Wow! I was impressed by the professional quality of this book: from the way it was designed and written to its relevance in helping readers to handle their grief. Audrey Stringer knows her audience and as the person behind A String of Hope Inc., a grief counselling practice in Sarnia-Lambton, she draws from her training and personal experience to present stories, journal entries, side-bars, tips, strategies and resource material in an accessible manner. I even loved the size of the book as it could easily fit in a purse or a jacket pocket for quick reference.

I look forward to reading her three other inspirational books published by her company but not yet listed on Goodreads: Scaling the Mountain of Grief: Creating a New Normal Through Loss and Healing (2011), Buddy's Life Lessons: My paw print on grief and loss (2015) and her most recent book 111 Butterfly Moments: Tips to Embrace and Live Life with Joy (2019).

Audrey Stringer’s book “Get Over It” is an easily accessible guide to dealing with grief and bereavement, and working towards a full and fulfilling life once again. Audrey has written the book both from her professional experience as a bereavement counsellor and palliative care worker, and as a person who has experienced first hand the multiple losses of close family members over a short time period. The book gives invaluable advice on coping with the pain of bereavement and grief, and is full of useful tips in convenient sidebars which address many areas of concern (dealing with guilt, developing a new “normal”, etc.) The format makes the book easy to read, either in small easily-digested doses, or all at once, depending on how much the reader can cope with at the time. Personally, I have also found “Get Over It” to be helpful as I try to cope with many deaths in my own family and circle of friends over the past years. As a librarian, I have access to hundreds of books on death, grief and bereavement, but I was finding most of them were too clinical and they were unreadable for me in my state of grief. I found that the mix of the personal and professional in “Get Over It” was much more user-friendly, and because I could read sections as I was ready for them I was able to read and assimilate the information. There has been a good demand for this book in our library system. I purchased multiple copies, and it is circulating well. I would recommend it as an excellent acquisition for any library or personal collection!
