Surrendering the Dark

Rate this book

For someone with a soul as dark as mine, there’s only one person who can bring light back into my world…

Lucifer

When Amalie walked into my life, I thought for sure my Father was trying to trick me yet again. Wasn’t it enough that He cast me out of Heaven and forced me to live among the humans? Now, He’s dangling the promise of a soulmate in front of my face hoping for… what? That I’ll give up my quest to destroy humanity once and for all? That I’ll miraculously find my true self again? He only has Himself to blame for the monster I’ve become and the destruction I’ve caused. If He thinks bringing this girl into my life will halt everything I’ve worked so hard to achieve, it just proves He doesn’t know me at all.

Yet, I can’t ignore the undeniable attraction I feel for the latest of Lilly’s descendants. Of course she’s beautiful. That’s a given. But there’s something in her eyes, an innocence and strength, that draws me to her, wanting to discover more about her, causing me to desire to make her mine.

Amalie

I never thought wishes could come true, but the moment I saw Lucifer I knew mine had finally been granted. I come from a long line of strong women who have dedicated their lives to a singular purpose: defeating the forces of evil in order to protect the universe from their influence. Having my soul paired with Lucifer’s seems like a cosmic calamity, but there’s something in his eyes when he looks at me. I can see his desire to be accepted for who he is by someone who won’t judge him for his past deeds. Am I the one meant to lead his life down a different path? Can my love help Lucifer remember the angel he once was before his fall from Grace? I don’t have the answers to those questions, but my heart tells me our love will be everlasting and strong enough to change a soul ravaged by hatred and loneliness for far too long.

This is a part of my Watcher series of books. Minimum reading for this story is The Redemption Series (Malcolm, Anna, Lucifer, and Redemption).

Once upon a time, a little girl was born on a cold winter morning in the heart of Seoul, Korea. She was brought to America by her parents and raised in the Deep South where the words ma'am and y'all became an integrated part of her lexicon. She wrote her first novel at the age of eight and continued writing on and off during her teenage years. In college she studied biology and chemistry and finally combined the two by earning a master's degree in biochemistry. After that she moved to Yankee land where she lived for four years working in a laboratory at Cornell University. Homesickness and snow aversion forced her back South where she lives in the land which spawned Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham and B.B. King. After finding her Prince Charming, she gave birth to a wondrous gift named Caylin and they all lived happily ever after.

The second book to the Harvester of Light trilogy will be available for purchase no later than December 2012.

Everything and more!

We’ve all been waiting for it...

Surrendering the Dark is book one of Amalie and Lucifer’s story. If you haven’t read her Watcher series, to avoid confusion, I would recommend reading those first before diving into this one. Also, things mentioned in this book could be potential spoilers for you. Just wanted to throw that out there.

I have to start by saying only SJ West could have me rooting for Lucifer. Lol
This book though... it was so freakin good and definitely worth the wait. It was everything I expected it would be and more.

Amalie being one of Lilly’s descendants knows all too well the pain Lucifer has brought not only to humanity, but to her family as well. After a quick encounter, she quickly learns Lucifer is her soulmate. With the strong connection of their soulmate bond and aside what she has heard about Lucifer, she wants to pursue this relationship. Lucifer also feels the strong bond but unfortunately for Amalie, he wants nothing to do with it. Or so he thinks.

I loved it! Their chemistry was undeniable. It was funny, emotional, witty, and more importantly it was unique. I can’t wait for book 2

If you are a fan of S J West, you know all about her Watcher Trilogy and Watcher Chronicles series. If you have never read any of her books - you are doing yourself a complete disservice if you do not read this magnificent story.
In my opinion, the story of Lucifer and Amalie is the beginning of the end to this storyline – only to begin again (yes, you just must read them to understand). I have enjoyed all her books and will continue to do so – time and time again – as I reread them. This storyline begins with Lilly, Brand and Malcolm. Along the way we meet Jess and Mason. Surrendering to The Darkness tells the story of what I consider to be the third of four ‘super-couples’ in this storyline. Yes, there are several more as you go – but if not for Lilly and Brand, Jess and Mason, Lucifer and Amalie, Malcolm and Anna – there is no story.

This book is a story of faith, love, family, forgiveness, hope. I’m so happy that Ms. West is giving her readers a complete, two-part story of Lucifer and Amalie.

This is the first book in Lucifer and Amelie’s story and I loved it! It’s a fast paced easy read that hooked me from the beginning. You are able to get a sense for the character personalities and are drawn immediately into the action of the story. Loved the intense chemistry between the main characters and the buildup of their relationship. I can’t wait to read the next book. It is a fantastic paranormal read.

Wow, I must of missed a few books but since I'm familiar with the characters, I was able to catch on pretty quick. I've always been intrigued with Lucifer & how he could create a villain to hero type story. I love the humor & suspense with previous characters we all loved & missed!

Unique approach on The Prince of Darkness 3.5 stars

I felt like I was missing pieces of Amelie’s story. Maybe there was another book that I have to read to piece together and weave the story of Amelie & Lucifer’s connection. The many characters seems a bit confusing , though I recognize some of the characters especially Malcolm, the pompous vampire in Brand and Lilly’s series. I adore Malcolm in that series and love his demeanor after all. I am just puzzled about Amelie’s instantaneous attraction to Lucifer. I felt like it was so immediate and quick. She is so enamored and bewitched by the charms of the Prince of Darkness. While on the other hand, Lucifer seems so uptight and indignant with her. She was pushy and bold not the character I imagine a half angel would be. She throws herself at Lucifer and most of the time initiates the moves. I felt in this scenario she is the more aggressive one as oppose to Lucifer’s dark character. Although I like the premise of the story, redeeming once self and turning to the light, the story does not have the grip factor and I can’t seem to conjure the characters to my imagination, it just fell flat on me. But surely a different side of Lucifer was portrayed in this story being the villain as well as the hero which makes it interesting.

*I have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really loved reading Lucifer's and Amalie's story. They are such a great couple. The best part of this book is that we got to see more of Lucifer and what truly goes inside his mind.

Lucifer is really the perfect book boyfriend and best anti-hero. The author has made him such a complex character. I love how he can hate as deeply as he can love. And, despite pushing Amalie multiple times away, you can see that he really loves her. His selflessness towards the end of the book is truly amazing.

Amalie is a really good character. I loved how she unconditionally loved Lucifer. She always stood up for him even when her friend really doubted her decisions. She always knew what she wanted. And that was Lucifer.

The romance between Lucifer and Amalie was amazing. I loved how they are so perfect for each other. They loved each other and was always there for each other. I also liked how in this book it was so much focused on them together as a couple rather than the chemistry. Both characters are truly suited for each other.

The world building is really good. I loved seeing new dimensions to the Watcher world. I liked seeing how the Fallen angels really turned out and how they have changed. Plus the whole alternate earth is really cool. There was an awesome touch of science fiction.

All in all, this is really awesome novel and completely worth the wait. Go one-click this book for your awesome dose of Lucifer and Amalie.

Wow! I love how the author brings us back into a virtual world they have created. Familiar characters and inside jokes remind you of other books that you've read. Continueing to build on this world and bringing us Amalie, one of the descendents along with Malcolm and the watchers is a joy by itself. Bringing us Amalie and Lucifer is just unbelievable. The author weaves the post books into Amalie's life so smoothly, you feel like you already know her. Weaving the story with Lucifer and an undeniable love is just page-turning perfection! Who knew I would be on Lucifer's side!!!! Amalie brings out the good in Lucifer and reminds him what it feels like to be accepted and loved. I'm already looking for the follow-up book in this series.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AUTHOR

This is Lucifer and Amalie's story and let me tell you this is one heck of a story! I cried I laughed you truly we'll see a side of Lucifer you never really seen before Amalie brings it all out of him 😊.
Amalie is very headstrong and no matter what Lucifer has done in the past she is willing to look the other way as long as Lucifer is willing to change his ways from here on out! This book was truly amazing a page-turner I was so into it when I got to the end I was like what 😂 didn't even realize it S.J. West did such a fantastic job like always I cannot wait for the Nextbook

Lucifer's been one of my favourites throughout all the series. So complicated, tormented and filled with anger & love buried so deep, he himself was not able to find it.

And here comes Amalie - a headstrong, opinionated woman that's the Devil's perfect match in every sense. The one who unravels him and makes him feel... everything. A match made in Havenly Hell. :)

I loved their story and I can't wait to read the next book. S.J. West has done, once again, a spectacular job. I highly recommend you catch up on the full storyline before picking up this book. It's worth it.

Romance at its best! It’s just wow! I was left speechless by the love and romance in this book.

Amalie and Lucifer are soulmates. The war has placed them on opposing sides and still continues. But can it work? WILL it work? Are they really meant to be together because Lucifer is,..... well Lucifer. Oh my, I REALLY hope it does work out. So now I wait for book 2 to find out if it can......or will.

I have been looking forward to this story for a long time. The beginning of the epic love story between Lucifer and Amalie. Since we first learned about their love in the Redemption series, I have wanted to know more. SJ West again brought me into the world of the Watchers and it kept me on the edge of my seat. It was well written and I loved reading another story with Millie and of course Malcolm. I can't wait for book 2!

Yes!!

I’ve been waiting so long for S.J. to write this story, and although it’s only half of the story, it’s been worth the wait!

Amalie is a headstrong young woman who doesn’t put up with Lucifers crap - the ideal woman for the devil himself. A match made in heaven, if you will.
The story flows nicely and is an easy read. It’ll make you smile, laugh and at the end, maybe a few sad, then happy tears could flow.

Lucifer has been my favourite of mine for a long time. It made my heart happy that he’s finally found true love, even though I know what’s coming...

Long Awaited Book

Waiting for this book to be written was definitely worth the wait. Although the story is only partially told, it gives great insight to how and why Amelia and Lucifer were meant to be. Love, Love, Love all of S. J. West's books, although it is not my favorite. It is a story that completes so much. Can't wait for part two. Love the way Lucifer blows of steam, his hobbies, and how he freely shares himself with Amalie. Definitely worth reading. Five stars and two thumbs up! This story needs Jonathan one book to be told.

I've been waiting for this story for a while. I'm so glad SJ West decided to tell this story. We get a good look into Lucifer's mind and how he reacts to and feels about Amalie. I love how strong willed Amalie is, but I guess you'd have to be to date the devil lol. Their story is coming together very well. I'm ready (but also not ready) for the second half of this story. I can't wait to see how the rest of watcher group decides to handle this relationship and how Lucifer and Amalie's relationship will grow in the next book.

We’ve all heard all those old relationship sayings...Love isn’t always perfect. You can’t always help who you fall in love with. Love someone for who they are, not who’ve they were or who you want them to be. S.J. West nails all of them in this book. Amalie is one of the strongest female leads I’ve ever read. Guess she would have to be to be the soul mate for Lucifer. Even though I know how this love story ends, I cannot wait for book 2

Let me just start by saying if you haven’t read any of the other watchers books you will definitely want to do that before starting this books. You will know so much more about what’s going on. Now, I am so so so very happy to have finally been given Lucifer and Amalie’s story. I won’t give anything away but to see Lucifer find and accept love was so amazing for me. I can’t thank S.J enough for giving us this book.

So yes I devoured this book in one setting! I was a little skeptical about this one because I felt other books already gave enough detail about them. I should of known better! S.J. West did an amazing job on this story and the detailed information. This is duel point of view and loved getting to read Lucifer’s side of things. Definitely don’t want to miss this one!

Beautifully Heart melting

That last chapter, oh my goodness! We've seen how deeply Lucifer can hate and hurt and lash out but now SJ has shown us how deeply he can love and care and comfort. If this is the beginning of Amalie and Lucifer's story, I cannot wait to see how it evolves. Perfect, absolutely perfect!

Too good

She had done it again. I like this story a-lot. It gives a lot of insight into Lucifer. The heart wants what the heart wants. Amalie and all the dependents are really strong willed. I like that Amalie is not afraid to stand up to Malcolm and her dad. She will fight for love at all costs. We get to see a softer more sensitive side of Lucifer which is nice.

Beautiful story!

I really enjoyed reading Lucifer and Amalie's story and meeting Anna's mom and seeing a complete different side of Lucifer since the times he was with Jess. Excited to see how their story continues..will the next book intermix with the Anna book? Very curious if we see Lucifer join Amalie in Heaven..

So Good!

It was so great to read Lucifer and Amalie’s story. Well the start of it anyway. Although those of us who have read the Redemption Series know what happens, it was nice to get more in depth with their relationship. I can’t wait to read the second book.

I love the way Amalie and Lucifer falls in love. It was great that she stood up for her right to love her soulmate, especially against Malcolm and her father. Was a surprise by who was willing to stand by her. Great love story.

Fantastic!!

I found this story to be fantastic, intriguing, and we'll worth the read. How can you fight against something so long only to find your soul mate on the other side. Is love worth fighting for or against. Pick up this book to find out.
