Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
A stunning collection of 25 adventure stories from Enid Blyton which includes beautiful illustrations for the start of each story in the style of Quentin Blake. Would ideally be suited for 8 year olds and upwards. Each story is several pages long so could also be ideal for bedtime stories.
This book is a collection of wondrous tales for children. It is filled with magic, gnomes, pixies, fairies, and all kinds of magical creatures you can imagine only in your dreams or those that you have read about only in fairy tales. This an excellent book for all children. This book is the embodiment of your imaginations, as it is full of wonderful lands, a cycle that rides itself and also all other stories ; each with their on morals...
This delightful collection of short adventure stories is the perfect book to read to young children in summer, and especially good for sparking their imaginations before bed!
There are a great range of stories that will interest both boys and girls. Only one needed to be split across multiple sittings (and only because bedtime was fast approaching and it was longer than the other stories so I hadn’t budgeted enough time). The content is engaging and funny at times for pre-school / junior primary aged children and there are some good lessons in some of them about things like courage, resilience and perseverance.
I love that with Enid Blyton, I don’t need to worry about unsavoury content, I can just enjoy reading to my boys and seeing them enjoy the stories for themselves.
This a collection of 25 short stories of about 10-15 pages each. The stories are easy read and you will enjoy going through them. This is my second short stories collection from Enid Blyton (the first being Summar Hoilday Stories) and I liked both of them.
Look forward to reading other short stories collections by the author like Stories of Magic and Mischief.
Brilliant! Bought this to read to my kids before bed. My daughter is 5 and son is 8. They absolutely loved these stories! Couldn’t wait for their story each night. Im still amazed at Enids incredible imagination.
Even though most of the stories in this book were written in the 30s-50s my daughter absolutely loved them all. Perfect bedtime reading for a 7 year old!
