John 5:19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
Recently bereaved detective Nadine Meyers is assigned to investigate a brutal massacre, with eight-year-old Mary the sole survivor.
Nadine suspects the parents were responsible for murdering all six of their adopted children in a single horrendous act. As she befriends Mary, she discovers a secret that takes the case in a whole new direction, one she could never have imagined.
The opening chapter was great. It had a malevolent feel. The chapters that followed added suspense. Unfortunately, the remainder left little explanation. How? Why? I have an excellent imagination but I still needed to know a fraction more. The beginning gets 👍👍 up. Then it turns into another blood fest. The conclusion? Nothing frightening. Disturbing, yes. Fear factor...not so much.
This was a pretty fun, very quick little read! It's definitely predictable and rushed, given the incredibly short page count, but I love a good story about a kid who's just not quite right and Mary delivered.
Short but scary! Tremendously scary because the horror is implacable, and because of the gore and violence it wreaks. Just remember: all that glitters is not gold
A quick and enjoyable read, a novelette with a good pacing and no filler chapters. Yes, I just said no filler chapters 🙏 so let me express my heartfelt thanks to Charlie Dalton.
Warning : the book cover is not relevant 🤔 as this is not a story about zombies!
A nosy neighbour gets more than she bargained for when she goes to investigate a child screaming at the farm next door. There has been a massacre of six children and two adults, with the only survivor being an eight year old girl. She is taken to the police station where police and social workers wait to hear what happened. One of the people there is Nadine, who recently lost her own child to cancer, and she feels sympathy for the girl. But the more that the authorities talk to Mary, the stranger the case becomes and the more upset Mary gets.
I admit that while it was a decent enough short story, it was the same as quite a few I'd read before and the ending was very predictable and not personally satisfying to me. A second massacre was what readers were expecting at the end so I'd have liked to have seen something different. I'd have liked to see someone putting a stop to it, finding out what happened to the neighbour, someone realising what Mary is doing...I don't know, just something different. Instead it went exactly the way I expected and was perhaps a bit of an anti-climax.
They are called to a home where the family is all dead but Mary. How? Mary is taken to the police station. She and the lady 🚺 police officer become friendly. The social services workers so up and everyone goes crazy with killing. Mary is on her way to the hospital with another police officer. I would recommend this free novella and author to 👍 readers of horror novels 👍🔰. 2023 👒😉😀😡
First time reading something from this author. Althought it has similarities to previous storeis I've seen/read, you don't get bored at all, the characters are well connected to each others and the gore is really good. Let's just say that
For a short story this book was good. We are introduced to Mary who is a young child that has possibly seen her family murdered. Yet, when it is all said and done did she see it or do it? Who knows, it seems that Mary is something very special and evil. Not all will be like it seems when Mary is around. If you are just looking for a book to read to pass the time this is a good short maybe 30 minutes of read time.
"A dozen mutilated bodies. A flood of blood. And that’s only the beginning. Police are called to a devastating scene. An entire family goes crazy and hacks each other to death. Only one of the children has survived. Poor little Mary. As the police question her about what happened to her family, it slowly becomes clear that Mary might know more then she is letting on. This isn’t the first time that Mary has had a problem with those around her dying. "
Wow! This was a very fun, very quick, very bloody novella. Sci-fi horror that I just couldn’t get enough of. It reminded me of a bloody version of the classic Twilight Zone.
Didn’t take long at all to read Typhoid Mary. You can finish it off in one sitting. I wish it had been a bit longer. The story was so much fun, I hated to see it end. Although, I will admit the ending was pretty epic! If this story is the kind of work we can expect from Charlie Dalton, I’m all on board!
For being such a short book, I was really impressed with the amount of depth the main characters had. Normally in a novella, you don’t always get to see any inner conflicts or personality from the characters…. there just isn’t any time. Somehow the author managed to squeeze depth in to Typhoid Mary while at the same time delivering a solid story.
Loved the concept. Such an evil little brat at the center of the story. I really got a kick out of watching all the carnage take place. Massive amounts of crazy WTFs going on. Awesome!
I was very pleased with the novella Typhoid Mary. A lot of blood and carnage with a pleasing concept and characters with depth. Had a perfect ending. There really was no down side. 😮
I am blown away by this story, I had a small inkling of what was happening but that didn't stop me from loving it!
The first chapter grabbed my interest straight away, I loved Marge because she seemed like a proper nosey neighbour (we all have them) and it made it feel that little bit more realistic.
One of my favourite aspects of this story was Mary herself, she had this balance of adorable young child and creepy as heck kid, Charlie Dalton balanced the two perfectly and Mary got right under my skin...
Nadine and Mary's relationship was a highlight of this book for me as it really brought a human feel to the story and made the reader feel quite sorry for both of them.
The ending, well the last chapter or so was brilliantly done and even though I had an inkling of what was about to happen I couldn't have predicted it at all!
I thought this book was excellently written, it had the perfect balance of emotions throughout, the writing was good, the chapter length was perfect and the whole thing just really packed a punch for me.
Neighbor at a adjacent farm hears a woman screaming. She calmly makes her way to her neighbors house to see what is going on. She encounters a horrible nightmarish scene. Blood everywhere and bodies are laying dead on the ground. The only survivor, little Mary, who is sitting catatonic and scared. Police arrive. They question the neighbor who has now gone mental because of what she has seen. The police interrogate little Mary to find out what actually occurred in this house. It looks like the family all attacked and killed one another.
Nadine, a police detective who is suffering from her own loss, connects with little Mary. But what really caused this family to kill one another and Mary be the only survivor.
As I was reading this book, I was thinking how similar it seemed to multiple horror movie scenarios already been done. I was not surprised unfortunately to discover what really happened to the family. As a horror fan, I believed it was going in that direction. Overall, the story did keep me engaged and was very well written.
This beautifully-written short story follows the history of Mary, an eight-year-old girl whose adopted family is hacked to death, seemingly in front of her, on the farm where she lives.
When Nadine, a police officer suffering her own heartbreaking loss, is assigned to the case, she can’t help but feel drawn to Mary. The fact of Mary's foster parents killing all the other six children and each other in front of the child seems to compound Nadine’s feeling for the child. But is there more to this story than meets the eye? And how exactly did Mary survive?
Dark and compelling, stories with frightening children as the protagonists have a way of stealing our sleep, and this was no exception. Carefully constructed, I was sorry to finish it so quickly, but will look for more from this author in future.

This read was quick and well written but it offers little explanation as to what is going on, especially with Mary. I also found it a bit predictable. This definitely wasn't a favorite of mine but the story did give off some majorly creepy vibes, so I give it a 3.5 🌟
Stories about children that are sweet on the surface, but total demons on the inside makes me lose faith in humanity (that small portion that I still hold on to).
This is another great book by Charlie Dalton, it keeps you "on the hook" till the end (although, once you acknowledge the little girl's power you kinda start imagined the end of this story...).
Just like the previous book of this author that I read, "Typhoid Mary" reminded me about a movie that I really like, and watch every time is on tv - Orphan.
So, if you are looking for a small, that will creep the hell out of you - this is the one for you.
** I received an advance review copy of this book - This is my honest (and non paid) review of "Typhoid Mary" **
Evil can be anywhere, even the most innocent of places
Typhoid Mary, by Charlie Dalton, draws the reader into the story from the beginning pages and you won't be able to stop reading until the very page.
This is a short, but well written, spine-chilling story story filled with horror, blood and carnage thats hard to believe. Turn the lights up and get ready to be chilled to your bones.
Mary has such an innocent face and strangely beautiful eyes, but they hide a chilling past. Mary is the only survivor of the mass murder of her foster family and foster siblings and she saw it all.
It would like to have had more of a build up to the opening scene, but is still a gripping horror story.
I received this ARC from the author and am leaving an honest review.

WOW!! I loved this; it is short but I am hoping there is going to be more to follow. This was excellently written and love the whole plot. Love the characters and world creation and I really hope there is more to come after this one. I love this author and her writings. Recommend Reading.
I received an ARC from the talented author and this is my own honest voluntary review.
Was given this complimentary novella by the author in exchange for an honest review. Meet Mary the cute little 8 year old with different coloured eyes, a sweet smile, the uncanny ability to know things she shouldn’t, a wicked temper and a deadly scream! Throughly enjoyed it, the story was short and punchy and will leave you wanting more. A real fast paced page turner that when I’d finished I read again! Can’t wait for the next book.
What a thoroughly creepy story! I find that horror stories involving children are especially creepy and this one doesn't disappoint.
A quick read, but very well written. The author really draws the reader into the story from the very first page and you won't be able to stop reading until the very end.
If you are looking for a short read with plenty of horror, grab this one and get ready for a treat!
Well.....that was creepy as Hell!! In a brilliant way. I read it at night, dumb of me, and wow! Hard to read through your fingers covering your eyes. 😉 It is not a long read, but it packs a punch. I’ve found a new author who really can write. This makes 2 books of his so far. I highly recommend you grab this now. Night reading is waiting for you. Oh, use one hand to cover your eyes. You’re welcome.
The four stars are actually a bit unfair. I have read several of this author's works, also under another name, and I've come to expect excellence. This story is just a little too predictable. Still, Charlie Dalton never just delivers another typical genre example. He manages, in the space of a few pages, to make us comfortable, to make us think we are on familiar ground, only to turn that familiar ground upside down and inside out, so the impressions and the horror linger.
The beginning sets the mood for what's bound to happen and nothing good will come of it. And you get thrown right into a hell bent reality that doesn't promise to get better, but worse. The only thing is I wanted some more clarification on what really happened with her family. But the way it ends, I believe I got my answer and it's not pretty. Honestly, this deserves 3 1/2 stars. I did like the content and the suspense was intense throughout the entirety of the book.

I downloaded this as a free book on Kindle as the title and description caught my eye and I have to say it was a great read! It was dark and creepy and I loved the twists.
It was written really well and I am so glad that I found this book. The opening was brilliant and really draws you in to the book, you want to carry on reading to find out what happened.
I liked the ending too – it is 4 stars from me for this one – I thoroughly enjoyed it, a great short read!
Mary is the eight year old survivor of a massacre where two adults and six kids were brutally killed. Mary has heterochromia, like David Bowie, her eyes are different colors. A police officer warms to Mary and takes her for an ice cream.
She wasn't cheating with her diet if she was eating to get closer to a kid
This is a short story, which is a little predictable but with enough creepiness and gore to sate the appetite of the horror reader.
