The ultimate sacrifice…

Drenched in wealth and power, Caspian holds my city by the throat. No man or woman denies him, not even me.

But he owes me a debt I intended to collect.

Our trade was fair—my submission to his pack for the lives of my wards.

Pleasure, willing female attention, affection, he’s starved for such things. Starved for me.

And though he may have tricked me into his bed, he will never have what I know he longs for most. My heart.

Not so long as he holds the lives of my family hostage.

Ravaged Captive: Wren’s Song Book 4 is a dark, sinister Omegaverse Reverse Harem tale for those with twisted tastes and a love for unabashed bad boys. Complete power exchange dominates these pages, as do THREE smoking-hot Alpha antiheroes.

When I started this series I thought there would be three books and two have been published so I thought I would take a chance the series might get completed. I don't think this author has ever actually finished a book series that has a beginning middle and a conclusion. I think I got to page 5 and thought, "why am I bothering, it's not like there will be an ending". This just ruined the story for me. The author will not say how many book in the series or give a time line of when the story will be completed. Some of her books were published in 2016 and are still not completed, it is 2022. I went to her facebook to see if she was going to finish the story and guess what, she is starting a new series of books. This seems to be typical of the writer which is really too bad because she is very gifted. Sometimes I think she has just written herself into a corner and does not know how the story should conclude so she just moves onto another series of books. Anyways, people usually want a story with a beginning middle and an end, crazy I know. If the book is completed I will change my review.

I do not consider these books romance; they're erotic horror.

Once you understand that, the going gets easier. I struggled with it at first because I do consider Cain's previous books to be awesome dark romance, but not this one; this one is pure psychological study of a number of extremely messed-up people. It's certainly interesting; I feel a sort of fascination to see just how bad it's going to get. But I don't see them ever getting a HEA and I don't think I actually want them to.

➽ On the psychological front, there's one character - Kieran - where Cain is really pushing the whole 'his mummy was mean to him, so now he's a psychopath' stuff. I am, to say the least, extremely sceptical, and it didn't sit well with me that Wren began to forgive him purely out of sympathy.

➽ I also haven't forgotten the tons of OW, which is biggest reason I'm opposed to the 'romance.' Yes, I'm weird like that; I can forgive a hero being essentially insane (see The Silver Devil) but one hint of OW and I am OUT. Which is a shame, because I'd be so much more invested in this series if Rosie and the 24891204319412 million other women didn't exist.

There's no love, softness, tenderness, affection - nothing which characterised Shepherd's behaviour to Claire, as an example. But Cain is a good writer (even if she uses the passive voice rather more than is comfortable) so I'm here for the ride.

This instalment was so fab, just adored the addition of that conniving and sneaky doll.
Kieran has made his bed and he is so not a happy camper for it even going as far as to blame the mouse for his current predicament with her unwanted replacement.
In fact, the power play between the boys in Ravaged Captive was fascinating to observe and as far as I can see Toby is the one that's thinking with his right head where Kieran here seems to be more a creature of instinct unnecessarily rocking the boat and antagonising Caspian.
Caspian also now seems to be completely enamoured of his mouse wanting her to like him best of all.
Which in turn has a domino effect on the pack hierarchy.
So despite the extremities of this story, I am now just so addicted to these power plays of dominance and submission and as soon as I know a new episode is heading my way I drop everything to immerse myself in this cruel dystopian omegaverse serial its just that addictive.
Really want to know now just what that shady doll is up to she sure is one to watch.
This series does need to be read in order and also be aware that this is dark reverse-harem omegaverse: not a romance.
So yep really enjoyed this one.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Ravaged Captive (Wren’s Song, #4).

Update: I've given up on this series. I think I'm going to wait until this series is fully complete before I read the next book. I have frustrations with this series, one of them being I have no idea how many books are in this series. Also, they're each priced at $2.99 and relatively short. That's about $12 to read 4 books in this series with no end in sight. So far each book feels less than 1 novel, but has cost wayyy more than a novel. Reading this series is like reading an expensive Sunday Morning Cartoon strip.

Edit: Lol I just noticed the cost of books 2-4 have gone up from $2.99 to $3.99. Ok at this point AC's books are overhyped and overpriced. The quality is reducing. The books are becoming shorter in length and the prices are going up.

2nd edit: For those wondering, the original 4 novellas have been repackaged into two "novels" : Branded and Silenced now on Amazon. At this date (5/15/2020) there's been no new material released. Just the 4 novellas have been combined into 2 "novels."

- Silenced on Amazon is apparently a censored version since Amazon banned the original version. The original version can be purchased at other retailers. Branded seemed to also be banned from Amazon, but AC hasn't made a public announcement. It's now reappeared on Amazon and I'm wondering if it's also a censored version.

...

Original review:

3.75. So far I enjoyed this book the most out of the entire series...although enjoy may not be the right word. I was captivated. It was brutal. Like other reviewers have mentioned this series is not a romance, and there are no heroes. It's filthy dirty.

In this book Kieran took the spotlight. There has been a lot of talk about how messed up and sadistic Toby is...but not much action to back up the words. I did enjoy the brief glimpse we got into Rosie's life in the pen. I like Rosie, in a way she's had just as tough a go of it as Wren. Bliss Dust was interesting.

I almost rated this four stars, but I'm keeping it at three because I was hoping for more resolution in book 4. How many books in this series is Addison Cain going to write? At this rate it could go on forever and I can only take so much depravity. I read the entire series in just the past few days; I can't imagine waiting a year between each of these bite-sized books.

This may be a stupid question, but why is Wren called Jax and not Wren? Is her name even really Wren? Did I miss something? Is there going to be a 'my real name is Wren' twist later? Is it just a nickname the author gave Jax so she can write quips about making a mute girl sing?

Even though I have complaints, there's no doubt in my mind I'll devour any other books that are published in this series - even if I have to wait a year -.-

This series is to the point of disappointment

While things happened in this book like Kieran felt unsteady and angry, Caspian’s feelings grew and Toby stood strong and plotting....it still didn’t really move the story towards a wrap up.
In fact, in kind of went backwards by making the ‘doll’ Kieran bought a feature in this addition. And she’s horrible.
We get very little from Wren’s POV, it’s a short book....can it even be called a book this little?
The fact that AC allowed one of the alphas to actually full out cheat the way he did, even though he thought Wren was gone, is frankly disrespectful to readers who wanted to see these 4 originals grow and work things out. The whole dynamic of the four of them is, at this point, ruined.
Now instead of emotional growth, we’re also dealing with someone fighting a possible bond and full out cheating (if that world can even call something that...) even though Kieran does NOT want the doll.
Basically, now it’s a treading water clusterf*ck.
I don’t even know what to say about this addition anymore. I’m ready for these four to find a routine that works for them, the guys need to grow and this series needs to wrap up. I’m tired of it being drug out.
I don’t want to start any other new series by this author until she finishes them up. Her current pattern is leaning towards GRRM behavior. She’s got multiple series out that are not complete. It’s all over the place.

The "books" keep getting shorter

So far each or the four installments of this "trilogy" are shorter than the one before it. It took less than half an hour to read this novella. I won't read another one until they're all finished, because waiting a year for less than 100 pages isn't worth the anticipation and disappointment. The writing is so wonderful and the story is fantastic, but the publishing is a big disappointment.

I've been following Addison since "Born to be Bound" I like her writing but she has a habit of not completing her series in a timely manner. She starts series constantly but again none are complete. Some were started in 2016. She'll put out the 1st or 2nd book in a reasonable time then it drops off for months while she publishes the beginning of another series. It's frustrating. The books are staying the same price while their length is becoming shorter. I Highly suggest just waiting until she can write an ending and Then buy them. I've lost interest.

Again, I hated this book. I really don't know why I tortured myself by forcing this stupid book into my brain. Honestly... I really have no idea.

At this point, I'm so annoyed that I'm 4 books invested in this series. Everything from the first page of the first book to about the 75% mark of the 4th book was just dumb. It didn't really peak my interest until that last bit of the 4th book. And I really didn't plan on continuing with this series. The other books aren't even out yet and I was just going to call it quits. Then OF COURSE the author had to go and have something happen that makes me want to know what happens next.

Ugh. Fml.

If there wasn't so much damn unnecessary smut (and believe me, I absolutely LOVE smut but this shit just went beyond what was needed) the first three books could've been condensed into maybe 1 and a half books. And I'm not even kidding. That's how much of a lack of story there was in the first three books.

I seriously could go on and on about how terribly I hate this series. But I am wasting no more time. I'll just say that if you are reading reviews for this fourth book to find out if you want to read the series (which I doubt, but whatevs) I suggest not wasting your time.

ETA - I have removed my rating as this is yet another unfinished series by this author. I have enjoyed her work, but I can no longer support someone who repeatedly starts a series and leaves it unfinished.

Oh the lies we tell ourselves in order to stay sane

If you're thinking of reading this book then you should by now have read the previous 3 books in the series, so you will know what to expect. Or will you? Because if you've ever read an Addison Cain book then you will know that she takes great delight in trampling your emotions into the dust. She savours ripping your heart to shreds and then puts the cherry on the top with a twist that you couldn't have predicted with the help of Nostradamus and every computer in the world working on it.

This ends not so much with a cliffhanger as a tiny nugget of informational gold that could spin out in one of a hundred thousand myriad ways. Ms Cain also works her magic of changing your mind about the bad guys! My heart actually broke for Rosie, and even though Doll is causing problems, she is as much a victim as the rest are. And at heart those three men are like wounded animals, snapping and snarling to stay on top but carrying hurt in their soul. I might even be developing a soft spot for Caspian - GASP!

Oh Caspian you fool - when will you open your eyes and actually see the truth that is laid naked before you? Why is it that Toby, the maddest of them all, is the one who sees most clearly? And Kieran, what a sorry mess you have tangled yourself up in, how will you ever pick your way out of it? The more they sink down, the stronger Wren/Jax grows and this book felt like a turning point in both her life and her mindset.

Ravaged Captive wasn't as much of an emotional maelstrom which, strange as it might sound, I loved. A break from all the turbulent feelings allowed both the plot and characters to develop even further, it allowed us to see more clearly the mud caked picture before us. I'm also sure there are equal number of false leads and red herrings as there are breadcrumbs of truth and that is what makes this book, this series of books, such magnificent and captivating reading.

An 18+ read, Ravaged Captive is set in a dystopian omegaverse. It is part of an ongoing series and can not be read as a stand alone story.

2 I’m done with this series stars.

I read the first 3 books back to back or fairly close. But it’s been several months since the last book and I Totally forgot what I read. I read 300 books a year. It’s probably been 100 books since i read the last book and as much I want to ride this series out I can’t.

The books are short and it’s hard to stick with short books when the release dates are so far apart.

The book ended at the 87% mark. Can’t you write to the 99% mark?

What happened to the smut? I felt like all of that stuff was glossed over like it wasn’t really important.

I think the main thing with me is that I totally forgot everything. I kind of remember the 3 guys but I forgot about the deal. I kept on wondering who Jax was and got confused with doll and mouse (two different people I think).

Anyhow. Some people love this series and power to you. I wish I did! But I can’t handle short books written once every 6 months to a year. Maybe when all of the books are released.

I did not like the addition of that ‘doll’. I honestly kept expecting someone to snap her neck and hope that happens in the next book (#sorrynotsorry). I’ve been waiting for this book and not only did it end too soon, it ended on a cliffhanger! I also didn’t get enough of Wren’s POV, though the pack’s POVs were a nice change. Still, Ravaged Captive didn’t really advance the story much and left me more frustrated than anything. I need more!

This is my least favourite of the series because there isn't much progress in the storyline and the male characters just become more and more insane with every book, with maybe the exception of Caspian. Toby and Kieran are now like psychopaths and it's only a matter of time, I think, before things got really bloody between the three Alphas.

This was so frustrating.
This series is going nowhere.

4 Books in and we still do not have a solid couple. I hate how many chances this Kieran is getting. I don't fucking care your mommy didn't love you. Wren's parents didn't love her either. She's not an asshole, is she? I dont feel an ounce of sympathy for what's happening to him. He made his bed, he'll lay in it.
I've been searching these books for the connection that was between Shepherd and Claire but the Alphas have just now started caring about Wren and I'm too tired now. I get that Wren's position is a lot more difficult than Claire's but she's not strong at all.
And I hated the treatment of the OW in this book. Even the Doll.

Just because of the whole DMCA notice against author Zoey Ellis, it's immediately a no.

You can't own ideas and she didn't even come up with any of the tropes/elements inside Omegaverse or A/B/O or the AU itself. Maybe give compensations to the fans who generated the material in the first place, then?

As the Tines put it "how easily intellectual property law can be weaponized by authors seeking to take down their rivals."

The more these books go, the less I understand. Where is the plot going? Are the guys eventually going to stop being jerks? What about Alec and Mikael? I need answers! The smut is a lot and great, but the plot leaves me wanting. I wish they were longer, instead of basically novellas so more things happened and we got more information about the world and backstory on the characters. When is the next book coming out?

I am hooked, but never again

Ok, so I came across the first Wren's Song and was intrigued. It is not my usual read with the Omegaverse and dystopian setting.

The overall writing, feelings and world challenges are for the most part well laid out, but there are gaps, especially in this one that are not dealt with - specifically how Caspian reacts to finding Jax in Toby's house - that scene felt unfinished and basically left behind.

Overall the dystopian Omegaverse world is well done and consistent, but this "series" is dragging on and on. It really almost feels like getting a few chapters of a book at a time - and that is NOT for me as this set has made clear. While I am hooked on this "series" I will not be starting any other Addison Cain books as I felt the way the parts are released is unecessarily dragged out and that leaves the entertainment value tainted.

I devoured this in about two seconds. As always Addison Cain manages to present these twisted, awful, hate-able characters and then make them human. Every little detail revealed, weakness explored, makes me fall a little bit more for every character. I still hate them, but they feel so real you can't help but want to keep reading.

If you love the series, you'll love this next installment. If you've never read Addison Cain but you love Dark and twisted... What are you waiting for??

Another cliffhanger in a dark series

First, I adore Wren, I've eaten up every word in the series and am begging for a happy future for her and her boys. I've been anxious to see at least one of the alphas make some progress toward being worthy of her. Hopeful to see growth in these relationships. I tore through book 4, devoured every word. It was interesting to see so much perspective from the men. We were seeing growth in them. Or at least change, if not positive growth. Kieran faced the biggest conflict, he's my favorite of the 3 so far. We didn't see much from Wren. And we're left with another big cliffhanger.

Second. Sigh. I'm growing weary of the tiny little snippets Cain gives us with long breaks in between. This was such a short book. I read it through ku, but I would've been annoyed if I'd paid for it. It was surprising to have a new character introduced at this point, plus Rosie got to much screen time. If I could advise her, I would suggest working on one series at a time. Having multiple series going at once gets frustrating for the readers.

YES! I have found Ravaged Captive! I have the next part of this delicious dark omegaverse series! Right here,in my library! And naturally,i dove right in. Needing to know what was happening. And i didn’t come up for air until the very last page. Until the very last word. IT IS THAT GOOD

Wren is back in Alpha’s hands, under Alpha’s control. Just because she came back for her boys. Trapped. Again. Forced to follow rules. Only things are different. Kieran, second alpha, made another omega look exactly like Wren,to offer to Caspian. But Caspian didn’t want a pale replica. And when his mouse is returned,he is the first to take her, thoroughly. Toby, third alpha, still holds onto his claim, but knows Caspian has first rights.
Kieran is ordered to breed the replica, who is going cause trouble later,i’m sure of it.....
Caspian’s bond with Wren is changing, and i would love to find out where they’re going. And what Toby’s,or even Kieran, part of that dynamic will be....

Ravaged Captive was great,i loved it! And it made me hungry for more.....

The 4th installment of Wren's Song was nothing like I expected. In this book it seems as if Kieren has actually fallen in love with Wren and won't be happy until he breeds her. Of course, he has become mean, taking on a "doll" made to look like Wren and apparently mated her though she does not satisfy his need for the real woman. Even Caspien seems to have chilled a tad in this book. I find myself liking Rosie a little more and wishing I could jump in the book and best the crap of the "doll" that dares to try to keep Kieren away from Wren. Toby is the only one that comes across as sweet. It was good to see the men had actually been sad thinking she was dead. Their relationships are rocky and difficult but slowly growing. It will be interesting to see if Wren will be mated to all three in the end or if one will dominate over the other. Addison knocked this out of the ballpark as only she can. I can't wait to read the next installment when it releases.

This is the fourth book in the Omegaverse series and I do recommend reading them in order. Wren’s story continues and she is stronger than ever. Wren, Caspian, Kieran and Toby’s story continues each of the men are very different and Caspian enjoys controlling them all. Will he ever when Wren’s heart? Can Wren truly keep her boys safe? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, emotion and off the charts steam. I was hooked from beginning to end and I can’t wait for more!

As much as I appreciate her work and see the potential in her. There’s not a single series she has done that I have felt satisfied by because it’s being poorly executed. It’s teetering on the line of fanfiction. This new model writers are using to drag a story out for as much coin as possible. We want full novels, fully fleshed out character arcs, more depth and less never ending cliffhangers.

Amazing book wish it was longer. Wish I knew how many more books until the series is complete . Well done author love your writing I am salvaging for the next.

Another Slick Hit

Another fabulously dirty book in Wren's story. I don't know who to hate more out of the three Alphas and I'm not going to presume to say I know where this story is headed or who will be alive when we get there.
Anything is possible right now.
Need the next book asap!

Never long enough

It was so good I breezed right through but now I have to wait again.

I didn't think Caspian and Kieran had soft sides. I can't believe Kieran mates with the doll what an idiot. I still wonder who will end up with her though will it be all of them or none.

Very Good

I love Addison Cain, but these shorter books are kind of annoying. It just starts to get good and complex, and it abruptly ends.

Having said that, this is still an amazing story. Very Addison Cain, and very worth your time.
