With 350 plus million people struggling hard to cope with depression, across the globe, it's become a pivotal subject to change something that needs immediate attention. Depression has numerous layers that all come together to impact a sufferer, it's hard to describe or articulate into words. People are sad for so many reasons as we move forward embracing new phase of science and technology, many of us live an unhappy life. I certainly agree social conditions are responsible, including our thoughts and attitudes, we further distill out life either happy or unhappy for ourselves. Tireless efforts and advancements are being made in treating depressions throughout the globe right from spreading the word about mental healthcare via social media awareness. However, many steps still must be taken. My reason for writing this book is to express purpose of answering and clarifying the power of positive thinking.
Inderjit Kaur is an author, motivator with a powerful voice of spreading positive words through her writings. A highly influential blogger and inspirational guide who with her tag line ‘Keep smiling, keep shining’, has brewed up with the original concept of living through her books of A living series.
Name of the book - Back to Square One: A Living Series -Book 5 by Inderjit Kaur. Stars given - 5 on 5 stars and a big hug. My take on the book - As a person who have gone through a very bad phase of acute depression I can tell you this book is of a big help. It makes you feel like you are not alone and even if you are you can make happiness out of thin air by simply knowing who you really are as a person. There is this questioner that I have attached with my review and honestly this is bound to be of huge help. When I was going though my bad phase or as I like to call it my dark times, I had forgotten how to smile. For those of you who know me realize how impossible that sounds but it is so true. And I had a few people in my side of the ring who helped me battle the evil we all know as depression. Another thing that helped me was theatre, it took all my loud, over the top and unruley energy and made a constructive thing out of it. I know I am blabbing but this book has made me emotional. Ps I would love to point out that at few points the book could do with some editing but at heart this book is all gold. Wish for the day- Be happy without hurting someone's heart.
"The goal is not to change who you are but to become more of who you are at your best while facing adversities and life challenges!"
This book is divided into two modules. Module one talks about being aware, realizing, renovating the challenges, and restarting life, while module two focuses on actions you can take to make it happen - complete with exercises you can do.
Each chapter reads as a blog post. It feels as if the author is talking to you in a blog post rather than it being a book, the underlying technicality of a self-help book is absent, but I think that is why people will connect to it more. It isn't that evident in the first module but the blog style becomes obvious in the second. The second module has steps you can do, honestly, I write posts like these every day for my day job, so it wasn't anything revolutionary to me. Each chapter in the module comes with an exercise or a worksheet that you can use to apply the steps talked about in the chapter.
This is supposed to be the fifth book in the "A Living Series" that focuses on positivity in its core. All the books can be read independently. This book reminds you of what you most probably already know and - it being just 91 pages - is a quick read. I cannot stress this enough, but the blog feeling of the book was what made me finish it in one sitting.
This can be a good read if you want to read self-help that is not riddled with science and theories, just a simple discussion with means to make it happen.
My biggest complaint would be the formatting of the book. It looks like a pdf on my kindle, even my kindle identified it as an e-textbook rather than a book plus words were broken throughout the book making it difficult to read. The format needs to be worked on.
Let’s face it, there are myriads of self help books out there in the market place. Some encourage the ‘right’ foods or ‘proper’ exercise; lots are filled with people’s clinical back stories. But what I appreciated about Inderjit Kaur’s BACK TO SQUARE ONE, was its succinct and practical charts, along with the author’s promotion of the belief in oneself, even if you have to be brutally honest to do it.
Throughout the book, the author has placed various Daily Modules for the reader to start following. For example, Chart Your Progress of Self Esteem; Face Your Adverse Feelings; Imagine Positive Outcomes––along with your tendency to assume the worst; Positive Things to Do Today; Why You are Happy Today, and so on and so forth. For someone who is visual and prefers functionality over obtuse so called ‘wisdom,’ this book hit the spot! Definitely recommended.
This book is self help guide to move out of depression. It's a stepping stone out of that dark world. I can't assure you that you'll be completely cured from depression or anything, it's a guide to understand yourself and your condition better.
I really liked the book, it made me kinda emotional. It's a very beautiful book that is worth your money and time.
I didn't liked the cover but it conveys what the inside of the book holds. It's a goodie and will help anyone, even without depression, you'll feel the connection.
Back to Square One by Inderjit Kaur is an empowering self-help book that offers a practical and insightful approach to facing and overcoming life's challenges. This is my second book by the author, and once again, I am impressed by her candid and profound perspective on personal growth and resilience.
Inderjit Kaur, who has faced her own fair share of struggles, writes this book with the intention of guiding readers to confront their obstacles head-on and emerge stronger. The book is not just a theoretical guide, but a hands-on manual, encouraging readers to identify and assess their own strengths and weaknesses, and then channel them into productive energy for achieving their goals.
The structure of the book is well-organized into two distinct models. The first model focuses on understanding the challenges that we face in life, while the second model delves into the steps and strategies required to confront and overcome those challenges. This two-pronged approach is incredibly effective, as it provides both the insight needed to recognize obstacles and the actionable advice to rise above them.
What stands out in this book is Kaur's strong belief in action over manifestation. She emphasizes the importance of taking tangible steps toward growth rather than relying solely on the power of positive thinking. The author shares specific techniques for personal development that are practical and easy to implement. These actionable steps make the book incredibly valuable for anyone looking to make real changes in their life.
Additionally, Back to Square One demonstrates Kaur's deep understanding of human nature and the obstacles that we all face. Her writing is not just motivational, but grounded in experience and wisdom, making the advice she offers feel authentic and achievable.
If you're looking for a self-help book that not only motivates but also provides concrete tools for overcoming challenges and achieving your goals, this one is a must-read. Inderjit Kaur has once again delivered a powerful, practical guide that helps readers take charge of their lives and conquer whatever stands in their way.

I've read very less books talking about mental health so when I came across this one I picked it up. And this was quite a good read.
The author has divided the book into two parts. The first part helps to gain confidence and self esteem whereas the second part explains how can one come out of depression using practical points. The book contains whole lot of motivation and materials which may really work out for the needy.
The book is written in an easy way which makes it more relatable. Narration and the way of writing is also good. The author has kept it simple so that anyone in any mood can pick it up and get some help.
I'm very much happy the author picked this topic and made such enlightening points for everyone to understand. It also helped me in quite a few ways. One of them is ofcourse gaining confidence. Overall it was quite an enlightening read.
Rating and Recommendations:
3.5/5. Will definitely help you find solace and gain more confidence and will definitely soothe your mental health to an extent.
A motivational book with the purpose of spreading awareness about mental health and how to fight and win over depression. This book by Inderjit Kaur talks about various aspects of leading a happy healthy life, the most important being "affirmation". The ability to think positive about what one wants to achieve in life, even during the worst phases of your life. Leading a life of the same routine day after day, definitely makes the mind and body dull, seeing other people doing and achieving much more in life gives rise to negative thoughts, which, if not treated at the earliest might lead to depression. Social media is another major cause of unhappy, depressed attitudes of humans. For which the author repeatedly suggests to spend more time with your loved ones thereby avoiding social media as much as possible. This helps one to stay happy and positive, the key to fighting depression.
The book has 2 modules. The first one talks about the general aspects of mental health and illness which we all are aware of yet we tend to ignore them in our everyday lives. Reading this module acted as a reminder to inculcate all these thoughts into our everyday life, helping us to stay positive, realizing the importance of mental health.
The second module is based on a more practical approach. It talks about ways to overcome ill mental health and how to become a successful person in terms of leading a happy and content life. This module has some practice exercises to improve overall and notice the change it brings in one's life.
Though I have read many self-help and motivational books, this one stands out by the way the author has expressed and described the topic of mental health and its importance. She has successfully touched all aspects including, factors, causes, and remedies related to mental health.

Review : Back to Square One is a motivational book by Inderjit Kaur. This book have two parts ; first part is how to stay motivated during the hardest time and the second part is getting away with depression, whose sole reason is getting active with social media rather than having quality time with family and loved ones. The main objective of the book is to motivate the people who are going through their hardships and make them aware of spending time with the loved ones. Depression can kill anyone if not treated through mentally. To avoid these kindda things one should exercise on daily basis, avoid social media as much as possible and make time with family. The language is lucid and easy to understand.
This book aims to help you live a happy and stable life by answering and clarifying the power of positive thinking and the difference it can bring when you practice it diligently. This consist mainly the module one of this book. What the second module consists of is the action plan which is well laid out and extremely helpful to analyze oneself better.
The book helps you to evaluate what you think is most important in life and how to overcome the challenges about life in an easier manner.
Some valuable lessons I would like to mention are: Connecting to our inner self in order to attain stillness in life, Importance of having a balanced mind, Working earnestly towards your goal, Acceptance of bad times and apprehending them wisely, Adapting to your environment, Being self-reliant, Taking charge of your life, Smile and overcome challenges, Believing in yourself and having self- confidence are some of the limited ones I have mentioned.
The better part of the two was the second one which had exercises to do in order to analyze oneself, which was interesting. The first part didn't appeal to me that much because I have read the stuff written in it so many times before, and in a much better form. I would have appreciated it if it was written in a more comprehensive way and with a clear mind.
Since I got an eBook to read, I don't know whether the space error between the words everywhere is in digital medium only or in the paperback too. But that space bar error was a total annoyance.
📚Back To Square One By Inderjit Kaur📚 Depression has numerous layers that all come together to impact a sufferer, it's hard to describe or articulate into words. People are sad for so many reasons as we move forward embracing new phase of science and technology, many of us live an unhappy life. . 📚We are certainly affected by the surrounding and environment. It is quite obvious that we all face certain issues with our life and our mental health but it is most important to focus on them and try to make your own life better and better. Depression and unhappiness are the most faced issues by our society and most of the time they are due to performing pressure or the pressure of doing things perfectly but it's very important to understand that we are not born to please someone we are born to express ourselves and not to impress anyone. Same thing has explained by the author in such a beautiful way that you will love each and every page of the book. She mostly focuses on various topics that are affecting the humanity due to which reading it becomes very important and must. . Her way of writing has always been amazing and she is extremely amazing in weaving her words into sentences and sentences into paragraphs. I liked the way she dealt with each topic I made it more simpler to understand. Taking about the cover, it is very basic and I think it could have been a bit more expressive. This was a short and simple read but I wish there was a bit more stronger narration. The book is full of positivity and is definitely recommend. . Rating: 3.7🌟
Depression is a silent killer and I appreciate author’s effort to write on such topics. We need to find our own demons. And something which is hidden is always our great enemy. We need to understand that if we are not ready or determined to fight depression no one can help us. So, I applaud that author has shared practices followed by herself to keep depression at bay. Is it not amazing we need to find silence, a place to introspect to identify the silent killer. Life offers so much and negativity is one of them. And that’s exactly this book ask us to eliminate. We need to gain clarity on our thoughts, need to take charge of ourselves by not mulling events and past which are not in our control. After all people need to be well aware of ‘The Demon’. Book is divided into two modules. First module, are thoughts of author what all an individual need to overcome it. The chapters may look not connected but in fact they are ingredients to win back a healthy life style. Book give brief on such topics but I guess more depth could have been added. Second module provides a pragmatic tracking approach to know your progress. Hence the book is amalgam of both philosophical theory and pragmatic approach. It is short read. With simple language. It does make you feel positive and can be picked up for self-help. I will give 3.5 Stars.

Brief review:
Depression creeps in, silently. It makes you want to go far away from your own self. It makes you someone you never dreamed or imagined to be. And what's weird? You don't know whether it chose you or you chose it.
~ Back to Square One is a practical approach for dealing with depression. I liked how the author has put efforts to follow a sequence, so as to let problems & their solutions unfurl clearly. Various aspects of depression are put forward. At the end of every module, progressive charts & assessment methods are included, which I felt are actually useful. However, I also felt the narration was quite plain & someone who is depressed needs strong affirmations to deal with depression not just statements. Overall, a good approach towards writing about the topic, most of us are struggling with. 🌻

BOOK : Back to square one- A living series - Book 5 . Author : Inderjit Kaur . Rating : 4/5 . This book talks about depression and ways to get out of it. They say that mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increase the burden. It is easier to say, "My tooth is aching" than to say "My heart is broken". Hence this book comes up with ways to handle depression in life. Here is a nice and short read that could work as a detox to you, improving your mental stability and emotional strength. Back To Square One by Inderjit Kaur is an important and significant leap in the history of self-help books. Unlike other books of the same genre, the writer doesn't just stop at pointing out the mistakes we're making. Moreover, the writer steps ahead and further discusses the proper and detailed methods by which we can make it right. The book is neatly divided into two parts. While the first part discusses ways to increase your learning and power, the second part simple exercises to achieve your goals.
Title and book cover: Good title, the book cover could have been better. (4/5)
Writing style: Neat writing style. Loved the way how author has put down the points clearly under each title. Personally, Ten steps to recover your self esteem, Evaluation and Progress chart connected well with me. (4/5)
Language and grammar: Simple language which was easy to understand. But spotted a few grammar mistakes. The book needs editing too, for shortening a few sections. (3/5)
Overall, a good inspirational read! My verdict: 4/5
A book about positivity It is a fact that now in this stressful environment Many people are suffering from depression, anxiety and these conditions are really dangerous. The one suffering should definitely have a positive impression in his life. Now to be honest this book is okayish. There are many books on positive thinking already and in that race it doesn't provides anything new. There are many better options. To be a worthy book to read many Elements are needed to be improvised
After reading so many motivational, self-help book, I must say that this one is really unique. I loved the way how the author narrated all the complicated issues in a very simple way. The pointers and proper examples used in the book, made it more relevant and easy to understand the topics. I especially loved the quotes at the end of the book. The way the author described all the things is really engaging and the language is simple. The cover is subjective. Over all, a must read book!

Author has written a very nice book addressing a common but serious disorder called "Depression" which is plaguing individuals all over the world. I liked the way the book is organized and presented by the author. Simple language used while writing and simple conscious practical efforts /steps are suggested. The book is organized in two modules. Module one concentrates on alleviating depression effects, how to counter it etc. Every symptom or charecterstics of depression is mentioned and steps to reduce /stop are suggested, mainly thought process, how to react etc. Module two concentrates on reclaiming /restarting life again. It is more of practical guide / self help book and a work book, all in one in this section.
Pros: Book is very insightful and information shared is required to live happy balanced life.
Cons: Typographical errors editing needed.
Would recommend this book for all as it addresses Depression and also is a self help book for restarting/powering up one's own life.

A great book to depend on. Nice way of delivering an issue which is common these days. A bit of grammatical issues was there, but it can be over looked. Overall a nice read.
