It's October, and Still More Tales to Give You Goosebumps is all themed around Halloween scares so of course I had to prioritise reading this. Ten Halloween-themed Goosebumps short stories by R.L. Stine? I'm sold. Except... I have to admit, the majority of these seem to lack Stine's distinctive writing style. Perhaps he was experimenting, or perhaps some of these stories were ghostwritten.

Pumpkin Juice
Despite the twist being glaringly obvious for anyone with even a passing familiarity with Goosebumps, I still thought this was a fun short story to open the book with. It's a neat idea executed well (and there's even a couple of moments that reminded me of The Troop by Nick Cutter) and I did enjoy the ending.

Attack of the Tattoo
Conceptually this is a really fun idea with moments of seemingly genuine peril. I couldn't help but smile reading this as it made me nostalgic for the temporary tattoos I sometimes dabbled with as a kid. This is probably my favourite short story included here.

The Wish
This short story treads familiar ground, basically providing another take on an idea previously tackled in Be Careful What You Wish For... - a Goosebumps entry which I only found to be quite average anyway. Can't say this short story really offers anything new or interesting.

An Old Story
Okay this is one of the short stories included here that really doesn't feel like it was written by Stine. It's strangely sinister, about two brothers who are fed enchanted prunes by an aunt, with the prunes causing them to physically age radically, with the ultimate goal being the aunt wanting to set up the (child) brothers with her overly-amorous old-aged friends. Even for Goosebumps, this is out there, and the strangely adult undertone feels entirely misplaced. Also this short never refers to Halloween, making it seem even more out of place with the rest of the book. Utterly bonkers.

The Scarecrow
Whilst I admittedly didn't predict the twist ending here, it feels a little toothless - especially considering some of the short stories found in these collections have a tendency to be a little more brutal than where Goosebumps usually goes. The concept is pretty good - at first I was concerned it would be another take on The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight , but Stine manages to take this story in a different direction. The morality message is perhaps a little more obvious than usual, but overall, and despite the ending, I did like this entry.

Awesome Ants
I think where this short story ends up is more interesting than the journey it took to get us there. There's an inevitability to this that makes it for a bit of a tedious read. A couple of fun moments once things start kicking off, but overall, I found this to be a pretty weak entry.

Please Don't Feed the Bears
This is another one of those short stories where the twist is pretty obvious, and so you're left to endure the journey getting there. The concept is pretty strong - a kid who has gone off on their own at a theme park gets lost trying to regroup with their family - it's fertile ground for relatable child-friendly horror. But unfortunately Stine doesn't really tap into this element particularly well, and so it just ends up being a pretty predictable story.

The Goblin's Glare
I didn't really like the set-up here, but I will admit that by the end I thought this short story was doing something interesting. Unfortunately, like Awesome Ants, it's another example where it ends just as it starts getting good.

Bats About Bats
I quite liked this one. The idea is fun and I enjoyed the twist. This delivers pretty much exactly what you would expect from a Goosebumps short story and it does it well.

The Space Suit Snatcher
For me, Stine tends to have mixed results when slipping into sci-fi. This final short story included here is merely okay. I did like the protagonist, but everything else is just fine.

Overall, Still More Tales to Give You Goosebumps is a totally adequate collection. I don't think it fully utilises the Halloween theme satisfyingly, but that aside, we have the usual range here from strong stories to weaker ones. An Old Story stands out the most for being a baffling inclusion. It's not as good as More Tales to Give You Goosebumps , is better than Even More Tales to Give You Goosebumps: Ten Spooky Stories , and I would say is only very slightly weaker than Tales to Give You Goosebumps because it's just not quite as consistent.

I was pretty interested to see where this would rank amongst the six tales books, being the final one I would have to read and having the final stories left to rank. And I’ve gotta say, I think it’s the best of this series! All stories were above a 7/10, and I honestly loved a few of them. Each had great ideas and executions and just worked wonders for me. The standouts are Goblin’s Glare, Bats About Bats, and An Old Story. The weakest in here is The Spacesuit Snatcher, which isn’t bad at all (that one in particular I was excited for, and whilst it lacked a decent ending, the first half at the garage sale was some really wholesome writing and it admittedly had an amazing character, and the reason I bring this one up is because it’s an alien story, my favorite type of GB tale). Here’s my ratings for each and an overall rating:

Pumpkin Juice - 7.5/10
Attack of the Tattoo - 7.5/10
The Wish - 9/10
An Old Story - 9/10 (better than the episode)
The Scarecrow - 8/10
Awesome Ants - 9.5/10 (competes with episode)
Please Don’t Feed the Bears - 8/10
The Goblin’s Glare - 10/10 👑
Bats About Bats - 9.5/10
The Space Suit Snatcher - 7.5/10

Overall: 8.5/10, the best tales book of them all and had some amazing stories that compete for top 10. This is an amazing Halloween read.

This is one of the more disappointing reads from the franchise so far. This is the tales book everyone seems to appreciate for one reason or another. Sadly, this is my least favorite from the 3 ive read so far. I dont find many of these stories special, and for how short they are this book is kinda boring. Remove pumpkin juice and an old story, and its probably gonna be way worse… but with the way it is, its just whatever. 4.5/10.

I’ll be upfront, I’m not the biggest fan of this series. But this book impressed me. This is my second favorite of the Tales To Give You Goosebumps series which revolve around each having 10 short stories each. This one has a Halloween theme (and really doesn’t stick to it, some stories don’t belong in here but we will roll with it). With these stories I look at main criteria such as ability to display horror, tell a cohesive story, and originality. I think this book is close to out of the box as this series got. There’s just one book I think is better than this one. I’ll rate the individual stories now out of 5 stars.

Pumpkin Juice (4/5⭐️)
- I genuinely laughed and had a ball with this story. For those that don’t know, Stine would use this story to make a floundering mess in Series 2000 called Full Moon Fever, this is definitely the superior story. A couple of boys find a recipe for a fun sounding Halloween concoction that turns Halloween Night upside down. Just a silly story but it was entertaining. The twist at the end was also hilarious and fun so I have no problems with this one other than the story lacked logic.

Attack Of The Tattoo (5/5⭐️) (BEST STORY)
- While not my favorite of this book, it is abjectly the best written and easily one of the most creative stories in the entire Tales series. Remember those stick on tattoos you would get as a kid? This story makes a creepy, skin-crawling tale centered around that. It had a likable protagonist and a very funny twist that worked very well. Left things open ended, but in this story it worked amazingly.

The Wish (4/5⭐️)
- This story admittedly could’ve been better than it actually was. Very reminiscent to Be Careful What You Wish For instead done with a Halloween flare. A boy is tormented by his brother on Halloween Night and they reluctantly visit this eerie woman’s house where the boy receives a rock. He disregards the instructions and makes a wish he wishes he can take back. The twist at the end was fun, but out of all of the stories in this collection, this one did feel slightly underwhelming. I can see it being a divisive story though, because it is rather boring and we did see this happen in an OG62 book. I just feel this is a better product than that.

An Old Story (5/5⭐️)
- WARNING: THIS STORY WILL MAKE YOU FEEL A CERTAIN TYPE OF WAY. This easily is the most misplaced story inside of here or at least one of them considering it has little to do with Halloween than any of the stories. And I’d even say it’s so out there, it feels out of place being in Goosebumps. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This story replicates notes similar to child trafficking, and other super serious things. But it’s done to the absolute extreme extent and trust me, it is bonkers. Two boys are being babysat by an aunt they never met and let’s just say the aunt has plans with them… to introduce them to her friends that are 6x their age. The little things in this story are legitimately disturbing, and when the ending comes, it makes it even more disturbing when you think about it. I’d declare this easily as the most memorable story out of the entire series, for better or for worse. Has a TV episode with mild changes, and that stands in its own right as well.

The Scarecrow (4/5⭐️)
- I didn’t know what to expect with this one. Three kids find a scarecrow near the bus stop as it’s approaching Halloween and the Scarecrow presents gifts to each one based on their personalities. The main character notices her friends start falling ill as the temptation to take from the Scarecrow builds in the story. And the ending, well, that’s the problem. The ending ruined this story for me. Felt like a little waste of time, but I can’t knock it was taking this direction the whole time. This one feels like the best written out of the bunch, but it didn’t quite knock my socks off. Still above average though.

Awesome Ants (4/5⭐️)
- This story is also out of place inside of this book. Which is only one of my main issues. This story is a big adventure but unlike books like Go Eat Worms!, Awesome Ants is actually riveting to read through. This one is more action oriented. The twist is alright, I think the TV episode is more iconic in the ending though.

Please Don’t Feed The Bears (3/5⭐️) (WORST STORY)
- Yes, a 3/5⭐️ is the worst story. This story is playing off of a few existing Goosebumps stories. One is One Day At Horrorland, and the other is The Haunted Mask. The setting is reminiscent to One Day At Horrorland as it takes place in some demented Care Bear nightmare of an amusement park, and this girl is upset that her family went there so close to Halloween all because her little sister wanted to go. Now, it does get very bizarre for the character, who is rather unlikable. And the twist ending is something you can find in Trick Or Trap, Monster On The Ice, and The Haunted Mask. But it works, because she’s unlikable. It easily is the dumbest story though.

The Goblin’s Glare (4/5⭐️)
- There’s a story called Why I Hate Jack Frost that emulated this in Book #6 that I find superior. But this story is the blueprint to that story, and the classic that is I Live In Your Basement! (Book #61 in the OG62). This story was super creepy and creative. A boy draws this insanely scary goblin to hang on his front porch for Halloween, but something feels a bit too real about the painting. Reality starts to blur and the ending is something straight outta the Twilight Zone. For it being the first story of its kind in Goosebumps, I applaud it. And I think it’s the most objectively scary story in this book. Had a fun time. (Also, my personal favorite in this book).

Bats About Bats (4/5⭐️)
- This story actually surprised me because I thought I would hate it. A goth-esque girl is invited to a slumber party by these other girls who simply want to find out if she’s a vampire. Since the girl has a weird and unique obsession about bats. What happens though is slightly predictable but with an unpredictable angle to it. This one felt like a creepy sleepover tale that Goosebumps hardly ever ventures down. It feels unique in that regard so I dig it.

The Spacesuit Snatcher (3/5⭐️)
- This was slightly disappointing to end on if I’m being honest. The story just wasn’t a home run for me but it was passable. Around Halloween, a thrifty girl stumbles across a yard sale where she finds a space suit that potentially can link her to aliens she is obsessed with trying to meet. For Halloween, she may or may not entertain wearing the suit and what happens is to be expected. This one gets a pass for its out of the box thought, the plot layout seems fresh for Goosebumps and I’m surprised hasn’t been used to make full-length books by Stine himself. Not the worst, but it barely scrapes by in the okay department for me.

Wow. This book doesn’t really cement faith in this series for me, as Tales is in my permanent bottom 3 as of now. But I think this one will be a revisit every Halloween for years to come. For once, I actually liked majority of these. My actual score is a 4.8/5 and I did give it a generous amount of bonus points for being overall solid. 2 stories genuinely impressed me and I did take away a couple of other ones I think of all of the time. I actually would recommend this one, it doesn’t use the Holiday for cliches other than trick or treating here and there. And it has genuinely scary stories minus a few funnier ones. But even the funnier ones are still enjoyable. Try this one out!

Felt like this one was aimed at kids younger than his usual audience, which makes "An Old Story" even stranger. Look, being forced to eat prunes and being pimped to old ladies by someone pretending to be your aunt is pretty disturbing, okay?

Pumpkin juice: a kid and his friend accidentally make a spooky concoction that turns them into werewolves! This is a gross out one with the narrator and his friend eating everything in sight. Eventually they learn how to fix it but of course there’s a twist at the end! Pretty okay

Attack of the tattoo: a girl applies a temporary tattoo of a snake with water that’s been left in the sun, but snakes start coming out of the ink. Follows a similar formula as the first, complete with a resolution that’s undone by someone else. Not my favorite

The Wish: the narrator has all his candy stolen by his brother on Halloween night, so he uses a magic rock given to him by an old woman to wish he was an only child. He wakes up and is eventually chased down by adults for reasons unclear. Kind of an eerie one honestly

An old story: one of the most uncomfortable ones, about a kid and his brother being babysat by their aunt they never knew they had. She insists on feeding them prune cookies, and they start to age. Then her old friends come over and start trying to buy them as old men. No joke. This is about attempted child grooming/ trafficking. Nbd. The ending to this one is surprisingly upbeat but implies there’s more of these mysterious aunts out there. Where they come from is never made clear and it’s all the creepier for it

The scarecrow: an unnerving story about a scarecrow that turns up in the yard of the local haunted house. The scarecrow is wearing clothing that the narrator and her friends all want. They all become obsessed with those clothes until they start taking the articles and suffering from ailments related to them. This is a quieter, weirder story, and ends ambiguously, which makes it my favorite despite a stupid twist

Awesome ants: a creature feature where ants grow to an enormous size. It’s a goofy, weird story that I had a good time with

Please don’t feed the bears: the narrator gets lost at a Care Bears rip-off themed amusement park before eventually wandering off into a weird employees only area. This one is like a more intriguing version of the pumpkin juice one, and I enjoyed it quite a bit because the idea of singing something scary while getting lost at a theme park is fun

The goblins glare: my least favorite in the collection, about a kid who makes a cardboard goblin that haunts his dreams. This one doesn’t go anywhere super interesting

Bats about bats: follows a familiar formula of a character claiming revenge after being the target of a prank. The new girl at school is obsessed with bats, and after the narrator and her friend play a prank on her, they get more than they bargained for at a sleepover at the new girls place. Kinda predictable but I liked it

The space suit snatcher: the final entry is about a girl whose radio can go into space. It has a kind of funny ending

It’s not high art but it’s fun

Would you enjoy reading it again:
Maybe. I was aware of the ending of these stories because of the TV series so it wasn't much fun reading them because I knew the twist/ what was going on, but it was still enjoyable. Some of the twists seemingly came out of left field which made them fun but some of the twists were lackluster and so most of them felt like a let down due to that; due to this, different Goosebumps books would be better to read but this one was still fun - 3

Did you enjoy the plot:
It was entertaining but I could have done better, potentially predictable- 3

Did you enjoy the writing style:
Better than most books but still lacked tons of descriptions about the environment and such. The short stories rarely go into depth on the characters and there is never a lesson, but that is expected from a Goosebumps book and the charm of a Goosebumps book is focusing on the creepy thing and the character is bland so you feel it is really happening to you and you project your own feelings onto the characters - 4

Good ending?
Great but was somewhat let down- 4

Format: physical book (paperback)
Average rating: 3.5 stars. Round up: 4 stars.

Really great book overall, only two stories below a 7/10.
My reviews for each story:
Pumpkin Juice - 8/10
Pretty entertaining monster transformation story, far better than the full book version.
Attack of the Tattoo - 9/10
Pretty cool concept that works well.
The Wish - 7/10
A pretty by-the-numbers monkey's paw story done decently well. I get that it's a short story but I wish there were more wishes.
An Old Story - 1/10
This is less horror, just weird.
The Scarecrow - 5/10
Incredible set up with a lousy final page.
Awesome Ants - 9/10
Very fun story.
Please Don't Feed the Bears - 8/10
Also very fun.
The Goblin's Glare - 10/10
Incredible. Reminds me of I Live in Your Basement!
Bats About Bats - 10/10
Incredible story with great monsters.
The Space Suit Snatcher - 10/10
Fun alien story with a satisfying ending.
Overall: 8/10

Still More Tales to Give You Goosebumps: Ten Spooky Stories. Reading this was like a trip back to the '90s. I love how books are like little time machines that can take us back to a particular era. I wish I could walk around a Halloween night in the mid-90s. These stories were fun and silly, and some were even creepy. Give it a read!

There's not a bad story in this book, but there also aren't any exceptionally creative or interesting stories. I was a little disappointed that 2 of the 10 stories aren't even Halloween themed (unless I missed a quick reference). Overall, it was a solid collection from this series.

All the stories are great, but for me, "The Bear's Song" is the most interesting of the collection; it's also an old story about pedophilia and human trafficking. "The Tattoo Attack" is a different and well-developed idea, and "Pumpkin Juice" and "The Scarecrow" are my favorites.

I don’t know how stine does it, but he manages to write the scariest stories with the silliest titles, especially attack of the tattoo, that one actually caught me off guard a bit

***This review contains SPOILERS. Read at your OWN risk!***

I happened to come across this one at the thrift store and since I've never read any of R.L. Stine's short stories, I decided to give it a try. Thought it would make a nice read for Halloween as well. This book had ten short stories. Overall I enjoyed this, but here's my thoughts on the indivivual stories:

1. Pumpkin Juice--Typical R.L Stine Goosebumps-esqe story. I found it to be entertaining, though I'm honestly a little stumped about the recipe and the after-effects, but this is a Goosebumps story so I went with it. The twist at the end was nice, though.

2. Attack of the Tattoo--Original. Had nice imagery, but I couldn't help but chuckle at how the tattoos were put on and removed.

3. The Wish--This one had a nice twist. Was really short so I didn't like it as much as the previous two.

4. An Old Story--This one was really interesting. It's probably my favorite out of all of these. An old aunt feeds her nephews things made with special prunes in order for them to become older so she can set them up with her friends. Bahahaha!

5. The Scarecrow--I really liked the irony in this one. Didn't care a lot for the twist. Could have been a great moral story.

6. Awesome Ants--Meh. My least liked out of these.

7. Please Don't Feed the Bears--This one ended up being pretty good, though I was doubtful at first.

8. The Goblin's Glare--Another that I didn't really care for.

9. Bats About Bats--This one was a bit weird, but I liked the twist, as corny as it was.

10.The Space Suit Snatcher--This was a good one. I guessed part of the twist, but the final one was funny.

Overall, a nice collection of short stories. They're kind of corny, but they are geared to a way younger audience. I still enjoyed most of these, though.

My eight year old daughter liked it. I enjoyed reading it to her around fall. It feels very halloween. It's a collection of short stories. It took me about 5-10 minutes to read her each story, which was nice for around bedtime and it kept her from talking me into reading the entire book in one sitting (typical Goosebumps books can take as long as an hour and a half to read).
