Years ago, one of them swore off politics, the other swore off DC. Now, they’re both coming back.
Jake Wilkinson escaped the country for a chance to be someone other than the president’s son. He burned his bridges and broke his own heart, but he felt like he had no choice. It’s been eleven years, though, and he can’t say no to the Smithsonian job offer, so he comes back to DC to start a new life…
...only to stumble into the old one.
Troy Abbot once thought all his dreams had come true, but then the reality wore him down. He made peace with it, somehow, but when he hears Jake is back in town, everything changes.
Can they fix their old mistakes and start something new or should they just stay away from each other for good?

I know the author and read this pre-publication; my review is my own.
One of the more angsty and plotty installments in this series of fun, typically light-hearted m/m romance novels.
I had slightly mixed feelings about this volume, not because it's worse (on the contrary, I thought it tackled more issues and went more in-depth with the characters, giving us very believable and sympathetic heroes), but because I ended up siding with one side of the pairing in their eventual conflict instead of seeing both sides as valid (possibly because of my own personal baggage, of course). That said, Jake might have ended up being my second favourite MC in this series (after Adam from volume 2). I cheered for his growth and his happiness.
As the series winds down slowly, it was nice to check in with the old characters and to see overarching plotlines reach their conclusions, too.
I adore series about the white house, it takes me back to years of watching the West Wing, so this was a hit for me before I even read it. Megan Linden has created a series that's both entertaining and captivating, its romantic and downright sexy, with plenty angst to make it believable. Looking forward to the spin off,
