The Unbelievable Mr. Brownstone #19

Road Trip: BBQ and a Brawl

Rate this book

Barbecue is life.  Everything else is just details...AGAIN!

Things are going a little too well for Brownstone as he sticks around the house, and Shay is getting agitated.

Can a bounty hunter be happy when he has nothing to do?

James goes on a road trip expecting to just eat some barbeque. Unfortunately, trouble is waiting when he arrives.

The bounty hunter likes to keep things simple, but those who are working to beat up the Oriceran BBQ pitmaster's new place didn't account for him arriving.

Will those attacking give up?  Is stupid contagious?

Instead of a simple BBQ road trip, now he is embroiled in helping a fellow BBQ lover he followed on TV as he helps bring the BROWNSTONE BEAT DOWN.

Eight years later.....

Well 8 years in the book timeline not the actual time to publish. If The Author ever took that long to write the next in series the apocalypse must have come. Back to the book.... Mr. Brownstone takes a vacation.... from retirement? Yep and bbq is a must and trouble always seems to find James.

You might be able to read this without having read the others. All the mentions of other characters and books will have you wanting to read more in this series and universe so go check out the other books. There’s something for everyone even if you don’t like bbq.

It is just a fun book. No world-wide apocalypse he has to avert or super scary bounty he has to bring in, just a road-trip to enjoy some BBQ before settling in to become a new dad. Of course, some of the bad guys haven't got the news so he might have to deal with some golf-playing hyped-up wizards and rescue a kidnapped friend but that doesn't mean he can't have some fun doing it.

Alright book, didn't care that much for it. There is such a huge timeskip so it can catch up to Alison's series as an adult instead of a teenager. We missed out on so much development because of this.
It should've ended with the previous book as this book felt so repetitive, I fear the next book will be the same. Driving, beating someone up, driving, over and over.

Oh, I DID enjoy this book! Lol

It had nothing to do with Alison Brownstone, apart from James being her father, so I'm guessing it's a place setting, as in James and Shay are due a baby, as mentioned in Alison's last book.

This takes place roughly eight years after James and Shay sort-of retire from Bounty Hunting, and Treasure Seeking, respectively.

Although James is very happy to concentrate on his one Barbecue restaurant, with the occasional call from his employees to help with a serious Bounty, the news of Shay's pregnancy and impending birth, has him questioning his life.

But Shay, who understands her husband implicitly, sends him on a Road Trip, to discover new Barbecue. James decides it's a good idea, so sets off on his few weeks of Barbecue tasting!

It's almost comical, really, how James thinks his trip will be straightforward because, as is usual where he is concerned, there's never anything KISS about his life, and this trip proves that in spades.

I laughed, a lot, while reading this book. It's almost like a guide to James' whole life, so far, and involves attempted van jacking, and a Pitmaster kidnapping, to name but two events! Lol

This is so very James Brownstone, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading every page of it!

I have to say that I've never enjoyed Barbecue in the way that Americans do - we British tend to be rather slow to change how we eat, and our barbecues involve lots of sausages, that are usually cooked to overkill, and burgers so dry, they could be used as deadly weapons!

I must admit, my mouth has watered many a time, at the descriptions of the various barbecues that James has been involved with!

Anyhoo, I've finished this very entertaining book, so it's now back to the Alison Brownstone series, with a new Arc starting in book nine: 'A Brownstone Response'.

So, I'll just finish off writing this review, then I'll start reading this new adventure.

Once I've finished this next book, I'll catch you on the flip side, and let you know what I think about it!

Just a simple bbq road trip

Ha not for James chaos seems to find or follow him even when he has no interest in it. First stop was Vegas and Jessie Rays meeting up with trey who ordered all his favorite things then asked for help (sort of) then running into car jackers finally getting to his destination to attend the opening of Nadine’s restaurant which went off well aside from the crazy protesters Then attended a charity event the next day which reminded James of the orphanage it was a nice memory and event until Nadine disappears well rather than giving it all away I’ll say definitely read this one

Fun Trip

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun catching up with one of my favorite characters. I have a real love 💘 for Whispy the symbiote. I like finding out tidbits about him in each book. I also enjoy a really good BBQ road trip and there is a lot of good BBQ throughout the Texas and the Southeastern United States so the culture of western BBQ is very interesting. This book made me laugh and made me hungry for Q. I look forward to seeing what comes next for James and Shay.

Awesome as ever!

I’m loving Whispy’s commentary! The interactions between James and Whispy are hilarious. It’s fascinating seeing James grow as he accepts impending fatherhood, as well as how Whispy is changing.

The situations James finds himself in are even more hilarious because of his innate desire to KISS. I’m loving the road trip, and cannot wait to see where he goes next.

Keep them coming, Michael!

The Granite Ghost Rides Again!

First of you haven't read this series do yourself a favor and read them all! Jane ties to go on a BBQ road trip and add kicking ensues. Between as whole bounties in Vegas, a dumb shut trying to car jack him and a kidnapping it all ends up screwing up a KISS BBQ trip. So grab a good cigar, your favorite adult beverage and enjoy another great tale.

Don’t Mess With Someone’s BBQ

The title of this book is spot on. James takes what is supposed to be an introspective road trip to come to grips with having a baby enter into his and Shay’s life together. He does come to grips and even looks forward to his future as the father of an infant. But because he is James Brownstone, there are bounties, bullies and bad guys he is forced to take care of along the way. Another great ride of a book!

Another hit out of the park!

Mr. Anderle, you and the Brownstones, Berens, Leira, have taken my interest to a new level. I eagerly download every book, and dive into it like James with a plate of ribs with God sauce. The pace is always set to keep the reader invested, the characters grab your emotions, and the action is always exciting and even humorous at times. Keep reading, writing and producing even more authors!

He gets into just as much trouble wow "retired".

It seems that James gets into just as much trouble while retired as he did when he was actively bounty hunting. His road trip was fraught with all kinds of issues. I think Shay was right when she said he had mischievous Entity following him. I enjoyed this book and I loved the battles. Looking forward to the next book. I hope this series continues. Even if it is BBQ centric. How one track mind cracks me up.

Brownstone Never Gets Old

Mr Brownstone, Mrs Brownstone, Alison Brownstone…. and a baby Brownstone is on the way. Exciting times for the family. To get his head around it, James sets off on a barbecue road trip with a little beat down amongst it.
A brilliant story, looking forward to the next book where hopefully we find out if it’s a baby boy or girl Brownstone.
Well done Mr Anderle, well done!

A surprise treat

Just when I thought we were no longer going to be able to see Brownstone's life any more...this wonderful book came out. As James is dealing with Shay's big news, and the aftermath of Toronto, he becomes involved in rescuing a friend.
The conversations between him and Whispy Doom are hilarious.

On The Road Again

Brownstone goes on a road trip to settle his mind about upcoming responsibilities and eat barbeque. Kicking @$$ along the way eats into his barbeque time. I like the action, humor, and nostalgia of the road trip concept. This was a fun read and revisited many favorite characters. It would be nice to see what happens with Little Brownstone.

Another great book in the series, I guess three a year won’t hurt.

I still like the adventures of James brown stone. Next to BA this is still my second favorite series. The book was fast-paced fun and enjoyable. If you have not read any of the brownstone series start at the beginning you’ll enjoy this book.

It all comes back to bbq

BBQ was there before bounty hunting - BBQ was there during bounty hunting - BBQ is there after bounty hunting - the descriptions of BBQ in these enthralling and entertaining books almost tempt to to eat meat again. Almost, but not quite.
Virtual BBQ will just have to be enough.

Good book , but...

I can only give it 4 stars. It just wasn't as Brownstone somehow. I expected more from this book. It's still a good read , but something was off . Just my opinion , read it yourself and decide.

Always a fun adventure

Like all the rest this was a fun read. James is a hoot and he really gets to strut his stuff in this one. Hopped up wizards, power armored nerve and backstabbing security. Lots of bbq too. Look forward to many more.

Enjoyed the read

More Brownstone musings, and more BBQ. What more can you ask for from a Brownstone story. And we finally get to meet Nadina. Now I’m looking forward to a Baby Brownstone in pre-school series.

One star down!

Minus one star for Author Notes Template. Kinda kidding but they seem kinda robofilled. But the story is great so back to 5 stars! I love the Brownstone Series and can’t wait to see what happens next!

Never betray BBQ

I enjoyed the story but the reason behind the kidnapping and so much destruction and expense was a bit lame. Lots of BBQ and lots of brownstone butt kicking and a story is told.

James takes it on the road. Just a nice quiet trip from LA to Denver sampling various bbq joints along the way.
I can't count the number of times I was cracking up laughing while reading this book. Just one bit of advice, never get between James and his bbq.
