Gave up at 50%. I’m adopted, so I thought it would be interesting, but everything about this book annoyed the hell out of me. I might have enjoyed it when I was 13, but the sappy dialogue, wild coincidences and totally unbelievable interactions were just too much. Updated: decided to scan through the rest, just to be fair in my rating. It actually got worse.
I really enjoyed this book, interesting story, great characters, every emotion under the sun. It was great, until the end, when I started feeling "oh, no....this is not a stand-alone series book". Too open ended, but overall, I would say it's a very good read. I just have a backlog of reading and I'm afraid by the time I get to #2 in the series, I won't remember book one...So, if you love a series and have time, grab this book. You'll love it.
I love the Hamilton series! It’s my all time favourite that i still re-read at least twice a year, the family dynamics present in this book with romance, humour, angst and undying love makes it a spectacular read! I will be following Kate Smith closely for any future releases!! 💕
Entertaining but I wonder how much better it might have been if I could relate to the characters. I'm tired of books with super-wealthy characters who can, in no way, be relatable to me. So, basically, a fairy tale.
This is not for me......I'd only managed 5% but it's written like it's a Young Adult fiction story. I even went back and checked on Amazon's cataloguing genre for it and nope, it's an adult novel !! It is written so it seems we know exactly how and why Savannah is behaving like some weird kid around the doctor she's just encountered and the speech in no way rings true at all. She's on some school trip when an accident occurs so that's how she meets him, then as she takes her leave of him, she asks, "Could I come back and ask you some questions ? You know, about being a doctor ?" Huh ??? WHY, would be the first thing I'd want to know !!! She's 14 and to my knowledge wasn't on any medical-related school jaunt ! He's a stranger and she's in a strange town. Then they meet for coffee and we're to believe she's suddenly encountered her biological father. I knew the synopsis details this BUT there's no lead-up, we learnt zip about either Aiden or Savannah before we were thrust into this scene !! I hate leaving one star reviews but it really needs to be rebadged. If I was around 13 I guess it would've been the perfect age-range. I hadn't seen any mistakes by the time I gave up on it, however, which is always something I'm happy about and merits a mention.
A sweet story that gave me whiplash with how quickly it jumped from one moment to the next. I enjoyed it a lot and it was easy to read, but it's probably the most romanticised tragedy I've read in a long time. A lot of the story was predictable, and whimsical - bordering on being unbelievable. Still, sometimes it's good to just read a "nice", entertaining story that for the most part works out well for everyone.
I did get frustrated towards the end, wondering how things were going to be truly wrapped up, then lo and behold, it turns out there's a book 2! I'm not sure how I didn't realise this is a series but I'll most likely read the next one (and others) as I'm a sucker for a book series.. I just hope that the second book doesn't jump about so rapidly!
This was a nice story about a guy who is found by a 15 year old daughter that he fathered and was given up for adoption, but the mother doesn’t want the girl to know who she is. The dad is a doctor who was 15 when his girlfriend got pregnant. Anyway….this book was over 700 pages telling a story that could have been told in 200 pages. I had all I could do to finish it. There was really nothing exciting about it with not much story to it.
This book surprised me in the beginning with the way it started. It developed into a great story which will sometimes surprise you. I liked this book but I am not sure I will continue the series.
It started terribly with entirely unbelievable scenarios and coincidences. Then it became dull, like zero plot dull. I continued reading hoping that something would happen and yet...nothing. I very rarely DNF a book, but I was close. To the point I actually regret spending time reading this.
You could shave about 200 pages off this book, and it only starts to get interesting at the very end. Theres more books in the series from different perspectives that seem interesting, but I don't want to go through the boredom again like I did for this book. Good storyline, but not great writing.
