Zoey, born into the preeminent Cardinal family as Katherine Cardinal, suffered many losses on her way into the Collins household. But she wants to put all that in the rear-view mirror. She's thriving with her life private investigating and bagging bail-jumpers. Recent edition to that routine, Cardinal Machines law enforcement android C001-Oisín -- Ocean -- blends at least as well into the mix as she does into his occasional S.W.A.T. team and F.B.I. assists. For the first time, she's starting to feel like she has a partner in crime. And it's hard to resist making her gorgeous prototype a passion project in her personal life... if that's even possible, though she's pretty sure from the anti-android sentiment on the rise in the U.S.A, it isn't.
Still, it's not easy to stop a runaway train. Throwing herself into her work is Zoey's answer, right up till the point where she runs afoul of an ignored missing person's case that Zoey Collins could never afford to take, but Katherine Cardinal, Missy Moneybags, sure could.
And the last thing she needs while they're working their way from ground zero to finding a missing girl, is a dangerous new wrinkle in Ocean's growing fame.

Some of my heroines navigate a haunted world. Six is spirit photographer for the leading ghost-hunting team in the world. Some search the streets for skips on Locate cases. Young Zoey Cardinal is partnered with hella powerful android cop, 1-Ocean. In my fantasy novels political intrigues meet old-world technologies, elves, warriors, and magic. Ora Buckmaster is a heroine of the cutting kind, fighting to defend a Stranger King from an inhuman race. The men in my works are powerful counterparts, competitors, allies, and peers as a result.
Zoey is working private investigation and catching bail-jumpers. Ocean works for L.A.P.D., S.W.A.T. and the F.B.I. He was working right now with handler Lieutenant James Ott and when he came home, he told Zoey he had won a bet. The Lieutenant bet that Zoey would destroy the house or set something on fire if Ocean left Noah and her alone. Both she and Noah were relieved that Ocean returned home unhurt from his latest mission. And neither Ocean nor Noah would let her help cook dinner because she always managed to burn or cut herself, even with a simple butter knife.
When Zoey and Ocean find a bail-jumper who is tied to a missing person case, they begin a search for her. Will they track her down? Will they find her disappearance is part of something bigger?
What I liked about the characters was how well the reader got to know them with the way the author had them interact physically as well as verbally. Zoey’s touches and small kiss on Ocean’s forehead let the reader watch his reaction to that. It was very interesting to see his responses. As for the story, I sometimes was not sure what was going on since this is Book 3 and I did not get to read the previous two books first (which I hope to rectify). But I did enjoy the majority of the story. Grab your copy and see what you think. It’s different but not bad at all.
Zoey and Ocean catch a bond-skipper and discover he's tied to a recently missing girl, who they start searching for. There are some really immersive and dark scenes in this book - and some really strong tension between Zoey and Ocean. I enjoyed the story quite a bit, though I'd been hoping to get a little more plot development about what's going on in Zoey's family too.
