Agile Artist: Life Lessons From Hollywood and Beyond

Rate this book

Do you see yourself as an artist?

Colin Egglesfield never thought an artistic career path was realistic. He always made room for creativity, but it was never his life’s focus.

A chance encounter with an acting class, before committing to medical school, made Colin realize that an artistic career was possible. The path wasn’t easy. Breaking into Hollywood can be quite a challenge. On top of that, he was diagnosed with cancer, not once, but twice.

In "Agile Artist," Colin shares lessons he learned from his struggles to make a career in Hollywood, finding courage and support through personal health battles and tragedies. Along the way he shares the riveting story of his ground-zero experience on 9/11 as well as his social impact projects in Chicago. This is the story of Colin’s journey into creative discovery and his attempts to connect with a more authentic version of himself to become an Agile Artist.

Colin emphasizes his belief that we are all artists in some form or another, even if we haven’t connected with that part of ourselves. In ‘Agile Artist,’ he shares his rich life stores and provides plenty of inventive strategies to help you break through to your creative, true self. Beyond this powerful book Colin invites you to join his artist community, where together, we can all support, motivate and share who we are to create not only better lives but a better world.

This book, by far, surpassed my expectations. It was not only insightful, inspiring, and encouraging, but also extremely easy to read and relate to as well. Truly, this book has really stuck with me - it's now been several weeks since I finished it and it has crossed my thoughts pretty much every day since, so I find myself reflecting on it often, as well as trying (key word here is 'trying' lol) to incorporate some of the things I took from it into my day to day life. Plus, if I'm being completely honest - now that summer has started to wind down, so too has my patience (I'm desperately counting down the days until school starts back up), so a good, healthy dose of positivity is exactly what I needed (a Margarita couldn't hurt either tho..). I really do highly recommend checking this one out.

Thank you!!!

This is truly one of the best books that I have read in 2019. The fact you had one of my favorite quotes of all time from Yoda made my day. Thank you for opening up your life, your fears, joys, sadness and your insights in your book. I hope you will turn this into an audio book and write more in the future.

I’ve really gotten into memoirs and other nonfiction books that I find motivational over the past year or so. Agile Artist by Colin Egglesfield (you probably know him from All My Children or Something Borrowed, just to name a few) is another truly enjoyable read and the timing of when I picked this one up was perfect.

As I’ve been “stuck” at home over the past month, I’ve been in my head a lot ... thinking about what is important to me, what I want to prioritize in my life, re-evaluating my goals and what I want for the future. Egglesfield does a great job of sharing his own personal story, including overcoming a number of surprising struggles, and synthesizing this story with what he has learned about creating the life he desires. I already believed in the power of manifesting what you want in your life, which is a core component of what Egglesfield discusses in his book, but this was a great refresher and reminder of ways to stay passionate about your goals and work towards achieving them. For those of you who may not be familiar with this concept, I think Agile Artist is a great place to start. Egglesfield has clearly read extensively and worked hard to draw from so many sources and experiences, culminating in what he shares here.

I highly recommend this one if you enjoy memoirs and/or are looking for a bit of motivation during these strange times!

A book about how to go after the life that we want, very authentically written. Colin Egglesfield tell as his story about the cancer and hiss lessons from Hollywood. He shares his experiences with facing adversity.
While I was reading the book, it was reminding me about something- a movie or another book that I have read long time ago, but I was unsure what this book reminds me about. Finally, I was at the end of the book and I figured out that the book reminds me about the movie Limitless with Bradley Cooper. It tells us how to live the life that we want and how to reach our goals without the magic pill.

A big fan of Colin’s loved him as Dex in Something Borrowed and have seen his work on Rizzoli & Isles, The Client List and Melrose Place. This book grabbed my attention and I wanted to hear about his experiences. It was thought provoking and definitely had me rethinking some things in my life but also a struggle at times to get through and a bit of repetitiveness. All in all not bad

Left a lot to be desired. Very hoppy and chopped - could've been more cohesive.
