertaining experience. The book is more about personal experience than having a bunch of super expert huge brain survival experts dictating trivia about survival.
Great survival trilogy middle story, some wicked turns
Great survival trilogy middle story, some wicked turns but that is life after a Catastrophic survivalist only event.
Sadly to much of what is written is very accurate depictment entirely realistic on how fast our world would change, and what we would need to survive, and how we would have to become in order to survive. We can already see these tendencies in today’s society… those who did nothing to earn things, want to just take them, by force if necessary, because they feel they deserve them. Including things that others sacrificed for. And unfortunately the government up-Hevel and power grabbers isn’t far from the current reality either… if they can take our constitutional rights from us, they will or allow other to do so.
Turbulent, book one in this series, had me hooked from the first chapter. So, having loved that book I was extremely eager to know more about these characters that I’d enjoyed hearing about. Could the next instalment give me the same thrill? Could it be as entertaining? Yes, is the simple answer. TL Payne keeps the same level of nail biting tension that was so carefully built up during the first book and adds to it with each chapter of this one. There are some hard decisions to make for Maddie and co. in this story. Given what is happening to the world around them can there truly be a right answer? I’ve loved this book as much as the first. A really enjoyable story that’s well written, recommended.
I like this genre of books but am selective as to which ones I read. The narrator makes this series more interesting in my opinion. I like the info about being prepared because I have a great of the electrical grid going down or being sabotaged by enemies of the State. It's escapist reading for me. I liked this series, the fast pace, kept me engaged, suspenseful, & good characters. A minimum of bad language but appropriate for ex military so it didn't bother me. No inappropriate sexual content which I like. Just s great story that kept me going to book five. I am currently having to read book five because it hasn't been narrated as of yet. I suppose it's release time and narration hasn't caught up with each other.
I got bored with and slightly confused by this story through the book's first half. I understand that the author was trying to show only what the main character sees, but it made the action somewhat disjointed, simply because the story didn't follow it. We only know something happened because there were some repercussions, which didn't entirely make sense. This was done intentionally because the main character felt like she was being left out and treated like a kid, but it also left the reader out. Thankfully, things got better and more engaging by the end, so I'm glad I stuck with it. I will be reading the 3rd book in order to see the many loose ends tied up--along with, hopefully, some more character growth. But will be taking a break and coming back to it at a later time.
I loved this book. The first book was good this one even better. Follows Maggie and her brother Zach along with their deceased Dad’s Marine brothers. There is a lot of action, plenty of twists and turns as they continue to travel to Maddie’s dad’s cabin. There are lots of pitfalls along the wal, but I like that 18 year old Maddie seems to be able to hod her own in this awful post-apocalyptic world. T.L. Payne is a great author and I am on to the third book in the series. If this is your genre and want to know what the United States could have happen, I suggest you start at the first book in the series, Turbulant and move forward. I can’t wait to start the next one.

A mysterious, captivating, addictive and entertaining novel.
The characters are successful and quite endearing.
Hunted is book two of the Days of Want Series by TL Payne. You must read book one in order to truly follow along with the Langston family story as they struggle to get to safety in a post EMP world. Once again, Payne had me engaged as Maddie, Emma and Zach make their way to their father's Marine buddy Ryan. Having trudged through miles of violence, the Langston kids finally think they've reached safety with Ryan. Until Department of Homeland Security comes calling and sending this group of survivalists on the run again... Payne does a great job of telling the true story of survival of the fittest. Maddie is a wonderful heroine and holds her own against a band of military brothers.
This part was more exciting and eventful than the first. There were some sad moments that had me crying but these characters were determined to reach their destination. They were going through it too. Luckily, they were prepared and in good shape or they never would've made it. It's sad how people act during the end of times with no one in charge. Even the people in charge are power hungry and not helping people in need. It's every man or woman for their self. This is a good series and I've gotta read on and see what happens next.
I really enjoyed listening to Hunted. This book continues the story of Maddie's family trying to get back together after an EMP takes down most of the US. This story has just enough drama, action, and sadness to be believable. In this story no one is exempt from hurt or hardship and even the preppers are caught off guard as they find you can never prep for everything. I received a free copy of the audio book and am leaving my honest review of the book.
Disappointed. Nowhere near as great as the first book. Payne really doesn't know how to write women. He wants to portray them as tough, intelligent survivors, but them come off as simpering, weak, hysterical. Beth, especially, is extremely irritating, and Maddie is no better "quit treating me like a child" [pout, pout]. Quite amazing since T.L. Payne is, herself, and independent farming woman. I don't know where she gets such a poor opinion of women, or why.
This book is absolutely amazing! The struggles and turmoil both internal and outside physically that the main character Maddie, has to endure are so realistic it makes you cheer for her. The author does an excellent job of making you feel like you are going through this journey with this group. And me personally, in an apocalypse, I want Maddie Rank and Lugnut on my team!!!
T.L. Payne's 'Hunted' is a captivating read that expertly blends action, suspense, and character-driven storytelling. It's a gripping exploration of survival that will appeal to fans of thrillers and psychological dramas alike. Whether you're looking for an adrenaline-fueled adventure or a narrative rich in emotional depth, 'Hunted' delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a roller-coaster of a read that lingers long after the last page.
This book was okay. Parts of it I liked, but parts seem forced and unbelievable. Through two books it emphasizes how vigilant the characters are, yet in a matter of minutes, their vehicle is able to be surrounded by several escaped cons while in the middle of a field. Instances like this break the story for me.
A well written story that continues on in the series. The characters are quite dimensional and realistic. The antagonists are many while the protagonists are outnumbered and have to fight every step of the way to survive. Quite a few survival tips that are good to know or to recall from previous training. An excellent book!!!
This book is exciting but also takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. I did notice a couple words where not correct and one character is refered as a dental hygienist, then a dental receptionist and finally a dental assistant. One character takes a shower but a few pages later gets an apology fro the shower not being hooked up yet.
A fantastic read that grabs you from the first page to the last. Its a fast past read with epic scenes. The Author and Narrator do a fantastic job together bringing the story to fruition. This is a real page turner with twists and turns that keeps you enthralled with this read. I definitely recommend this Audio book. Shauna Joesten
Exciting storyline with a lot of twists and turns. Love the characters and how their personality’s are brought out. This book was at least as good as book 1, if not better. Looking forward to book 3.
Average SHTF series so far. Nothing real intense. Maddie’s escape at the end was clever. I’ll leave it at that to avoid spoiling it too much. Lots of typos and grammar errors in this book, especially compared to the first.
It was ok I guess , nothing to get excited about just wondering where else can they go with this story its obvious they are all going to be reunited and li e happily ever after, find love and all that
The story kept me engaged throughout. Well paced, mystery, intrigue, post apocalyptic action. Occasionally hitting some snags, but realistic in a figurative way, as no-one can plan everything.
The story line has kept me up reading late every night! I love the characters, Lugnut & Rank are my favorite after Msddie. Can't wait to read the next one in the series!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading this series so far. The characters are wonderfully interesting, the storyline fast paced and believable. Great reading for any age. Can’t wait to start the next book.
I believe this was better than Book I, although not ever having had anything to do with FEMA, or other disaster services, some of that was a little confusing. The main character is a teen but written for anyone.
According to Ms Payne, I'm thinking this little group of survivors had quite a trip to what little safety they had hoped to reach. Now I hope the next book is as good.
I’m so happy Maddie team didn’t lose anyone even with Rank and Lugnut running off to find Jason everyone still made it to the cabinet safely. Even though Maddie lost Emma she picked up Harmony and Buster.
