When valuable shit that—surprise!—isn’t insured gets lost or stolen, the desperate rich and the otherworldly call on me. Rescue and recovery are my specialties, and I’m damn good at what I do. So, it's not much of a shock when one of the country’s wealthiest women hires me to retrieve a stolen pearl necklace known as The Mermaid’s Lament.
A straightforward job, I think—except the thief and the pearls have seemingly fallen off the Earth, the necklace is actually owned by a pissed-off sea goddess, and a whole slew of magicals are doing their best to stop me.
Oh, and the necklace has a pretty intense magical power of its own.
With only a few days to find and return the Mermaid’s Lament or see my state drowned under seawater, the clock is definitely ticking. My name is Shay Greene and I’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done.
If you like complete-in-each-book urban fantasy with a new take on gods and goddesses, then you'll love The Mermaid's Lament. Perfect for fans of K.F. Breene, John Conroe, and Lindsey Buroker.

I loved this book and I devoured it in one go. It is situated in the same world as Oona Goodlight, but all the characters are completely new, as well as most of the locations. Shay is an interesting character. Due to her striking physical appearance she stands out. She also possesses strong elemental magic and incredible tracking abilities. She is a well known in supernatural community as an investigator specialised in rescue and recovery, although very few have met her due to her reclusive lifestyle, loner personality, and freelancing through an employer. She is also stronger than she appears. Curious by nature, Shay applies for a regular job for the wealthiest person out there, and the adventure starts. The plot is full of suspense and fast paced action, interesting creatures and beings, as well as locations. There are numerous interesting characters next to Shay and I am very curious to see which ones will become regular in the series. The author's writing is superb as expected. The world is already there, so I did not expect so much world building but there are so many new locations and creatures not seen in the previous series. The character development is very gradual and slow, which adds to the mystery of each of the characters. Shay might be a loner by nature, but the rest of them are deliberately keeping secrets. I know they will eventually come to light, s some of them did by the end of the book, and I can't wait to see what they are. This is a great new series and I will be happily anticipating the next book(s). And this is a great author and I love her work.
Urban fantasy mystery romp. Fiesty Shaye Green, goddess, demigods, witches and Gould all in a race to recover Calypso's stolen pearls ..and there is a deadline after which Calypso will flood California. Well paced, great characters Definitely will read the next one in the series. With a little more humour this could be a great family film. Certainly brightened up my weekend.
Sorry, there was nothing special about this book. And I really wanted to give two stars because I just don’t think there was anything above and beyond, but it wasn’t poorly written or a really awful plot, hence the 3 stars. It was an interesting read but just bland and some parts didn’t make a lot of sense ( I don’t know if that’s because I skimmed more towards the end) it just got to be a little monotonous and the characters weren’t bad but there wasn’t a lot of development or depth. The idea is there, but not the follow through
Shayna has elemental magic, which means she can control the elements. When she is hired to retrieve the necklace “The Mermaid’s Lament”, she suddenly finds herself surrounded by all sorts of magical people, and she is not the only one of them looking for the necklace! This enjoyable read is part urban fantasy, part mystery, and a lot of the mystery in the book is really around who or what the characters are. It’s a complete story, set in a series, no cliffhangers. Recommended for those who enjoy urban fantasy.
I wish this book had been longer. It was well written and fun works building in a world we sorest know adding other elements to make it work for the plot. Nice take on the Greek mythology god/goddesses demigods. Overall I’m excited for book 2. Best of all no cliffhanger! Oh & well edited! Thank the goddesses!!!
Great characters but pretty slow character development. The world building is great as well. This is my first book by this author and I look forward to finding out what happens next with these characters.

I ENJOYED READING THE MERMAID’S LAMENT. I THOUGHT THE AUTHOR DID A GREAT JOB ON THE STORY AND IT HELD MY INTEREST THROUGHOUT. I LOVED THE CHARACTERS AND FOUND THEM WELL DEVELOPED. I WOULD RECOMMEND READING.

Gift or curse. Being able to control earth, wind, fire and rain Puts a target on you. Love having to use my imagination to picture some of these things.
This is book one and I loved getting to know Shay! This is well written and has some pretty great characters! I look forward to more from this series!!
