This book is packed full of great information and diagrams of techniques, to help both the novice and the experienced knitter. There are project patterns throughout the book to help build skills and use the techniques. However, there are no pictures or illustrations of the projects themselves (hats, scarfs, shawlette, leg warmers, etc). This seems to be a major flaw to me....worse than cookbooks without pictures of the recipes. Especially for the beginner (but really for anyone, and especially in the internet age when visuals are so common), not being able to see a photograph of what the project should look like or what the stitches should look like within a project is quite problematic. The book touts extra content online, but I was not able to find pictures of the all of the projects (with the exception of a few of them which appeared in Ravelry). This also assumes reliable internet access of the reader, which not everyone has (myself included). The beauty of the whole "dummies" series is giving people who have no knowledge of a topic the basics to understand it and run with it, so to speak. The lack of pictures of pictures in my mind means that this particular title makes it hard to see that purpose accomplished.

This is way more complicated than it should be. I was so confused. Went to YouTube and found a very helpful video that showed my how to cast on and knit in minutes and was very easy to follow. This book is going back to the library.
