I am an independent author writing about fictional lesbians of all varieties.
My writing journey began with fan faction, and as much as I LOVED being part of a community of super fans, I got tired of working with other people’s characters to tell my stories. I started asking myself: Why should we string together pieces of subtext when our community deserves well-developed main-text about LBGT people and those who love them! So, that is what I aim to deliver.
If you want to know a little more about me personally, J.J. Arias is my pen name. I do have a day job, and due to the industry I’m in, I can’t write under my given name. Although who knows, maybe one day I can write full-time and come out of the … office? I am a Scorpio woman (I know, I know, but I’m a nice one I PROMISE) happily married to a uniquely wonderful Cancer lady. Together we have several fur babies of the feline and canine varieties.
So, here I am, and I hope you enjoy my writing! I’m very open to thoughts, comments, critiques, and knock-knock jokes, so please feel free to message me with any of the above – or anything else you would like to say!
An enjoyable follow up sequel, On Kindle Unlimited.
The story continues with Erin in danger and taken from Lucia, and both of them desperate in their desires to find one another. Plus the addition of some new badass characters.
I found it action packed and mysterious, I just enjoyed the ride and the women's commitment to the cause. Against a crazed Mistress leading a cult who wants to dethrone our Queen Vampire, Lucia.
All in all, I just found it an enjoyable romp and look forward to the third and final installment.
The first book was a solid five star read for me, but this one unfortunately did not quite hit the same mark. I still enjoyed parts of it, but a good chunk (at least 60%) felt like drawn out filler, mostly there to stretch the story into a second book. Personally, I would have preferred a tighter plot with fewer detours, even if that meant longer first and second books.
I just wanted to read more about the two main characters I fell in love with in the first book. Instead, it felt like I was given this wonderful love story and then had it taken away for nearly an entire book. Erin and Lucia spent about 95% of the story apart. I get that the separation was meant to build tension and drama, but it dragged on for far too long. Considering Lucia is a literal billionaire and Queen of the vampires, it did not feel believable that it would be so difficult for her to track down the information she needed to find Erin.
That said, I did enjoy the development of side characters like Charlie, Cari, and Althea. They were definite highlights. I just wish their arcs hadn't come at the expense of Erin and Lucia’s romantic storyline.
I am still planning to read the next one because I am invested, but I am hoping for more focus and momentum next time.
Also, a small but recurring frustration I have mentioned before and will probably keep bringing up: authors, please stop putting characters on the covers who look nothing like how they are described. It doesn't matter how cool or aesthetic they look. If I have spent days or weeks reading about these characters, I want to actually recognize them on the front of the book.
This is the second installment in the series and I’d highly recommend reading book one first. Book 2 picked up right where book 1 ended with Erin having been kidnapped and Lucia reeling from the loss. I honestly couldn’t put this one down because I needed to know who The Mistress was and what was going to happen with Erin. There were two strong subplots working with Charlie and her pack and Althea and Scarlett that helped to make the whole book more engaging. This was a fun read and I’m looking forward to book three.
Book two was hard to push though. I get wanting to dive into the supporting characters and back story but when the support becomes too overwhelming and takes away from the main characters it doesn't work. I'm happy for Charlie and Bo, Althea and Scar but I need Lucia and Erin.
How are you going to have 25 chapters and have them reunite at chapter 24? I know there's a book three but this still didn't cut it. I'm still waiting on you to show me why Lucia is feared, why she's so respected, why she is Queen you've yet to show her been just that sure she had a few moments in this book but not enough. This book lost sight of the main goal and gave view of the supporting characters you even had Althea doing more that Lucia which is nonsense.
And after all that built up of the Mistress it's just that whamp whamp end? I seriously hope book three brings into focus everything show us why Lucia is Queen I want to see her rule with Erin alongside her and I hope Ximen live to see the mess he created and grovel at their feet
Since this is the second book, I won't bother withholding spoilers here.
The first one is better, but this was also an awesome roller-coaster of a ride. I wouldn't categorize it as romance, and maybe that's why I would rate at 3.5 stars while the first one I would say is a 4. Erin and Lucía spend most of the book apart, and that made the journey less fulfilling. After Erin is kidnapped, this proved like the perfect opportunity to know more about the Queen of the Vampires.
In the first book, we only get to know the parts of her Erin discovers during their time together. Little is known about how Lucía came to be a Queen or why she is so feared or why she is considered the strongest vampire. I thought that would change in the second book, but not so much. Lucía is impotent throughout most of the book, chasing clues that mostly don't pan out... if it weren't for Tracy and Cary, she wouldn't even have found Erin at all. However, it was greeeeat to read the part in which she gets to the bunker and breaks the barrier at the cost of great physical and emotional pain, and kills a bunch of people effortlessly. It felt so effortless that after a whole book hating Eloise almost as most as I hated The Mistress, she died in mere seconds after meeting Lucía. There is a brief line in which Erin manifests her wish that she'd been the one to kill her, but that was it.
In the topic of side characters, since Erin and Lucía spend most of the book apart, this became more of an ensemble. In addition to the Queen and Erin, we also jumped back and forth between Charlie's and Alethia's POV, while Cari, Gail and Pete were also featured prominently. Alethia didn't grow on me at all, and I mostly skipped her parts... but I loved Charlie's journey! Can't wait to see what book 3 brings her. Bo is a delight and I hope she makes her very happy.
I read Tracy's novelette before starting the main trilogy so as soon as she showed up in the cult, I liked her instantly. The way she got closer to Erin for the sole purpose of protecting her and being a friend to her made me like her even more. I hope we learn what happened to her after she left the bunker.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention how vast and interesting the world created by the author is. From Cari and Erin's magic to that fantastic sequence in which Charlie finds her wolf... I loved it. I hope we get to see how Erin will interact with her ancestral spirits now that she's a vampire. And I sure hope Lucía and her don't spend too much time apart. They are wonderful together! Bring on the wedding! I'm ready!
PS.: I'll add to my list of wishes that Lucía kills that cockroach Ximen.
3.5/5

3.75 stars, it had been so long since I read the first book, I forgot what a cliffhanger it ended on. Erin, human consort to the vampire queen Lucia is kidnapped, by a group of crazy cultists. Lucia was betrayed by a member of her inner sanctum. Lucia, will stop at nothing to get her girlfriend back. Meanwhile, she must figure out who betrayed her, how to track down her missing paramour, and deal with warring factions of the worldwide vampire community who now are all pushing the boundaries to see what they can get away with.
Charlie, a loyal werewolf who was released from her bound service to the queen, is taking her Grandmother's ashes home to the pack land she's never been to. She's tasked with performing the funeral rites to bind the spirit to the ancestral lands. She meets Bo,who agrees to help her since she's clueless with pack affairs. Bo also introduces her to the shaman since her wolf spirit is splintered leaving her unable to change at will, or remember her time as a wolf during the full moon.
Also, we're introduced to Lucia's old girlfriend Alethia, who agrees to help her route out the traitors. She goes undercover & meets Scarlett, a punk agitator.
Meanwhile, Erin's dad Pete & girlfriend Gail are trying to find her or get turned by any vampire to assist in the search, despite Lucia stating their advanced age makes them unlikely to survive the process.
So much action, but the book seems to drag a lot through the middle, it's hard to rate it any higher. Although, you have a few couples to fan over. I'd like to see spin offs in the future on them.
This book again seems to end on a crazy cliffhanger, so be prepared.

I'm so disappointed in Addy and I hope Charlie never finds out what her grandmother did. It'd be great to see Charlie with her own pack though, she's cool. I'm curious to see how Lucia and Erin's relationship progresses and based on the ending I'm hoping for book three to come out soon for more about the Dusk Queen series.

An aspect or character that grew on me from this second book was Chari. Overall, this was another captivating story although the ending felt more like the New dawn film to me.
This was a great continuation from book two! It was also nice to see more of Charlie’s story, love werewolves! Especially sapphic 😍 And see the sides of Alethia. Great book, I’ve really been enjoying this series. Tandem reading with Audio, Kingsley Rose is *chefs kiss*
This books written in third person with multiple POV’s. Vampires, Werewolves, Witches and Humans! Continuation of book twos cliffhanger. 4x spicy scenes (2 have minimal description).
This was amazing! A real page-turner and again, like the first in the series, I couldn't put it down! I loved the character development from book 1 to 2 and the story had me engaged enough to immediately start the third installment! Loved it.
Romance takes a little step back in the second book of the Dusk Queen series, but the action and the suspense make it even more interesting. It felt like I wasn’t reading it as fast as I wanted it because I was eager to discover what would happen to Erin and Lucia. Some elements surprised me, and I loved how we got to follow more characters like Charlie, who was one of my favorites in the first book. Sunset Fallen was a great sequel.
This book was a bit all over the place. I didn’t care much for Charlie and Bo dalliances except for when Charlie found her wolf. The same goes for Althea and Scarlet buzzing. I truly like Cari and her witch counterparts and would prefer to understand more. You painted Samael as a traitor but didn’t let us in his head, then in the end he was referred to as one of the good guys trying to help. He was there from the beginning and so why his supporting role didn’t get any highlight? I still don’t know why the queen was feared, maybe it’s cause she is a badass fighter but far up her arse above everyone else that even rare matters like with the elephants she discarded to her general to deal with. I hope she is a better queen in book 3 which no doubt I’ll start in a few minutes. Overall it’s a good read but a far cry from book 1 which was way better.
This novel was a LOT better than the first one in this series, although still not without some issues. I feel like the writing was a lot better, the story flowed more coherently, and the characters made more sense. This novel had a solid ending that wrapped up (almost) all of the loose ends. We got to get to know the characters a lot better this time around, although still not as deeply as I would like. All together I would say these two novels were a decent read, although maybe not worth the number of pages it took to get there.
One thing this novel did incredibly well was juggling a lot of different plotlines/POV’s. This is very easy to get wrong and do poorly! The story ping-pongged around between several characters and the author did an amazing job of keeping everything clear and the reader (mostly) engaged. This novel had a lot going on.
I liked Tracy a lot.
The downside for me on this one would be the plot, in a few ways.
The sequal to when dusk comes. God I loved this book so much. I enjoyed every aspect of this book while reading it. It was so well described, flawless and absolutely exciting. The characters were so well developed and you couldn't predict anything that happened in this book. I loved the fact that there were so many different characters and their own stories that were written during different parts of the book. Like with Charlie and Bo, they were so cute and I look forward to the sneak peak of the plot where maybe Charlie becomes pack leaders when she returns with Bo. I also really loved reading Alethia and Scarlett. They were so fucking hot and their banter was no joke. The spice that was between these two characters was absolutely mindblowing. I look forward to reading the sequal which looks like it will be even more interested, riveting and phenomenal than the first two in this book series. It looks like Erin and Lucia will have to deal with new problems: vampires being exposed to the outside world and having to deal with the original vampires. I'm glad that they will be able to be together in the sequal after being apart in the book for so long. Their love only continues to grow and that was fully shown when they were apart from each other. I loved their reunion scene and I can't wait to read more about how Erin adjusts to being a vampire and fighting alongside Lucia. These two are soul mates and they've waited all their lives for each other. All in all I can't wait to read the next book with all the new adventures our characters will go through.
This book is a lot darker than its predecessor, and a lot more action focused, but that is to be expected. Lucia has been betrayed, Erin kidnapped by the organization who have been pushing for her abdication, and as much, her blood. Things are not easy, and getting back together even more so. Especially for Erin, where just surviving may not be easy.
This story does branch out a bit more, focusing as well on some of the other main characters as well, such as Charlie, what lays before them, and what they have to go through. After all, they are part of the weave of the story as well, fundamental in how it plays out.
For all of the anxiety and worry for the characters, seeing and feeling their pain in what they go through, there is also a lot of growth and love. Seeing some of the characters become who they were meant to be, and pulling through.
Just as for the previous book, it is an enjoyable and engrossing tale, quickly consumed. It is heavier than the first, its pacing slowed a little by all of the pov's, but still definitely worth the read. Just note that, like the previous book, it ends in a cliffhanger.
The Dusk Queen series has fast-moving and action-packed books that take the characters on a long journey. This book picks up where When Dusk Comes ends and the story continues on. The end of the first book left Lucia’s group devastated and Erin kidnapped by a vengeful enemy set on revenge and power. Erin has no idea where she is and Lucia has no idea how to find her. The identity of Erin’s kidnapper is left as a mystery until more pieces of the story come together. It’s a big world with a lot of moving parts happening simultaneously.
By the end of the book, much is revealed, though much is still hidden, and all of the characters still have quite a long journey in front of them. Kingsley Rose continues to perform this series and she has a rich narrative voice.
“‘I know what I want, Lucía. I want you,’ she said softly. ‘I want you, and only you, until the earth stops spinning and we both turn to dust.’”
Heroine: Lucía Guerra Heroine: 28 year old Erin Lewis
After the crazy ending of book #1 I could not wait to get my hands on what happened next. Erin has been kidnapped by an unknown enemy. The queen is prepared to move mountains to save her the love of her life. Well it kind of was down hill for me. I didn’t like was that a bunch of other side characters took away from what I really wanted to read about. I kind of got the expansion of the world to set up the final book, but I really just wanted Erin and Lucía not everything else that was coming my way.
I wanted to get this book read because I wanted to know who the mistress was.
Now, I just have to say Alethia… she’s the best character in this series, she has personality, edge, sass. Good additions.
I’m glad we learnt more about Charlie, she’s got to be my favourite character, and Bo… I’m happy with Bo.
A little like the last book, some moments were over very quickly. When Lucia finds Erin, and comes face to face with Helen, it’s over so quickly. I was expecting Lucia’s infiltration of the compound to be difficult, with more casualties.
I preferred this book to the first, and look forward to the next.

Book 2 in this trilogy (?) is written differently than book 1. I had to concentrate diligently to keep track of the multiple characters and story lines. The great writing, the incredible characters, and the awesome story kept me hanging in there. I'm so glad I did! If you enjoy complexity in your books, wow this is for you. The brain has to adjust at the speed of a vampire to keep up sometimes. Again, a cliffhanger but not as bad as the one at the end of book 1. So for he it's on to book 3 because I just have to know what other situations our two main characters are finding themselves in ..... and all the "main" side characters too.
As the book 1 is my favorite, this sequel is a little bit lost for me. Too many characters had arrived, and the story plot got so boring. I just wish that Erin still a human and possesses a power that will help the Queen. Too fast and confusing. And why Pete and Gail had turn? It was emphasized that they're too old, and who's that kid that Helen has been hiding? I know that there's 3rd sequel, but man, this plot went south. Lucia was a strong character, and in this book, she became irrational and unattractive.
Absolutely loved this sequel. Yes our two main ladies may be apart for a majority but watching the two of them fight to get back to each other was fantastic. I loved the introduction of new characters I found myself wanting more of their back stories. Alethia was my favourite sassy with a hard edge and oozing sex appeal. I loved the familiarity she had with the Queen and how they were together. Charlie's storyline was fantastic and I loved seeing her with her own kind. The ending was amazing and I cannot wait for the next book to come out very excited to see how this universe plays out.
Just finished J.J. Arias Dusk Queen series on audio. It was brilliant! Book 1 is full of sweet spice and romancing, while book 2 is thick on the drama and develops side characters so brilliantly. Book 3 gives us another plot twist but also the perfect HEA for MCs and side characters. Another fantastic series from this author and Kingsley Rose smashes the audio once again! Definitely worth the listen. 🤍
Another great paranormal story with Lucia , Erin and friends plus enemies. From start to the last page it flows. J.J.zzz Arias did another awersome job writing this , cannot wait for her next book in this series. Definitely recommend this, if you haven't read the first then do, I'd worth it. 5*** STARS
After a whirlwind of search and rescue find Erin and Lucia reunited, thanks to the efforts of everyone they know and love, they barely get a chance to catch their breath before they are summoned by the Original Vampires, once thought of as a legend only. Sunset Fallen was the test by fire of Lucia and Erin’s love. What challenges will Book Three bring?
