எனது அரசு அனுபவம் ‘வேரில்பழுத்த பலா’ என்ற குறுநாவலாகவும், நான், சென்னை நகரில் கண்ட கட்டிடத் தொழிலாளர்களின் துன்பங்கள், துயரங்கள், ‘ஒரு நாள் போதுமா என்ற குறுநாவலாகவும், இந்தப் படைப்பில் உள்ளடக்கி உள்ளன. எனக்குத் தெரிந்த மட்டில், “சாகித்திய அகாதெமி”ப் பரிசு பெற்ற நாவல்களில், இது ஒன்றுதான், எந்த இடத்திலும் யதார்த்தக் குறைவு இல்லாமல் வந்துள்ள படைப்பு என்று எண்ணுகிறேன். இதனாலேயே ‘திருஷ்டி’ பரிகாரம் போல, பாராட்டுகளுக்கு மத்தியில், சில ‘இலக்கிய’ வெத்து வேட்டுச் சத்தங்களும் ஒலித்தன. என்றாலும் ஒரு படைப்பில் ஒருத்தியைக் கொண்டு வந்து, அவள் கற்பு எப்போது வேண்டுமானாலும் பறிக்கப்படலாம் என்று ஒரு சஸ்பென்சை ஏற்படுத்தி, அந்த சஸ்பென்சின் இடையே, ஒரு பிரச்ச

About the author

Samuthiram was born in Tippanampatti village in Tirunelveli District. He worked in All India Radio and Doordarshan. He was a prolific writer who wrote fourteen novels, four novellas, two essay anthologies, one play and more than 300 short stories (published as twenty-two collections). Many of his works have been translated into other Indian languages, such as Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam. His political orientation was socialist, and he was involved in many literary feuds with fellow writers, such as Asokamitran and Vannanilavan. His works reflect his socialist beliefs, and most of them are about the oppression of the downtrodden. In 1990, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil for his novel Veril Pazhutha Pala. Other awards received include the Tamil Annai Award from Tamil University, Thanjavur; the Ilakkiyachinthanai Short Story Prize; and the Kalaignar Award from Murasoli Trust (posthumous). He died in 2003 in a road accident in Chennai.

வேரில் பழுத்த பலா மற்றும் ஒரு நாள் போதுமா? என்ற இரு கதைகளைக் கொண்ட புத்தகம். மிகவும் நேர்த்தியாக எழுதப்பட்ட எளிமையான கதைகள். வேரில் பழுத்த பலா அலுவகச் சூழலில் உயர் அதிகாரியாக இருக்கும் சரவணனின் கதை. ஒரு நாள் போதுமா, கட்டுமான துறையில் இருக்கும் பாட்டாளி மக்களின் துயரங்களை எடுத்து சொல்லும் கதையாக கனக்கிறது.
