When retired Philadelphia detective turned private investigator Joselyn Rush is rear-ended, her knee-jerk response is anger, especially when the well-dressed woman driving tries to flee the scene. But as Jocelyn watches in disbelief, the woman jumps off the bridge, plunging to her death in the Schuylkill River one hundred fifty feet below.

Wracked with guilt, especially after learning the woman, Molly Porter, left behind a small child, Jocelyn wants answers. Why would a woman who seemingly had it all commit suicide because of a car accident?

But the more Jocelyn learns about Molly’s life and her past, the less perfect it seems. Because Molly Porter had secrets…secrets with dangerous consequences.

I've loved this series since Hold Still. This short story is a great addition and a great reminder of how much I love this author. She's so great at pulling me in emotionally and making me like her characters. Jocelyn is a single mother and a kickass detective who doesn’t take any crap and I love that about her. In this book, Jocelyn was true to character. From the very beginning, I was pulled into a web of mystery while Jocelyn looked for answers. I read this in one sitting and I hope there will be another full-length book in this series coming out soon.

Let me start with I have pretty much read everything from this author...and I LOVE her.

And I have always said Jocelyn Rush is a favorite character of mine...she’s a total badass! Plus she lives about my home town!!!! (Yes I know she isn’t real.)(And I know she’s retired but she’s still solving and digging.)

This story literally reached out and sucked me in from the first page. I read it in a sitting. AND let me tell you, it was absolutely awesome. The way this author weaves a mystery is magic. Pure magic!

Her talent in this genre rivals some big names, I’m telling you her talent is big!

I just begged her for more from this character. Because I so love the smart, sassy determination that Jocelyn has. Maybe because I always wanted to be a Philly cop. I strongly suggest if you love mysteries with great characters and more twists than a back road in Montgomery county you MUST read this fantabulous author. Because she is sooooo dang brilliant.

Gave me a much needed fix!!

I keep wishing Regan would continue her Jocelyn Rush series. There's only two books. This one was a third, but only a novella. Dang! It's very short and I wanted it to be longer. It was a small fix only! I'm dying for more. ☺ Please write more Jocelyn stories. I really love her. This comes after her second book. It mentions her boyfriend Caleb and her daughter Olivia. They're looking to buy a home together. It's a short mystery that's really good. I really liked it.

Lisa Regan is an amazing author. This story is a short story in the Jocelyn Rush Series which includes Cold Blooded and Hold Still which I'd read previously as my introduction to Lisa. I can't recommend her books highly enough. Not only this one and the other two Jocelyn Rush books but her stand-alone, Kill For you, the Detective Parks books - Finding Claire Fletcher and Losing Leah Holloway, and of course her tour de force - the Josie Quinn series. Lisa writes the strong female lead as absolutely no one else can. She also is a genius at police procedural fiction. This short story is a tiny taste of what she is capable of writing. A delicious appetizer. If you like mystery/thriller fiction with a strong female lead - Lisa Regan is the author for you! Do not stop with this story. Though after reading it, why would you want to?

I am not normally one to read short stories or novellas, but this was in the Jocelyn Rush series so I read it. The story itself was alright. A woman rear ends Jocelyn and Anita, her partner at Rush & Grant, on a bridge. Then when Jocelyn confronts the woman she jumps. I realize that it was a short story and everything was wrapped up neatly, however the very end seemed rushed and there was not really a build up to it. I love the series and I love the author, but this is why I don't read short stories.

The book was good even though it was short. I felt a sense of connection to the main characters. But I honestly would have preferred the book to start out after the car crash, and I don't think someone injured running after a person is super believable. The following story that ensues is fantastic and gripping, and I enjoyed following it.

The ending didn't make sense, and felt like it lacked depth. Why was Molly changing lives?

It felt like it would have been great if it was a hundred pages longer.

I really enjoyed Over The Edge by Lisa Regan. This was a short novella that started with a hot scene that grabs the readers attention and is full of action throughout the book.
I am a big fan of Regan’s work and this was another book that grabs you and hold on.
Over The Edge gets five out of five stars.

Jocelyn is an interesting woman

I enjoyed this book because I like Jocelyn so much. Anita is pretty cool too. Kevin and Jocelyn act like they are still partners. This is the first Lisa Regan book I figured out what happened before the end.
Spoiler alert
If you like the old Julia Roberts movie Sleeping with the Enemy then you'll really like this book.

This story was included in the anthology Drop Dead crime and I enjoyed it. This is apparently set in the PI Jocelyn Rush series that I have not previously read. Given that, the story was easy to follow and I didn't feel like I was missing anything. The ending is interesting - I did figure everything out fairly quickly - but it was still full of a couple of twists and unexpected turns.

FANTASTIC

Short and sweet, well not really sweet, but a really nice read. I don't usually read short stories, but I've read previous books by this author and I've thoroughly enjoyed them, so I have this book a go and it didn't disappoint. I know the characters and this was just what I needed. It covered all the bases. Brilliant.

As the saying goes short but sweet!

Another of Lisa Regans books that I so enjoyed even if it was short story it still kept my attention! Also felt the same as Rush that something was off so you just had to follow you instinct to find out if your right or wrong especially helping a child! Loved it! More please!

I found this story in my library's e-catalogue. A nice short read for an afternoon on the couch.
An altercation in traffic, a confrontation then a woman jumps to her possible death. Jocelyn sinks her teeth into this mystery to find out why. I don't know the character but felt a connection as this author rocks. I'm starting Cold-Blooded now, I can't get enough of this author.

A real quickie

A power packed short story with an interesting lesson. Things aren't always what they seem. Just because things appear to be perfect when looking from the outside in doesn't necessarily mean they always are.

"What A Surprising Well-Planned Event"

This is a short story by a very popular author. The main character is a single mom, and a sassy private detective. Joselyn Rush leaves no stone unturned. A very quick read which draws you in on the first page. It's great!.

The first emotion Joselyn Rush feels when her car is hit, is anger. But when the woman driver jumps off the bridge to her death curiosity gets the better of her. So she is determined to find out why.
An interesting well-written novella

Loved this digital short!

I love a short story when not much time to read, and this really fit the bill especially since I really enjoy the Jocelyn Rush character. Can't wait for more her escapades.

I hate short stories including this one too rushed at the end hence 3 stars. Love Lisa Regan books only discovered her during lockdown.
Robert Dugoni did the same with a short story he released and p.....d me off a bit of a cop out not to produce a full book. Feel robbed.

I gave it a 3 star rating because I wasn’t aware of it being a short story. I’m not a fan of short stories because I feel they lack the suspense of a book, especially in detective crime books.
