Can an alien warrior who’s afraid to lose save a human woman who’s afraid to trust?
No one has ever valued Lauren. Betrayed by both her father and her ex-husband, she has learned to keep her head down and live day to day. When she is saved from a vicious attack by a strange horned being, she wants to believe his promise of safety - but how can she?
T’saran’s once promising career in the Yehrin fleet was destroyed when he succumbed to the lures of a manipulative female. Now he is assisting with the preparations to invade Earth in the hope of regaining his lost honor. But instead of completing his mission, he is compelled to save a fragile human female. He wishes only to rescue her - but his commander has other plans.
Can T’saran give up everything for a chance at an uncertain future? Can Lauren find the inner strength to help them both?
Alien Selection is a prequel to the Alien Invasion series and can be read as a standalone romance. Warning - this sweet and steamy HEA contains an attempted assault and is intended for adult audiences only.
I would've given this one star, but... He calls her my lady and if that isn't the cutest nickname ever used, then I don't know what is. I would've giggled and blushed like a schoolgirl if someone ever called me that. Also, I quite liked Lauren's (the FMC) personality, which doesn't happen often, although I would've preferred if she didn't took the possibility of a massive, breeding oriented, alien invasion as lightly as she did, because that concept seems extremely terrifying, especially for women who will not find respectful, tender mates like she has in T’saran. I would've fought with my nails and teeth for those women during the upcoming war, instead of being so naively hopeful.
This is a short prequel to the earth invasion series, and although I didn’t find it boring, I just find the authors style of writing not to my liking really. The story was okay, but the ‘my lady’ and ‘my monster’? Really? And I really didn’t like the heroine too simpering for me. And the hero, well he had his own problems trying to come across as an alpha warrior but was far from being one.
UPDATE: 31st of May, 2019 | With Review | Trigger Warning (Minor spoilers)
I received a free copy of this book from BookFunnel.
This was an enjoyable read. The book started out very bleak, very depressing. We see Lauren about to head home from work. And immediately we know Lauren has never lived a life without abuse. She knows what it’s like, inside and out. She had never been treated like a human being by the opposite sex so she’s wary of them.
So the literal Hero coming to her rescue was her saving grace. Even though she was wary of him initially, she was taken by him quickly enough. A possessive and protective Hero is exactly what she needs.
In terms of relationship-wise, it developed at a fast rate. I don’t think there was much of a conflict. It’s honestly a feel good romance that you’d really love to read before bed. It’s short and simple and has a HEA.
Trigger Warning: Attempted rape. It’s a very graphic scene that occur in the beginning when the heroine was walking home from work. She was grabbed by two perps, her nipple twisted, her chest area slashed. That was when the Hero saved her. The language used might be triggering for some so be careful with that.
Just OK - very short, rather depressing story as the characters are either mean or downtrodden. The h is saved by the H, but he's not anyone's saviour. The story is very short, with so many opportunities missed to write a great story. No creative solutions, the characters were weak at the start and weak at the end. Disappointing.
I liked this one because it was sweet. But the author says in her note that it’s to show what happened before the invasion ... but it doesn’t really. It was still a good read though.
The story starts out very dark and scary when the heroine is attacked and almost raped ... and then saved by the very alien hero. The heroine, Lauren, has not had a good life, abused by her father and ex husband. She has learned not to trust men. But this alien is very different.
The hero, T’saran, is everything that she is not used to. He's gentle, and protective of her, and very possessive. He knows that she is meant for him from the moment he saves her life, he just has to convince her that she can trust him. He had had a very promising career until he fell for the charms of a woman who used him. Now he's on mission in preparation to invade earth. But the mission is not honorable. His commander has other plans and they involve Lauren.
Can he give up his chance to regain his honor and save her and will she trust him?
It was a quick and enjoyable read and I can't believe I waited this long to start this series. I really like the hero and the heroine. It was short and sweet and dark and sexy all rolled into one.
So I got this book a week ago, but I decided to wait until book one was available just because I wanted to binge on them both at the same time, and HOLY S**T That was the best decision EVER because let me tell you
This book is the prequel of the Alien Invasion series by Honey Philips. I have to disclose I love every single book I have read from Ms. Phillips and I don’t see that changes any time soon, but back to the review. T’saran is a tight spot. He made the mistake of trusting the wrong female a long time ago and that destroyed his career, now he has a new assignment and a unique opportunity to regain his honor by helping the Yehrin during the invasion of the new planet. His mission, to kidnap a female for the Yehrin to examined. The problem is, his commander is not on the straight and narrow, and when T’saran bring a female he rescued to the ship his commander wants not only to examine but to experiment and ultimately breed her, Which goes against everything T’saran believes. Now he needs to make a decision, does he risk everything he has accomplished to have an uncertain future with this human female?
I stumbled across Honey when I had finished another authors books. I have been on a bit of a sci fi romance blitz. Just something to get lost in other than the norm. Where you can do what you want because it is sci fi.
Trust me you will not be disappointed. I enjoyed this one so much that I am now working my way through all her books. Gotta love Kindle Unlimited.
I can’t wait to see where this series goes! What an interesting intro to a new series! T’saran, a Yehrin warrior, has been given orders to collect a human female for Commander T’ngorzul. The commander appears to me to be a sneaky, conniving fellow, definitely not a by-the-book guy. Not someone to be trusted. Lauren is a lucky woman - T’saran came to her rescue. It’s heartwarming to see her blossom from someone too afraid to stand up for herself into a woman who can take action in the face of adversity. I love these two as a couple! They’ve found what they need in each other and are unafraid to live their lives unbound by the expectations of their different cultures.
Fantastic prequel novella in an all new series by the fab honey phillips.
We meet Lauren and t’saran an alien invade sent on a dubious mission that ends in rescue. I cannot wait for the first in series releases and to dive in!!
Great prequel to a new series, Alien Selection introduces the reader to a new alien species and gives some background to the Alien Invasion series. Well worth the read time. Enjoy!
This is my first Honey Phillips book, but far from my first alien book. Alien Selection is the prequel to a series about, you guessed it, and alien invasion of earth. T'saran is a Yehrin front runner to their invasion aboard a ship captained by a...less than reputable commander. The book is about his adventure with the woman he saves when he is sent to capture a specimen to test humans for breeding potential.
The story basics aren't new, but I think Mrs. Phillips does a good job of working it. T'saran is an honorable alien put in a bad situation, but he perseveres and you can't help but root for him from the start. Lauren is a sadly abused and neglected female character who, though she doesn't shine by any means, does a good job of balancing T'saran and fits the story well.
The book is short and to the point, there is some sex (steamy), a small amount of violence, and an attempted assault scene (in case that's a trigger for someone). The romance is quick, but as it's a short, it's a given and well done. My favorite part of this book is that she makes her aliens actually look alien rather than just slightly larger humans like most. I will likely continue with this series.
The Yehrins were about to do the first test to see if there would be compatibility between their race and humans: kidnapping a human woman to impregnate her. T'saran was responsible for this mission. However, as soon as he came down to Earth, he came across two men cowardly attacking a woman at night. While defending her, T'saran realizes that she was injured and takes her back to the ship to be examined. Regardless of the mission, he immediately felt that that female was his mate. He just needed to find a way so that no other male on the ship would come near her with breeding intentions.
Lauren had been abused throughout her life. Her father never treated her kindly, allowing her to marry a man after high school who had no patience with her and mistreated her. At work as a waitress, she was also invisible, and during the attack by the two men, she discovered that her boss had sold the facilitation of her attack at that time. With no one to lean on, what would she have to lose by putting her trust in a male from another planet, strong and with horns, but who seemed to respect her more than anyone before?
This short book is the prequel to a series. 3 stars
OKAY. (<--That's me shouting with excitement. Because ALIENS!) Earth is on the cusp of being forcibly invaded by aliens, only it doesn't know it yet. YIKES! As part of the advance scouting mission, T'saran is tasked with finding female subjects for his commander to run preliminary tests on.
Yeah, T'saran, that's doesn't sound sketchy at all. Just go grab some poor women off the streets and hand her over for tests and experimentation.
While he does set out to do just that, T'saran has a bit of a conscience under his horns. Which is fortunate for Lauren, really. He saves her. He brings her to the ship for medical treatment after her attack. He's...not really okay with putting her in the hands of his commander and the ship's doctor.
So he takes matters into his own hands instead. As one does. And EVERYBODY (except maybe the captain) ends up happy. Well, as happy as they can be when an alien invasion is coming. Aliens, man. RIGHT ON.
Lauren has never been valued by anyone especially not her father and ex-husband. So she keeps her head down and just exists day-to-day. When she is saved from an attack by a mysterious horned being she wants to believe his promise of safety, but can she? T’saran once had a promising career in the Yehrin fleet but it was destroyed when he succumbed to a lying female. Now he is assisting with the preparations before the invasion of Earth in the hope of getting his honour back. But instead, he saves a fragile human woman and his commander has other plans for her. Can he give up everything for the chance at an uncertain future and can Lauren find the inner strength for them both?
I enjoyed this novella which was a reasonable introduction to the series. I liked that he was honourable enough to save Lauren and that he then recognised (but fought it thinking that it was false) his attraction to her before he finally gave in to the pull between them. I loved that he knew what to do in order to make sure they were both safe. Easy to read and understand. Contains some sexual content.
This pro.I see to be another excellent series by Honey Phillips. Strong male warriors , sassy females in need of true love and devotion and a smattering of action and adventure with a huge dash of passion and love. That's what you get when you read one of HP' s alien abduction romances. This is the story of Lauren and her warrior T’saran. Lauren has only known abuse at the hands of the men in her life. On the way home from work one night she is attacked by two strangers. Enter T’saran a warrior from another race sent to retrieve a female specimen so that Earth women can be tested for breeding compatibility. He sees Lauren attacked and his mission goes by the wayside. All He wants to do is save the female his heart has a!ready claimed as his. Mistakes happen, feelings are hurt and loyalties are tested but love wins out in this HFN . I hope to see both of them in a future story💖
Intriguing enough introductory novella that I think I’ll continue with book 1. But story development was just ok, verging on meh. Lauren has been abused by first, her father, then by her now ex-husband. She’s poor, waitressing at a diner, and about to get raped by two men when T’saran (a Yehrin alien who is a warrior) saves her. He was sent on an exploratory mission to retrieve a human female for testing to see if they are compatible for breeding.
Of course, Lauren is T’saran’s L’chka (a fated mate, or something it seems) and the two quickly bond. T’saran is, of course ordered to “breed” Lauren, or she’ll be given to another crew member so thus you get a little bit of alien-human sex and pretty much in the next scene the couple are escaping the Yehrin commander ship for Earth to go into hiding until one year later when the Yehrin invade to take over.
Let’s see what happens and if Lauren and T’saran get a better ending.
I mean… you want to read a sexy alien erotica romance novel in an hour or so? You are not going to get much better than this.
Has all the stuff u need. Damsel in distress Huge hunky alien we can trust Alien junk we all wanna try (or at least look at) He does all the things that we want done plus feeds you He saves the day while finding you the hottest female in all the universes
Did I know where this was headed from page 1? Yes. Yes. I, did. But I enjoyed the ride and it was relatively angst and stress free to get to my HEA.
I read this book out of sequence, not knowing it was basically and prequel to the Alien Invasion series. So having Lauren and Tsaran pop up in the Alien Alliance book I was curious to find out about them. Quick read in an afternoon, but always well done and well developed by the author. Don't know if I missed it in both books, but am curious as to how Tsaran evades punishment for going AWOL in order to protect Lauren. Even with that question in mind, i think while I read this via Kindle Unlimited, I still think it worth anyone's time and $$ to read this book and series.
Intro to a whole new alien series. T’saran is an alien warrior sent to take one human female to be tested on. He just didn’t expect to also be saving her. The romance in the story is different for each of the two main characters. Instant for one and slow build for the other. But with danger around the hotness heats up fast especially with a big handsome horned alien warrior around. This is a fast and short story to get you ready for the series. Plenty of adventure, romance and hotness.
This is a short and sweet romance to begin this series. Lauren has not had good experiences with men because of her father and ex-husband. When an alien with horns, named T'saran, saves her from being raped , she is unsure if she can trust him. He takes her to his ship then she learns what he is supposed to do with her. Lauren is T'saran's mate so they make a plan to escape from the ship and it's evil commander and doctor. Their escape is successful
Good start, decent premise, real perceived connection between the two main characters, lots of heat; but the ending just seemed rushed and then the epilogue a bit anticlimactic. Still, for an intro to this world, it wasn't bad. I'd be interested to perhaps read more in the series and see if they are any better.
For ages 18+ Alien Selection is quite short, but has a lot of information. If all of these horned aliens are as thoughtful, protective, patient, and sweet as T'saran, Earth men have no chance. Huge plus that their eyes glow purple! I can't wait to read book one. This book makes the series sound amazing, hopefully we get to see glimpses of T'saran an Lauren in the future.
T'Saran and Lauren meet when he is tasked with abducting an Earth woman for breeding compatibility test prior to an invasion of Earth by the Yehrin. Lauren is T'saran's mate. Now, he has to protect her from harm, but how? This is a short story that introduces the Yehrin and explains why Earth is so important to them. A quick and informative read.
Boy meets girl, they fall in love, live happily ever after. Who cares there's a nasty, mean boss making evil plans for Lauren? Or that Lauren's ex-husband left a bad taste in her mouth? Or Earth is going to be invaded by aliens? Oh, did I mention the boy is very tall, is gray, and has horns?
A prequel before the series but a true short story packed with with just enough to encourage more. Lauren's experience with family and trust is not a positive one. And finding herself with a strange alien who only wants to see to her protection is not what she expected. But can unexpected circumstances help her to change her thoughts on the future?
This was a great book! A wonderful start to a series that I can't wait to read! Our hero is sexy and intriguing! Strong and loyal. I think I am in love! It was a quick read but really.set the mood for the rest of the books! I can't wait to explore and learn more about our new alien males!
This was so good and fun to see the origins of the series I already love. This was almost perfect, but for me (an infertile woman) I like to see a pregnancy or baby in the epilogue. It’s why I love fiction! Always a HEA even when it’s impossible. I’d have liked that. But I know there are lots of ppl who dislike pregnancy in their romance so this one’s for them.
