Difficult Read
I could only give this book a 2 star rating because of the difficulty in reading it! I am an intelligent person and read often. I have read books that are more difficult in terms of vocabulary, plot etc., so THAT is not exactly what I mean by difficult. Rather, I am referring to what appears to be an utter lack of consideration of: editing, story flow, grammar, sentence structure, spelling etc. I would suggest to the author that in any future editions he should consider hiring or finding a skilled person willing to proof read and edit his work because the story deserves to be told but to do it in such a lackadaisical way does NOT do it justice!
As I read, I noted several areas where further explanation would have enhanced the story and was definitely needed from my perspective. For instance, why weren't your parents more supportive? What was your childhood like? Did you have any psychiatric symptoms as a child? Were you brought to see a therapist? During the writing of this book, were you ever given an official diagnosis by someone licensed/qualified to diagnose? Who is Wendy? And Jill? What right did Jill have to give away YOUR dog to the pound and how does she figure she had the right to tell the shelter who Arrow could be given to? How did Father John manage to decide he was your payee? Did you/he not know that a person CAN'T legally appoint themselves as a payee because this must be done through the court system by approval of a judge? Did you not know that ANYONE in a mental health hospital has the absolute right to speak to a disability rights advocate and the number to reach the organization MUST be clearly posted on the unit as well as in the new patient paperwork signed during intake?
I am sorry you went through all of that and I would definitely continue to pursue legal action! They have no right to deny you food, hydration, medical care, outside contact, access to a lawyer or disability rights advocate, and hygiene. They can't ban mail but CAN inspect it for drugs or other contraband, they can only inject you if you are a danger to self or others (psychiatric emergency must be declared and at least one physician must sign off on the orders before injection is given. Also, if you agree to take the medication in pill form, they can't hold you down and inject you forcibly. At least, not in my state! Each person would do well to research the laws in their state for accurate and updated information.
