JUST LOVE: Is a full length, stand alone romance novel by Prescott Lane. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.' This does flit from Past to Present and can be a bit confusing to begin with but it does make sense the more you get into the book.

From the cover to the synopsis to the author to the pages within this book was utter perfection. An Unforgettable, Unputdownable, Uplifting, Unique book in every way possible!! This easily went from a 5 star read to becoming one of my most favourite books.

Get ready to fall in love with Rhett and Ainsley. A fabulous forbidden best friends little sister romance with a second chance twist that kick starts the heart to feel everything this book has to offer.

Rhett is the guy that helped raise Ainsley along with her brother Brody and his long term girlfriend Skye, when their parents tragically died whilst Brody was a senior, leaving Brody sole custody of Ainsley, who was only fifteen at the time. So to say Ainsley was off limits and forbidden was an understatement. Rhett and Brody had their own successful veterinary clinic, Skye is a nurse in a fertility clinic, Ainsley designs her own wedding dresses.

If Ainsley and Rhett didn't work out it would affect them all. But what's the harm in a little fun if no one gets hurt and they keep it their little secret, everything should work out shouldn't it?

❝ If love should be anything...It should be honest. ❞

A lot have asked in the past, wanting to know my hard limit when it came to books, it’s animals, throw anything you like at me but if an animal gets sick, hurt, dies I’m a mess, this book hit me in the heart in the worst way it possibly could. Bawling has nothing on me!! I can now claim that my tear ducts had a major clean out!! This book gutted me, the emotional highs and lows brought me to my knees.

I wasn’t prepared for this roller coaster ride!! Tissues needed!! But how I loved this book!! This author ticked all my boxes!! The feels started hitting me that first chapter and never stopped coming!! Get ready to have your heart ripped out and stomped on!! There is absolutely nothing I would change about this book!!

The lies we tell ourselves are the ones that become our truths.

Maybe this is an “it’s me not you” situation.

The writing was actually good. The book seemed to have potential. The cover was gorgeous. The synopsis was promising.

But, I just didn’t like it. I was bored. The first half of book is alternating between the present and past. I normally don’t have problems with books that do that. But I was beyond annoyed in this book. I didn’t like the jumping from present to past specially when I didn’t feel like there’s something really happening. It was unnecessary and it added nothing to the book in my opinion. And Yes something kind of major happens in the second half of the book and it should have affected me, but it didn’t. Yes it was sad, but I wasn’t moved by it.

The book was so slow. like really slow with nothing happing. The thing is, for a very slow book, their relationship was kind of instant and super fast. And I really don’t like insta love books. I didn’t like both the hero and heroine. They were annoying. That’s it.

The synopsis doesn’t reveal very much so I’m not going to either. As this author is an auto read for me, I dove right in and was immediately drawn in until the finish. It didn’t disappoint.

Simply stated, this is the story of Rhett Bennett and Ainsley Rose. He’s her brother’s best friend, business partner and six years older. She’s a wedding dress designer and has been crazy about him since she was 15-years old. She’s back in Charleston, living in the same building, one floor down. He can’t stop thinking about her but doesn’t want to violate the best friend code. When the inevitable happens, both Rhett and Ainsley keep their relationship secret. Then something happens that tears them apart.

I loved this story! Ainsley’s unshakable love for Rhett was severely tested, mostly by him, and she was unwavering to a fault. Her commitment was admirable under heartbreaking circumstances and it had me in tears several times. Rhett’s reasoning for walking away, however logical, was maddening. The blunt reality of his situation was both enlightening and educational. Yet, I never questioned the depth of either’s devotion to each other. The road back was uneasy and realistic, sometimes impossible to envision. It’s never clear until the end whether it’s a possibility and I’ll leave that to your discovery.

The raw emotion captured here is difficult to describe. I could hardly put this down because I had to see this relationship through, whatever the resolution. I felt like I knew Ainsley and Rhett’s hearts because they were so skillfully defined, which made this an even tougher story. I never stopped rooting for them, even when they made boneheaded mistakes. I don’t want to provide spoilers so I’ll close saying the author “just” got everything right.

I am a wreck after reading this book. Every time I think of these characters I start crying—and it's not sad tears, it's tears because my heart feels so much, it feels so full, it's almost bursting. These characters became a part of me. I pulled so hard for them as I was reading, wanted everything to work out, and just the thought of Rhett and Ainsley squeezes my heart. Their story is such an intense journey. A story full of angst and heartache and beauty and hope and love. LOVE LOVE LOVEEEE! Going into this I didn't expect all that. In fact, I'm not sure what I was expecting. But this was so much more than I ever could have dreamed.

Prescott Lane writes with PURE heart and an intensity that stole my breath. Every word was BIG and DEEP and REAL. I was immersed in the detail of the characters, consumed with their lives right from the start, and my emotional connection to Rhett and Ainsely, Brody and Skye was immediate. These characters are wholly lovable. They’re the kind of characters you want to be friends with, the kind you want to see achieve every hope, dream, want, and need.

From the first word (our hero) Rhett's personality bursts off page. He’s so charming, so swoony, so sexy. But more than that, this guy is smart and funny, caring and nurturing, pure and good, and ugh! I want to start crying again because I just can't handle the way I LOVE him. I love him in away that words can't describe.

Rhett and Ainsley are soulmates. They know each other because Ainsley's brother (Brody) is Rhett's best friend. This is the "falling for your best friend's sister" trope. BUT, if you're expecting just that, you're going to be SURPRISED. This romance is so much MORE! The twist is one I didn't see coming. It hit me like a tsunami. It was INTENSE. Rhett and Ainsley's road to love, to life, is bumpy, hard, and all consuming.

These characters go through MAJOR things! Things I can’t even imagine having to go through! It broke me. Reading as they climbed these obstacles was indescribable. And honestly, this story is more than I can ever really say. It's deep. It's about accepting life as it comes, about self love, self acceptance, unconditional love. It’s about living life to the fullest no matter the situation, about making life your bitch. LOL! It's breathtaking, moving, and I felt every word, every moment. I truly lived (yes, lived, and loved) these characters.

Overall, I don't know what more I can say. I just LOVED this book. I really hope you take a chance on it! It's not your traditional romance novel, it’s more. So much MORE. The realness, the rawness, the heart, the love... It's wow! A top read for me. A MUST READ. A favorite of 2019! I can't recommend it enough.

Ever since I laid my eyes on this visually stunning cover, I've been so intrigued to get my hands on it. Trust me when I say, what lies between the covers is more beautiful.

"There’s two sides to every love story. The how you fell in love, and the how you fell apart."
It's such JUST LIFE isn't it.
So many stories of so many couples falling in love, some find their HEA, some break up, never to meet again.
This book ISN'T THAT....it's so much MORE!!
Beautiful story starts as forbidden love. There's rules in life for a reason. Bros before Hoes, chicks before Docks, best friend's little sister is OFF LIMITS, but this aortic pump that beats inside the chest cavity has an agenda of it own.
So technically Prescott has drawn the growth chart of this muscle we call heart.

description

Rhett Bennett's best buddy Brody, his gf Skye and his baby sister are a fun foursome, thicker than thieves. They've held each other through tragedies and travesties, wiped each other's tears and smiled and laughed together. So it's a fated coincidence that Rhett falls unsteadily for Ainsley...his A.Rose. They're still trying to be casual about it
It's JUST FUN isn't it.
"Everything is “just” something: just fun, just love, just dinner. Like use of the word “just” makes things less significant. If I were a betting woman, I’d say before long, he’s going to be using “just friends” on me."

description

Hearts in tango, limbs entwined, stealing moments of blissful unawareness in kisses and snuggles,Life morphs their perspectives and relationships to an extent that when does simple, no strings fun turns into JUST LOVE they don't even realise.
But man proposes and God disposes....unfortunate fate twists their path where they ALL get lost!!
“Nobody dies a virgin. Life fucks us all.
Some cried a lot.
Some worked a lot.
Some disappeared.
Some soldiered on.
And some, like Skye, just got pissed.”

description

The story jumps from present to past 18 months ago, for a very special reason. Prescott skillfully captures angst and tears in her pages. The story moved me, would be an understatement. It gouged out my heart, would be more suitable to say.
The characters are all lost in their heads, refusing to open up and I could split my nails to pry open those tightly shut hearts, if I just could😢
"I could’ve gone back a long time ago. Only I got stuck looking at all the things I couldn’t have anymore, instead of looking at all the things that were right in front of me."
Each word brought wide smiles or streams of tears for me. Fate not only flipped their lives but mine too!! I sobbed, I cried, I hurt, I ached...I couldn't get enough of it!

description

The story was so formidable in sentiments, I physically ached for Ainsley and Rhett.
From radiating rosy glow to Grey of looming clouds, this story had ALL the shades of emotional spectrum and then some...
"They always say when you’re in love, you glow, but no one ever talks about what you look like when you lose love, when it punches you in the gut. Love has done some serious damage."
Be prepared to have the proverbial rug pulled out from under you until you thump fall on the floor, stunned and stupefied. When all will seem hopeless, Prescott holds your hand and takes you further....
When all is butchered and unsalvageable......the only option is to Go Back To The Start

Go discover the journey called Immeasurable Love, redefined by Prescott. You'll find Faith and be thankful for every tiny blessing in your life 🙏

REVIEW: 4 STARS
"Everything I want, I crave, begins and ends with her."

FIRST AND FOREMOST: I don't feel like I can start this review without first mentioning this absolutely exquisite cover. This cover immediately caught my eye the very first time I saw it and it's what drew me to actually wanting to see what the book was about. So this time....I did judge a book by it's cover. And thank gosh I did. I definitely love this cover and enjoyed the book. And oh so fitting and original. Bravo, Miss Lane. Bravo.

This was my first book by Prescott Lane and I can easily add her to my rotating list of authors I'd love to read again. With the story being an emotionally heavy journey, the flow of her words carried me through - but the compassion held my hand as I waded through all the drama as it unfolded. It was heartwarming and heartbreaking intertwined with detail. Definitely not all flowers and roses, that's for sure. Her 'voice' was a much calmer voice than I anticipated and I appreciated that - very smooth and easy to read. There were some anecdotes, as well as some entertaining side thoughts, that may have added conversation points but not necessarily intrinsic to the overall story but it didn't feel noisy or too wordy. Very easy to read and I definitely look forward to more. This was a great introduction to her work and it's one that I can stand behind and readily recommend.

While this one was told in a back/forth time style - not my favorite, I honestly don't feel like it detracted from the storyline at all. In all actuality, I enjoyed this aspect of it quite a bit since I got to fall in love and learn, all in the span of a few hours while reading. While I know a few of my friends and a few other readers shy away from this style, I will say that it played a very important "discovery" role and was very necessary and quite ideal to the layout.

"But the best lies I tell - those I reserve for myself."

Rhett was the kind of man we have all run into in this book world. There wasn't anything different about him until we got deep down into his heart. He was all heart. All lovable and sigh-worthy, he definitely gave me a case of the 'heart eyes' a few times. I loved him so much. Ainsley was such a strong young lady that had a terrible hand dealt her, but a life full of love certainly followed. But not without its due drama. I will tell you, this journey was a rough one and it had my full attention from the first page until the last page. So many twists and turns that made my heart sink and soar within a matter of pages - but I was equally rewarded. I really, really enjoyed this one.

I felt a very wide range of emotions, mixed in between the actual story and the characters' actions, and as frustrating as some parts were - there was always a deeper meaning that I could look to and better understand. It was, quite frankly, eye opening and beautiful. I felt like this one was a good mix of heartbreaking yet heart....opening? It’s truly a look at what can break up a perfect relationship, but it also made me think more about the “what if” scenario. What would I do? How would I deal with his “actions”? One would think love was stronger than anything, but there’s always that scary off scenario. I think this was beautifully written. Giving a voice to the struggle and emotions that poured off the pages and into my heart, this twisted me up a few times. Prescott lane put me in “their” shoes. In their hurt. In their world of pain....and I'm thankful for that.

I like to find authors that can write a book that moves me. I like reading ones that tug at my heart. I love ones that are gritty and angsty and have me clawing at my stomach because I can't take the angst anymore. This one had 2 out of 3. While it wasn't angsty, it moved me and I honestly felt the pain and the agony these characters went through. I equally love that the agony was shared by FOUR characters (mainly) and the love story wasn't lost in it all.

You can argue selfishness or selflessness with this story, and neither side will be correct. The way things played out was nothing short of aggravatingly emotional and I really enjoyed it.

"Love is immeasurable. But when it's the right fit, you just know."

Hello minority! Here I am!!!

I loved the cover and I was thrilled by the synopsis.
I saw the ratings and also took a few glimpses at the reviews.
And then I started reading it with excitement because it felt like I would be swept off my feet. 42 chapters and epilogue.

I struggled to finish chapters 1-17, they were so full of past and present day, in order to find out what had finally happened to Rhett and Ainsley. And I kept reading and expecting to reach to a point where I would be moved by strong and heartbreaking emotions. Of course I was sad for what happened to Rhett and the characters went through great ordeals, however I wasn’t as moved as I expected to be.
Only the last 6 chapters managed to bring out some emotions, but my interest had already faded in order to just love this story.

Just when I thought I couldn't love Prescott Lane anymore than I already did, she went and delivered JUST LOVE, a romance at it's best, that had me falling in love a thousand more times.

Just Love was the kind of romance I love to read about—with unexpected twists, a touching plot, irreplaceable friendships, and words that hit you right in the feels and worm its way into your heart and soul ♥.

Prescott Lane delivers a story that is both beautiful and heartbreaking, and once again proves why she is one of my most favorite authors. Because Just Love wasn't just a book, but an experience—a true love experience. A love story that you won't forget—passionate, emotionally intense, and utterly consuming.

From ugly crying to sweet and sexy, this books was EVERYTHING ♥, the emotions were so intense that they will stay with you long after the last page. Get ready for Ainsley & Rhett to break your heart, but I guarantee that they will put it back together again. Best of 2019.

“Falling in love is easy. Holding on to that love- that’s the real bitch. There’s two sides to every love story. The how you fell in love, and the how you fell apart.”

Just love by Prescott Lane was an emotional life long journey and the discovery of not only finding your one true love, but somehow managing to hold on to that love especially when life throws you one hell of a curve ball.

Rhett has been very successful in his career as a veterinarian. He has a thriving practice with his best friend, he’s a gentleman, and his love for animals knows no end. Life couldn’t be any more better at this moment or at least that what he thinks. When his best friend’s little sister moves back to their hometown, Rhett is about to experience something truly foreign for the first time. Forbidden temptation.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ainsley has always been a lover of love. From watching her parents have a love story that some people only read about, she knew what was the right kind of love and she wanted nothing more to experience that kind of earth shattering feeling. With that in mind, she creates beautiful wedding dress for other people hoping to bring something extra special on their day. Now back home, Ainsley has plans of opening up her own boutique and making a name for herself. But little does she know, is that her life is about to change drastically when she sees the one man who has always been there for her for the past ten years.

I’m going to admit that I was not expecting this kind of story. I knew that it was going to be a somewhat emotional romance and that the storyline was about a guy falling for his best friend’s little sister and I was more than okay with that. But we got so much more than that. There were tough struggles that would make anyone waver, heartache that was too much at times, unbelievable stupidity that had me wanting to shake these characters because we saw the sacrifices they were making, and most of all, we felt the love. There were no questions about it because It was something that we got to witness. The falling in love part was not the hardest, it was staying together.

Rhett and Ainsley’s love story was just that: a love story. I’m happy that I got to experience their love, their joy, and the heartbreak because every single thing made them stronger. As I said before, their road wasn’t easy but when you think about it, what love story ever is?

If you’re looking for a different emotional romance, then you should really give this one a try.

Is it just me that gets annoyed and can’t stop rolling my eyes at those 4, 5 stars reviews and their melodramatic sentences?? Does anyone still fall for those: “this story is so captivating” “It’s so much more than second chance” “it’s so beautiful and pulled on my heartstrings” “you love, you hate, the characters “ “you understand their choices because made sense at that time” “so emotional” “heartbreaking” blah blah blah. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️Give me a break. So generic and the same as all others.

In my “maybe “ because I am waiting for the real reviews. Why a friend can’t date your sister?? Why befriend someone if you don’t trust them around your family?? In my culture this is a very weird conception. Aren’t we supposed to befriend people we trust?? 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Like I said: WEIRD

I do enjoy this trope.."falling for your best friends sister". A contemporary romance with this trope makes for an addictive read. They are always emotional, angsty and filled with humour... Just love by Prescott Lane is a solid 4 star read for me with it's beautiful and emotional storyline.

Firstly, I couldn't start this review without making mention of the cover! It is stunning! Now I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but if you are already going into it with a smile, its got to be a plus.

This novel took me on so many paths before we got to the epilogue, that at first I was unsure if it was for me. There are two parts to the novel, and the first part is a little jumpy with past and present times and the two different lead characters. Once I got that worked out, it flowed much better. At one point, I thought I knew where the storyline was going, but at the half way mark, I was totally wrong. And it surprised me in a good way, a sad way, but it gave the book more spunk and backbone. It also made the present time, part one, make more sense in their choices. I hope that isn't too cryptic, as I do not want to give anything away. Its a story that you need to travel and explore on your own.

What I will tell you is these characters had me liking them, loving them, hating them, loving them, so you can see I got all the ambience I am sure the author was trying to convey. Yes, it is a brothers best friend trope, as well as a second chance romance, but it is so much more than that. There is definitely angst, and the good angst that has your heart beating fast, and holding your breath waiting for the outcome. At times, I was mad at them both, but when you truly take in what had happened, and how can things ever be the same, it wasn't until the last few chapters, when Rhett was showing her, that I put myself in their shoes. I have no idea how I would handle the situation, and I would hope with the same grace that Ainsley did, but they both had to come to terms with it and go through all the emotions. And then, I 'just' wanted to hug them both and be excited for their future.

Lastly, I cherished that epilogue. It was the best conclusion for this couple and it made my heart melt. This is the first book I have read from this author and I know I will be looking out for more from her.

‘Real love happens in both giving and receiving. You have to give to another person, and you have to let them give to you. Rhett wouldn’t let me love him.’

This is our first read by Prescott Lane, and we loved it. And whilst it might be titled Just Love, there was nothing ‘just‘ about it. This soulmate friend to lovers, best friends little sister romance was heartfelt, emotional, moving and sincere. A story highlighting the strength of love and the determination of the human spirit. A beautiful first encounter with this authors words.

‘Falling in love is easy. Holding on to that love – well, that’s the real bitch. There are two sides to every love story.’

Just Love centres on Ainsley Rose and Rhett Bennett. Two friends who have been through their fair share of heartache. Rhett, together with Ainsley’s older brother, Brody and his girlfriend Sky, who is also Ainsley’s best friend, all pretty much raised Ainsley when her and Brody lost their parents at a very young age.

‘Love has done some serious damage.’

Ainsley is back in Charleston after being away, living in the same building complex as Rhett. Unbeknownst to Ainsley and Rhett, each has harboured some pretty intense feelings – emotionally and physically, and one night, they take their friendship a step further, starting a clandestine relationship behind Brody’s back, not knowing how he would react to his playboy buddy dating his little sister. Things become serious and we find out through present/past flashbacks from the time their friendship shifted out of the friend zone to the current day, when their world had been torn apart.

As their relationship unfolded we were unexpectedly thrown into sadness when Ainsley and Rhett’s world is torn apart. But it wasn’t just Ainsley and Rhett who were affected, so were Rhett’s parents who were a sweet and regular presence in the story, together with Brody and Sky. It was heartbreaking.

“You look at me and remember us falling in love, our friendship. I remember the pain, the pain of sitting and waiting for you.”

How Rhett dealt with his anger, confusion and pain left Ainsley bereft. Her heart full of love and hope was dashed when Rhett decided the most decent thing he could do for Ainsley was to push her away, however, Rhett didn’t count on the tenacity of this young lady and the durability of her heart.

“Don’t try to win her back only to change your mind again.”
“I’m sure I love her.”
“You have to be sure you can let her love you.”

We loved all the relationships – especially Rhett and Sadie, his beautiful and faithful dog. As dog lovers ourselves, Rhett’s relationship with Sadie resonated with us in many ways.

The story itself is one we haven’t experienced to this degree before and we loved the humour and sensitivity Prescott Lane injected into Rhett and Ainsley’s story. It’s a credit to this author because this could have so easily been heavy and morbid. Whilst we did feel the emotion of the story, we didn’t quite experience the huge heart-wrenching impact we were hoping for. The sexy titbits, the sweet banter, and the epilogue completed the story beautifully.

”The first time we kissed, I felt my whole world shatter and fall into place at the same time.”

Prescott Lane delivers another stunning story with Just Love. You think you know what’s going to happen as it’s a best friends little sister story, but it is SO MUCH MORE. This story is supremely developed with rich characters and so much heart.

Rhett and Ainsley’s story is sweet and tumultuous and they need to heal each other to come back together. You can’t forget the side characters as well! Brody and Skye are fabulous in this one!

The ultimate in heart and feels, Just Love was fabulous!

JUST LOVE consumed me from the very first page and I could not put it down! Needless to say, my husband was constantly yelling at me to stop reading! Obviously he has never read a Prescott Lane novel because as I quickly learned, once you start there is no way to stop. I want to devour her stories, each and every one of them as she just crushed my heart and left me crying. JUST LOVE did not disappoint. Prescott Lane, you owe me a box of tissues! There isn’t a single thing about this book that I didn’t love. It was wonderful, mesmerizing, hypnotizing, heartbreaking and breathtaking.

This is going to be a shorter review because my honest opinion is that it’s best to go into JUST LOVE knowing as little as possible about the actual story so I won’t tell you anything that’ll ruin the experience here. But I can say that I was hooked from the very first page and completely drawn into these characters’ lives. I loved that the story was serious but little parts made me laugh out loud which broke up the more emotionally charged scenes. I swooned, proclaimed my undying love for JUST LOVE, and had to take many breaks to wipe the tears that were flowing freely down my face more than once. Best book I’ve read in 2019!!

Once I started reading JUST LOVE I discovered that there’s even more to this story than meets the eye. There’s an added layer to it that I absolutely loved but that I won’t mention because discovering it as you read is honestly the best. One of the things I love most about Prescott Lane’s writing is how deeply she makes me care for her characters and how strongly she makes me feel for them. Deception and pain, love and loss, secrets and truths, hope and redemption—they all twist and tangle together creating another unforgettable novel from one of the freshest and most trusted voices in romance. Finally, you need to read this one. It will surprise, shock, impress, grip and absorb you into its story. And those wonderful characters, how happy I am for having ‘met’ them! They will stick with me for a very long time. I just know the same thing will happen for you…

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Social Butterfly. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

‘Falling in love is easy. Holding on to that love - well that’s the real bitch. There’s two sides to every love story. The how you fell in love, and the how you fell apart.’

Bro code can be a complicated and sometimes loose agreement that happens between guys. Staying away from a girl your mate is interested in, not going near their ex girlfriend or wife and being each other’s wingman sometimes fall into this ‘code.’ Staying away from your mates younger sister is also one.

Brody and Rhett have been best friends since they were young. Brody lost his parents in a tragic accident just after he left for college. He then took on the guardianship and care of his sister, six years younger than him. She moved in with him and Rhett while they were in college and they became their own version of a family.

After Ainsley graduated high school and went off to college, Rhett didn’t see her as much as he used to, in fact it’s been a few years now. Rhett and Brody now have a successful partnership in their veterinary clinic where they work together every day. When Ainsley decides to come back to their hometown, Brody moves her into his old apartment, one floor down from Rhett. Brody is engaged to be married to his long time girlfriend Skye so they are now settled in their own home.

When Rhett first sees Ainsley again his eyes just about pop out of his head. She has grown from teenager into a gorgeous young woman. His body is having trouble remembering the bro code. This could spell a lot of trouble for him, the flirtation coming from Ainsley is not helping. He needs to take a very wide berth of her while they are living in such close proximity.

After doing his best to keep things purely platonic between them, they begin to spend more time together, it just happens naturally by walking his dog Sadie with Ainsley each night. They enjoy each others company and Rhett is enjoying getting to know Ainsley all over again. When things between them cross into breaking bro code territory there isn’t much they can do to stop it. The attraction and desire takes over and fear of what Brody will think.

‘I know she’s never done anything like this before. She’s a relationship woman, which should scare me off, but my dick is driving this train.’

After the decision to go with what is happening between them is made it’s full speed ahead. Rhett is not a relationshippy person but Ainsley has him wanting and feeling things he hasn’t done before. They know that they will have to come clean sometime soon but thrill of sneaking around is so much fun right now. When things seem to be heading into a more permanent vibe Rhett bites the bullet and tells Brody the truth about him and Ainsley. Needless to say, it does not go well. At all.

However, this is where this story takes a very dramatic plot twist. One I won’t even touch on here because I don’t want to spoil anything for you. This story is told in the past & present, slipping back and forth between the two which helps build the story and explain how things got to where they are. Get your tissues ready for this one readers, this story has so much more depth to it than what is touched on in the blurb. A fantastic, page turning, emotional and gut punching read. I. Felt. Everything!

Ok, so I read this. I was prepared to hate it after reading the blurb and think I even discussed it with another reader. But finding anything decent to read has become too much work lately and I was unfamiliar with the writer - who seems highly rated - so I thought what the hell.

Surprisingly, I did not hate it. It didn't suck. It wasn't the best I've ever read and many reviews were a little too effusive, but anything that doesn't make me grind my teeth these days I consider a win.

The blurb is misleading. It hints that the problem between Ainsley and Rhett is the whole 'best friend's little sister' dynamic, and while that is certainly an issue early on and the brother, Brody, has his twat-ish monents, I don't agree that he's the central issue.
Rhett isn't a relationship guy and is a little knocked sideways by the development of his feelings for Ainsley. He'd helped raise her along with best mate Brody and Brody's gf Skye following the death of Ainsley and Brody's parents when Ainsley was 15.
But once they explore the feelings between them, she is it for him and he for her. No manwhore/virgin b.s. here. Ainsley is 6 years younger than Rhett, but not a blushing innocent.

The story proceeds in chapters from the present alternated with flashbacks to a year and a half past and it's apparent in the 'present' chapters that Ainsley and Rhett are no longer. Ainsley has been forced out of Rhett's life and he is just...gone.

Most of this story comes from Rhett's POV. But we hear of the life-altering event that removes him from Ainsley's life from her. Rhett and Brody own a veterinarian clinic together and Rhett is not just gone from Ainsley, he's gone from Brody. He's just gone and doesn't want to be found.

There wasn't anything wrong with the book, per se, but I had some issues with it. I didn't connect with the characters like I wanted to, for two reasons. One, this is a highly emotional plot mostly narrated by a more pragmatic, male voice. The nuances that would have made it more moving are missing and it comes off too matter of fact.

Two, the writer is a 'teller' instead of a 'shower.' Surprising in that she is no novice and telling vs. showing tendency is more typical of rookie writers. I found it rather annoying in this instance because the event that changes everything is skipped entirely. We know it happens, but not what led to it, and not enough afterward to really connect to it. And what we do know we are told after the fact. Like, "so here we are because this, this and that happened."
Very frustrating, and for me anyway, it was too difficult to invest emotion in a story laid out in such a fashion.

Although the writing is good and the characters realistic, there's a disconnect there that I couldn't get past, unfortunately. The most heartbreaking moment in the entire story involved a dog, and that is telling. I should have been feeling for what happened to Rhett and his relationships, not his dog, awesome as she was. Had the writer been able to elicit those feelings for her characters, I would have been satisfied.

I've learned that this writer either does it for you or she doesn't, and I reckon I'm in the 'doesn't' column.
But if you're looking for something that isn't full of tropes that piss you off, this book is a safe choice. There are no exes involved. The characters are relatable and realistically flawed, although at first I found Ainsley a bit of a Mary Sue. The separation between the H and h is not for a stupid or contrived reason. It's actually quite realistic given what precipitated it, it was simply the presentation that was lacking.
My quibbles with it notwithstanding, this is a solid story that shouldn't stand on anyone's last nerve.
Like I said when I began, I'll take it as a win.

3 stars.

"If love should be anything, it should be honest."

There are books you like. There are books you adore. And there are books like Just Love- the books, that are getting under your skin and will stay with you forever. Everything concerning this story is beautiful. From the gorgeous and eye-catching cover, through interesting and original plot, to the unique and loveable characters. But for me the most important is a message this story carries- love is a two-way street. And it’s not about giving. It’s about receiving. Do you allow others to love you fully? Or are you unknowingly drawing the line somewhere?

Rhett knows Ainsley for a long time. She’s his friend’s little sister and after their parents death Rhett helped to raise her. At first she was like a sister to him, but in the course of time his feelings changed from brotherly to something way different. But Rhett drew the line where Ainslin was concerned. He didn’t want to jeopardize his friendship with her brother and besides, he didn’t believe in marriage and everlasting love. But just when Ainsley get back from the college and moved in the same building as Rhett, deeply hidden feelings started to get out. Something that started as casual fun became deeper and more intense. And just when happily ever after was waiting nearby, life decided to put love between Rhett and Ainsley to the biggest test.

I can’t count how many times I needed to grab a tissue to wipe my eyes. Prescott Lane didn’t write a simple brother-best-friend’s romance. Compared to other events in this book, this trope became just a background and the way the love between main characters was born. But the heartbreak, devastation and then attempts to save this love took over the reins in this story. Yes, Prescott Lane stabbed me straight in my heart, but I wasn’t only crying during this read. There were also sweet, swoon-worthy moments, incredibly passionate and sexy times, funny and laughable parts. And although Ainsley and Rhett’s love story is gut-wrenching, emotionally charged and intense, it’s one of the most beautiful tales I’ve ever read. With this book Prescott Lane got herself a fan for life. I can’t wait to read more stories from this author.

Highly recommend!

Rhett Bennett and Ainsley Rose have a lifetime of memories together, with Ainsley's older brother Brody relying on him to help parent her after their parent's pass away. Along with Brody's girlfriend, the four of them have been inseparable since their youth, the only rule being that they always protect Ainsley and she's always treated as the little sister. Little sisters grow up though and even Rhett, the womanizer, can't deny that he wants to know where the spark they share could go. Romances aren't always just fun though, even Ainsley's fairy tale romance ideas can't save love.

"They always say when you're in love you glow, but no one ever talks about what you look like when you lose love, when it punches you in the gut."

I picked up Just Love, fell in love with the gorgeous cover, and immediately grabbed a pile of tissues and settled in for a cry fest. Prescott Lane is one of my favorite angsty romance writers, she always knows how to pull emotions right out of me. Told from dual perspectives, Just Love follows Ainsley (A. Rose) and Rhett as they tackle the past and present of their love story that never stood a chance. Ainsley is the believer in love, fairytales, and princes that sweep brides off their feet, meanwhile Rhett believes in beautiful women, fun times, and fast flings. The rule that you never go after your best friend's sibling should hold him back, but it doesn't and we see them connect in a beautiful way before everything goes up in flames. I had absolutely no idea about the journey we were going to go on with these two, Prescott Lane totally surprised me with the twists in this. Just Love tackles difficult topics relating to love, loss, hopes, dreams, futures, and the perseverance each of those require. It's a beautiful, epic, heart wrenching story that I'm thankful I made the time for.

I will say that the dual perspective and switching from past to present was very confusing at first and I found myself having to be extra careful to check the chapter headings prior to reading. For me this took away from the reading, especially when I realized a few chapters in that I was so lost in the story that I had to start over. Once you get into the swing of things though it moves along quite smoothly, so I only deducted half a star for that small bit of confusion.

"This is the exact way we started. Are we starting over?"

Just Love is a romance roller coaster ride, the kind you line up for again and again despite the feelings it pulls from you. Prescott Lane once again delivers a passionate, heartfelt romance that readers are sure to love.

Wow. I am still reeling days after finishing Just Love, and I am not sure I can write anything to do this story or these characters justice. It is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful, deeply affecting and utterly unforgettable love stories that I’ve ever read, and I’ve rarely felt so connected to or invested in a happily ever after as I was with Ainsley and Rhett’s. Their journey is gut-wrenchingly real, incredibly moving and downright epic, and while it is emotionally intense and sure to induce ugly-crying, it is also tender, funny and seriously sexy. It. Is. Everything. Prescott Lane runs the reader through the gamut of emotions and leaves us an exhausted, satisfied mess, and Just Love is a truly epic, timeless romance that is impossible to put down and hard to let go.

Avoiding looking at me, she says, “That was fun.” “Not just fun,” I whisper, tilting her chin up. “It’s just love.”

Never judge a book by its cover, right? Ha, who am I kidding? I've read terrible, horrible, God awful books because they had brilliant covers. And, on the flip side, I've read amazing books with covers that were MEH. But I'm here to tell you that in the case of Just Love, it all worked out in that magical way where not only is the cover STUNNING, but the story is as well.

I wish I could tell you all the reasons why this book ripped my heart out of my chest and stomped on it, but I can't. I know us book bloggers say, "it's best to go in blind," when we want to be vague, but I honestly think in Just Love's case, it's true. Obviously, by reading the synopsis, you can tell that the plot involves a relationship falling apart, but what you don't know is HOW and WHY...and the how and why are what made me fall in love with this story. The "not knowing" made more of an impact, and I feel I would be doing this book a disservice if I shared that secret in a book review.

I'll just say this: have tissues ready. This book broke my heart and put it back together, and I'm so glad I read it.

I'm certain I will be reading more of Prescott Lane's books in the future. Her book and writing style are the reason I love independently published books; they're labors of love, and it shows.

Review by Jen Skewes

I have read just about all of Prescott Lane's books and loved them all. There are books of hers that make you laugh some that take you on an emotional ride, some that break your heart, and while they may all be different in their own way, her stories aways manage to capture you from the very beginning. Just Love is a little different, I think both from what I have read and what Ms. Lane has written. And I mean that in a really good way. You still feel all the feels and are sucked in from the very beginning. It took me on an emotional ride from start to finish and I loved every second of it.

This is a second chance romance of sorts. I only say that because honestly I think there is so much more to this story than that. Just Love starts in the present with Rhett's thoughts. We find out that him and Ainsley, the love of his life, are no longer together. All we know is that he pushed her away but we don't know why. Something tore them part and I couldn't wait to find out.

Ms. Lane then takes us on a journey back to the past to see how their love story began. How Rhett came to fall in love with his best friend's sister. Seeing the two of them go from friends to lovers was beautiful to watch but you knew that something ultimately broke them apart, and the entire time you are trying to guess what it was. The story goes back and forth from past to present, never once feeling lost along the way. It flowed perfectly and you could in some ways see the connection between the past part of the story to the present. I am not sure if that a makes sense but when you read the book it will.

At some point in the story you do find out what happens and it will break your heart. It was not what I expected. As I watched their love story unfold it broke my heart to know that they weren't together, but I think knowing the truth broke me even more. Seeing the two of them coping with the aftermath of their break-up, dealing with seeing each other for the first time in over a year. And most importantly trying to find their way back to each other was just as beautiful to watch as their blossoming love. It was a hard road back to each other, one filled with a lot of pain, but in the end it is all worth it because your heart will be pieced perfectly together again. For me the moment when Rhett finally opens up, the moment you see that he is truly all in, heart and soul was everything!! It was such a special moment, including what happened next. It was absolutely perfect.

At the end of this book Ms. Lane writes about her experience in writing this book and her thoughts on it. I just want to say how much I applaud her for writing this book and how perfectly written it was. It flowed flawlessly, and everything about this book felt real. When I review a book I usually go into more detail about the plot and the characters and my feelings on both. But this book doesn't need a recap at all. It is one of those books that you just need to go in blind and savor every moment, every word and just feel every emotion. Trust me, you will thank me in the end. A beautiful love story!!!

I loved this story!! Thanks Angie for the book love on this one!! I couldn’t get enough of these two. A reminder that love can conquer it all. Not easily, not without hardships but at the end of the day we fall in love with the heart of a person. The reason is beyond the surface and has to be revered and nurtured. Believed whole-heartily in able to receive it. This was an inspiring reminder of real love. Made me tear up like twice. I barely ever do that!! Thank you Ms. Lane for this gem.
