Do you believe in ghosts? Perhaps not yet, but author Marjorie LaNelle will most certainly make a believer out of you! Now, after the success of her first published book, Ghost Stories of Uptown Greenwood, LaNelle brings readers a second installment of purportedly true spooky tales in The Apparitions of The History & Mystery of the South Carolina Lakelands.
Among the various places throughout America where spirits are said to roam, there is Abbeville, South Carolina, believed by many to be one of the most haunted towns in the southeastern United States. The ghostly accounts within these pages range from local folklore to hauntingly eerie stories passed down from generation to generation; and personal experiences of Abbeville residents and the author herself. These encounters stand as proof that oftentimes there’s more to what we see than meets the eye.
You will soon understand why people have come to believe that Abbeville is so spiritually active. Once you’ve learned some of the very interesting and hard-to-ignore facts about this seemingly quiet little southern town, you just may start sleeping with the lights on.
As someone who just moved to Abbeville and loves all things haunted and historical, this was such a fun read! 👻🖤 I loved getting a glimpse into the town's spooky legends and rich history. My only complaint is that I wanted more—I wish each story had been explored in greater detail because they were so fascinating. If you're curious about local folklore and ghost stories, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a read!
If you're wanting an in depth novel on hauntings, this is not the book for you. If you want a quick, light overview on a few haunted locations in Abbeville, this is your book. I would have liked more research on a few of the historical parts, but that wasn't the focus of the book, so I can't fault the author for not going more in depth.
