WE SO FEW Lieutenant Commander Samantha 'Spike' Hunt, commander of the Black Knights, and Captain James "Papa' Holtz, commander of Task Force Yankee, are charged with protecting Great Britain at all costs. Ten F-14s. Twelve pilots. Twelve RIOs. It is all the allies have to stand against the might of the German Luftwaffe. With the Germans further along in the development of jet aircraft, the allies are unable to mount an effective bombing effort with conventional piston-driven aircraft. The German war machine is set free. Can the Black Knights stop the Luftwaffe in the skies over Britain? The Black Knights fought the Japanese over the Philippines. They took the fight to Tokyo. They tried to defend Wake Island. Now, They're half-way around the world taking on another impossible task, the defense of Great Britain herself. Britain must stand. Without Britain the war is lost. But not everyone is thrilled to have female pilots. She and her cohorts are so damn effective in the air, Roosevelt and Churchill can't justify replacing them. Where would they find replacements? So, now she must lead her squadron in their greatest challenge, defending Great Britain from German jets. She must stop the Luftwaffe while defending her right to fly the best combat aircraft ever made, the F-14 Tomcat.
I've always been fascinated by the concept of time travel and this series of books approaches the subject seriously and intelligently. One has to wade through a lot of Navy jargon, but that keeps the story grounded (no pun intended) and lends it authenticity. The heroine/protagonist is a well developed character, if rather too good to be true, but then this is an action/adventure tale, so it's to be expected. The story is sprawling and engrossing and is a great story with a plausible, if impossible plot and good, well thought out characters. The historical characters who appear seem accurately portrayed. However, little things just annoyed me to no end. As to the writing, every back and forth in a conversation and each action in a scene don't need to be set down in excruciating detail. The thing that really had me wanting to fling my battered Kindle across the room was the lack of proof reading before the book was published. "Your" and "you're" were constantly misused and mixed up. One short sentence used both words in one short sentence, once correctly and once incorrectly. "It's" and "its" were also similarly mixed up. It was like reading ignorant posts on Facebook. Also "Marshall" Dillon should have been "Marshal". In the final scene in the book Air Marshal Dowding became "Dowdy" for a couple of paragraphs. These amateur mistakes are inexcusable. I do admit to being unable to put the books down while cursing the bone headed errors.
An MLM/SM/MM. Time Travel WW II SYFY Action Adventure (WSF) (TFTB - 3)
MLM/SM/MM. have penned a time travel novel about World War II a SYFY action adventure which is the follow up book of three. The Knights are tearing up the German jets but are having trouble getting the spare parts needed to keep the F-14's flying. As the war progresses the American losses are mounting and a few higher ups in the British Air War machine are hindering operations. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Absolutely awesome !!!!! Just got done reading the first 3 books. It's like reading Robert Heinlein and Tom Clancy rolled into one. The proof reading be a lot better, but overall, a fantastic story. I know I have to , but I want book4 now. The way the authors blend everything together, seems to get better and better with each story. These authors will be among my other favorite authors.
Can't wait to start next book in series. If you ever served on an aircraft carrier please read this series. It will not Disappoint,. And if you were or are any fan of alternative history. This is one of the best. No B.S. all fast movers, great characters Thanks to writers from this old Salt. Thanks for S.A.R inclusion. HC-1 U.S.S. KITTY HAWK 1969. U.S.S. ORISKANY 1970
Special Operations, required & possible due to time travelers.
Automic Power & Atomic Bombs are introduced in 1941 through time travel, advancing such knowledge & capability prior to The Manhatten Project & exposing it to Natzi Germany, but giving US forces superior capabilities to defend themselves. Leaders advance & new relationships develop, making the series more interesting beyond previous history.
Have enjoyed all 3 books so far - the writing/action and changes in society from one period to modern times and impact are all fascinating reading. Am looking forward to Book 4 and following "Spike" and associates in their shorthanded fight but look forward to reading about New aircraft produced by the allies impact.
Very Gripping Book With Different Take on Alt History
This third in the series builds on the previous structure and really develops the characters and advances the story. I really liked the breadth of the various stories being followed and especially enjoyed the social frictions between the mores of 1942 clashing with those of the 1990's. Looking forward to the next book.
The series is very satisfying, but you guys really need to edit. Planes drop ordnance not ordinance which is a municipal code or religious rite. The air combat scenes are very engaging and the depth of the characters really let's the reader get to know them.
Fantastic Series, love the characters, the detail. The author has done extensive research on the military and WWII, understands how the military works and the things that can happen, breakdowns, professional spite that defy whatever the emergency that is actually happening at the time.
Punching a General, knocking him down is a marvelous way to end a novel. If I ever write a book, I'll include that scene. I'm enjoying this series a lot, missing my bedtime, skipping things I should be doing, that sort of stuff.
Couldn't put it down. Great story, fast moving. Could make me love Airdales in brown shoes. Too many lists though. Obvious space fillers though worse in Book 1.
Excellent Excellent Excellent! I very much enjoyed this book. It had so many interesting side plots that made it even better. So far I have read three books and have had trouble putting them down. Expecting the same result from the next book.
Russia bails out and the Germans get new aircraft. Tough times ahead. This series continues to drive the new WW2 scenario with great verve as the Black Knight loses men and planes. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Great story the action is great the personal Stories are what is needed to make the action great the added stories of real people is what makes the history real
Tied a lot of personal stories from Tomcat books to these
I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I spead read some pages because it got real exciting. Thanks for another great read. Brought some social issues into limelight we all have had to Deal with. UT just like real life. 2 sets of rules. One for Officers one for enlisted. One for the rich one for the rest of us. Any inlisted servicemen or women do 1/2 the stuff the one Captain did, we'd have been in Leavenworth or or slit throat in back alley in Olongapo. Which would have been to nice for him. Thankfully the bullies and the bad officers few and far between, but they were there..
Though they have different focuses Maki's Hunter Killer and Fighting tomcats are one series. They are also the best alternate history series on the market. Well thought out, extraordinary detail and heroic missions. Best if you do not start here read the entire series and wait impatiently for more.
Another Great Book in the Hunter/Killer Series of the Fighting Tomcats. I found it hard to put down and cannot wait for Book # 4 of Hunter Killer and Book # 5 of Fighting Tomcats to come out.
