She’s an electrician starting over with her son. New town, new job. New life.

He’s a coworker who’s interested in more than her ability to run conduit.

And the building they’re rewiring was once an insane asylum…

Mercedes Donohue pulled up roots in Atlanta when her marriage imploded. She’s come back to New England, to the place where she was born. Mercy’s focus is to stabilize her teenage son’s life—he took the breakup pretty hard—and to establish her place, gain the respect of Progressive Electrical’s team.

She never expected so many sparks to fly so soon, both on the job and after hours.

Daniel Gallagher has been alone since his fiancé’s death. He’ll never feel that way about any woman again, and will certainly won’t try with another independent, strong-willed one. Then Mercy short-circuits his plans.

Although the asylum closed its doors over thirty-five years ago, it seems some of the patients never left . . .

If you like a heart-melting romance laced with healthy dose of supernatural thrills and chills, you’ll love Electricity.

Claire Gem writes for her life. An avid fan of intensely emotional romance as well as a good ghost story (not necessarily together or in that order), her favorite authors include Nora Roberts, Barbara Michaels, Linda Howard, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Simone St James, & Susanna Kearsley.

Claire has lived in five states - Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, & Texas. She's worked as a hairdresser, a bridal designer, a lab tech, & in scientific research. Her loves are horses, fishing, pretty things, & being a novelist. And wine. And chocolate.

Claire's idea of a great love story is one with extreme emotion: one that makes you laugh and cry, get mad and get scared, one that has that *sigh* factor. A book that transports you to another place and introduces you to new people so real, you want to call them up and ask them out for a drink, and miss them when you read those dreaded words - The End.

Since receiving her MFA in Creative Writing from Lesley University, Claire loves living in New England with her husband Clark, who's been her HEA for almost 35 years now, a Boston terrier named Chopper, a well-worn Mac laptop, and lots of daydreams.

What a fresh take on contemporary romance wrapped around a little ghost storytelling! Claire Gem’s ELECTRICITY may not have all the glitz and glamor of some romances, but it does have real characters living real lives being given a second chance at love.

Mercy has uprooted her life after a bad divorce, taking her son far from the home he had always known. As an electrician, she finds she is part of a team re-wiring and old, abandoned mental facility, one said to have ghosts haunting its halls. Daniel has never gotten over the death of his fiancé, but something about Mercy, from her work ethic to her abilities as a mother has drawn him in, like a moth to a flame. But will the dark secrets of the haunted building be their doom or their salvation?

Secrets lay buried in the walls of the ancient building, secrets that will cause Mercy and Daniel to dig deep, but what will they find? A second chance at love? Horrors beyond compare? Or perhaps answers that will help them both heal?

Claire Gem has a real gem in with just enough tentative romance between two characters to feel so incredibly real! Lots of suspense, some paranormal and some fabulous writing!

A great read for the beach or on a dark and stormy night!

Each of the books in this series are stand alone – not connected in anyway. They each have a heartwarming romance that is the main focus of the story with a ghost story that runs parallel and keeps the reader on their toes with the mystery/suspense of the haunting.

Claire Gem has written a heartwarming ghost-story-romance that will keep you turning the pages. It’s a wonderful story about second-chances, we all need them!
Mercy Donohue and Daniel Gallagher find themselves on the same team of electricians re-wiring an old haunted mental institution with a dark secret past. Sparks fly immediately, and the two generate a lot of electricity, literally. Daniel has never recovered from the loss of his fiancé and Mercy is recovering from a horrific divorce from a cheating husband. But the greater mystery lies amid the ghosts that haunt the decrepit old building that they are rehabbing.
I won’t give anything away, but if you like romance and a good old-fashioned ghost story this is your book.

I really enjoyed Electricity by Claire Gem. Equal parts spooky ghost story and sweet romance, the book was well written and captured my attention from the very first page. The narrative flowed easily and the characters were both colorful, and easy to like (especially the ghosts!)

I wish I had more to say about this book, but I have nothing to complain about – it was simply a good story. If you enjoy ghost stories – especially those that aren’t too creepy – and you have a penchant for romances, I highly recommend you give this book a try. I certainly look forward to reading more books by this author.

From the first paragraph I was hooked. Claire Gem's characters and their depth had me turning the pages. This romance was filled with suspense, love and twists and a bit of the paranormal. I look forward to reading books in this series.

I received an ARC from the author for an honesty review.

Sweet little love story with a twist of paranormal

I loved Mercy and Daniel's love story. I've been divorced and raised kids on my own, so I
appreciate a good "second chance at love" tale. The ghost story involved was just icing on the cake! I grew up in the town that Corby was based on and have frequented the Post Office Pub and the mall in Millbury many times. Loved catching those little gems! The old State Hospital exists, and is on the campus of a well known University. Such a fun walk down memory lane. Thank you Claire Gem!!

Absorbing and captivating romantic paranormal mystery. The variety of genres was unsettling but strangely it worked for me. I liked the characters and enjoyed the development of their relationships. Basically, this is a story about Mercedes starting over after her divorce. In the process of starting a new job rewiring an old insane asylum, she takes an interest in one of her coworkers. There is nothing gross or gory but I did get the creeps a few times. An enjoyable book. I received a free copy of this book but this is my own honest review.

This is an interesting novel that adds romance to a mystery thriller. It is also the first I have read by this author, but I am sure I will be grabbing more. Readers meet Mercy and her son Reagan when Mercy and the crew she works with are hired to renovate a building that was once an insane asylum. Do spirits of the past haunt the present? Readers should definitely grab this book and find out.

I received this novel as an advanced reading copy.

This book has what I am calling a continuity issue although it isn't about 'time' so much. This is in the first part of the book so I do not think of it as a spoiler. The first time in 'the tunnel', Mercy has no issue with size, space, even the dark when they cut the power. But once the 'spooky' stuff starts to happen, the author suddenly it talking about her claustrophobia. First she is not claustrophobic but later on she is. That is an issue for me.

The other issue is that because she doesn't want to be attracted to someone she works with, she isn't vary nice to Daniel. The idea of being mean to people you like is something that sets my teeth on edge. It reminds me of all the times adults tell children that the other child who is being mean to them probably just likes them. It is a horrible message to children and I think can lead to the reason some people end up with abusive partners because we have 'taught' an odd response to a form of bullying. But then to turn around and actually bully people we do like because we think it is not a good thing at the time and think is a good way to prevent a return interest is just as a bad.

I expected to really like this book and the basic story line was good and the basic personalities of the characters were good. But then it is the actions and responses of the characters to situations that I found harder and harder to tolerate and I eventually started skimming it to get though sections and then taking a break from reading it because of minor annoyances.

I received an arc of this book to review. Paranormal romances are something I had little interest in until this book.
I think the setting of the story is so interesting.
Mercy and Daniel make a sweet couple . I do find it weird at first Daniel seemed to use her son as a ploy to get to know her but they evolved from that point.
Mercy and Daniel are both electricians and while working mercy gets zapped and little does she know it's a ghost using all it's energy to connect with her.
I like that Kevin accomplish his mission in the end to some extent . Mercy finds her answers as painful as the acknowledgement may be. Daniel realizes his love isn't lost this time. Great characters and interesting plot that keeps you wondering all the way through.

Ms. Gem writes romance with a nice paranormal twist of ghosts populating some of the story. This time around while electricians are rewiring a decommissioned mental hospital a number of odd events, seemingly ghostly, occur and spook everyone. Without writing a summary, the hero and heroine of the story are a part of the electricians and this is their romance. I appreciated the relatable characters and the plot around a historical site and ghosts kept my interest and, of course, the romance is a bit challenging but worth it.

This was my first Claire Gem's book, and won't be my last. Electricity is the fifth book in the Haunted Voices series, a Paranormal Romance. I like Ghost Romance! The plot is well crafted, and captivating. Looking forward to listening to more book in the series. Dawn Williams did an excellent job with the narration. I enjoyed it. I was giving this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I was super excited to read this book, especially since I work at the institute that this book is based off of and know all the local landmarks and history. But this book was more of a romance novel and less of a ghost story. I wanted more spookiness than I got, although some parts were still enjoyable, but overall was disappointed.
