Hiro Sheuri lives a semi-comfortable life in the middle of a forest inhabited by territorial Jinns, except for the minor annoyance of being possessed by a Vampire Spirit. He has an easy job, cleaning up after the creatures of the Secret World run riot in human cities. He must hide the existence of demons but they have started obliterating whole cities. His life becomes unwelcomingly interesting when he is attacked on what was supposed to be a straightforward job, by his enemy the A’richeils, hauntingly beautiful beings that feed on emotions.
Hiro’s world turns destructive and dark when he discovers the creatures are being infected by a sickness that is driving them insane. While Hiro investigates the cause of this sickness, a new dark power appears that has the potential to devastate both the human and Spirit world.
Darkness and death, monsters and madness clash in a world gone insane.
This is the story of Hiro, the vampire and Raenik. The entire story is set in a forest setting. Both of them try to find their way and come across very weird instances along the way. Later they find a girl Ray, who is kind of insane according to them and has some powers which makes her go completely out of control and later forgets about it completely. This first instance was witnessed by Hiro alone and then he tried to explain Raenik about this who doesn't take him seriously at all. Her attacks were becoming ever more unpredictable, more ruthless, and more vicious day by day.
Then the story has some other kind of creatures called A’richeils, they were like very cunning and devious, they were beautiful creatures that approached humans who were grieving or vulnerable and offered them a deal they couldn’t resist. But with a price to pay: they took one’s soul once the deal was done. They fed on souls—they didn’t go attacking humans and they definitely didn’t kill them.
Later part, where Hiro follows Ray, she finds out that he is a vampire and also doesn't want to go back to the hospital and decides to stay with Hiro. Her sickness starts getting worst and Hiro cannot figure out what it is. Soon Hiro finds out there is some power which is causing this sickness in the dark world which is powerful and strong.
While Hiro's world turn destructive and dark when he discovers the creatures of the Secret World are being infected by a sickness that is driving them insane. He investigates the cause of the sickness, a new dark power immerges who has the power to destroy both the human world and the spirit world. Will Hiro be able to defeat both the powers ? Will be be affected by them too ?
The Sickness is a story of vampire, fantasy, horror, thriller, good and bad, Mutant and supernatural power.
The story of a village. Lightning struck at night in the village. The night was so dark and thick. And the terror of lightening was so scary. Villagers were screaming with fear. The whole village was stirring in that thick and dark night. A boy named Hiro Sheuri he was half human and half vampire and a beautiful creature named Raenik saw stir in the village. They saw that the hospital building was shaking like an earthquake. They decided to go there.
They saw all the bodies lying in the ground. They found a girl named Ray there. Hiro then came to knows about all the attacks in other places from Raenik. Hiro wanted to save people from the demons and sick A'richeils. He came to know about the deepest power. He wanted to stop that deepest power from destroying the whole world But his power was nothing in front of her.
Go grab this book and enjoy the story ahead. I recommend this book to those who like to read adventure horror and fantasy fiction. The adventure tied me to the book from starting to end and i love the way all the scenes in the story are described. The last part of the story was really touched. I expect the second part of the book, and I would love to see this story in a movie series.
The Sickness is an interesting and creative story that is engaging from the start. I felt some Mortal Instrument vibes from the creatures and world building. There were moments of high action but at times the pacing lagged and it was hard to tell where the story was going. The book was written very well and the author plotted her idea thoroughly, however the abrupt end left unanswered questions. Parts of the book felt like 2 stars while other parts were 4, so I'm averaging it at 3.
I started this book with high hopes. YA and Vampires are my guilty pleasure reads.
The start with character Luke is promising, I like thos boy and at this moment I am dying to know what happened to his town.
After a couple of pages in I fellt very disappointed. This os absolutely not the YA vampire story I was looking for. With every other pages read I wanted to quit.. Seriously so bad, I had to urge my self to read further.
The sentences were weirdly written. Their were too many battles and characters locked up for their own safety. The 'Dark' japanese gangster feeling of the story was to much, it reminded me of 'Death Note' the Japanese serie (which I did enjoy to watch). In this case it all misses depth, a good plot, interesting characters and an emotional connection. I feel like this book is missing all of the above.
There was a section about Luke I enjoyed a bit but overall it was not a book for me.
I read it in one sitting cz it is written in a way that one can not put it down. I love the illustration of the Creatures and I love the plot and suspense so much that it didn't let me put it down in the middle. Good luck for the next one. Can't wait to read more ❤
The first chapter is written with a sharp intensity befitting the downfall of the Arc, the world that is all Luke has ever known. I expected a change in pace as the scene shifted to the new characters Hiro with his, ‘dark demonic side’, and the shimmering white Raenik, so ‘pure and angelic’. But the writing style, based around concise sentences continued and so did the suspense and drama. It kept up the pace cover to cover and it felt like this book wasn’t meant to be put down. Luke’s new life outside of the Arc certainly delivers on fantasy, with vivid descriptions of dangerous infected creatures, and the storyline is solid for progression into the next episodes where, ‘The apocalypse is upon us’. A very promising start for a first time author and I'm falling in between three and four stars. The writing certainly could have more flow but any shortfalls are outweighed by the idea which is pretty original, and that's what will carry this series forward.
The Sickness was a fast paced read. Definitely not the usual vampire story. The plot of the story is good evil vs good type with lots of mystery that unfolds with every page. Yazarah did a fantastic job with character development you can feel the pain Hiro and Ray are going through. The idea of a physical world and a second world filled with spiritual beasts can be hard to follow at times. A few places the story bounces from present to past with no real warning. The end comes with a big shock, not sure whether there is more to come or if it was the end of the story. The end has a few places that is harder to follow, not sure if I would have ended it the way it ended. Overall the Sickness is a good read for those who love Fantasy.
The story is following dark Vampirism possessed Hiro. His job is to clean up after the creatures of Second World and hide their existence from humans. Good thing he isn’t alone in it, and has a light angelic friend, Raenik keeping him company. Among all vampire, angels and demons inspire the stories and it's nice to still see a unique and different aproach to it. I like how these creatures are presented and described and, its not what we all used to believe/know about them. I also like the other characters introduced: Hiro's Jinn friends, nurse Thea and especially a girl named Ray. Ray's introduction to the story is well written and so is her 'role' througt the whole book. I think she is the best portrayed character in the whole book and her parts were most interesting for me to read.
The story often had sudden ''jumps'' to new settings, characters, feelings or subjects, which seemed a bit unrelated to me. The storyline didn't 'flow nicely' and I wasn't able to particularly connect and dive into it.
Some things confused me and I felt part of the stories are missing. I wished for more explanations at the beginning. I felt like some information and parts were brought to story pretty late and some are still missing. I'm hoping for more of it in the next book, since this is out to be book series. There's definitely space to improve in sequel and tie the events together.
If you love vampires, demons, angels and apocalypse storylines then this is book for you, and worth of reading.
I have to admit at the beginning, I was slightly confused - but the good kind. The kind that left me wanting more and more, addicted. It felt like I was plunged in darkness like in a cinema room, staring at the screen unable to break my trance off of it. I really felt like I was watching a movie, and it was so darn cool!! This book isn’t meant to be put down especially with all the mystery, suspense, and drama! So it was definitely sad when I HAD to put it down to get some studying done, but as soon as everything cleared up and I had the time, I finished it!!! Got a few dozen theories formulating in my head about characters! I really loved Salih (no idea why though😜)!!!! So if anything happens to him, whatsoever, I will hunt you down. In a very friendly way though of course. That end though!! I use though quite a lot don’t I, though I don’t do it on purpose.(okay now I kind of did😂😇) The book is beautifully written, and I definitely want to know what happens next!!!
With an array of creatures and complex characters, this dark fantasy has slowly dragged me in. I was confused at the beginning, but wanted to know more. Ray is a very interesting character; her mind is a mess. As I got to see through her eyes, I often thought, woman you are in a deep dark pit. It wasn't always easy for me to follow her train of thought, or her reaction to Hiro.
Hiro finds Ray when he cleans up the mess that has been left after the hospital Ray was in is destroyed. He saves her, not that she jumps for joy at his helpful hand.
Hiro and his friends Luke and Raenik try to find out what the sickness is, where it is coming from and why it is set lose on the world. That is no easy matter. That ending.. not at all what I was expecting!
The Sickness is an interesting book in this realm fantasy series, and has one of the more original and interesting takes on Vampires I've seen. I gave it three stars because while the characters are generally interesting enough, and Yazarah has gone a good way to avoid most of the obvious clichés of this genre, the story was generally a little off with it's pacing, with either not so much happening in points or way too much. There is also a smattering of Deus Ex Machina at points, which I always find a little frustrsting, but it was reasonably consistent with the delivery.
Overal, if you like angel & deamon young adult fantasy with a twist, and a lot more too it than just 'am I a bad guy' morality ethics then 'The Sickness' should be on your to read list.
Pure fantasy but the fantastical creatures are so well described, even through fight scenes, that the video keeps playing in the reader's head.
First chapter sets things up for the "what is going on there” but by chapter five we begin to understand how the two worlds are related.
Characters are well drawn and, as they change, redrawn. Fight scenes are realistic and also help to draw the characters. If you like action in your fantasy novel then this one is for you.
Anyone into fantasy, of any age, would enjoy this novel and I would recommend it.
This book is different and insightful compared to your normal fantasy book. The author has managed to provide plot twists, cliffhangers, and has intertwined religion with magic, creating a gripping storyline for everyone to read. While the author does incorporate historical aspects such as Jinns etc., he has also done a fantastic job of adding in fantasy aspects too, which give the story more of an edge and allow vivid visualisation to take place.
My favourite thing about this book is the good and casual representation of Asian characters who aren't just side characters. I definitely loved this book, given my adoration for vampires and I believe it's a fantastic start to a greater series.
✨Book Review ✨ . . Book- The Sickness Author- Yazarah @the_sickness_yazarah Genre- Fantasy
Starting with the cover till the end of the book has a dark aura. The book starts when Luke and his village witnesses a lightening for the first time. They haven't seen this worse weather conditions but this weather has destroyed their entire village. This is all about Vampires, jinns and all supernatural creatures. . . Hiro and Raenik have an easy job to clean up the mess after the creatures of Secret World ruins the human city. Hiro wants to hide the demons but they continue to destroy the human cities. The Secret World consists of all the supernatural powers. Hiro goes out for his job and finds a girl and rescues her. Hiro's life gets upside down when he is attacked by the enemy A'richeils. Meanwhile he finds that all the creatures are infected with a strange sickness which is making them more violent. While he investigates the sickness a new dark power appears which has the potential to destroy both Secret World and the human World. . . . The way it is written one can visualize the scene. The book is full of magic. The story is set in a forest and everything is described so well. The narration style is gripping and smooth. . . . Happy Reading Bookworms💙 .
“The openness and huge expanse of the night swallowed her. The unknown, the vulnerability of having her senses rendered almost useless, sent a thrill of fearful excitement she hadn’t felt in so long.”
The world is shattering, people live in their villages under protective domes, and a mysterious sickness is slowly spreading across the world. The apocalypse is nearing when the main characters—a young vampire boy Hiro, angel Raenik and a puzzling girl named Ray meet in a collapsed hospital.
The mysterious creatures—A’richeils (something between demons and fairies)—seem to be responsible for the upcoming chaos, but (similar to my own stories) not all villains are truly the ones to blame. There are quite a few characters to memorise, but I loved the cultural diversity of all creatures. Although the main character (Hiro) is a vampire, his circle of friends consists of Jins, Werewolves, Angles and whatnot, each a member of a different race both magically and the way we know it in the human world. I loved seeing how this story unravels and lets me explore other cultures in dystopian settings. If you enjoy books with detailed surroundings, strong friendships, lots of magic and action, fights for a good while battling internal evil—the Sickness may be a book for you.
Although this story has no romance, and it’s written from the 3rd person POV, I enjoyed the dystopian, action-based world. Reading in 3rd person makes me feel distant from the stories, but this book made me watch an anime in my head (which is an amazing alternative when I struggle with reading books in 3rd person).
The reason I’m not giving 5 stars is that the book could do with a better editor, and I felt like the story would be better if written in 1st person from multiple POVs. There were times when I dived into reading Ray’s thoughts, and it suddenly switched to Hiro or Luke and slapped me out of the moment. But overall, this was a good break from romance, I loved the diversity of all creatures/cultures, and I enjoyed all friendships, humour and internal fights. In other words—this was a great read. I hope the author will write more details about Raenik in the sequel as it seemed like an important sidekick I'd love, but his story wasn't revealed yet.
Let me start by saying this is a very interesting read. It feels like reading a manga or reading the descriptive version of an anime and that sets the tone for this book. You enter this mythical world, and from the start, the author has set a very good pace. You turn page after page descending into details of the main characters and the lives they lead. You form a pact and take that forward all the while learning more about the mysterious circumstances that plague the world. There's Jinns and demons and Arch nemesis, but that's just the usual roster. Then the plot flips and throws you down a rabbit hole that may or may not bring you to the brink of the end of a world... all this time you're holding hands with your now favourite characters. The concepts explored have a deep Japanese connection (I'm into it obviously) so is the setting. The fantasy element is vivid and easy to follow. Some themes really reach you emotionally and stay with you after as you consider your own thoughts about the circumstances and how the characters dealt with them. (Some of these may frustrate you - I had a rather hard time getting though a particular part as the rationale felt very transparent and therefore not plausible). It feels like a series and fortunately you don't have to wait a week to read the next chapter (as you would with a manga), the concept therefore holds your interest strongly.
It's a simple read, that's enjoyable and you look forward to knowing what is going to happen next. That ending was mildly predictable, but not bad at all. Looking forward to the next set.
📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚 . The Sickness by Yazarah . 📚 MY REVIEW: . The cover of the book is nice. It's strong and attractive. I loved the cover as well as the title. The title is appropriate. It goes well with the plot of the book. The first thing which I want to mention about the book is that the book is set in a forest and that has the power to attract and grip the reader to continue reading. I enjoyed this fantasy book a lot. . The story has different creatures and they had very unique name. The author had done brilliant job with the characters because the characters are developed in a very unique way. . The book has an amazing story. It has been perfectly narrated. The story line is strong. The plot is very gripping. I was totally hooked to it. As it has some supernatural phenomenon and Also A vampire, I loved Reding it. The story is very interesting. . The language is very each. The story is very each, readable and enjoyable. It's a kind if story you really want to read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO FANTASY LOVERS AND OTHERS JUST TRY IT. . 📚 MY RATINGS: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The Sickness tell us the story of a young man, Hiro, who is adamant on trying to discover the cause of the attacks that are slowly destroying the world while silently fighting his own dark secret. The Sickness is spreading fast and with the help of his angelic best friend,Raenik, Hiro hopes to find the cause of the attacks. On a mission to an abandoned hospital, Hiro rescues a girl, Ray, and together with the help of Raenik tries to help her overcome her demons. That's not all, Luke is looked after by Hiro after his homeland was destroyed, but little does he know, he has a great power and the A'richeils will do anything to get to it! The Sickness is a unlike any YA fantasy I've read before with a diversity of magical characters and religion that got me hooked from the beginning. Yazarah is a brilliant author and I find myself bloodthirsty for more of her writing!
I’m not sure what I expected but that was a bit of a let down.
This book began with some of the best action scenes ever, but as the story went on, it felt like the author either couldn’t be bothered or had no clue where the story was going.
I did like the A’richeils - but didn’t find them very original as they reminded me a lot of the Shinigami’s from Death Note.
I felt nothing was resolved and that the book just ended - with absolutely no hint of a second book! The book is called THE SICKNESS and yet no more than 50 words were actually used to explain what it was. Sadly this was a huge disappointment for me.
Non-content related: this book needed some S E R I O U S editing.
I would have given it a 3.5 only because it's written by a 12 -14 year old. The writer definitely has potential. Dark fantasy is not my regular genre. Interesting occurrences but i felt that the events should be more connected. On the whole an interesting experience.
#📖bookreview📚 . Name: The Sickness Author: Yazarah Genre: Fantasy/ Supernatural . Hiro Sheuri has one job to do, i.e clean up after the mess that the secret world makes. The secret world that is full of all things supernatural. He lives in a forest that is occupied by Jinns as the protectors. One day after he goes out on a job he finds a girl, bound and gagged in a destructed hospital and rescues her. But he is attacked by the A'richelis, and barely escapes. Hiro's world turns upside down when he discovers that the creatures are infected with a sickness that makes them unstable and dangerous. As Hiro investigates he finds himself slowly slipping into the darkness. Will he survive? . I absolutely loved reading it. Not to mention that the main character is Japanese. And I am proud to say that those years of watching anime finally paid off and I could understand the occasional Japanese words.😃 But that aside, I was impressed by the fact that the mythical creatures in the book has been portrayed in different way as they have been described in the myths. I liked the unique interpretation of them. Like the Jinns being so friendly and playful. Vampires being a possessed beast in a human, that sort of thing. The language was good and it was neither too hard nor too simple. One of the characters struck a chord with me and that was Ray. My brain actually started to hurt as I read about her inner turmoils. Yes, they were described so intricately. I was taken by the story and read the book in one sitting. The cover is great too. I applaud the author for her good work and for bringing a new story to the fantasy genre . My rating: 5/5 . #fantasy #supernatural #newreads #readingismyworkout #recommends☝️ #readergirl🤘 #bookdragon🐲
Bookname- The Sickness Author- Yazarah Review- The book has a really dark aura with the name it possess. The start of the book is really a good one with Luke and his village untouched by the harsh features of the modern world. It had a good concept with the villagers never experienced even the harsh weather conditions. But not for away awaited the fate of the village being destroyed by the weather conditions villagers only read about. The start really got me to keep reading further and had those fictional and full of fantasy vibes. The character Hiro and his power to visualize the evil was interesting and Raenik with its all positive description balanced the vibes of the book. Stressing upon fantasy the characters Hiro and Raenik belonged to a world full of magical powers and their main task was to clear up the mess created by the magic world. The narration goes really well with each page being flipped. The descriptions were to the mark which enables the reader to actually visualize the characters through the writings itself. The unfolding of events spice up the story even more, just what we expect from a fantasy genre book. I really liked the atmosphere created in the book through the plot and story line. With the discovery of people having a sickness and with it further unveiling the story takes a different yet interesting turn. Needless to say the characters and the events between them have been narrated really well and not even for a minute did I feel that story was being dragged with every page the story pacing high and developing more interest in unveiling the mystery It holds Ratings- Title-4/5 Cover-4/5 Narration-5/5 Concept-4/5 Overall-4/5-

To be honest, this book might be a little confusing at first but just give it some time to sink in and I’m sure the story will just consume you. Hiro, our main lead here is a human possessed by a vampire who cleans up any kind of mess created by supernatural beings in our world to keep their identity a secret. As there is some kind of sickness corrupting one of these mystical species, there are few attacks in our world. From one such attack on a mental illness institution, Hiro brings Ray home. Being the only survivor of that horrible incident and a mental patient, Ray doesn’t know what is real anymore. She is quiet on the verge of breaking down. Can Hiro find the cause of The Sickness and put things in place ? Is he strong enough to stand against that unknown dark force ? Well….. Read the book and know it yourself. Narration is really good and the plot is gripping. This book had them all like literally Angels, Demons, Jinns, Vampires, Werewolves, Fiery ghosts, A'richeils and Pyrocaits. Don’t ask me what those last two things are, I don’t know. But that story is a hell of a roller coaster ride. This book is kinda dark for my taste but I’m the one who believes in fairies. So…. I have no right to say that.

I am so glad I read this book in October because it has set my mood for Halloween! This book was so unique; in the sense of the plot, the narration style, almost everything to be honest. I have read a lot of fantasy books but it wasn’t like any other fantasy book, it was like I was reading Anime instead of watching it. The description of mythical creatures; the jinns, the vampires and the characters themselves were so so good. I was invested in the story from chapter one and I had no intentions o keeping the book down till I had read the entire thing. The narration style is impeccable and the way the author has built the suspense had me on my toes. I felt that the stories were not flowing into each other properly; they felt a little strained. I am waiting for the second part eagerly because the ending undeniably left me shocked and with a lot of questions!
I have read first two chapters and I found the narration lucid and engaging. The concept of jins and vampires is very new to me. I haven't read any such fantasy fiction. I can't wait to finish the book.
