While her warrior sire Cutter battles in a distant land, Ember leads her splinter tribe of Wolfriders - the Howling Rock pack - deeper into unknown territory. Each day brings new challenges to her skills, as a fighter, as a planner, and as the leader she knows she must be - for she has her father's legend to live up to.
How then to deal with the mysterious elfin stranger who can make himself invisible to even the keen senses of the Wolfriders. Can he aid Ember in her struggle against the evil of Winnowill? Or will he lead doom right into the elves' midst?
Read on ElfQuest.com for the Great ElfQuest Read of 2025. I may have some of these individual issues but I think I am missing some... and I don't think I ever read this entire storyline.
This half of Ember's story started stronger than the first half, but by the end it got kinda confusing for me. I am glad I read Shards first so I knew what these characters were reacting to. If I hadn't it would have been even MORE confusing.
Once again, the issue switch to black and white partway through and I did miss the color. I'm glad they continued this plot line once the change to the monthly anthology happened, because this ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger.
The Wolfrider Tribe split, Ember leads her small band in search of a new holt in stories that parallel the events of Shards. She wears her chief's lock, but still struggles to earn it.
Part of my great ElfQuest reread. So far I think this is the weakest of the bunch, you could really see the growing pains with new artists and authors struggling to find their footing.
