Mira has hated Tallius from the moment she watched the War Gods Beta kill her pack’s own Beta. The War Gods attacked in the night and annihilated her pack, and while Mira has grown a lot since that day—even working her way up to Beta status in her new pack, the Fury—memories of Tallius still haunt her. She’ll have to hide her fear and use every ounce of her newly acquired Beta skills when she’s forced to meet with him at a secluded location to discuss a possible pack alliance.
Tallius knows Mira hates him, and he knows he deserves every ounce of her loathing. She thinks he’s a monster, and maybe he is, but something in him is determined to make her see him in a different light. She’s seen the worst of him and believes that’s all he can be, but she’s wrong, and he’s going to do whatever it takes to prove it to her. Their Alphas ordering them to a mutual meet is the perfect opportunity for him to show Mira that he’s not the monster she remembers.

“Alright!” Tallius threw his hands up and muttered quietly, “Why does everything have to be a fight with you?”
“It doesn’t.”
“Yeah”—he plowed a hand through his hair—“it does. From the second you pulled up in your army-green sports car”—lifting his hands he made air quotes around the words army green—“you’ve been nothing but a challenge.” Whipping his head around he narrowed his eyes on the car as his face lit at something. “Wait! Is that why you drive a Challenger?”
“Jesus!” Mira rolled her eyes and turned back for the cabin. “You’re impossible!”
“Mira! Hold up!”
But she didn’t want to hold up. Nope, she wanted to change out of her winter weather gear, get into some traveling clothes, load up her suitcase, and try like hell to get down off this mountain. At this point, she wasn’t even averse to skipping her two weeks at the ski resort and heading straight back to Fury territory.
“Why you dressed like that?” Tallius asked from behind her. “Wait! Were you . . . were you coming to look for me? Were you worried about me?”
His teasing tone pissed her off mostly because she had been worried. She didn’t tell him that though. She didn’t tell him anything. Nope, she just stomped her way ungracefully back to the cabin as her boots slipped on the snow and ice.
Halfway to the cabin, the silence of the mountain was interrupted by a great rumbling noise. At first, she thought it was Tallius grumbling behind her, but the sound was heavier . . . bigger. Stilling, Mira’s head lifted as she strained to listen. Behind her, Tallius’s feet fell silent too.
Mira heard the noise again, and it had an eerie feeling pressing up against her skin. All the fine hairs on her body stood on end as she tried to place the rumbling.
“What the is that?” she snapped as the sound grew louder. It sounded like an army was pounding down the mountain toward them. Head whipping around, Mira pinned Tallius with hard eyes. “Is this an ambush? You set me up!”
Tallius was frowning at up the mountain too. “Please!” he snorted by way of denial, but his eyes suddenly shot to the front of the cabin. The porch swing started rocking, and then the earth started trembling, and the whole cabin started to shake. “What the...
My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.
I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)
Please leave feedback….well, only if it’s positive. “Keep in mind that I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit! (Erykah Badu lyrics!)

This author has really outdone herself with this series. Each book is centered on a over the top alpha male and the one woman who stands up to him for her right to be his equal. I especially enjoyed this couple. Neither one of them knew how to meet in the middle, but with some help from their other halves they were able to reach their HEA. The intensity and emotion in this story was fantastic and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I would've given this read five stars because it's well written, but missing a lot and has too much simultaneously. There's way too much angst and woe is me filling the pages. The read is good, but not great. There's only one emotion it evokes, depression because the characters are depressed. I don't want to feel down 99% of the book, and then suddenly there's an HEA that you get NO time to enjoy before the book ends. A well rounded read evokes everything. Laughter, tears, joy, fury, and sappiness (I know it's not a word, it's making a point).
This is the second book in The Spoils of War series. The novel is a standalone and can be read as one but it does fit in the series. Tallius is the Beta of the War Gods Pack. Mira is Beta of the Fury Pack. A meeting between the two Betas to form an alliance starts this story off right at the beginning. Since Tallius (Tally) and Mira have a previous history, this makes for an interesting and intriguing novel!
Both the hero and heroine were a bit of a tool until they started to be honest with one another. This book was more of a love story, with very little action. There was a good hint about the next book, which intrigued me more. A secondary character, Briar, got my deep sympathy, and I hope her story is next.
As to be expected from this gifted author, this was an amazing read. I was hooked into this book from the first page. Susan has such a way of creating characters you fall in love with and I so can not wait for her next book. 2 thumbs way up.
I really liked this book a lot. This storyline has all those things for making a good read. Hot males and strong women winning them over. Can't wait to read the next one
He was so patient. He cooked. He cleaned. He took care of her when she was hurt. She gave him a hard time. She had a hard time getting over the killing of her old pack. I can't wait for Matese and Briar. I feel bad for Aydin. He needs a mate.
Love your books. They all bring me to another world where I can disappear from reality for a spell. You need to focus on doing another Spoils of War book. This time on Reign. Looking forward to it! (Hint hint)
It’s edgy and hard, and pure alpha in places. Mira hated Tally with a deep passion and I honestly couldn’t imagine them making it work, but boy is that male determined! And it won him his pretty wolf but what a battle that was.
Spoils of war 2 was even better than the first one if thats possible! I really enjoyed reading tallius's and mira's story. Will be re-reading on a rainy day.
I just fell in love with both these characters... I could not put this boom down, and I loved the story line... I just love Tallius . I can not wait for the next book
Great story and I loved Tallius. I empathized with Mira but wasn't my favorite of characters. I think he went above and beyond for her and there was little reciprocation. Still, looking forward to the next in this series.
I was really looking forward to reading Tallius and let me tell you that it was worth the wait. A terrific shape shifter paranormal romance with some hot hot hot bits.
