ML Hamilton taught high school English and journalism in Central California for 32 years.
Teaching students to appreciate literature made her career rewarding; however, she always dreamed of publishing her own novel.
In 2010, the dream came true. Her first novel, Emerald, was published by Wild Wolf Publishing. The sequel to Emerald, The Heirs of Eldon, followed the next year.
In addition to teaching and writing, she has three sons, two daughters-in-law, two dogs, and three amazing grandbabies.

This series surprises people. Often when people hear of a work that centers on women's issues they expect anger, men-hating, aggressive attitudes and some semblance of bra burning. ML Hamilton's series The Year of Discovery is SO not that. We all dream, don't we? We all wonder if we have what it takes to make it in this world? At some time or another... We all struggle with family, or friends, or children, or significant others. I think that's the point of this thought provoking series... we all struggle. This anthology contains the first three stories of The Year of Discovery - JANUARY, FEBRUARY and MARCH. There could not be three more different women living three more different lives. But you get involved with them, you root for them, you feel their pain. And if you let them, they will inspire you. I love this series. We just released MAY, Book five and I can't wait to begin on JUNE. This box set is a great way to immerse yourself in the stories and get a real feel for the road ML Hamilton traverses with these stories. Join her. I think you will be glad you did.
This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:
The motto of the set should be: Never stop pursuing your dreams - and don't let others dictate you who you are.
The set contains three books that are separate stories, though all are connected through characters appearing in all of them as they remain in the same circle of more or less close friends. Each of the women the books are about - Maddie, Destiny and Lexie - has her own personal demons, problems that seem insurmountable, weaknesses but also strenghts, and each of them is an actually strong person, even if they do not see themselves as such. I also like the fact that each of the stories touches on an important issue - how to cope with the death of someone you love; how to live on without sacrificing your own dreams to let others follow theirs; how to overcome your own fears and belief in your inferiority to others; how to survive a relationship in which you're always the guilty party; how to rebuilt your life after an addiction; and how not to give up but fight for what has always been your dream.... And all these difficult matters are touched upon with delicacy, great tact and subtlety...
Narration by Ms Hazen is very good. She adds warmth to the stories, she makes the main characters seem human and real, and definitely relateable. It's a very good interpretation of the books.

The box set of the first three books in The Year of Discovery series! All of the books are stand alone, but they are so much more powerful if read as a series.
When breast cancer takes the life of one woman, the legacy she leaves behind prompts twelve other women to embark on their own journey of discovery and to pursue their dreams.
This set contains Madelyn, Destiny, and Lexie’s stories.
I cannot imagine a better narrator for this series than Kelley Hazen. She brings out the emotions that each of the characters are experiencing, the highs and the lows. As I listen, I feel like I know each of these characters, they are all so full of life.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it inspiring. I don't listen to much fiction, I prefer more action and suspense usually. But the first three books of this series, has won me over. Every type of emotion is on display. The death of a beloved sister starts the cycle, the first book is about the legacy she left her younger sister. The second book is about a friend, the younger sister encouraged. The third book is about the friend helping a co-worker. Each book is inspiring and uplifting, even though tragedy has it these women's lives. This combination of author and narrator never fails to draw you into their world.
The Winter of Discovery Box Set: Volume One was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. This box set consists of the first three books in the Year of Discovery Series; January, February and March. This series follows twelve women who are connected by the death of another. This is such a great series by M.L. Hamilton. Kelley Hazen does a great job of narrating it and bringing life to the characters. I can't wait to read more of this series.
This is a fantastic listen the first 3 books in the series. The Author has brought these three fantastic listens to fruition. It feels like I am right there in the scenes living through them vicariously. The Narrator and Author has really hit a home run. The Voices and Characters are fantastically written. I definitely recommend Shauna Joesten
