Amazon showed it into the YA category, I'd definitely think it's suitable for middle grade and up.
The story is fast paced and the characters are interesting enough to keep my attention all the way.
However I thought it was just a bit too shallow at times, and could have used some more pages to give more depth to the world and the characters.
All in all a fun read, a perfect quick bite for those days you don't have the energy for a big chonker of a book, or something very complex. So if you need a little break and a cute mini dragon, this is a nice option.
A new series in the world of Dragon School and Dragon Chameleon – and again with an adorable dragon, just a baby this time but we can sense he is meant to be great, and a courageous heroine with a faithful sidekick. This series seems to have all I love and I can't wait to see what lays ahead!
A cute little tale about a lost little dragon and a kind hearted young princess in hiding. There isn't a lot of depth here, but it's sweet and entertaining for what it is. The characters certainly have potential and I liked the idea of elemental dragons - the blue dragons being water based was a nice touch and the idea of telepathy between dragon and human, whilst done frequently, is introduced well.
I'm intrigued by the world in all, and if there was a full length novel I'd likely bite. Unfortunately the entire series - and indeed universe - looks to be made up of novella's, and Wilson has not persuaded me that she is able to pull enough depth and background into this format of writing. It's a shame because the writing itself is clear and paced well. This would perhaps work as a short set in between full length novels to flesh out the universe and character backgrounds... but as it stands, I can't help but be disappointed.
I was overjoyed with adrenalin while I read this epic adventure. Had me hanging on from the first word till the very end.
Great development of characters & plot. Loved this heart warming tale of a dragon and the call of the sea. Can't wait to read #2. Thank you Sarah for sharing this story with us all.
Such a cute story. Seleska was rescued by a gold dragon when she was little and raised on a remote island. She discovers a baby blue dragon and decides to protect it, but blue dragons are particularly feared by the islanders, so she has to keep it hidden. Worse, a ship has come to kidnap Seleska. Why are they after her? And what will she do with her dragon?
This was a well-written, fast paced entry into Sarah Wilson's world of dragons. Seleska and her friend Herron were interesting and entertaining as was the baby dragon. I look forward to seeing where their adventures take them.
I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author and have reviewed it willingly.
An amazing start for a new series. New people and a baby dragon. Seleska, the adopted orphan in a small village, Heron, her best friend and blacksmith, and the baby dragon, Nasataa. And the Ending of this book? Well, you better get it. Can't wait for the next book.
this is a great start to this series! Fast paced you will be hooked from the start, has a great storyline and best of all a baby dragon! Can’t wait to read more!
Dragon Tide: Dragonlet is the first book in Sarah K.L. Wilson’s new series. The author introduces readers to a new character by the name of Seleska. Blue dragons are feared on her small island, and because of this no one goes out in the ocean in boats. Songs tell of the dragons who destroyed the boats and lured sailors into the depths with their alluring songs. But when Seleska discovers a baby blue dragon on the beach all alone, little does she know that her life is about to change in dynamic ways. Dragon Tide: Dragonlet is a fast-paced story that keeps you page-turning as Seleska finds her world changing right before her eyes. It starts with an innocent baby dragon. She knows the danger posed to him by the village should they discover him. I absolutely adore how she takes to him and quickly their bond is established. I didn’t think that it would happen so fast. I appreciate the fact that she doesn’t let the fears of the village concerning blue dragons taint how she feels about the one she finds. The author wraps quite a few surprises into this book and I love it. There isn’t anything that I don’t like about this book. I briefly get annoyed with a couple characters, but it doesn’t detract from my enjoyment of this book. The story moves at a good pace and kept me engaged from beginning to end. Seeing as I am familiar with Sarah K.L. Wilson’s books/series I am used to the length and know that I won’t have to wait long for the next book in the series/serial. So I can say with ease that I am eagerly anticipating the continuation of this story and Seleska’s adventures. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you enjoy books by this author and dragons then you won’t want to miss out on reading this engaging story.
TITLE: ‘Adventurers [don’t] stop just because things [are] ...scary. That’s what [makes] it an adventure!’
I loved this new book! Yes, it is the 1st of a new series, but it also has tie-ins with the previous series “Dragon Chamelon”, and is a sequel to the heart-breakingly sweet story “Worth a Dragon”. In ‘Worth’ we saw a self-sacrificing dragon fly an orphaned little girl, Seleska, to a island to protect her from those who had murdered her parents. In this book, the opening scene is of Seleska on her 16th birthday, with a “surprise” party being prepared for her. Before returning from the beach, she finds a new hatchling, a blue dragon, something the people on her island fear. How will she care for it, yet keep it a secret? Once again Ms. Wilson has created a wonderful coming-of-age story with elements that appeal to all ages: the budding of young love; a desire for adventure; the finding that you are more than you thought when faced with the challenges of life; the good in the world vs evil that is also present; and, of course, dragons!

I received a free copy of this book. My review is voluntary. I have no financial relationship with the author or the publisher.
Author Sarah K.L, Wilson brings us the opening chapter of a the Dragon Tide saga with Dragonlet. Seleska who is a princess of a far away land found herself on the shore of her village ten years ago. Now on her sixteenth birthday she finds a small blue Dragon. The Blue Dragon's have been known to sink ships which is why the fisherman of her village only fish from the shore. Her best friend and appurtenance blacksmith Heron helps her hid the little blue dragon from her adoptive parents. Her father tells her that he is taking her and her friend to the major city on the island on the day after her birthday so she can sell her shell jewelry and her friend can join the blacksmiths there. But while they're there a boat which has been forbidden to the island nation has docked and shoulders come ashore. This causes Seleska to flee into the ocean with the small blue Dragon with her. These events being Selsaka's adventures and I'm looking forward to reading what comes next in the series. I highly recommend this book to all Fantasy fans
Hooray, Sarah K. L. Wilson is out with a new series! Hooray it had dragons (as she’s a master at stories with dragons)! Hooray, it’s set in the world of her Dragon School and (recently completed) Dragon Chameleon series! Really so much to cheer about with Dragon Tide 1: Dragonlet. Another great heroine in Seleska. A tale of actions (good actions her, saving an innocent dragonlet) and world-shaking consequences. And (of course with this author) great storytelling thanks to a superbly written plot filled with well-crafted characters. Hooray indeed. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series (due in about 18 days).
A good start to a new series (for me). A rescued girl, adopted by a village, in turn rescues a baby dragon that she finds on the beach before her birthday party. Now promised a trip to the large city she is astonished to find a ship there. Not having seen one before she draws closer leaving her father at an inn and her BFF to start his new blacksmithing duties. An attempted abduction leaves her jumping into the sea, closely followed by the baby dragon. Can she get away from the men trying to capture her? Even if she does, will her home come under threat from the ship's cannons? What can she, her dragon and BFF do to save the village and the villagers? The characters still need a bit more substance but the way is paved for this to happen in future books.
I had read 'Worth a Dragon' a while ago and didn't realize it was a prequel. Well, it was and what a great follow up in 'DragonTide'! Things have come full-circle for Seleska and her past is catching up to her.
As with all of Sarah's series, this book sets the stage for what I'm sure will be a totally enjoyable tale. Seleska is thoroughly delightful and her 'friend', Heron, is devoted to her--the makings for a sweet love story. Maybe? Her little blue dragon, Nasataa, is stubborn and I'm sure he will give her some headaches in the subsequent installments.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has already been introduced to this world of dragons...and to anyone looking for an enjoyable series that practically 'reads itself'!
This is a new serial. Short episodes. And I loved it! Seleska rescues a baby dragon, but gets in a lot of trouble! This story is a few years after the short story ‘Worth A Dragon’ in which Seleska gets saved by a dragon. I loved Seleska, and I loved her dragon Nasataa.
I listened to the audio version. I had to get used to the voice of the narrator, but I always experience this at the start of an audio book; English is not my first language. But her voice was pleasant and the story amazing. Soon the story had me captivated, so the voice served the story. Just over two hours, so a quick read (‘listen’).
This author has the gift of really taking you on a journey, on an adventure, making the world disappear. Can’t wait for more!
This book kicks off the next aventure in the dragon school world. It was almost easy to forget it was set in the same world until the Dominion was mentioned towards the end.
For a Dragon School book, this book was a weak start, I felt. There were some elements I didn't like and despite being a short novella, I even felt it was a bit slow paced to pick up.
This book, ofc, introduced our characters, but I felt our main protagonist was a little too perfect. We have a princess whose family was masacred and who finds she has a special ability to breathe underwater. Furthermore, she stumbles upon a baby dragon who decides she is the one that will care for him. Meanwhile, she is protected and loved by the village she grew up in. Idk, it just feels a bit Mary Sue-ish.
However, as with all dragon school series, I love the absolute potrayal of the dragons. And I really look forward to learning about the blue dragons. Hopefully, the next book is better.

What a great start to a new series. Although it is set in the same world as the Dragon School series, it is separate (well so far anyway). Seleska found a baby blue dragon on the beach. The people of the island would kill it on sight if they knew about it, as they were terrified of the Blue Dragons, as they sank ships and boats - all of them. Seleska forms an immediate and close relationship with the dragonlet - closer than she could have imagined. When a ship of men from somewhere else turn up looking for a missing princess, she finds that it is her they want and she has to escape. The dragonlet helps her in her escape.
Sometimes, we gotta sink the ship to save the world. A cute tale with some valuable life lessons. I’ve also read some prequels to this (below) and look forward to more in this series (next is ‘Dragon Staff’) and others by this author.
*First Dragon Rider (Dragon School #0.5) Choose your crew wisely ‘Someone need not be your friend to be your ally. A shared danger makes friends of us all.’ I once heard a pre-teen say, “A friend stands up for you; a true friend stands up to you”.
*Worth a Dragon (Dragon School) Don’t believe half of what a gutter-diving Purple tells you. Fave line: ‘Promises should be said out loud.’ This leads into the ‘DragonTide’ series.
When Seleska finds a Dragon egg she is delighted when a baby blue Dragon hatches. Natastaa is so so cute. However this baby Dragon will change her life, put her in danger and make her grow up .. fast. A trip to the market results in her fighting for her life and that of her Dragon. This book is very short and the first in a new series from a talented author. However with a new book every eighteen days this is a very expensive series. Once you have read the first one you will want to know what happens next. A good start but lacking something compared to her other series.
Book One introduces the reader to a young girl who lives on an island. She appeared there an orphan, a gift from the sea. She has been adopted and loved by the islanders and has little thought of her origins until a ship appears intending to take her, by force if necessary. She discovers a special ability, and a baby blue dragon, both which work to keep her safe from the intruders. Reading this will surprise and entrance you. Now onto Book Two...
Seleska, Heron and Nasataa save the day This was a great book by a wonderful author. It has a lot of excitement. It starts with Seleska turning 16 and talking about how she hates surprises. The next few days are full of them. The characters are amazing. The storyline flows nicely. It was a story that was so interesting that you could not put the book down. I can't wait to see what happens next to Seleska, Heron, and Nasataa. They all care about their community and are determined to make sure everyone is safe. They view saving their friends and families as an adventure.
For ten years Seleska has lived among the people of Havenwinds, the islanders have been going to her, so why does she feel the need to save a baby blue dragon? All the tales say they sink boats and are not to be trusted, yet Seleska saves this baby. Going to the port of Abergande to sell her necklaces gives her the reason. She saved Nasataa , so he could repay the gift. Follow her story as she realises who and what she id , and how she escapes from those who want to take her away A brilliant read for all ages.
Seleska is celebrating her 16th birthday and she finds a baby blue dragon. She isn't happy to learn her friend will be leaving their village soon. Things go kind of crazy once she and her father visit Abergrande and they find there is a ship visiting. She and the dragon, Nasataa are on the run, and she is determined to keep him safe, as well as her village. Seleska seems like a good kid, I can't wait to see what happens next.
An amazing start for a new series, an adopted child uncovers portions of her mysterious roots and forms a bond with a creature feared by her village. This captured my attention quickly and it was great immersing myself into Seleska’s adventure. The elements of danger keeps you guessing but this tale is still subtle enough for young readers. Definitely have to keep this new series in mind for my grandchildren! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
Dragonlet is a really nice beginning of a new series set in the Dragon School world. This time we have a girl that was adopted and lives on an island with her foster family. Her village is afraid of Blue Dragons. Is that a true caution or just a prejudice of them? What is the truth? Who Selska really is, will she discover the truth about her origin? Or all that will be lost in one event? I can't wait to read the next novella in the Dragon Tode series!
Dragon Tide is a brand new series by USA Today bestselling author Sarah K.L Wilson. I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC. This story starts out in a friendly tone as it's first person narration by the orphan princess Seleska. She wants adventure, but she gets way more than she bargained for. It's fun with a hint of romance. I actually squealed out loud at the ending and can't wait for more!
Another great book for a fabulous author. Seleska and Nasataa a new dragon partnership, totally enthralling. There are mentions of the other characters in the other Dragon books by this author, best of all this is the little girl rescued in the fabulous tale Worth a Dragon. I’m going to thoroughly love this series. Highly recommend.
Seleska was rescued by a dragon as a young child, so it's only right that she takes the baby dragon she finds on the beach under her wing. She didn't count on the dragon bonding with her or the intruders to her island that are searching for her. She certainly did not know the peculiarities of her bloodline until they were forcibly shown to her...
A great start to a new series !! Who doesn't love stories about dragons and this one the main dragon is a baby. Saleska, we learn from the start was rescued when she was six years old by a gold dragon and taken to a village to be kept safe. We watch as she finds a baby dragon and starts on a adventurous journey throughout her world
Seleska is a 16 year old orphan girl adopted when she was 6. She finds a baby dragon on the beach and a mutual bond develops. Hilarity ensues as she protects the mischievous little dragon from those who would kill him. I like the action and humor. I am downloading the next episode now.
