Rate this book
Foreword by Woodstock co-founder, Michael Lang.

3 days. 33 concerts. 2 deaths. 2 births. 500,000 people. And another 250,000 stuck in traffic trying to get in. Woodstock was a festival like no other. Now, on its 50th anniversary, relive every moment.

Detailed text and evocative photographs tell the full story of every single act that performed - when they took to the stage, what songs they played, who was there, what they were like. From The Who to Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane to Creedence Clearwater Revival, every single second is an experience to enjoy over and over again.

Also includes fascinating features on the stories around Woodstock, from the unique social and political context to the drugs, the free love, the film, the albums and the legacy.

50 Years: The Story of Woodstock Live – Relive the Magic Artist by Artist by Julien Bitoun (Cassell Illustrated 2019) (781.660787) (3425). Who are Bert Sommer, Tim Hardin, Quill, The Keef Hartley Band, Sweetwater, Sha-Na-Na, and the Incredible String Band? They are seven of the thirty-three artists who performed at Woodstock.

There are several pages devoted to each act as they appeared chronologically. This approach allowed me to better imagine the “real time” spectacle.

It was the party of a lifetime.

But I missed it because I was in Tennessee – and ten years old at the time!

My rating: 7.5/10, finished 2/26/20 (3425).

While a bit opinionated about the music and artists, this book is great in that it gives a brief, concise rundown of the Woodstock lineup. It includes set lists, band member lists, and details about the performances. Easy to read, and enjoyable.

Of the many documents on Woodstock, this one is a great and, for a change, seemingly accurate group by group account of the festival as it unfolded. The epilogue has some interesting related material, and the photos are great.
