i dont usually rate sequels.

But i just finished reading this light novel and it was by far the best in the whole series. It was exceptionally interesting with so many twists that were both unexpected and completely foreseeable. A great ending that resolved most questions and hinted at future storylines.

The light novel had gotten a bit stale, with the main character’s adamant refusal to do anything significant the past few volumes. This doesnt disappoint.

It was also written in such an interesting manner with a damn good premise.

Spoilers from now on

The premise was simple. The class votes who they like and who they dont like. The person that is most unpopular gets expelled. 🤩.

It is probably the simplest premise out of all the volumes in the series, yet required the most strategy and revealed so much about the characters.

Anyway im a sucker for anything i can relate to and a high school setting is mega relatable. Im also a sucker for unreliable narrators and good unexpected foreseeable twists. I know thats a fine line but this book delivered. I kinda knew what was gonna happen but was still pleasantly surprised. 5 stars. Best out of the series.

I was so excited for the ending i read for almost 5 whole hours today.

It’s good.

The more capable someone was, the humbler they were. The more incompetent they were, the more arrogant.

This volume was full of tense emotions, not knowing who is keeping their word and who is going to betray them. The first supplementary special exam is way more heartbreaking and cruel than I initially thought (the anime made it more look like a big school drama than a class and friends trying to keep eachother from expulsion).

Three characters showed a new side of themselves, but only one surprised me. Sakayanagi was one of them and I liked her interactions this time with Ayanokouji. I know that they are enemies and there is an invincible wall between them, but for whatever reason I was so happy to see how Ayanokouji is showing once more his true feelings and that he is also considerate towards his enemies.

Hirata was so kind and every time he tried to find a solution for this supplementary special exam was so depressing to read about, especially as I was this time able to see his inner monologue and since I knew what was about to happen it felt even worse to read all of this. I like how mature Hirata actually is, as he might only appear to be mature since he is the class representative, but he actually shows it this time as he takes full responsibility for his own actions.

After Manabu confronted Suzune I once more realised how much Suzune actually developed in this short time span of 1 year. Even though Ayanokouji is humble and would say he didn't do anything for Suzune to develop into a better version of herself, I'm certain that 'cause he was the one who helped her out in difficult situations that she got the room of improvement. She certainly developed on her own too, but I think without Ayanokouji she wouldn't have started as she needed a little push to even realise her flaws.

Even though this exam was even more tense than the others as it required you to betray eachother, there were still plenty of moments (mainly to Ayanokouji) that were wholesome and showed support of one another. I think due to Ayanokouji being a good manipulator he manages to get a new 'friend' even if they just had a slight exchange. But I can see that even though he says he uses everyone as his pawn, he still cares for some of his friendships.

I think writing about a characters development is quite hard so I can't imagine to give a lot of characters one, but Syougo Kinugasa seems to be able to do it and since I see no logic gaps I can't but praise this writing style. I already noticed before that many writers do the mistake of giving each character a stereotypical personality which thereof lacks depth, while reading this book series I realise even more now that quite a lot of people do this mistake.

Slight spoiler (just the section below)
In case you watched the anime: You probably remember how Ayanokouji tried to reach out for Sakayanagi after the new acting director (Tsukishiro) pushed her cane of her hand, making her fall, right? In the anime Ayanokouji WASN'T able to reach Sakayanagi as the new acting director pulled his outreached hand away from her. However in the light novel Ayanokouji WAS able to reach Sakayanagi, holding her for a second before the new acting director attacked Ayanokouji, making him unable to keep his hold of Sakayanagi, thus making her fall.
As Sakayanagi gave him that polite advice, Tsukishiro, still smiling, kicked her cane out of her hands. The unexpected action naturally left Sakayanagi unable to react, and she started to fall.
“Whoa!”
I rushed over and grabbed her to keep her from falling. In the next instant, a large arm came swinging right at me. Since I was holding Sakayanagi, unable to dodge, I took the hit, doing my best to absorb the impact.

Sakayanagi even thanked Ayanokouji for trying to hold her, but the anime probably cut it out since the anime didn't even show him holding Sakayanagi even for a second. That's (for me) a huge disappointment as this small scene was (for me) quite important, especially to display that Ayanokouji can show emotions (which the anime failed to show).

MY FAVORITE VOLUME
The plots twists and all.

The test was interesting to see the different types of reaction in the classes.
For class A it was quite logical in my opinion, but with Sakanagani you never really know. We finally knew why she wanted Yamauchi to leave, I was dead, just because he made her fall aha (I didn't like him either so kinda happy). For the B class, Ichinose, still determined to save everyone. I really thought that she was going to be forced to accept the agreement with Nagumo (WHATS WRONG WITH HIM BTW?? the agreement was so creepy jeez🫥) and I'm so happy that in the end she made an agreement with Ibuki.
Class D, I was almost sure that Ryuen was going to be saved somehow but I didn't think with this strategy, it was well done.
For the C class. Ayanokoji played well, I love how behind the scenes he manages to predict and arrange everything in an efficient way.

Hirata? Well, he lost his mind a bit, I don't know how I feel about these positions. It's pretty stupid to have wanted to propose himself but it's in the spirit of the character i guess.
The ayanokojii group is cool, I like them.
Horikita is slowly evolving and she finally talked with my brother.

Plot twist with the director, it was unexpected and that he is attacked sakanagani and ayanokoji in front. Really looking forward to know more about ayanokoji's father and his childhood basically.

ps: it's crazy how everyone wants to mess with ayanokoji who just wants to live his quiet life lol.
ps X2: why did ayanokoji take the picture of hirata to send it to Kei¿🤨

in short really really good !

This is my favorite volume (so far). There were so many plot twists and great character moments. The special exam specifically designed to expel one student of each class was quite interesting too, and I'm glad that's what caused everyone to snap and show their true colors.

Hirata- This man truly snapped. I got chills when he snapped at Horikita and even threatened her in front of the whole class. Even Ayanokouji was shocked by it (and that's saying something). That aside, I've always liked Hirata (probably will always like his character), but when he finally snapped and acted cold towards Horikita, Yamauchi and even Koenji, I loved him even more. It shows his complexity. That he's not just a happy optimistic ray of sunshine or whatever.

Even though he later apologized to Horikita and offered to sacrifice himself for expulsion, I'm still satisfied that his character went beyond him always acting as the classes' mediator. It was nice to see him show some other emotions for a change...

Sakayanagi- I was beginning to think she wasn't as manipulative as everyone claims. But then she effectively fooled Yamauchi and somewhat fooled Ayanokouji. She had some great moments in this volume.

Also, her choosing to target Yamauchi because he had bumped into her once was such a petty reason. But I'm glad she chose him because I never paid much attention to him anyway.

Ichinose- This girl was literally going to hand herself over to Nagumo...all for the sake of her class. If that's not loyalty, then I don't know what is.

Seriously, though, she's more clever than she looks. I still remember when she called Ayanokouji and Keisei out last time during their fake out phone switch during that one exam...

Horikita (Suzune)- Her development has been great, but now it seems to be at a standstill. She still needs to work on communicating better with the rest of the class.

She also needs to rekindle her relationship with her brother. These two are so...strange. She clearly idolizes him, but it's like she's forgotten he's her brother... they should really talk soon before he graduates.

Horikita (Manabu)- He needs to talk to his sister...they're both at fault for this. I'm tired of Ayanokouji acting as the mediator or messenger between them. It's honestly pathetic and sad.

Ayanokouji- Acting as the behind the scenes manipulator once again. I missed reading the unreliable narrator side of him.

Not surprised he barely reacted (even in his inner monologue) when Kei told him he was being talked about in class as a possible candidate for expulsion. Nothing fazes this man...

Yamauchi- This idiot. He truly believed Sakayanagi loved him. I felt sorry for him, but his pathetic "exit" (if you can even call it that) made me glad he was expelled.

Ryuuen- There's got to be a reason why Ayanokouji saved him. Ayanokouji himself wasn't sure why he wanted Ryuuen to stay...

Classroom of the Elite Vol. 10
By Syougo Kinugasa

Fabulous volume. So much twists and turn in this volume. Probably gotta be one of my favourites. There's no fighting sequence or big showdown here, but it still packs a punch.

From the blurb:
" The school has decided that every class needs to do a special test, every class needs to choose 1 person and the chosen one will be expelled from the school.

Class A already knows who's their choice. Class B is trying to decide who's their choice but Ichinose wants to save this person from being expelled so she tries to make a deal with Nagumo, he agrees under the condition that Ichinose goes out with him, this is going to be nasty for him. Class C is a disaster, and they don't know what to do. Besides, there is a traitor in the class. Class D wants Ryuuen out of the school."

The exam is quite a forcing move. Expulsion is unavoidable unless you have 20 million points. The starting of this volume is slower but builds up the tension perfectly. The subtle conversations brought different points of view.

This volume had plenty of twists and plenty of underlying tactics. Ayanokoji and Sakayanagi's ingenious plans and traps are always fascinating to read.

The development of Ichinose and Ayanokoji's relation was superb. Ichinose is such a sweetheart. Her backstory, though, somewhat okay, the affect and the later interactions were magnificent.

The ending, or should I say the climax of the volume, was just superb. Yamaguchi was getting what he deserved, and the results were shocking indeed.

8.8/10

One of the best volumes!

The solution they managed for Ichinose and Ruyen is pretty insane. Happy to have them left and relatively happy at least.

Can't wait for the final exam.

The Class Poll special exam is so good and I can't even really explain why it just feels so compelling. An expulsion in each class is going to be forced within the first years and they have to vote for who deserves to leave. There's the looming reality that Ryuuen is going to be expelled due to his class's dislike of his former methods before he gave up, there's Ichinose's class who can't bear to lose a member and so Ichinose has to make the choice to get a loan of points by entering into a relationship with Nagumo, and Sakayanagi who says she's going to expel Katsuragi to finally take down the last remnant of opposition to her faction. Class D in particular has the conflict of Yamauchi getting the entire class to vote against Ayanokoji, which is revealed just before the exam leaving it certain that he is going to be expelled instead. Ishizaki and Ibuki come to Ayanokoji to possibly save Ryuuen from being expelled since they know their class will fall without him, and so they use the remaining points Ryuuen had been saving to give to Ichinose who no longer has to give up a student or date Nagumo. Sakayanagi instead expels Katsuragi's follower and spares him because she knows he won't resist anymore. Everything about it is so good and I love the book. It's definitely in my top 5 in the series.

I have had a theory about the advanced nurturing high school since this volume and I'm going to hint at it here.
There is a designed effort to try and make classes less cooperative and helpful to each other, the tests - all of them - are designed to try and make people value the self over the group. And this years group of First Years has drastically fought against that working together to keep everyone in, so the school is just going to break the rules and give the first of what I'm guessing is going to be annual amounts of fuck you's to the students in the form of the second worst test they've taken (up to now) and that's the Class Voting one.

A stupid stupid STUPID idiot doesn't notice something in this volume and will later do something irredeemable when this test shows what they are, the IDIOT isn't capable of putting 2 and 2 together and realising "oh yeah, thats the evil person I know who keeps saying they want to do this. Wow, that's a shock to me!" (we're nearly there now) but it's a fun story and one that highlights that maybe there's reasons for the rules being what I think they are.(he totally deserved it as well for what he did to her)

4.5 out of 5 stars

I loved all the twists and turns! The rules of the Class Poll were fairly simple and it looked as if there was no way to get out of this test unscathed. I enjoyed how it played out in all of the remaining classes. There were already predetermined candidates for each class... or were they really?

Side note: I don’t know what to feel about Suzune and Manabu’s relationship. It’s so cold, I can feel the chill from here. I thought Suzune would have at least some confidence in herself and less of seeking her brother’s approval. Suzune’s character is a bit hot and cold for me right now. It feels as if her character development didn’t exactly... develop. There’s something off about her recently, especially with wanting to make Kushida her friend.

Anyway, I cannot wait for the Sakayanagi vs. Ayanokouji face-off in the next volume. I’m also interested in how this Mr. Acting Director is relevant or what his further moves would be.

omg i almost never write reviews but oh well, i'm gonna give it a go now.
This exam has been, by far, one of the hardest ones yet for the class. It took an extreme mental toll on almost everyone on Class C. I will not say i was surprised that Yamauchi got expelled due to me reading spoilers (huhu sorry T_T), however it surprised me how quickly and efficiently the situation turned on him. Kiyopon once again surpasses my expectations with how far ahead and thorough his plans go and are.
Btw Ichinose catching feelings oh god...
Mmm Nagumo is still a bitch for wanting to form a relationship with Ichinose (CREEP 100%) so i'm glad he didn't have his way in the end lol
OH mystery person at the end oh noooooo. I wonder how someone wanting to expel Ayanokouji being the Acting Director will affect future exams tbh. Somebody gotta let my mans breathe for a few months rip

Damn. This is a must read.

A banger of a volume. I can't go into much details because spoilers suck, so the short version of post is to just experience it for yourself.

We're presented with yet another special exam, but this one is unlike anything we've seen before. Who knew you could create such a complex setup with such simple rules?

This is actually the first time I predicted what was happening before the reveal, but I feel like I should have seen it sooner. Nevertheless, the amount of twists and turns in this volume is insane. It's ending sets things up beautifully for the next volume.

I think this might be my favourite volume in the series so far. And best of all, I have a feeling we haven't seen nothing yet!

Altough it was quite packed I find myself thinking i enjoyed the previous volume more. perhaps because of our bias to judge things mainly based on the beggining and the end and disregarding the middle as the end of the last volume was awesome. Anyway i feel we got to see a lot of strategies behind the scenes by every leader and more. The relationships too. While we are at that I was cringing so hard with Yamauchi and Sakayanagi interacting. Dont get me wrong it was great but i just couldnt imagine Sakayanagi being like this and Yamauchi falling for it so hard was also ridiculous. We also had an exciting apperance of tsukishiro which is definitely going to be interesting. Overall I liked this volume quite a bit. I read this volume in one day so that speaks for itself.

This volume of youkoso jitsuryoku follows class D and many other classes during the special exam of voting someone out for expulsion. It is the first time a person is going to get expelled from the class and the school forcibly put this special test on the first years because they weren’t getting anyone expelled for a very long time. This was one of the more exhilarating volumes because there were lots of unexpected happenings and betrayals. In the end Yamaguchi secretly made an alliance with Sakayanagi and got expelled because of his low contribution to the class and ratting them out. He even tried to expel our main character Ayanokouji as planned by Sakayanagi.

Just when I think this school (Or our very society) can't get more fucked up, we get the whole "We are forced to vote someone in our class to be expelled" plot. It's sick. And it's only because the school is forcing it, making it into a game to train their little elites, that makes it even slightly palatable.

Well, either way, it just underscores how deeply disturbed we all are. Read this if you want to hate humanity.

Nearing the end of the first year, something has happened which has never happened before. Nobody has been expelled from first year classes at the Advanced Nurturing High School. So a supplementary "special exam" is placed upon them. Each class has to vote for someone in their class to expel, someone to keep and someone from another class to keep. Rivalries, backbiting, plotting and twist ensue.

I don't want to say a lot more about what actually happens because it was just so much fun to read and see how things developed. Looking forward to volume 11 when it comes out!

Now this was quite intriguing. Plots hidden within plots revealing one after another. Always in a cutthroat situation making me want to immerse in the story more and more. Who is playing who was the ultimate question, I kept asking to myself. And at the end it turned out everything went as planned and a satisfactory ending with a massive cliffhanger.

Volume stupendo.

I'm reading the whole book while thinking about how I wanted everyone to befriended Ayanokouji. He just seems so... lonely.

‌And, so, the "Ayanokouji vs Sakayanagi" is about to come down, huh. I just want them to be friend at the end, tho😬

definitely the best one so far. "the enemy of my enemy is also my temporary ally" thing is my JAM. i really hope they continue in this vein. ayanokoji can't stay "neutral" forever and it's nice to see him actually DOING THINGS. you know. as the PROTAGONIST.

Great volume. We get to see the intellectual prowess of the actual overpowered character, Yamauchi. That was pretty funny. The new bad guy seems to have been introduced, he's pretty scary. Only 2 volumes left for the first year, almost there!

Okay this one was fire 🔥

The exam. The expulsions. The mind games. The manipulation! Okay I hate manipulation and definitely don't encourage it, but in this fictional story this hyped me up. The horikita siblings dynamic with nagumo goes hard for me!

Christian content: none.
