Ten years after, Cal survived by keeping to himself out in what used to be the territories.  He’d lost a brother in the fighting and a sister to a southern husband, but it seemed to matter little now.

Most things left him alone if he left them alone.  But spring was always bad.  It meant he had to go into town.  Towns were dangerous.  There were things loose in the world now that were best avoided.  But if he was going to make it through next winter he needed to sell his furs and get supplies.
But sometimes the best laid plans…

Fun read. Interesting characters in a Civil War era alternate history combining science fiction and fantasy.
