There’s a price on Everley Donovan’s head. Fleeing from the queen’s false accusation of murder and sorcery, the girl with the clock heart knows there’s only one way to prove her innocence. Everley must catch Killian Markham, the fugitive prince guilty of the crimes for which she’s been condemned. To do that, Everley must follow him into the towering realm of the Silver-Clouded Plain. It’s where flesh-eating Behemoths thrive, long-lost gods hide, and an artifact of destructive force awaits the death grip of the immortal prince.

Haunted by visions of burning Everwoods and bloody battlefields, Everley’s fears are rising. Because the elusive relic threatens more than the very power that drives her clock heart. In Killian’s hands, it can lead to the dismantling of the seven worlds. With everything—and everyone—Everley loves at stake, she must depend on Killian’s one weakness to outwit him: in his mad ambitions, Killian has underestimated her once again. For Everley is the Time Bearer. This is her destiny. The time of reckoning is at hand.

Wow! After rereading the first two books in this series, I remembered why I loved this series so much. And the final book...oh my! I feel breathless after finishing it up! What a beautiful ending that I'm a bit sad it's over. I want more of the worlds of giants, elves, pixes and such! This was AMAZING!

*Thoughts*

Emily R. King's Everafter Song is the third and final installment in the authors The Evermore Chronicles. It has been a month since the end of Into the Hourglass. Protagonist Everley Donovan is a wanted woman. She has been charged by Queen Aislinn of being a sorceress with a clock heart. She's also been accused of murdering her own Uncle Holden. Everley's cat and mouse game with Prince Killian Markham has been set back by Killian's efforts to stay at least two steps ahead of her at every turn.

I have absolutely adored this trilogy and now with this final instalment Everley has to make the ultimate sacrifice. She’s such a brave character and it’s been impossible not to like her as she constantly gets outmanoeuvred by the tricky Killian. Killian is without doubt a truly vile character who never hesitates in his plan to cheat time and enslave humans. His numerous crimes are heinous and include murder and even the death of a world. This time Everley has to chase him to the land where giants live but as giants find humans to be a tasty snack she really needs to catch up to him fast !
As much as this trilogy is about Everley it’s also a sweet ensemble piece with supporting characters that add so much to the background. The world building has been excellent and whilst it’s always felt perhaps historical there is actually technology in the realm of the giants which was a huge surprise. The author managed to include all the life forms from previous stories in this the final episode which made it feel that questions were answered.
Everley is the original Duracell bunny as she doesn’t know how to stop and she’s well matched by Killian who is one very confident and tricky elf. I did feel the ending was appropriate but perhaps I personally would have liked just a touch more because I’m left wondering what happened to several characters whom I’d grown quite fond of.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Everafter Song

This is the third and last book in the Evermore Chronicles Series. I gave 5-❤️ to each book in the series because they are equally great. This series is filled with action, suspense, courage, surprises, and, of course, love. The last book concluded the series in a spectacular way.

In the last book, Everley is in hiding because of the queen’s false accusations. She is still mourning the loss of her family and is determined to find Killian Markham and make his pay for his sins. With the help of her friends, she will travel the worlds to find him before it is too late. Father Time has shown her the future and she can see that Killian has figured out a way to bring destruction to her world. He also showed her what she must sacrifice to stop Killian. Will she find a way to stop him before it is too late? Will she be willing to make that sacrifice?

This is an awesome read. I recommend this series wholeheartedly. It would be a great Christmas gift for any YA fantasy lovers.

🙋🏼‍♀️ Thank you Skyscape, Amazon Publishing, and Thomas Allen & Son for sending me a final copy of this incredible novel. Everafter Song by Emily R. King will be available at your favourite bookstore on December 10th.

4.5 stars

This was so hard for me to rate. After finishing my heart said 4.5 stars but my mind was saying there were a few things I didn’t like about the ending. I’ve decided I’m giving it 4.5 because I enjoyed it so much. It’s been a long time since I binge read a series and it was so much fun. I’m sad to be saying goodbye to these characters and these worlds. This one is definitely causing a book hangover, and I’m glad I didn’t hesitate to start this one right away.

I was a bit apprehensive because I saw other reviews saying the ending wasn’t what they hoped for. The ending was okay, not as bad as I was picturing because I saw where it was going and it did it better than another book I read that had a similar ending. This book did it better, but there were still some flaws.

The found family aspect is so sweet! I love how they've all become more than friends now, that they're totally in this thing together. Even Osric, who was sort of aloof at first, really opened up and there were so many moments between him and Everley that I found really cute. The relationships between the characters grew so much throughout the series, and I like how friends of the same and opposite sexes could be physically affectionate with each other without it being a big deal.

Throughout the series the author does a fantastic job at exploring emotions and what it means to be human, and what makes life worth living. Going into this series I expected it to be just a fun read, but it amazed me with how much was explored and how deep I could actually dig into it.

Spoilers!

I think Quinn needed to be more involved in the main events of the series. She is usually left behind, and she seems to be a character without much purpose. I would have liked for her to maybe go on the adventure to the Silver Clouded Plain with Everley. I like her character but she didn't seem to have that much reason for being there, except as a surrogate younger sister Everley wants to protect because her own siblings could not protect her. She is young, yes, about 13 by the end, but she isn't that much younger than Everley. I was glad when she let Quinn come with her when they wee talking with the merrows but I think she could have done more.

In the beginning it felt almost like Everley has a bit of a regression because Father Time tells her that she is letting her anger over what Markham has done rule her, and I agree to a certain point. I thought at the end of book one that Everley had realized how much of her life she wasted on seeking revenge and not realizing what she had, and that she was moving on from that and not allowing it to rule her anymore. Especially at the end of book two when her uncle gives the rest of his time up so she can survive, I think she would realize this. I don't think it was to the same extent as before, but I could see what Father Time was talking about. She mentioned in the beginning that Markham killed her uncle, which is not true. He chose to die then and give her the chance to live. If he was supposed to have died then, he wouldn't have had any years left to give her. Blaming Markham seems like something the old Everley would do, and that annoyed me a bit because to me it seemed like she had grown so much. Even after Markham killed Tavis she didn't seem to go down the path of being consumed by revenge again, so I didn't understand the change is her character. This was especially clear near the end when Everley gets upset with Osric for saying he used to like Markham romantically, and then she thinks that she will never look at him the same way again. This incensed me because she's had a good relationship with him and that soured it a bit for me, though I don't think she actually meant it. He wasn't saying that he liked Markham still, but he can't change the fact he had a romantic interest in the past or that Markham still has supporters. She is just taking her anger out on him. She is very bitter and kind of whiny, which made me dislike her a bit. I've liked her up until this point, though some of her decisions, especially repeatedly trusting Markham, did annoy me.

I admit when I figured out that this story was going to use the trope of reversing things that happened but then having the sacrifice of everything and everyone the main character knows, I wasn’t a fan. I’ve seen it done poorly in the past, and in some ways I think it shouldn’t be used because it leads to problems and negates everything that happened before. I didn’t understand why they needed to fix time and erase Markham’s existence. I get that the consequences of his actions have rippled throughout the worlds but that is true of any decision people make. As Everley said, she met these wonderful people because of Markham, and their lives would change as a result of eliminating Markham. Some of them may not have been born or may have become different people because everything about their world changed. Who knows what would have become of Quinn if her family was still living in poverty? Or if she was even born? The other book I read with this ending at least mentioned this, but the epilogue is completely focused on Everley and Jamison so it doesn’t. Everley kind of remembers what happened but not really, she just sees the people she knew and their stories in her dreams. I see this as an attempt by the author to say yes these things still happened even though everything has been reset, which I think is good, but I still don’t think this trope is a great one to use.

Father Time mentioned that eliminating Markham across all time would fix the worlds and the consequences of Markham’s actions for the better, but I have to question if that’s actually true. Thinking about it, eliminating Markham means that the portals to the Silver Clouded Plain would never have been opened again. The giants aren’t all bad, as we saw, and it’s wrong that if they leave they can never return. As mentioned, Everley and the others came together and formed friendships because of Markham, even despite all the pain he caused. Removing Markham led Everley to lead a life that seems pretty painless; she is whole again and has her family back. It is undeniable that the pain Markham caused her made Everley who she was throughout the series, and erasing that means she would be a different person in the epilogue when she meets Jamison. I think it’s great that they meet again and, as I suspected, both the scenes that Everley and Jamison saw could exist in the same future, but they are not the same because their experiences with Markham changed them. Thinking about the elves, it also would have changed Imelda’s life. She loved Markham and said he gave her purpose, so what happened to her now that he bas never existed? What happened to Amadara and Brea? Harlow wouldn’t have existed because her father was an elf who was working with Markham, so if Markham didn’t exist he would’ve had no reason to be there and he wouldn’t have met Harlow’s mother. Do they really have the right, even after all he has done, to erase him from existence? Who says this is the way things were supposed to be? It seems there are pros and cons to each timeline and that removing Markham's existence permanently was the wrong answer. I wish there was another solution that did not require resetting the timeline. I think it undermined some of the things I really loved about this book, especially the idea that time is love and that even if she doesn't have flesh and blood heart, Everley is still a human capable of love. It undermined the found family aspect because we lose that at the end. It undermined the sacrifice Everley's uncle made, giving up his remaining years for her.

I think we could have gotten a bit more of the final battle before Everley runs off to find Markham. I think it was great to see cooperation between the triad and with the queen's soldiers, and I don't think we got enough time to bask in that. While Everley was with Markham I was wondering what was going on with the battle, not that it really mattered anyway, but I wanted to know if things were going down the way Everley saw them in her visions.

Overall I was satisifed with the conclusion to this series and the ending wasn't as bad as I was thinking it was going to be from other reviews. Initially when I figured out it was going to be this kind of ending I said "Oh heck no", but I think it worked out okay. I didn't hate it and I will definitely be revisiting this series in the future. I am looking forward to other books this author might publish. I have The Hundredth Queen on my want to read list, but the premise doesn't excite me that much. I kind of want something more along these lines.

Reread 2025: Still loved this whole series!

*****

I absolutely loved this series! It's been so fun to read! Each book was peppered with influences from many different fairy tales, some more obvious than others. I loved seeing all the different inspirations throughout the series.

EVERAFTER SONG is the third and final book in this series, and it was an action packed, exciting conclusion. I thought it was the perfect ending. I really enjoyed how Emily R. King made you care about her whole cast of characters and not just the main ones. I even found myself understanding the villain's motivation and wondering if he wasn't in the right.

I can't wait to see what Emily R. King comes up with next.

Terrible writing style..

Too many mistakes, inconsistencies, and poor character development. Has to shove her wokeness in the readers face, with ZERO to do with the story. One of the worst trilogies that I've read

Either ending could have worked, but what if...

This review dwells mostly on the ending, so you can assume there may be spoilers. Don't read this until after you have finished the book yourself!

I still don't know how I feel about the ending of this book and series. Father Time knew it would all work out if Everley decided to fix the break in time,

But to me, it still feels like she will never become the strong person she was without the struggles in life that she had to endure. Ideally, she will be better and won't have those same issues because Markham never influenced her life. She will have normal life problems to deal with, which is presumably the life she was intended to have, as Father Time implied earlier. But still, it's not the same.

In fact, if Markham was erased from the timeline entirely, that's hundreds of years unaffected by his actions. Yes, it would fix the world from all of his evil influence, but it would also drastically alter the entire history since before he was born, including At least Markham's damage eventually united all the different creatures and would lead to better worlds in the end. Maybe that's just one perspective.

It's risky to mess with time because someone will always see it another way and want something changed. I personally wouldn't have minded if It changed the worlds, I think for the better eventually, and they would use what they experienced as reminders for why that can't happen again. All the worlds would remember the destruction of the Land of Youth and would work hard to never let it happen again. They would appreciate the cooperation of all the creatures now that they have been reunited and can understand each other. They can share what they've learned with their peoples so they understand the intentions of the deities for why each race was given a certain world. They can appreciate their own worlds, their own purposes, and work together to improve them again, just as they were created for. It's unfortunate that none of those learned lessons will remain. But that won't solve the issues among the races and worlds that existed even before Markham got involved.

I still accept the current ending and believe they all deserve a chance at the lives they were meant to have without interference. They deserve to be happy and live well. I'm just saying, the other way would have been an alternate ending and I think readers would have accepted it also. The worlds are a mess after war, but we learn to appreciate what was learned and saved, and rebuild to be even better and avoid those terrible mistakes again. I would have accepted either ending. I don't hate the current one, I just had to get my thoughts out there about why leaving the timeline as it was could have still worked. I still enjoyed this adventurous series though!

Emily R. King takes us on yet another exhilarating journey with our heroine, Evie; and I was once again unable to tear my eyes away from this book for even a second. We get to see more world, meet more characters, understand the depth of Killian and finally why he's done all of this. In a way, however, the reveal for his villainy was almost disappointing. I personally didn't think it warranted how evil he ended up becoming, but I suppose this is true of most villains in the real world.

This final journey and final battle that Evie and co. went on was so enjoyable, this whole book I loved the build up to everything. But when it came to the climax, and resolution of the story, I just expected so much more. Everything felt so rushed in those final chapters and it felt all the build up for these three books, the friendships and relationships these characters had ... it was washed away in a single second. The epilogue was short, and displeasing, and left me wondering what happened to all of the other characters that the author introduced us to. I want to know THEIR fates, not just Jamison and Evie's.

I loved everything up until the ending, but was ultimately dissatisfied with how everything wrapped up. Nevertheless, this was a magical, wonderful tale of sacrifice, love, and friendships that I think many fantasy readers will love.

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The conclusion to the Evermore Chronicles will have Everley Donovan making the ultimate sacrifice, but can she do it? Killian Markham, the prince of elves, has a devious plan and is always steps ahead of Everley Donovan and her friends. Everley has been Killian's pawn for too long. Killian has allies and plans to wake the giants from their slumber to finish what was started hundreds of years ago, making the humans servants to the elves. Everley will have to gather allies, including ones she believed were enemies, to save time and those she loves, for she is the Time Bearer, the only one who can stop Killian. Everley and her companions travel through the different lands, dealing with mermaids, elves, giants, and humans. Seeing glimpses of the future and the horrors that will come if they do not succeed gives Everley more determination to stop Killian. But Killian has been planning this for a long time and revenge is a powerful motivator. Killian is a master manipulator and Everley will need to somehow outsmart him to save time.

The final book in a trilogy, Ms King has constructed an inventive and imaginative world where our hero Everley, must surmount incredible obstacles with her friends to defeat an evil prince and save her worlds (there are seven in her universe). The wonderful descriptions of the varied characters is what makes this story so enjoyable in the end. You are roped in to their fight and journey, even though there is virtually nothing even close to real, including Evie's clock heart.

An enjoyable and engaging journey, recommended if you can suspend belief.

I guessed the ending with Jamison's confession. Do I like it? no, but its the only way for the HEA,

It doesn't retract from the fact that Miss King weaved a very intense beautiful fanciful world and I loved being part of it

I know I am repetitive but I wish these books were longer.

I don’t know what else to say without writing any spoiler that I didn’t say in my previous review. Maybe that I wished there were 7 books one for each world.

I loved how the legends were slightly different in every world and the new characters Evie met were great.

I truly loved the ending but I still wish for more. And again: the mythology of this world was AMAZING!

Also this cover is STUNNING!

A good conclusion to this trilogy. I enjoy the strong characters, the representation through a diverse and inclusive band. A well rounded story with just the right balance of battle and team. Not to be read out of sequence, this is a series worth binging!

This series was good, but I wish the books were a bit longer so the relationships could have time to develop a little more believably. It seemed like people went from mortal enemies to best friends in the space of a breath and I often wondered how that switch was flipped.

More like 3.5 stars for this one.

READ THIS SERIES!!
Thank you Netgalley and Skyscape for this eARC!
Wow. What can I say I loved books one and two in the trilogy and EverAfter Song did not disappoint. From a strong female heroine named Everly with a clock for a heart to the wide array of friends she has gained along the way some other strong females like her dear friends who love each other the Cat and the Fox to Vevina and Quinn a child who has grown into herself, and lastly an elf born male who uses a glamour to show the world her true self.

The world building in the series has been a wonder to read about and I am certain there are many more tales that this world could tell to keep me enthralled. For this book we were finally able to peer into the Silver-Clouded Plain and see into the life of the giants beyond the captain and Nelly.

Everly spends this book chasing her mortal enemy from one land to the next seeking justice for the destruction he has torn into her life, but also realizing that all of her friends are positives that have come from this. Given the chance to turn it all back she mourns the thought of losing the people that have been brought into her life. One of these people is of course Jamison who is a slow burn romance that we have been falling for since the first book even if he's claiming love at first sight. The heart always has a way of remembering and the sacrifice was made worth it.

The finale to the ‘Evermore Chronicles’ by Emily R.King is here . Since I have not read the previous versions of the series, my understanding of the whole concept might be flawed but I would like to share the general impression of “The Everafter Song” as a stand alone.

Based on the opening and gathering from the ensuing conversation between Jamie & Everley, I am assuming that Everley is the reluctant heroine tasked with the task of saving the world and one who falls afoul of the authorities ergo subsidiary villains who mark her as a wanted criminal. Result – Everley is on the run, escaping from the clutches of the authorities in nick of time while at the same time gunning for the main villain, who goes by the name of Markham in this tale. While fleeing from the powers that be, Everley also gathers few odd, assorted but loyal friends who remain true to her and her cause. Not only does she gather friends but she also acquires powerful weapons and remarkable powers of her own and of which she is clueless about (as does happen), she is learning but time is running out for her as enemies close in on her..It’s time to make the final assault, the one that will determine the future and settle the destiny of the universe once for all.

And now we come to the final book. Everley comes back to the place where it all began for her. From a girl who had a loving family, a shop full of clocks sought after by the citizens and a normal heart, she is now an orphan, a fugitive who has lost her beloved shop and has a ticking clock for a heart.

Everley revisits her uncle Holden’s clock shop and unexpectedly meets Jamie, her erstwhile husband. Both share few moments of togetherness when there is a rude interruption in the form of police officers. The police officers identify her as the wanted fugitive and give a chase. One of the officer is shot down by her friend Cat, thus forcing them to flee to the hinterland, to the castle of Jamie Callahan.

Markham, the main villain enters the scene and forces more chaos and trouble for Everley and her friends. The momentum keeps spiralling out of control until the time , Everley decides to make her final stand. A final decides the fate of the world and fate of Everley, does she succeed? Does she get her happily ever after or ?

Opinion:
As I read through, I found that I was not overly sympathetic to the heroine or her cause. The scene or the emotions seemed to be built up desultorily thus leaving you untouched. Though action seemed to be continuous, it failed to give the impression of urgency, there was no “O My God, what’s going to happen next?” moment in the book. It moves at a languid phase with discerning readers already able to predict the outcome of how each twist is going to end up. However, there is one plot point which does surprise the reader along with Markham, that is his sister’s reason for murdering their parents!!

Markham, admittedly the main villain of the piece and certainly the best written character in this book. There are moment when you ‘feel’ for him more than for the heroine. His reasons for his actions seem weak, I mean as a chief villain, you employ hirelings or manipulate people to achieve your agenda instead of personally doing it yourself. He is determined and a master manipulator who wants to subjugate the humans, beat the time and become a God. He nearly succeeds too until Time delivers a sucker punch sending him into the darkness of eternity.

Everley comes across as a disgruntled savior who is dragged by the bit to do her task, left to herself, she would be happy to lol around in the castle, trying to find a cure for her clock heart and making a home with her husband Jamie. In other words, she is more of a selfish woman than a heroine material. Thus, when the climax comes, you do not feel for her ‘sacrifice’, for one, because, she did not choose it of her free will and had to choose it when her options dwindled. Two, readers get to know the “Happily Ever After” bit in the conversation between Father Time and Everley.

The one part I did enjoy was the part where the giants make an entrance. The brief interlude was refreshing and made that segment alive.

The Ever After Song is slow paced, the lack of witty liners or humor makes it a dull book.

I did not expect much from the last book in this trilogy, and I was not peasantly surprised, nor disappointed. If anything, this instalment shows the same strengths and flaws as the previous books: amazing mythology, a beautiful writing style, but overall predictability and problems in pacing.

Overall, I feel that not much happened during those 3 books. They all have the same format: very slow until the action picks up at about 70 or 80%. If it is understandable in the first book to explain the world and the intrigue that is to come, it much less so in the next two books, especially in the last one that should tie all the loose ends.
I really found this book predicatble. From the way Markham can be hurt that was pretty much explained at the end of the second book, but poor stupid Everley can't figure it out (seriously, how much more obvious did it need to be?), to the predictions that explained exactly what was going to happen, especially when Father Time finally explains everything to Everley... Nothing surprised me.
Once again, Everley follows instructions rather than coming up with her own plans... and always fails when she is left alone. Even when she saves the worlds, it is not really by her hand. No epic fight, no gesture of pure intelligence from her part: Markham was defeated because he was himself under-estimating her and being stupid. Which, once again, doesn't make for a compelling villain. I unerstand that Everley defeats him because she finally allows herself to love people and let them in to help her and be there with her... but as a mean to struck the last blow, to me, it doesn't work. Yes, she grew up, yes, she's finally getting her revenge, and not the way she intended at first... but I wasn't invested enough to feel this sensation of triumph and the happiness of knowing him completely erased.
This instalment brought a bit more characterisation... but not enough because most characters still felt very shallow and far removed from the complexity of individuals. The LGBTQI+ characters didn't really feel genuine but just there to include the community in the story. There was more info-dumping about them than really arcs where their identity really matter. Showing them for the sake of filling quotas doesn't really work, at least to my opinion.
Markham still doesn't feel believable or even scary. Everybody repeats how he is cunning, terrible, cruel, and smart... but I just had a villain who wriggled his way through characters surviving and making the most of it rather than being on top of the situation. Once again, given his age... how can he bare to interact with the characters? I'm 24 and I would've ignored them. Same with Osric... a 600 something year old elf befriending a 17 year-old... how is there nothing wrong with it? Even I wouldn't sleep in the same bed as a 17 yo, male or female. And I wouldn't have the patience for that.

Now let's talk about the ending... I would've liked a bittersweet one. Here, everything is just too jolly happy, everyone is alive, everyone is happy, everyone gets the ending they supposedly deserved, and Everley and Jamison finds their way towards each other again. The difficulty about killing Markham was giving up on everything good that happened to Everley, but this sacrifice doesn't have any weight once you see the outcome. Her family's alive. She's meeting the love of her life. She's happiest than she ever could've been in the other timeline. The sacrifice doesn't feel like one (and it was so predictable from beforehand she should not have had any hesitation, especially with the predictions made by Muriel that showed the outcome without any subtelty).

To conclude, I should stay away from YA. It used to be a guilty pleasure of mine... I guess I've really outgrown it now.

This one took me a while because I was sooooooo irritated by choices for so much of it. Thankfully the conclusion redeemed the story. It was very creative and overall I enjoyed the series.

Clever, original and impactful, a thoughtful reaffirmation of original writing.

Creative style and flair with significance, a welcome addition in today's writing world, Emily R. King delivers with flourish. This trilogy is just one piece of a growing body of work, that I look forward to reading much more of. Thank you Emily R. King, work well done, well done.

MORE Reasons you need to read The Evermore Chronicles (aka My Review of Everafter Song)

This entire series has been incredibly difficult to write reviews for. Mostly, I just want to rant about how amazing it is. And it IS amazing. So, here are some more reasons why you should read this series (as told after I finished reading Everafter Song, the final book in the series).

The writing is incredibly lyrical without bringing down the pacing. The moment I began reading the first page, I felt like I was at home in the Evermore world again. There's so much magic, so much worldbuilding, and the prose weaves it all together in a way that doesn't feel like it's bogging down the plot.

The romance is such a beautiful slow burn, but it's more than that. Everley's and Jamison's relationship is built on trust, loyalty, and unconditional love. It's rare to find those qualities in YA these days, and it just makes all of me tingle with happiness.

The way the villain in this book is depicted is so interesting to me. Killian is always so close to Everley in proximity, which doesn't feel common in fantasy at all. Usually the big bad is far away and out of reach, but Killian is always RIGHT THERE, and man does it drive the stakes up. He's so complex and complicated, yet it is so easy to hate him completely. So despicable.

Everley's growth throughout the series is a joy to watch. I loved her arc. I won't say much more than that, but she is by far one of my favorite female protagonists ever.

If you get the chance, I urge you to read this series. It's beautiful and powerful, filled to the brim with strong messages of courage, love, and moving on from those who hurt you. I'm so grateful I had the chance to read it.

Filled with colourful characters with immensely detailed backstories, I found there are quite a few I could personally relate to, I dare say, there is something in here for everyone.

With a lot of spirit travelling, time travelling and world travelling, this is not the easiest read to follow, but if you pace yourself and stick with it the big picture falls in place perfectly at the end.

I love the mystery and atmosphere that each character brings to the story, as we wait for the story to unfold. The atmosphere of whether this new character can be trusted or is betrayal looming adds a wonderful depth and dynamic to the story. Especially when it comes to the pirates.

What I didn't love is the lack of a breakdown of the worlds. I would love a map of an index to just help form a better picture of how this universe works.

I would definitely recommend this for fans of the Raven and the Dove by Kaitlyn Davis as well as Reign of Fire

To be completely honest, I was never in love with this series. I enjoyed the first book, but by the time I started Everafter Song, I just wasn't invested anymore.

It's not a bad novel. The writing is good, and the world building is extravagant (if not overly complicated). And I liked the heroine, too. But in this story, I was just bored. None of the characters felt three-dimensional, the magic system was messy and confusing, and the pacing dragged and then jumped and ultimately felt weak and poorly structured. I didn't care about anything that was happening, and there were also a number of grammatical errors which frustrated me.

Overall, I wasn't invested. The characters, the plot, and the world building were either bewildering or flat.

I loved this book and the entire series but it took me sometime to get through this one. The stakes were raised so high that I found myself having to stop because I couldn’t take what was about to happen! Everleigh and Jameson were so dang cute together and I loved seeing the evolution of their relationship. That ending though! I did not see that coming and oh, it hurt my heart so much! I was so happy for Everleigh but also so sad for her relationships with everyone she met throughout her journey. That really was one of the best endings I’ve read in a long time and I usually do not like when that happens but it fit this story so much. I love everything Emily R. King writes and I cannot wait to read her next series!

Honestly I think the audiobook narrator really REALLY killed this book for me. It was fairly subpar writing, overly flowery, trying too hard BUT it was an interesting enough concept that I could look past all that and still enjoy the overall effect. Kinda like a hallmark movie.

But the narrator. Omg the narrator. She was constantly yelling random parts of the book like they were THE MOST DRAMATIC THING EVER when honestly they were just walking up a flight of stairs? Calm down? Why are you screaming the story at me? Why are you talking like that? Stop.
