Mary Alford - Hallowed Ground After a terrorist attack claims the life of her partner, CIA Agent Erin Sandoval would not have survived Blake’s death without the help of fellow agent, Jax Murphy. When Erin’s unit is deployed to Afghanistan to find the elusive terrorist the CIA believes responsible for taking Blake’s life, the mission proves to be a setup, wiping out almost the entire team. As the only survivors of the attack, Erin and Jax must cut through a wealth of lies and misdirections to uncover the killer’s identity. Yet nothing prepares them for the truth, and the biggest threat to their survival might prove to be their growing feelings for each other. When you’re running for your life, the most dangerous place to fall is in love. Lynnette Bonner - Fire Years ago, teacher Kyra Radell’s brother died because of drugs, so when students in her school start buying a new street drug called Fire—and dying because of it—she’s determined to help. He wants her to stay safe, but she’s not willing to listen to a mere student. Can he protect her and keep his cover intact? More importantly, will he be able to find the drug dealer before any more students—or teachers—die? Lesley Ann McDaniel - Jill Came Tumbling After Jill Martin has finally kicked her alcoholic husband to the curb. Now, with two kids and no money, she has no choice but to take a job at the new factory that’s about to open in Madison Falls. When she begins to suspect that the owner plans to illegally dispose of toxic waste, will she be strong enough to blow the whistle…or will her boss do whatever it takes to keep her quiet? Dead on Arrival - Angela Ruth Strong The daughter of the Peruvian President, Maritza Rosado, arrives in Washington D.C. only to discover the world thinks both she and her father died on a plane crash in the Amazon. Worse, the man she’d once considered an uncle has taken over her nation and ordered two consulate workers in the U.S. to assassinate her. Desperate and alone in a foreign country, she hides out in a soup kitchen where youth group leader Levi Parker recognizes her from a recent mission to Peru and wants to help. Can they possibly take down the crime ring together, or will Levi’s involvement do nothing more than put his life—and the life of every teen in his youth group—at risk? Virginia Vaughan – For Love or Money Amy Sullivan left everything familiar to meet an aunt she didn’t know she had. She’s searching for a family connection, yet gets much more when she’s named sole heir to her aunt’s fortune. But someone in this sleepy, southern town doesn’t want Amy to live long enough to collect that inheritance. Deputy Tate Mitchell is determined to discover who wants the money for themselves—and who is willing to kill Amy to get it.
LYNNETTE BONNER, the daughter of missionaries, was born and raised in Malawi, Africa, graduated high school from Rift Valley Academy, a boarding school in Kenya, and attended Northwest University in Washington, where she met her husband, Marty. A few years after their marriage, they moved to Pierce, Idaho. While studying the history of their little town, Lynnette was inspired to begin The Shepherd’s Heart Series with Rocky Mountain Oasis. Marty and Lynnette have four children and currently live in Washington, where Marty pastors a church.
This boxed set was a mixed bag of mediocre, better, and awful. By far the most disappointing story was For Love or Money. Ms Vaughn had a decent plot idea, but the story was disorganized and not credible. At one point in the book Irene described her elopement and the stir it had caused, but later when Max told the same story, Amy was surprised. Early in the tale Max accosted and threatened Amy, but near the end they are introduced as strangers. Ms. Vaughn should have used an outline and an editor. Even character names were inconsistent.
The Lisa Phillips novel was good, and Alana Terry always tackles tough issues with surprising empathy and insight. Mary Alford’s Hallowed Ground was poorly researched and woefully inaccurate. Lynnette Bonner’s Fire was a little more believable and a better story, but a little trite. I can’t imagine why this hodgepodge became a boxed set.

If you enjoy Christian suspense, look no further. Here are a host of great authors to keep your heart racing as they ratchet up the suspense. Priced wonderfully well and great reads. Some of the authors I hadn't read yet, but favorites here are Mary Alford, Angela Ruth Strong and Virginia Vaughan. Recommended.
I have read all the books in this collection and enjoyed them tremendously. Hallowed Ground by Mary Alford is a truly thrilling and fantastic read. Surprise ending for me. Fire by Lynnette Bonner is a fear in my throat fantastic story. Jill Came Tumbling After by Lesley Ann McDaniel is extremely suspenseful. Deadly Exposure by Lisa Phillips wow, what a read. Termination Dust by Alana Terry is terrifying but well done. Dead on Arrival by Angela Ruth Strong was a little hard for me to follow at times, but quite scary. For Love or Money by Virginia Vaughn had a good story line but really suffered greatly from lots of errors. Could have used another read through for editing purposes. Collection would have been a 5 star if this one book was better edited.
Just finished Dead on Arrival by Angela Ruth Stong. Tremendous faith, great twists, and more suspense than I thought I could handle! Great work! I received a copy of this book from one of the authors. This in no way affected my opinions and I was not required to leave a positive review.
I really enjoyed the first two stories. They had great story lines with few editing errors. But stories three and four, I did not enjoy the story line and there were quite a few small editing mistakes. Story five, I liked the storyline but there were major editing errors like she instead of he and missing and switching words making some sentences unreadable. However, I would buy the collection for stories one and two alone.
This boxed set had some wonderful stories by some wonderful authors!
Mary Alford: Hallowed Ground
Erin and Jax. A CIA story that will break your heart at the treasonous outcome, but you will fall in love with Erin and Jax as they fall deeper in love with each other.
Lynnette Bonner: Fire
The heartbreak of high school and Drugs. Case and Kyra are such great characters. This story will keep your brain spinning trying to figure out who the bad guy is. You know who it is. And then you change your mind. And then you change it again. And then you wonder if there’s more than one, and then... You won’t want to put the book down until you know and Case can go back to being the hottie that he is! 😁
Lesley Ann McDaniel: Jill Came Tumbling Down
Jill has to make hard choices as her husband Caleb ruins their lives... drinking, no groceries, bills not paid. As she watches Sam’s relationship with Grace go through some tough spots she wonders if she chose the right guy. Sam is so dependable and always there for her. And she starts a job that has her questioning everything. Will she come out of all of it alive and sane?
Lisa Philips: Deadly Exposure
Brad finds that his sister, Rachel the Senator, has been kidnapped. The key suspect is her best friend and Brad’s former friend, Alexis. The past keeps getting in the way of finding evidence it’s not Alexis behind the kidnapping. And they are having trouble finding Rachel. This was a pretty intense story also. Hard to put down.
Angela Ruth Strong: Dead on Arrival
Levi enjoys Mission work. He takes a group of kids on a short trip to hopefully learn some compassion and love for the homeless and to see that their are people with real problems.
Maritza is the daughter of the President of Peru who is coming to visit the United States. An arrival gone bad, she finds herself in the run and stumbles into the soup kitchen where Levi and his group are helping out. The whole story takes place in two days I believe it is, maybe three. Very fast paced. A whole lot of stuff happens and it doesn’t look like it will end well. A few surprises, turns and twists. Very good story!
Alana Terry: Termination Dust
The changing of the seasons.
Kimmie is in a bad situation with an abusive step-father. But she can’t leave without her step-brother, Pip. Enter officer Taylor who knows there are problems but doesn’t know how to help without evidence. All kinds of twists and turns to show the mentality of a person stuck in such a situation that you think would be logical to get out of! In the end, Taylor is there for Kimmie and Pip and all works out.
Virginia Vaughan: For Love or Money
I wanted to give this boxed set a 5 star rating, but sadly the last story by Virginia Vaughan ruined it for me. There were some glaring issues with it. The story line was a good one. But there were tons of editing errors and dumb mistakes like Jenny’s husband had at least 3 different names, as did other names change throughout the story. She forgot to mention Tate and Amy’s first kiss which apparently was really something else or she missed telling us about several of them since Tate’s uncle walked in on them sometime. Irene told Amy about her relationship with Max and then way later in the story Max tells Amy and she can’t understand why Irene never told her. Bad, bad, bad mistakes! Good story just seriously needed an editor!!!
Hallowed Ground by Mary Alford Jax and his crew are on a mission in Afghanistan when they lose one of their own. Blake’s partner Erin and best friend Jax, miss him and want to find and bring to justice his killer. Jax is called in to send his team on a fake mission. When they are ambushed they start for the race of their lives, wondering who they can trust and who they can’t. Gripping story, with a lot of action. Fire by Lynette Bonner Case is put on an undercover case to root out a drug dealer that is distributing a new drug. Kyra is a young woman he met just before he was sent on this assignment. Turns out she’s his teacher for a couple classes, and is very curious about him. Especially when she had thought he was older than a senior in high school. A couple suspects are on the forefront through much of this, but the real culprit isn’t known til close to the end. Good story and characters and hard to put down. Jill Came Tumbling Down by Lesley Ann McDaniel Jill forces her husband to move out, and hopefully deal with his alcoholism. Finding she needs a job, she manages to land one at a new company on the outskirts of town. The stress of getting on tops of bills, and learning a new job drive a good portion of the story, until she sees something suspicious. This one keeps a steady pace and interest throughout, but once the suspicion sets in it picks up. Deadly Exposure by Lisa Harris Bradley is back in his hometown and looking forward to seeing his sister Rachel. She’s invited Alexis and Bradley over the same evening, but she’s kidnapped before he gets a chance to see her. This one starts out fast paced and doesn’t let up until the final chapter. Great intro to this series, and looking forward to reading the rest and learning more about the people at Double Down. Dead on Arrival by Angela Ruth Strong Maritza and her father and body guard land in Washington DC, only to have some Peruvians that had been hired to take them out, manage to do so….with the exception of Martiza. She’s on the run, and Levi feels impressed to try and keep her safe. Both are pushed to the limits in this escapade, trying to stay alive and find out why she’s been targeted, as well as who to trust. Attention riveting story that is very hard to put down. Termination Dust by Alana Terry Kimmie’s mom is dead and all she wants to do is figure out a way to get herself and her baby brother out of her stepfather’s house. She blames her mom for never getting the courage to leave her abusive husband. When Kimmie gets the chance she’s out of there, but will she and Pip be safe? Her sister Meg and Trooper Taylor Tanner are other main characters. Wonderful story, though sad parts due to the abuse. It will keep your attention throughout. For Love or Money by Virginia Vaughan Amy is on her way to Westhaven to live with an aunt she never knew she had. She’s pulled over upon arriving in town by Tate, who was taken advantage of in the past and doesn’t trust out of towners. Her Aunt Irene is happy to see her, and Amy has many adjustments to make, as well as trying to figure out Tate’s on again, off again, feelings towards her. Some others don’t like her arrival in town, or her Aunt and questionable things happen. A page turning story, with the suspense and identity of the culprit not known until close to the end.
Dead on Arrival, part of the Exposed collection by Angela Ruth Strong
Lighthearted Christian romantic suspense
My rating is 4.5 stars
Please note that Dead on Arrival is part of the Exposed multi-author collection. When you click on the links here, do not be surprised to see a different cover than the one shown here.
Levi never expected his mission trip leading the youth group in ministry to the homeless to turn into a run for his life. Yet when he recognized the beautiful daughter of the Peruvian president, the entire trajectory of his trip turned into a nightmare as he helped her to escape from the assassins pursuing her.
At first glance, Levi was very casual – to the point that Maritza thought he looked like a beach bum. Yet he was intensely romantic, extremely dedicated to serving God, responsible and protective. I loved how he worked to ensure the safety of the youth group in his care in the midst of running from the gunmen with Maritza. While he was heroic, he was also a bit shy.
Maritza could have been a spoiled rich girl, but she wasn’t. She was passionate about the plight of her people and had been doing what she could to shut down the illegal gold mines that used child slave labor. When she arrived in America to witness her father and her bodyguard being assassinated, she did what any intelligent woman would do. She ran.
The Peruvian beauty had seen so much loss that it caused her to question God. If there is a good God then why do bad things happen? Why didn’t he protect her mother? Her father? Why was she now all alone and running for her life? Author Angela Ruth Strong through her characters addressed these difficult questions and helped Maritza to see God’s hand in her life without being preachy.
There were secondary characters who were developed so well that I enjoyed them as well. Jojo, one of the kids in the youth group was probably my favorite of them. He was a bit crazy, full of enthusiasm and youthful energy. Despite his silliness, he still was compassionate towards the homeless. Aww!
It was also really fun to see the homeless and the youth group interact. The homeless they had served all felt like they needed to give the kids good advice. So cute! Then the kids realized who Martiza was and showered her with kindness as they attempted to help her disguise herself from the killers. As they gave her some of their favorite things, I was so proud of them!
The story was pretty much non-stop action. Almost nothing was what it appeared to be. There were numerous plot twists and surprises all over the place. I appreciated being introduced to things in Washington D.C. that I never knew existed, such as the mansion Maritza was supposed to stay at with her father that has all kinds of secret passages. How cool is that!
I recommend this for readers who enjoy lighthearted Christian romantic suspense with tongue-in-cheek humor.
I’ve only read Mary Alford’s installment of Exposed so my review is for Hallowed Ground:
A great Christian romantic suspense to keep you turning the pages! Jax and Erin suffer the loss of fellow CIA agent Blake only to find out it was a set-up that has them running for their lives. Not knowing who is friend or foe has them turned around and unable to trust even the closest team member. Will they escape from Afghanistan alive and bring justice to light?
Definitely had me on the edge of my seat holding on for dear life! Things escalate fast and there’s no time to take a breath. I didn’t know how Jax & Erin would out-run and out-maneuver the killers who are thought to be one of their own. They were always a step ahead which made the tension razor edged! This is the kind of suspense and action that keeps me coming back for more. The faith element is a natural part and the romance perfectly balanced without being overbearing. I can see this being ripped from the pages of today’s newspaper, that’s how real it was in my mind! If you’re a fan of thrilling suspense and action-packed stories, you’ll no doubt want to buy the collection for yourself! With so many great authors, how could you go wrong?
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and was under no obligation to leave a favorable review*
Set against the backdrop of the Israelites getting ready to enter the Promised Land, this tale is called biblical fiction, but so much of the story comes from the author’s imagination. I should have known by the title and the Bible teaching about Balaam that this book would deal with more sensual material than I care to read. I found the pagans’ seduction of Israel disgusting, but that’s what sin is. God hates it. However, I wish so much wasn’t described in the story, even though it doesn’t go into detail. The characters do seem realistic—too much so in some cases. I thought Balaam knew the true God but was led astray by greed. This portrays him as a worshipper of many gods who learns Yahweh is more powerful. The first 60 percent of this long novel deals with the plot to entice Israel into idol worship so the nation could be conquered. Thankfully, once sin is punished, the story takes a redemptive turn. I like this quote: “We dare not cling to any form of evil because he (God) will eventually shatter every perverted, hurtful thing. But his love for us is as fierce as his wrath.” I appreciate the character list, which I found in the back—it should have been in the front so readers know it’s there. Also, it helps orient the reader to which point of view with the character’s name given at the start of every scene. All opinions are my own.
I have only read Hallowed Ground By Mary Alford so this is the review for that book will update as I read the rest.
If you have never read anything by this author start here. I could not put this book down from beginning to the end. I loved the main characters Erin and Jax, both were complete fighters and would not stop at anything to bring justice to for their friends. I really also enjoyed how the author literally keeps you guessing till the end, trust me you will think you have it all figured out and then the author those in a twist. Before I realized this book was part of a series there is a character I wished the author would have followed up with but now I know its a series I can't wait to read more about these characters and what's going to happen next. This book is a clean read so suitable for all. Seriously grab this book you won't regret it.
I was given the opportunity to read Angela Ruth Strong's Dead on Arrival. I can honestly say that I could not put this book down. There were many twists and turns which kept me turning the pages. From the moment Maritza finds herself alone on the U.S. ground to the end twist, you will not want to stop. Levi Parker is the type of hero that we root for. He is not afraid to do what needs to be done. His faith keeps him going. The characters are well developed and the story line is well rounded. It contains the type of cloak and dagger that one would find in a longer story but novella form. Angela Ruth Strong does a wonderful job combining intrigue with love and faith. I look forward to reading more from this set.
Hallowed Ground By Mary Alford Hallowed Ground by Mary Alford is the only book that I have read in this Christian Romantic Suspense box collection of several authors. I really enjoyed Hallowed Ground and I was grabbed at the start and did not want to put it down. If you love the edge of your seat stories then you will love Hallowed Ground. This is a fast paced, action filled, and full of suspense and danger everywhere you turn. CIA agents not knowing who they can trust, not even their own. I was given a copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
An Exciting Collection of Christian Romantic Suspense
This was a nice collection of Christian Romantic Suspense by some very good authors. Alana Terry gave us a book filled with suspense twists and turns. I loved the well crafted storyline filled with God's love and protection . Dead on Arrival by Angela Ruth Strong is an exciting Romantic Suspense featuring God's love and protection. I loved this book and it kept my eyes glued to the page. I recommend this entire collection to those who love Christian romantic suspense.
After downloading this book, I hesitated to read it because so often romance anthologies are a collection of stories nobody wanted to read in the first place. That is definitely not the case with this one. I loved everything in it. As a writing teacher, a much published writer, and an avid reader, I can safely say that these novellas meet every standard I could have set.
The last book in this set was not good. It could be salvageable with a major rewrite, not to mention spell and grammar checks. The rest of the books were good, but still had quite a few typos. I don't understand why the publisher can't take more time to edit properly.
This group went i into serious matters in life more than all the Christian series. I have read in the last few years. Issues of abandonment, abuse and , grief, and hopelessness make the reader examine what they really believe and gives hope that God will use people to bring deliverance to any situation. .
Love to read books without all the perversion and profanity that authors these days seem to think everyone wants to read. Or that they need em in there to make the story good. You don't these books kept me coming back to finish them quickly.
I really enjoyed this anthology with its variety of scenes, plots and characters. The romances are clean and romantic suspense is rapidly becoming a favorite category to read.
I absolutely enjoyed every single one of these books! It was the best Roundup of suspense mystery romance and one book that I have found yet! Absolutely loved it and hope they do it again!
I really enjoyed this book and have found some new authors to read more of. The only thing that bothered me about the book was the amount of grammatical errors :(.
I enjoyed each of these stories and look forward to reading more from each author. The only disagreeable parts were an occasional typo or perhaps it was auto correct raising its irritating head. Lol.
Most of the stories were very well written and thought out. And I will be searching out more of those authors books. But a couple were more drawn out and held less of an appeal for me. Overall I really enjoyed this group of stories.
Every books was exciting. It made for excellent reading and entertainment. Highly recommend!! Interesting fiction and different storylines, but each one entertaining.
What I love best about collections is being introduced to new authors. I am now a fan of Alford, Bonner, Phillips and Strong. I based my review rating on their intriguing novels. I'll read more of theirs and they intrigued me and were strong.
Most of the authors in this set were new to me. Not any more. Each story was exciting and kept you on your toes. I will be reading more of their books. Thank you.
Action packed, full of mystery and excitement. These stories will keep you on the edge of your seat. I received a copy of this set and this is my personal honest opinion. No review was required.
