This storyline is sooooooo good! I'm a grown woman reading this comic to my 6-year-old son and I've become so invested in these characters. I love the dynamic between Shadow and Sonic. I love learning more about the Chaotix. I feel like this volume is bringing more depth and personality to every character. It's entertaining and funny, and the art is so fun to look at. I can't wait for the next one.

I think this is the longest I’ve stuck with a run of Sonic since my childhood which is both surreal and nostalgic. Reading this new(er) series gives me that memory of when I’d eagerly await new volumes every comic shop visit with my dad.

Anyway, when some of the most upbeat characters get serious… you know it’s getting risky. I’m still loving this plotline and the mini focus on Team Chaotix at the beginning was great!! I love everyone’s unity even as we bring in teams that rarely work together. Also Omega continues to be one of my favorite characters in this franchise.

“INSTALL A JAW MECHANISM. I WILL BITE THEIR ANKLES OFF.”

Looking forward to what comes next!! This robot virus is definitely reaching intense heights.

The Metal Virus gets even worse as Sonic and friends rush to evacuate - but with Sonic himself infected, time is running out even faster than he can run.

I've not read a lot of Sonic comics, but these are a lot darker than I ever expected to read. The sense of hopelessness and worry are at an all-time high, and the Resistance really don't seem to be winning anywhere. The subplot with Doctors Eggman and Starline is interesting, especially given that it seems like it'll give Sonic two problems to deal with instead of just one, and it's fun for Sonic to have an enemy that he can't beat by jumping on their head till they give up. Surprisingly deep stuff.

I like the way Tails, Sonic, and Amy are portrayed in this series. They seem more realistic to me and have good character development. (In the ArchieComics they were also portrayed nicely, and I’m kind of sad those comics were discontinued)I wish shadow wasn’t cast aside and infected though, but at least he’s smarter than the regular zombots. Technically that’s not good for Sonic, Silver and the others, but I’m glad he’s set apart from other zombots.

I wish Ray and Mighty were part of this series though. But I do like Tangle and Whisper a lot.

A really well paced zombie story told in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. Forcing Sonic to fight something he cant physically fight is a great idea, and everyone gets a moment to shine, whether they're plowing through Zombots (Omega), or reacting to the chaos around them (Charmy and Cream). Clearly part 2 of a bigger story, but I am fully unboard for this. Bring on part 3!

short series review: The 2017 IGN reboot reunites the Archie Comics team of artists and writers, breathing much-needed new life into the Sonic franchise after the events of the Sonic Forces video game. Some new elements and characters were hit or miss, but overall, it's a joy to see the gang back together. Series review to come!

THE METAL VIRUS HAS BEEN UNLEASHED! THE MAIN CHARACTERS MUST NOW DEAL, WITH THE ZOMBOT INFECTION! Cream, Vanillia, Cheese, chcoloa, and Gemerl have been introduced.. and man way to make an introduction, they are amazingly written, and it shows just how much the chao will protect their owners.
The chaotix are greatly written, with charmy being taken out in the first story. Jesus.. it is brutal, you don't see any blood, but seeing charmy being swarmed around and grabbed on all sides by zombots is.. horrifying.
Shadow is.. oh jesus, Fuck it I hate this rendition of shadow. Shadow isn't this stupid, he wouldn't do this if he was written like the adventure games, but those DAMN MANDATES, I fucking hate them, I get shadows an OP character, but this is just copying vegeta, and not even that good! Shouldn't shadow have taken off his inhibitor rings? or started running like sonic? Shadow IS the ultimate lifeform so he should be able to run without getting tired.. oh well, sadly that bumps this book from a 9/10 to an 8.5/10
And Sonic! Sonic is actually getting tired, he might be rethinking his actions. But back on that tired stuff, yeah we've never seen sonic get tired before. And In Issue 20 you can see LINES under his eyes?! what?!?!?!??! no way dude, no way. This is greatly written aside from Shadow
The art is fantastic as usual, the art for Issue 19 has an anime feel to it even.
8.5/10, a nearly perfect Volume.

Shadow
I love it when my favorite characters are in mortal peril. It made sense why he would be upset with Sonic, though his "I told you so" get canceled after he gets infected. Shadow thinking the virus wouldn't affect him as the ultimate life form makes sense since he's supposed to not be affected by illness, but the metal virus isn't really a typical virus. Still, I feel like he wouldn't have remained so stubborn after seeing the virus starting to infect him. And why wouldn't he take off his inhibitors if he really knew that he was in a boatload of trouble?

Rouge

She had some good moments, some funny and some character-wise. "Thank goodness for these noble, self-sacrificing types!" I like how she started to take charge, using the excuse that she had to do it to protect her high-class living. And the show-don't-tell reaction at Shadow getting infected shwoed that she really cares about him, despite calling him an idiot (rightfully so, to be fair).

Omega
Omega had some really funny moments in this volume. "We are not friends. You are in the way of my massacre." "Install a jaw mechanism. I will bite their ankles off." It was sad though to think how quickly he turned against his Team Dark teammate Shadow after he was infected.

Rough and Tumble
I loved their hijinks, especially their growing anger when someone steals their "thing." I wonder how Tumble lost his tail.

Hi everyone! It's Ariel here, and I’m super excited to tell you about an awesome book called "Sonic the Hedgehog. Volume 5: Crisis City".

In this action-packed story, Sonic the Hedgehog faces one of his biggest challenges yet. Dr. Eggman has come up with a terrible plan to take over cities by using a Metal Virus that turns people into Zombots, which are like zombie robots! Sonic has to race against time to stop Dr. Eggman and save everyone. But it's not easy because even Sonic gets infected by the virus!

The story gets really intense as Sonic tries to fight the infection while also helping his friends, who start turning into Zombots too. The adventure is full of twists and turns, and you never know what will happen next.

I loved reading this book because the action never stops, and the illustrations are super cool. They make you feel like you’re right there with Sonic, running at top speed and fighting the bad guys.

My favorite part was when Sonic found clever ways to outsmart Dr. Eggman and save his friends, even when things looked really bad. If you love Sonic and enjoy exciting adventures with lots of action, you will definitely love this book.

"Sonic the Hedgehog. Volume 5: Crisis City" is a thrilling read that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Sonic’s adventures!

Happy reading!

whyyyy did u do this to shadow sir?? he vanished for a long time and came back just to show up for a few pages then get turned into a zombie??? wtf. hes not an edgelord

i like silver he doesn't show up until the end cuz he got injured earlier but he has a moment where he's genuinely serious which i liked. tails is too helpful i like him he's got this virus thing down (hopefully)

why is it that sonic never gets injured? like can he take a break being the mc you know? sure he's sort of infected but it like means nothing he didn't even accidently change someone which I thought he would which I would've found interesting. like what if he turns tails then silver has to take over the research in his place like-

I'm liking this eh but this one was mostly action and no progress really being made. I didn't realize they were in color until I read this on my computer lmao

its fine its fine but still- why shadow?

A pretty intense story as we see Team Sonic trying desperately to fight the Zombots as it spreads from city to city and Sonic and his friends slowly losing ground. It is kind of interesting seeing Sonic is forced to keep running when he gets infected meaning he cannot help as much as he would usually in fact the more he helps the faster his infection spreads. It is also nice seeing some underused characters helping out like Omega and Gemeral. Their is a nice a sense of dread and we also see Dr. Starline is also losing a bit of faith with Dr. Eggman as he sees how he truly acts.

Shadow isn’t really at his brightest or most flattering here, which kind of sucks for me, but I really like the overall story. Very whumpy. And the art is growing on me. It could be because I’m playing Heroes atm, which is. not really the most emotionally complex game ever made, but I like how expressive Sonic is in this comic series, and how they make sure he looks more and more tired the longer the infection goes on.

Fun, although it largely flows from the previous volume. That is, I wonder if we needed all of these individual zombot attacks in which Sonic interacts with secondary characters. There's a fine line between making the story feel more epic and padding it.

Starline may be the most menacing villain in Sonic comics history. What if Eggman but focused and even-keeled?

Following the good relationship set ups in the first arc this arc had been really fun. I legitimately believe this is a group of people who are friends and work well together in their fields. I also adore omega and silver and sonic relationship in this and I appreciate how Amy and Rouge are being treated. I wonder when the big bads will get to angel island. 10/10 comic

It was okay… (spoilers ahead)

I enjoyed this one, but shadow being infected was… not the best.
I think the biggest issue I have with this comic is the portrayal of Amy. Amy’s usually a nice kind little character running around helping people in need. But in this portrayal it feels like this stressed mom, working at an office.

It’s so harrowing I couldn’t put it down but my problem is the story didn’t advance that much. I love that the individual issues have a story of their own while adding to the whole rather than one story cut up but this almost felt like padding and started feeling kinda samey by the end

This volume is quite depressing as Sonic and team are desperately trying to cope with the actions of Eggman from the previous volume. Not my favorite arc as the conflict between Sonic and Eggman seems very impersonal.

The stakes are increased for the current arc and it really forces characters to make hard sacrifices that have a lot of heart and emotion, some people might have issues with character writing but personally I love it!

Holy…crap. This volume was fantastic. This whole arc is super horrifying- but every character is getting so much detail and development! The twist and turns in this arc are unbelievable! I can’t wait to see what comes next! 5/5 Stars!

Some real drama starts getting peppered in here as supporting characters fall (although we know they'll all obviously be ok) and Flynn hits the emotion. The art team is fantastic and sells the fear and heartbreak at every turn. Fun action.

Yea this is basically a cheesy 80s zombie movie in the form of Sonic comic, and it works surprisingly well.
