A young man’s shadowed destiny leads him to the past, and could change our world forever…

On Halloween eve, a frightening encounter with mysterious creatures transports twenty-year old Thomas McCadden to an unknown and ancient world—7th century Britain.

How did he get there? What does he do now?
The answers to these questions change his life forever, revealing secrets that have long been hidden, and a truth that he would rather not know. As he tries to survive this long-ago time, Thomas encounters the unknown and the otherworldly; exiled warriors, holy men, tribal kings, and something far more sinister shadowing them all.

Is he a tool for the dark forces of this land? Or the liberator sent to save them all?
His strange journey forces these and even more important questions: can he make it back home? Does he even want to return?

I really enjoyed this book, a contemporary visit to faërie that draws in the whole English legendarium while creating a new mythology. With intricate details of landscape, language, and culture, L.A. Smith makes early Middle Ages live for me.

If your a fan of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon then this is another series you will want to read for sure!!! Wilding is the first of 3 in the Travellers Path series and it keeps you intrigued from the first page with interesting characters, time travel and even the Fey make an appearance. Oh and I also love the cover art. Just beautiful! Can’t wait for the second book to be released L. A Smith!

Excellent historical fantasy

If you enjoy stories of the fey and escaping to the 7th century you will love this book. Rather dark in places and i dont recommend it for the faint of heart. Characters and setting are well crafted. There were a few typos but not horribly distracting. This book leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions. So be ready to dive into e second book.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. The author paints such a vivid picture of the time and the characters in the novel. It is clear that this is a well researched historical fiction (the best kind). I highly recommend giving this book a read, you will be hooked and have to read the other books in the series!

Wilding is a brilliantly told story that is exceptionally well-written with an evocative use of language that transports the reader into 7th century Britain. It's enchanting and compelling, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

A wild immersive ride into a fascinating alternate world. The author's lush prose is a joy, bringing the medieval setting and the magic and the myths to vivid life. Against this backdrop Thomas grapples engagingly and relatably with questions of identity, belonging and faith. A charmer!

Historical / Fantasy
Time - AD 642 ( Dark Ages )
Location - Northumbria England
Rating - 4.5 rounded up to 5
This wonderful novel checks all my boxes. My favorite genre is histoical, but this book is so much more. Time travel is a device I enjoy, that is featured in this novel. The world building for the fantasy element is seamless and imaginative. From the very first page, I was pulled into the action, and was taken along for a breathless ride.
This book was obviously well researched. I appreciated the brief historical note at the beginning of the book which helped me understand more about "names, places, times". I felt I was firmly planted in Northumbria 642, by the author's descriptive prose.
Thomas' harrowing adventures kept me turning the pages, but I also cared about these charactors. He has a lot of conflicts between loyalties, and life and death decisions to make. What he does can affect not only him but the future. I will definitely be reading the second book in this series!
