She wasn’t supposed to be the princess I wasn’t looking for.

When my father ‘died’ five years ago I took over the ‘family business’. But when I say business, I really mean secret society. Or cult. Or militia. Hell, let’s keep it simple and call it the mob.

It’s just not that mob.

It’s much darker, much dirtier, and much more dangerous than any old everyday mob.

And I was perfectly fine with my role in life for a long time. But now my brothers are involved and I need to get them out.

Enter Megan Machette.

When I found her helpless, nearly-naked, and chained to a wall on an island prison I had no intention of being her Prince Charming. But then I found out she had a dirty, dark, dangerous secret that could solve all my family problems.

I was just going to use her. Play her. Tell her everything she wanted to hear.

I never planned on baring my secrets to her in a midnight confession and I certainly never expected her to see past the dark filth inside my soul and find the man underneath.

But she did.

She wasn’t supposed to be the princess I wasn’t looking for.

But she is.

And now I will do anything—even use her evil secret to take down thousands of people—to save my brothers and get what I want.

Her.

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

OMFG and WOW!

This is going to be a difficult review to write because so much happened in this book and it was just one revelation after another throughout the entire book. I was wondering just what type of organization Johnny worked for after the revelations in Jesse and Joey’s books. It seemed really strange to me that Johnny was in this criminal organization called “The Way” that paid the Boston’s billions of dollars every month and he had no idea what it was.

This book was eye opening in so many ways. Not only because so much of it was told from Johnny’s point of view, but also because in the previous books, his brothers have both described him as insane. They had good reasons for that since he spent years in the penthouse of that creepy 75 floor office building/home of theirs without seeing either of them. Though Johnny isn’t really insane, he might be a sociopath and he definitely is having some sort of existential crisis because he is weary and just done with being used. He wants out, but he doesn’t want “The Way” to move on to his his brothers next.

He thinks that Charlotte Kane, the daughter of a contributor and the mother of Joey’s daughter Maisy might know some secrets about “The Way” that could help him. So he takes his yacht to the Caribbean in search of her. To an island he went to as a boy, near where she disappeared that he knows a “Way” prison was built. However, instead of finding Charlotte, he finds burned out buildings and a prison dungeon with one girl chained up and nearly dead.

Johnny rescues the girl, Megan Machette, who was also born into “The Way” and has plenty of secrets of her own. Megan is technically on a higher level than Johnny since she helps her father who is a scientist which is more important than a banker. Johnny and Megan end up working together to go to another island which Megan knows about that may be a prison and could possibly be holding Charlotte.

Johnny and Megan start sharing stories of their lives and connecting with each other in ways they have never connected with anyone before. The romance between them is strange and steamy and sweet amidst the craziest of circumstances. They are both hiding things, lying to each other and have ulterior motives, but both of them are tired of being used and want to do the right things for the world and for the people they love.

J.A. Huss has a complex and devious mind and she thinks and plans so many steps ahead that it is hard to even wrap my head around. I read her book Creeping Beautiful about two months back and it was about this very sinister organization of wealthy powerful and connected families that do anything to get what they want. The group is called “The Company” and the book was about this female assassin named Indie who was trained at a young age and bought at age ten by a cleanup team. Indie showed up in Johnny’s book at age fourteen and blew me away with some revelations about “The Way” and “The Company”. Before Johnny left her on a small boat in the middle of the ocean. So cool.

WTF happened to Megan? [insert hysterical laughter] well I am on a wild goose chase with this one. I am super happy about Nick Tate. He’s the only man Michelle has aloud me to claim, plus he shares my name. I am just going to settle down and get my head around the new new.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It'll Blow Your Mind

So ok Johnny, bad boy Johnny, loves up in the Bossy Bldg broody freaky Johnny...OMG he is SO HOT!!!
What did I just read???OMG Thank you Julie for the drops and letting us know how some past characters are! I so love that about this Author. She can twist a tale that you'd kind of think you know whats happening but then drop a big ole bomb and blow the entire series in a different Way!!! So Much Different!

So This is going be short and sweet because I', late a couple days getting this in and believe me you wanna go into this one BLIND!!! I will tell you I LOVED Jesse and I Liked Joey and I LOVED Johnny and Megan (by the way is my daughters name) lololol

The Way this goes down is basically from Joeys book when Johnny states he will help his brothers live a normal life and get them out of this crazy world they have been born into. And that is exactly how it starts but I didn't expect him to drive up to an island with a guess of finding Maisy's mom Joeys little girls baby momma because Charlotte tried to get some promises out of Johnny at age like 10 or 11, yeah she was setting him up for marriage so why does he go looking for her, well because he thinks she has big secrets but if course the first place is burnt to the ground when he arrives, he now knows they knew he was coming and he must move quickly before he must stay here. He goes through the bldg. and in the basement, tide to a wall, well not tied anchored is a better word, a woman dirty and left to die, at first she has the resemblance of Charlette but once he see's her he knows it is not, she begs for him to help her and he says I cant you know they made a mistake leaving you and they will come back and he leaves and this girl is gonna die, no water in days at the very least maybe none for couple of weeks, time for her is unknown, she is giving up home but knowing she would get to that sink and get a drink...well to ALL of our surprise Johnny does come back and he shoots off the shackles and carries her out and she awakes disoriented, she knows he let her drink a but she is still so thirsty but not as much and then she realizes she is clean he stripped her clothes she had used the bathroom on and was in an empty burned out bldg. stinking and soiled lucky to be alive and he washed her. she begs to go back to her bldg. in the Bahamas a place her and her dad have worked on science projects, its the only place she has ever lived she knows no other life.

But Johnny has much more plans for her, he is on calculating bad boy as are most of Huss Alpha Males BUT MY GOSH!!!! I didn't expect this story in no way shape of form. I was a bit late getting it read and reviewed as promised but OMG, once I dove in I couldn't stop, I had to know what was going on, heck I could have done with zero romance and just get me to people from the other places and things and I am in like Sin lol But I am joking Johnny and Megan well have zero reason to team up they have their own agendas and at first are not telling all the truths, well believe it or not Johnny is but Megan is holding WAY back and when you figure out what its LIKE OMG....This is THEM, This is IT!!!

Thank you Julie for always giving us the little breadcrumbs if you didn't know Logan your missing a great book and if you don't know the other referenced well you better get to catching up...Nick, tatted up bad boy Nick Tate, who is Indie and the ole guy??? And the Dumus Family yeah whats up with all that??? I am so intrigued I barely am able to write the review without flipping through multiple books, YES Multiple!!

And most of all the Akkadian language! What the heck???

OMG is this real, is this what I just read? Yes, yes it is because I already went back and re-read it. I am about to read the EOBS and I cant wait anymore its a must OMG this is one of the Hus you done went and Mindf*cked me real good, so please give me more, I truly need way more of this in my LIFE!!!!

Do yourself a favor an get on the Huss Train because Julie will BLOW YOUR MIND, Every Time!
BOOM!!! Give me More!!!

Oh my lawd Julie is a freaking Queen!!! She writes amazing thought-provoking, intense and suspenseful stories that pull you in from the very first page until the EOBS. The Bossy Brothers books are a series that definitely need to be read! Johnny's story finally, finally uncovered some questions we've all been wanting and needing from the very first book and to put it bluntly..... FUCKING MIND-BLOWN is what you'll be by the end!!! The twists and turns that came were freaking gripping, intriguing, edge-of-your-seat EPIC! This is one series you MUST READ and one that will have you begging for MORE!

Wow. This was the most F'd up plot I've ever read in a book. I can't really say anything about this without giving stuff away because it's an ongoing plot. Technically you can probably read these in any order but I would read them in order. Jesse, Joey, then this one, Johnny.

The Plot Thicken(ed)

I cannot imagine how Huss has time to research, imagine, and finally to churn out such a wide variety of books—she is a cottage industry!

True to form, Huss offers a puzzle to solve alongside complex characters I cared about. I love her subplot mystery that surrounds “The Way.” I believe Huss was a scientist in her undergraduate life, and it really pays off in this book. Great marine life scenes.

The romance was rather sweet. I couldn’t imagine how we were going to get to the end —happy to say I was surprised and satisfied.

Highly recommend.

I didn't think it was possible but Johnny turned out to be my favorite Bossy brother!

************

In Johnny, everything became clear. Er...sort of. Well, I understand Johnny better anyway. It was quite a crazy ride. And although I didn't think it was possible, Johnny became my favorite Bossy brother. ;)

I don't know what I thought was going to happen when Johnny set off on this mission but it wasn't rescuing a girl left in a dungeon to die. So I was immediately on edge. But I did appreciate how Johnny handled it.

I wasn't sure I trusted Megan but I wanted to. Then I came to trust her but worried it was misplaced. She seemed just as lost and at the mercy of the Way as Johnny. In fact, I thought it was interesting that although neither of them knew all the answers, they were relatively certain about their roles and significance. Maybe that's why they were so drawn to one another.

I was thrilled when Logan made an appearance. Huss did a great job at incorporating him in a way that made it special for those who've read In to Her but didn't leave anyone else lost. Logan's friendship with Johnny gave me a different perspective on Johnny...a little more insight.

The scene on island #2 was...*gulp*...just...WOW. Shocking? Not only did we get some answers about Megan and the Way but we also got to see a certain side of Johnny. Scary? Telling? I'm not sure of the right word for any of it. Mostly because it could be true - I mean, it is possible. And Johnny? Yeah, I figured he had that in him but still.

I loved Johnny's waxing poetic about life and death and love. He was at his most real...his most vulnerable. And I know he had ulterior motives - that being earning Megan's trust - but it really served to explain the man. I felt like I understood him better. And I guess I'm a sucker for a broken, possibly sociopathic and/or deranged hero that absolutely has redeeming qualities. ;)

That whole scene back on island #1 - I didn't see that coming. And although I liked what went down and how it did, it left me with more questions, I think.

Okay, last but not least, Nick. Man. I was shocked to say the least. And I knew Huss was tying this series to The Company. But she upped the ante with his cameo. I'll be on the edge of my seat as the release dates approach for the next books. Oh - I lied about "last" because I also wanted to mention India. She was something else, no? Anyway, I'm more than excited to see how Huss weaves this all together.

So I gave it three stars. First I gave it a star because it's the bossy brothers. Then I gave it another star because I do like the couple. The third star was because well it can be coming back because I wanted to finish the damn book.

The book would have been perfect if there was a little bit more fluidity to it and less details. We get lost in the details. There's so much details that you start to get confused on to where certain details fit into what.

By chapter 7 I wanted to hang it up and say forget it I'm not going to read this. I wish there was more clarity into what kind of book it is. It seemed like he had a history or experience as being a Navy seal of some sorts, but they don't talk about that. They don't talk about where he gets his experience killing I should say, but it just goes on and on and on. It makes him seem like a cleaner. And if you've read enough mob books you know where the cleaner is.

And the fluidity of Megan's story is kind of distorted. That's the best word I can come up with distorted. And nothing flows together. I know I keep on hanging up on this flowing together thing but that's a good story. A story that flows into each other, flows into each chapter, flows into each character. There is none of that here. If that's what you're looking for do not read this book.

If you want matter of fact and over detailed listings then sure this book's pretty good at that. And I'm not trying to be a bitch. For lack of a better word. I just didn't like the book.

I guess that last star was brought up because there are a few moments throughout the book that I actually enjoyed. And if they had just made it a little bit more fluid, than the whole book would have been awesome. There is a scene with dolphins, and that was amazing. There is a scene at the beach when they're alone together and that was amazing. There are different parts of the book that were amazing however they just didn't make sense.

They really need it to make the scenes blend better. Because honestly I'm still confused. I get that the woman was his mother. I get that the father was sitting there as well. I get that they went and spent time with the Dumas family however that one right there was confusing too.

When Megan's talking she says that they're leaving the next day but when Johnny is talking they say that they've been there for 3 days. Now when Megan said that they were leaving the next day, she was talking that they landed in the Keys and stayed for 24 hours. But with Johnny it's a different story. Does that make sense to you guys? That's what I mean by not being fluid. The details are there but they're all so mixed up and there's so many of them. They could have just easily with the details cut them down to half size. It's like they were trying to make a page quota or something.

But like I said I enjoyed parts of the story, and I enjoyed the couple, and I enjoyed the fact that they got out at the end. But honestly the rest of it was just noise.

Would I recommend this book to anyone else? I suppose so. Because if you're like me and have OCD and you start a series you want to finish the series, then yes read this book. But if you can survive without reading Johnny story I say skip it. But again I can what's the word that I'm looking for, appreciate how hard an author works on their book. So therefore I say read it. And then share with me what you thought of the book. Keep in mind those details. Because I'm telling you there are so many details. I still am unclear about what this book is about if it's about espionage, society, I mean actually I suppose it is a secret society but still. I'm just still confused. And hopefully we don't have to deal with it during the wedding. Well weddings. Enjoy the review folks I know it's not my best but I tried to explain why I didn't like the book. And that's what a review is about right?

I will say this though, I wish I knew what book the other people were reading. I'm thinking that maybe I'm missing something here? Who knows.

Not My Favorite

3.75 Stars.

This was my least favorite of the series so far.
First I had a problem with Meagan the female mc.
Second was the pace of the story. It was definitely slow paced and rambling in a lot of areas.
Third is it was really long but didn't really get us all that far where The Way is concerned.
I also didn't like how the area concerning Logan's friends and what The Way did way left.
I ended up okay with Meagan.
There are a TON of twist.
The Steamy scenes are decent. Not as good as the first two but decent.
I ended up rounding up to a 4 from 3.75 Stars.

OMG, his poetic thoughts have me swooning!! This guy is badass yet philosophical.

"I don’t kill people for a living. Let’s be clear. I have killed people to stay among the living. But I don’t get paid for it, for fuck’s sake. I am a bank teller for a secret organization, that’s it."

I was hating on Megan for 1/2 of this book. So glad Johnny has a good bullshit radar.

“𝑺𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒐 𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒂 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝑰 𝒂𝒎.”

I do like how Johnny and Megan slowly fall in love and the ending was insane!! The entire "beach scene". Nick Tate! How JA Huss pulls in and ties everything together is amazing!

What a crazy ride! I’m glad there are more books in this series!!

Review Scheduled to go live on blog on November 25th @ Naomi’s Reading Palace

3.5 Stars

I was super excited jumping into Johnny, as I wanted to get to know the oldest Boston Brother. I needed to see what secrets he was hiding and how he was going to help his family. I was keen to see him build a bond with someone, especially as he was so closed off and had a fair few quirks of his own.

Johnny and Megan certainly had a rough start but I liked watching him be so kind and gentle. He still had plans and was determined to get what he needed. It was interesting getting into Johnny's head and seeing how he ticked, but to see him as the bad guy he portrayed himself as was interesting too.

Megan may have been rescued, but she was strong and had her own secrets too. I liked that they were both cautious, and slowly accepted one another on this crazy ride. There were many sweet moments, but the secrets they kept never allowed them to fully trust each other.

Honestly, this has been my least favourite book of the series so far. I enjoyed the action, the plotting and planning, but some of the storyline threw me. So much information and mind twists that I found it hard to follow. I did like that we had a little crossover from a previous series though. Although it appears that this story was kind of wrapped up, I will continue with this series to see where things go from there.

See, this is why I wait for a series to be complete before I start reading it (even if that means waiting several years). The desperate need to know what will happen next is much more high stakes in a JA Huss series/story, than let's say a cliff-hanger in a romance.

As is the formula for the vast majority of stories by this author, they start off innocently enough and then by the end of it you're doing all sorts of mental gymnastics to tie it all together. The good kind of mental gymnastics that make sense though, it's really more like stretching the horizon/pushing boundaries, but somehow, freaking somehow she really does tie it ALL together. Like that little thing you thought was insignificant? HA! Joke's on you, because nothing is insignificant in her stories.

As for the characters, I really liked Johnny - who doesn't love a good redemption story? But this/he's so much more than that. Overall, as a character, he was fucking great. Loved Megan too! My favourite h of the series so far, for sure.

The stories only get better with progressing book in the series, and I genuinely can't wait to get to the end. I don't know if my heart can take a reread, but I'm gonna take a break until this series and Indie's story is complete.

Johnny is the third book in the Bossy Brothers series. Up until now I think you could read both previous books as standalones. But this book has too much of the past and trying to wrap up a little of the Way too much to go in without any information. SO, if you haven't read Joey or Jesse, stop what you are doing and check those out and return here. There are too many answers to questions that were left in those books and I wouldn't want you to be confused.

Johnny has been a big question mark so far in the books. I've been watching him and I hoped his book was going to blow my mind. He was too much of a wild card and honestly, quite a bit of an ass. I really didn't know if I liked him or not. He seemed like the brother you never wanted but ended up having anyway. But I knew there had to be more to him. And sure enough, this overprotective big brother that likes to file many things away in all the folders in his head is different than I anticipated. His story didn't blow me away, but it gave a lot more answers and made me kind of like him more than I had in the past books.

Enter Megan Machette. Can I say what a cool last name she has? I already liked her based on that alone. lol. We think she may be a hindrance to whatever Johnny has going by the first scene, but these two are built into the frame of the Way too strongly. So I knew whatever went down was going to all be connected and more outrageous than even I could imagine. I mean, it's JA Huss, after all. She likes to confuse us and build a lot into her stories.

So, we have a "banker" (Johnny) and a "scientist" (Megan) that have been a part of the Way since basically birth. They are putting together answers out in the Bahamas on the islands. But they are both working towards something. Can they work and come together to achieve similar endings, or will their pasts and families pull them away from it all??

This book was different than I anticipated, but the answers I got were satisfying. I liked that a lot of questions we'd had in the past books were coming together. The twists were there, but not too crazy. Johnny seemed a little different than he had in past books. But that was a front for the Way, I'm assuming. This series is obviously character driven as I didn't feel the setting was too important. It's all about the characters and where they are going mentally and emotionally. It's meant to make you question what they are doing and I think Ms Huss achieved that. I just wished her 'voice' for her characters would change up a little bit. It's becoming a wee bit repetitive.

But Johnny isn't all about the Way. JA Huss has given us more Easter eggs than you can even imagine. If you've been reading her for awhile like I have, you're going to have so many fun things to pick up on, especially toward the end. And those eggs are definitely going to crack open and become something that we didn't even know was developing. I'm super excited for those! This may be the 'final' Boston brother, but Bossy Brothers is continuing with some other crazy brothers. And we may even have a crossover from the past. This is going to be fun and full of twists and turns for us fans. Read that EOBS and get excited with me!! It's like we are only beginning.

The third book in J.A. Huss’ Bossy Brothers series is all about Johnny, the oldest of the three Boston brothers. His story is just as wild and as twisted as I expected!

Previously, we’ve met Johnny through the eyes of his brothers Jesse and Joey. He came off as slightly unhinged and very scary. However, Johnny’s public persona is just a small part of him. In addition to being a badass enforcer/banker for the crazy organization his family is wrapped up in, he is also an expert on conspiracy theory. His stint in the chess club has made him a master planner; there's nothing like anticipating your opponents moves when planning to take down a crazy world-domination organization. Oh, and he is quite the dreamer and romantic. In some ways, he reminds me of one of the author’s beloved characters, Spencer Shrike.

Megan Machette becomes Johnny’s problem when he finds her imprisoned on a Caribbean island. She seems like a damsel in distress, but from the start, Johnny is onto her. He knows she is lying and keeping secrets.

While the story is told from their dual points of view, Megan remains enigmatic. Their cat and mouse game creates much speculation and tension throughout the book. Megan’s secrets aren’t shared with the reader until the story reaches its climax. Let me just say that as the plot reaches its culmination, the action gets intense, Johnny’s tactics get stronger, and the plot gets super twisty. I had an inkling about one of the reveals, but everything else that author J.A. Huss incorporated was wildly surprising! I cannot wait to see how the rest of the story plays out. Characters and affiliations pulled in from her prior series make this book, and the upcoming books in the series, a hyperbolical conspiracy thriller that only J.A. Huss could write. It is almost as wickedly delicious as her book, The Company.

Since there are references to key details from the prior Bossy Brothers books, I wouldn’t recommend trying to read this book as a standalone story.

What a brilliant 3rd book in the Bossy brothers series and definitely my favourite even though all three books have been 5 stars. Johnny’s book was full of so much mystery and suspense but also quite the love story too! On top of that I loved the links to other characters which definitely provided the element of surprise.

I can hand on heart see this series being on tv and I cannot wait to see where this author takes the books next!

This author and her diabolical mind...

It doesn't seem to matter what this author writes it always comes full circle and leaves me gobsmacked. Her mind frightens me but also leaves me spellbound. Somehow stories from years ago that had foundations and secrets so intricately bound reappear as if they were always part of the story. That is mind boggling. Even more so, considering that when those books are completed there is never a secret unanswered. So, I posit, how does she manage to do it? Hence, my reference to her mind being diabolical.

I liked the first stories, but this one? Yeah, this one left my mind retracing everything that I have read from this author. This one created a domino effect as I slowly watched everything fall in to place. Even though I know she will still shock me and leave me with my mouth agape ( diabolical mind here that could seriously take over the world) it somehow is taking on new meaning. It's almost like watching the television show, Lost, for the third time and learning something new each time I watch it (and I do discover something I missed EVERY time I rewatch that series that makes me question how I missed it the first time). I digress...

Johnny, surprised me. He was dangerous in certain ways. He had to be. However, he truly was a romantic, almost gentleman in others. Megan, while appearing innocent and sheltered, was just as dangerous. They shouldn't have worked. BUT they did.

I look forward to where this series goes next. I'm sure it will again leave me gobsmacked. Well done to this author for taking me on this journey.

My mind is completely blown- like, what did I read?!!

Ah Julie Julie Julie... what a way to build and create a world that is beyond comprehension yet still vivid and real. Wow. Just wow. You are a mastermind that truly weaves plots and makes it seem like it was easy.

Where do I begin?!? I guess from the beginning lol. We have seen how dark and mysterious Johnny is. We learned about him in Jesse’s book and interacted with him even more in Joey’s book. It was all a build-up that led to this book. It’s crazy because things happen for a reason. It was fortuitous (not sure if I should be using that word but I’ll just go with it) that Joey had a baby with Charlotte and then years later met Brooke. It was fortuitous (okay maybe planned lol) that Johnny found Megan starved and chained in an abandoned island. All of these pieces are intricate and important in their own ways, much like pieces in chess. The twists and turns that this book takes is completely unpredictable. Even finding out what The Way was about was mind blowing. There was so much that happened... so many things that were put into motion... so many futures that are being manipulated... it’s just simply mind blowing!

Bravo J.A. Huss... thank you for engaging my brain and making me think hard about the possibilities that journeys will be taking only to completely surprised me with a secrete hidden panel that I didn’t think about and cause me to get book whiplash! I loved it!

This book goes 500 MPH for the first half of the book... which is one hell of a ride!!! The last half left me torn. Part of it is equally as fast paced and full of twists and turns and is enthralling... but other parts are so mind-numbingly boring and drawn out, verging on redundant... and worse: annoying.

I’m listening via audible, but I have an hour and 5 minutes left, I’m pretty sure I FFWed thru the last 30 mins on and off....

If I wasn’t so invested in “what the eff happens?!” With this book, I’d be very much tempted to skip the next 30 or so mins to find out. I’m gonna give it another 5 minutes before this decision.

Upcoming metaphor: There’s a point where an author brings you into the story with back story, internal dialogue, emotional cues to reel you in like a fish... but it’s another thing when all they’re doing is feeding you goldfish flakes to tempt you for too long ( as a Marlin ) where you lose interest and either go away to find something more appealing or thrash in protest and fuck shit up.

I’m not sure where I stand in the latter of the two metaphorical options.

Omg I couldn’t wait for Johnny’s story and JA has completely knocked it out of the park. Johnny and Megan both have secrets and it’s only inevitable until their secrets are revealed. It never a true JA book unless their is a crazy twist and what a crazy twist it was. This book was everything I wanted and more. I absolutely love the back and forth between Johnny and Megan and together they are a couple you won’t forget. Another truly an amazing read that if you haven’t read the Bossy Brothers you are definitely missing out.

I felt the book dragged on with the main characters spending too much time having repetitive conversations (a whine) in their heads. Neither character was interesting or likeable. Skipped alot and kept thinking it was alot of "blah blah blah " . Won't be reading the next on.

This book has it all! Suspense, a great storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages to see how the story unfolds, characters from previous JA Huss books, angst, mystery, secrets, danger, lies, twists and turns, and so much more.

*** Johnny is book number three in the Bossy Brothers series and should be read after Joey and Jesse ***

Johnny Boston has had enough of his life living under the rule of the Way. He is determined to get the answers he needs to get rid of the entire corrupt organization, and  he knows of only one woman who might have the key to their downfall...

And then he finds Megan Machette. Chained to a wall and left to die... she seems like a victim, she seems so helpless and innocent... but Megan is holding more secrets than Johnny could ever fathom... and she might just be the break he has been looking for...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Johnny was the tumultuous and twisted third book in the Bossy Brothers series, where we are finally treated to more from the most mysterious Bossy brother yet. Johnny and Megan's love story may be over before it even begins, because going head to head with an organization like the Way is only ever going to end badly... unless they can find a way to outsmart the people who have been pulling their strings since birth...
Megan and her father are both Way scientists and are privy to the innermost secrets as to the specifics of what the Way has them working on and researching. Growing up in this life, she has never had any other options but working for the Way and serving her purpose. But Megan has found herself in some deep trouble... which results in her being found helpless and without options by the one and only Johnny Boston.
Johnny is a deep thinker, who has been using his power and position within the organization to do everything he can to keep his remaining family from being pulled into his own personal hell. Johnny has always been viewed as the dark and disturbed brother, but beneath all of his executive decision making and psychotic tendencies, Johnny is harboring a secret sweet side that he can't resist showing to his new enigmatic scientist sidekick...
This was an awesome read, and it showcased the greater story of the Way and it's stronghold on the people who are unlucky enough to be born into it. With both Johnny and Megan expanding on the depraved power that the Way exudes, the mission to take them down becomes more important than ever... and suddenly they have a whole lot more to lose if the don't succeed...
Johnny and Megan's connection is steamy and decidedly complicated at the same time. Falling into sex as a means to feel good in the hours before they are risking their lives to fighting the Way, something happens when they let themselves pretend what life would be like if they had a simpler existence. They were both fascinating in their own way, and when they discover just how great of a team they could be, nothing is going to stop them from achieving their goal... even if their goals aren't even close to the same as each other...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Johnny Boston, the oldest of the three Boston brothers and the one I have been the most intrigued by in this series. We didn't get a whole lot of him in book 1, besides Jesse telling us that Johnny is the oldest, he's kind of "out there" and he doesn't really have any type of relationship with him. Then in book 2, Joey told us that he used to be really close to Johnny, but that all changed one day, and after their father died he became pretty reclusive and pushed both brothers away. But we did get a pretty good glimpse into Johnny's life towards the end of that book, enough to make my head start going crazy with ideas on what exactly was going on in "the Way" and what Johnny was going to do to keep his brothers out of their clutches.
So in typical Julie fashion, she totally blew me away with Johnny and Megan's story. I thought there were a whole bunch of secrets that I needed answers to before I started reading, but then as those secrets were slowly unveiled, a whole slew of new ones I didn't even think of come popping up!! Johnny's got secrets, Megan's got secrets! Hell, there's secrets on top of secrets! And even though these two don't trust each other at all because they both know the other isn't telling them the whole truth, they can't help the draw there is between them.
One of my favorite things about Johnny's book is the cameos and the crossover to previous beloved Huss storylines. People I never thought I'd get the chance to see again popped up and my heart did a whole bunch of pitter pattering!! And some new characters are introduced that are going to also intricately tie in with these past characters in a way I would have never imagined. It's amazing the complex way Julie's mind works and her ability to string all these characters and worlds together to bring readers one hell of an epic journey!
So back to Johnny and Megan. Two characters who both hold alot of secrets and whose appearances are deceiving. Megan, the innocent looking lab tech who holds a very critical key to the future of the Way. And Johnny, whose reputation precedes him but who has a whole other side to him that no one's ever seen before, Megan being the first. Can these two forge a future together when nothing is ever certain in the world they live in?
Julie throws every kind of twist and turn into this story. I held my breath for half this book, and the revelations and secrets revealed blew my mind a time or two. I know that for the most part, the Boston brothers stories are settled, but there is still so much to come in this world that I'm dying to see what happens next!! And like I said, there is some new crossover stuff happening that made me squeal with delight and ramp up my excitement about the upcoming books!
Once again, Julie proves that she is a master storyteller, and I wish I could gift everyone a copy of at least one of her books so people could see for themselves why I love her writing so much.
We finally get Johnny's book so that we can find out more about this unusual individual that everyone thought was "crazy" and didn't care about his family but in reality he was just stuck with responsibilities that he never wanted and he has been trying to protect his brothers and cousin by pushing them away and causing them trouble so that they would never have to get involved in what Johnny had inherited. At the end of Joey's book, we finally get a better understanding of what has been going on and realize that Johnny never wanted what he had been doing and can't even figure out who he is doing all the stuff for.
At the start of this book, Johnny is on a mission to find Joey's ex-girlfriend and mother of Joey's daughter. Johnny hopes that she will be able to provide some information into how to stop what has been happening. However, when Johnny gets to this small island, all he finds is Megan Machette, who is a prisoner that Johnny at first thinks she is better off dead. However, we start to see the real Johnny when he saves her and takes her back to his boat and nurses her back to health. Johnny and Megan do not trust each other even though Johnny doesn't know much about Megan, Megan has him at a disadvantage since she has an idea of who Johnny is and what he is to "The Way".
As Johnny and Megan try to work together to get what each wanted, they are also fighting a sexual attraction that they finally gave into with the caveat that it's a fling only. We are taken on a wild ride as Johnny starts to unravel some of the secrets but then more comes up. And Megan seems to have secrets of her own but will it hurt Johnny. We also get to see the "human" side of Johnny and realize that he is not such a bad guy but just had to work with what he was dealt in order to protect his family.
Towards the end, Johnny gets answers to some of the secrets, Megan realizes that what she thought was happening was actually worse since it impacts children, and Megan and Johnny starts to trust each other. The ending was not what I expected but since the author is Ms. Huss, I am not at all surprise. We got some answers but we also have more questions. Luckily I hope we get to read more about the Boston brothers when Jesse and Emma gets married and we get to read more about Emma's family! So many twists and turns that it keeps you guessing even when we got the answers to most of the initial questions! Can't wait to see what's next!
Talk about being on the edge of my seat! Johnny (Bossy Brothers, #3) did not disappoint! I've been waiting for his story since the eldest Boston brother has only been on the periphery of this series as Jesse and Joey's tales were told. The air of mystery to his business dealings and the whys of his seemingly solo existence kept his brothers in the dark and as they started to unfold the meaning of their heritage, I just knew Johnny's book would be explosive. And as the secrets began to come to light, my jaw dropped over and over again with each turn of the page.
Wow. The imagination of JA Huss continues to impress me as she masterfully weaves a tale that is both complicated and almost too fantastic to even comprehend. But her gift of storytelling, once again unmatched, guided me through all the twists and turns as Johnny wants to finally end his dealings with the powerful organization known as The Way and free himself and his brothers from their parents's deeds. What Johnny finds on his mission to rid himself of his burdens is the very feisty Megan and together they embark on an adventure that could rival any action movie out there. With help from the mysterious Logan, quick decisions seem to be the key to survival and the chance to live free for once in Johnny's life.
The unexpected pleasure he enjoys with Megan both physically and emotionally showed the eldest Boston in a surprising light and I loved that he was able to stop being the one in charge for a while and just enjoy life for once. Their wicked banter and midnight confessions were wonderful to witness and added the right touch when things could go awry at a moment's notice. And they did. Often.
Huss is wildly unappreciated in her gift to tell a story that is both rich with excitement and intrigue and at the same time, full of a deep emotion and feeling. This series has kept my mind reeling while my heart continues to be full as love continues to 'save' these Boston brothers from an otherwise stagnant fate.
Such a great premise. A great book. A great series. I am thrilled we will be getting more from secondary characters and the mayhem that is undoubtedly going to ensue.
Johnny was everything and more and shows that love can certainly make life that much better when you least expect it and I happily give this book a solid 5 stars!
The anticipation of getting Johnny’s book (the third Bossy Brother) was killing me, so when I finally got him in my hands I couldn’t wait to devour his story and fall in love with this mysterious brother. And I fell hard! JA Huss has done a phenomenal job telling Johnny’s story beyond my expectations (but who am I kidding?! Its JA Huss! She excels in every story she writes) and I absolutely loved it.
After getting little clues as to who Johnny might be in the previous two books, getting to finally know him blew my mind. I loved the mysteriousness, twists, turns and surprises within the book, I just couldn’t put it down, there were so many things that happened with every character.
I loved Johnny and Megan right from the beginning. I loved their interactions, the banter they had and the stubbornness the both of them had within them. I loved the darkness Johnny had inside him, and when he let that out… damn he was hot! Not to mention his softer side when he decided to show it, that man is all kinds of sexy and hot. I really enjoyed him when he was with Megan and how they both were together.
My heart broke for Johnny when he told his story to Megan. It was beautifully written and I just couldn’t help myself by being right there along with them.
Those huge reveals towards the end… Mind. Blown. I absolutely loved reading about that connection and the other people involved including what they were doing.
Also towards the end things did get a little confusing when so many secrets and revelations came to light that it was a bit hard to process it all. Now, even when writing this, I’m still trying to get my head around it and everything that happened but I feel like there was something missing which I hope, maybe, comes to light in the Dumas brothers books (especially what was found out with those brothers).
An amazing book to read and I can’t wait to find out more in the following books.
Now to find out more in the EOBS!
Holy mother of all that is the...Way...Company....I am not even sure at this point which way is up. There were some amazing characters from the past, that still after all these years, still hold a very special place for me. Side note: You do not need to read previous books by this author to understand what is happening in this book. This author is awesome like that and gives us everything that we need.
This book is the third book in the Bossy Brothers series and man did Johnny throw me for about a million loops. There were not many parts of this book that were straight forward and honestly had me second guessing everything all the way until the end. But these are my favorite types of books and the reason that I keep running back to this author. She is sure to give us danger, mystery, hidden agendas, secrets upon secrets and some smoking hot bedroom...or anywhere scenes. Johnny is a guy that thinks he has it all figured out, he is charming and oh so dangerous but seriously HOT.
Megan is another strong female that has her own collection of secrets. She is no stranger to the danger that surrounds her and if anyone in the world can be what Johnny needs, its her. She certainly doesn't allow him to run over her and I loved how in the end she was willing to risk it all.
This entire Bossy series has been one that I have adored and it brings me back to the world of secret societies that I have come to love from this author. I can not recommend this book enough and I feel like you should grab it up and get started.
Holy. Friggin. Crap.
This woman knows how to write a damn story so now I’m sat here crying at work like an idiot.
Who knew Johnny would be my favorite? JUST KIDDING. I always knew this asshole was going to be my favorite. The most tortured? The biggest secrets? Yes, those are some of my red flags of choice, thank you!
This is an action filled book. Set ups and secrets and holy crap I can't believe what The Way is trying to do...but I can really because as mentioned several times in this series so far the parallels cannot be ignored. "People don't want to know what's really happening." That is a fact. I think this is adds an extra level to these stories, they're believable.
So at the end of Joey's book Johnny is on board to find a way out and he has decided that means finding the missing mother of his niece. He ends up on an island where he rescues a chained and starving left behind woman. He doesn't really want to rescue her but deep down we know he is a good person and so he does. They then spend the next days using and lying to each other but in the end the withheld information doesn't harm anything and all secrets out. I really don't know what else I can say without spoiling it so just read it for yourself you won't be sorry.
THAT ENDING!
