Boring 50s besteller of a young lady who survives the Dresden firebombing, the Russian capture of Berlin, and ratfink men to marry a rich US industrialist and find love in the arms of a US gazillionaire. This may be the most passive heroine to grace the popular gal who rises from rags to riches genre. The rich material of postwar Germany is utterly wasted.

Poor writing; author is not good at fiction and tends to narrate events rather than create meaningful drama. But it does convey a realistic sense of civilian life in Germany as it was conquered and in the aftermath. The characters exist as basically an excuse to give these impressions, and this does make it a tad more interesting than dry history.

Li-o em português. A história é romântica, e nem é a "xícara de chá". Ainda assim, gostei bastante da leitura.
